User:Elias Thorne
Birth Name:Elias Thorne
Nicknames: Thorne, Eli
Gender: Male
Race & Clan: Midlander Hyur
Age: 27
Height 6 fulms, 1 ilm
Weight: Who knows, he certainly doesn't
Birthplace: Ishgard, purportedly
Residence: The Mist, or wandering near The Last Vigil
Patron Deity: Halone, Nymeia
Relationship Status: Single
Occupation: Impoverished Noble, Dabbler of Fortune, Tarot Reader and joint owner of Rose and Thorne
Alignment: Neutral Good
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Elias is a tall, lean man oft broaching on the lesser side of muscular. Snow-kissed skin of a healthy complexion speaks of a man ever at work outside, while a smattering of freckles indicates no little time spent in the sun. Strange, for a hyur hailing from Ishgard. Elias' hair is a dull ash in color, though he's deemed fit to highlight it with lilac, e'er swept over the right side of his face. From time to time, Elias' dull, dead right eye peers through, accompanied by a smattering of minor burns. His remaining eye is maroon, ever watchful, prone to wandering from face to face and, while quite vibrant, is next to never not covered by a shaded monocle.
With a pointed chin and sharp, angular cheekbones, Elias cuts an intimidating figure given the right lighting. The rest of the time, he simply looks like another noble son of Ishgard, going about his day to day. Elias Thorne makes for a strange figure, oft seen dashing here and there about the tiered city of Ishgard in a mix of noble frippery and haphazardly patched clothing. Ashen hair is marked with lilac highlights, and a curious tattoo lines the right side of his otherwise handsome face. Rumor and hearsay follow the man like a shroud - half of such infernal mutterings originate from the man himself (not that he's much like to admit it).
Expression rarely deviating between that of a vacant stare or equally emotionless smile, Elias none-the-less carries himself with the grace and poise expected of noble-born Ishgardians.
SCARS & MARKINGS: A child of the once war-torn nation of Ishgard, Elias boasts a well healed scar that runs from his right temple, through his eye and down over the bridge of his nose. Well hidden for the most part, the jagged mark is a road-map that leads to one conclusion: claws. Small pocks in his skin over the same side indicate burns, though they've healed well and lend to an air of some little danger. Elias' tattoo rests half beneath his shaggy hair, down to his right hand cheek. A symbol of aetherial origin, it can be seen to glow with a fire-like inner light from time to time. Speaking of no little enchantment, those knowledgeable in the esoteric might recognize it as a glamour - and a seal.
VOICE: A rich voice that tends to lean into a drone, if left to prattle. Still, he could do well if given the right song to sing and an audience. He has an accent, but it's hidden under layers of pretense. Most of the time, anyway.
ATTIRE: Fond of noble frippery, Elias dresses well - though his clothes are much too out of date to even be considered fashionable by any standards save those of the antiquated. The odd patchwork stitch or missing buttons makes it obvious that his clothes have seen much use, and are rarely replaced.
Something of a trickster at heart, Elias speaks with a certain irreverence that speaks ill of his highborn status. His mind is prone to wander from one abstract thought to the next, often leading to sudden questions or observations usually best left unnoticed, but for all that he is kind of heart - if obtuse in how he goes about showing it.
Elias can be a hard man to get along with owing to his sharp wit and willingness to say just about anything no matter the company - a tongue like ice and a mind made of razor wire. His speech is rich and littered with double meanings, laying careful traps where he can for, apparently, his own amusement. Despite his contrary ways, Elias is a dedicated soul willing to do whatever it takes to further both his and the goals of his friends. Discerning those goals is another story. Masked with thin smiles and the very rare slip into genuine emotion, Elias rarely shows the world his true face. In his rare moments of doubt, there's an underlying sorrow behind that single bright eye.
- Fortune and fate.
- Witty conversation.
- Alcohol, the stronger the better.
- Theology.
- Gambling.
- Tea.
- Fortune and fate.
- Willful ignorance.
- Romance and overt affection.
- A habit of keeping the right side of his face covered by hair, be it in heat or rain, he tends only to sweep it clear if focused.
- Elias will, from time to time, draw a card from a black-stocked deck. For better or worse, he'll always do so with a smile.
- Fond of mischief, Elias will go out of his way to cause minor trouble. Keep one eye on your salt shakers, lest they come loosened.
- When in company or in private, Elias' gaze wanders from face to face and object to object. Everything is taken in, even if he looks so bored in the process.
- Elias runs a small courier business known as Rose and Thorne, operating out of Ishgard.
- Enjoys romantic fairy tales, but has little patience for the actual act of courting. Go figure.
- A reader of Tarot, Elias avoids the topic of using magic to augment his readings. Why? Who can say, he must have seen something in the cards.

Not an unfit man by any standards and well trained in the art of swordplay, Elias tends to avoid conflict unless absolutely necessary regardless. His movements are fluid and well practiced, but lack the tact of a trained solider. Favoring speed and skill over brute strength and might, he's occasionally seen with a ceremonial blade, Ala Mhigan in design.
While rarely seen practicing any form of magic, Elias has no little practical knowledge in the hows of Aetherial weaving, able to utilize a careful balance of Black and White magic to devastating effect. Though weaker than the Red Mages of old, Elias Thorne's particular brand seems to have a focus on creation as opposed to the twisting of battlefields.
A ceremonial blade made without any intent that it'd ever see combat. Despite that fact, it's kept sharp and ready should the need arise. A glimmering foci with vaguely magitek designs accompanies the piece.
A fine set of well used Tarot cards, deviating from the common Sharlayan design they invoke images and tropes utilized in plays or stories. The images depicting said figures are a touch on the grim side.

Elias Thorne's younger brother, a teen of dark temperament and vile moods. As the sole recipient of the Thorne 'fortune' and alleged estate, Elias is keen to avoid talking about his brother for reasons too numerous to list. Jealousy, perhaps? It's ever hard to tell when it comes to matters of the family. |
Killian De'bayle - ✔ $

Elias met Killian de Bayle through his wife, the fierce Dame Hestia de Bayle. While initially put off by the man's strange behavior and twice empty gaze, he quickly took a liking to the blind alchemist after they struck up a business partnership. Elias would transport supplies and tonics to the less fortunate of Ishgard, and Killian would supply them. Now a fast and true ward of House de Bayle, Killian and Elias have grown friendly; though Lord Thorne makes often the mistake of slipping into metaphors that are then sent sailing over Killian's head. Still, enjoying both Killian's gentle demeanor and kind heart; Elias can think of no better man to have married into the often precarious world of Ishgard nobility. |
Hestia De'bayle - ★
|

A Knight Dragoon and a Dame - two facts that Elias learned only after spending several long minutes babbling to the woman as she stood guard atop The Last Vigil. Drawn by mutual respect for a worthy ambition, Elias took to attempting to befriend the stoic highborn. An attempt that may have born fruit, as Hestia introduced the entrepreneurial Thorne to both Killian, her husband, and Carina de'Bayle, her mother and head of house. Owing her a debt of gratitude, Elias is set on steering Hestia into social conversations, knowing too well the pitfalls of a poor circle of friends - that, and on embarrassing her husband by suggesting he's an Incubus of great power ( and girth ). |
Jehni Kaiyn - $

Meeting Jehni, and further getting to know her, has been a turbulent adventure for Elias - having first become acquainted while attending her weekly shop-meet and then hired on to read fortunes; Elias sensed a wakening presence within the runty Keeper, finding himself compelled to learn more. Yet as time has shown, attempting to befriend a creature of honesty while playing tricks with Fate is a dangerous game, and the two often butt heads over split values and Elias' less than honest tongue. |
'Rose' Perii - ♥
|
---|
A mysterious ( by Elias' standards ) woman of dubious descent and more nebulous a past than even he can boast. A refugee and orphan of distant war, Elias met Rose deep within The Brume, while drunk to the point of forgetting both his own name and place of residence. The two talked a long while, only to - unbeknownst to the hungover Elias - strike up a bargain and partnership. Thus was Rose and Thorne born, a courier running service with strange undertones. Elias remains unsure of his place within Rose's life, but she is of the few he'd willingly go out of his way to aid with no thought for his own safety; a fact that has and will time and time again, get the down on his luck noble into trouble. |

- ■ "The Thornes? Traitors, the lot of 'em. Best be rid of the two that remain 'fore they get up to worse." - Forgotten Knight Patron.
- ■ "... But it's the older of the two, always running about, parcels and bags in hand. What's he up to, you reckon? Can't be much good, folk say he deals with that Perii gal. Aye, with the headband. Say they're helping the destitute, hah! 'E lives in squalor himself, can't be much help if he ain't helping himself." - Brume Resident.
- ■ "Dealing with a Thorne is much like dealing with a particularly arrogant chocobo. You might rant and rave and be greeted with naught but a stare that suggests you've long since stepped in dung and let it fester, leaving you the offending party. I tire of them, and Lord Elias Thorne especially. How he's their relation at all comes as quite the shock." - An Inquisitor of The Supreme Sacred Tribunal of Halonic Inquisitory Doctrine .
- ■ "Oh, aye, Elias visits often. Though he usually just strikes up some discourse or another with the Astrologians. I pay him no mind, bit of debate never hurt anyone, though... What was he saying about forcing fate's hand? No good'll come of that." - Athenaeum Astrologicum Curator.
- ■ "Well most folk say the parents joined up with the Here- Sorry, the 'Dravanian Sympathizers', but it's the strangest thing. Searched high and low for any such estate or family and found nothing. One might think our records would be more comprehensive, but the reforms threw everyone into such disarray. Just fragmented mentions of two brothers. Fury knows if they're even Ishgardian!" - Former Inquisitor Zavellian, drunk and happy to be alive.
- ■ "Ah, he was quite the attentive student. Always taking notes, listening and asking the most curious of questions. I wonder what he's doing these days? He had a fine future ahead of him."” - Arcanist Bovurr.
- ■ "The creation of new life through Aether? We know of the Primals, the eikons. Egi are the manifestation of a particular desire for a given task. But true life? Why young Thorne would ask about such I'll never know, but we can't have such dangerous experimentation. Not here." - Summoner of the Limsa Lominsa Arcanist Guild.
- ■ "Friends with that Garlean brat, isn't he? Says they've a company together, but I've seen the brands on the boxes they deliver. The Ivory Standard. What'd you think the Tribunal'd say if they learned that?" - A Concerned Citizen of Ishgard.

✓ If it's justified within the context of a scene, I have very few limits and think of myself as a roleplayer willing to accommodate a little of everything. I won't shy away from the darker elements of RP if they fall within a well thought out plot. This can include violence, romance, etc.
● When it comes to injuring or assaulting my character, please ask first! For the most part, I like to think I'm willing to go along with anything but should my character come under threat of serious bodily harm, I'd like to know first to better tailor the experience. Hell, I might just not feel like it that day. Should an action in some way physically or mentally impair my character, I'd prefer a discussion about it first.
× Random ERP is flat out, I'm awkward enough as is without having to worry about what is and might not be happening to my character in bed. On top of that ( tee hee ) I'm adverse to plotlines that break the plot or lore in a very significant way. If I can't overlook it, it'll likely draw me out of the story and force me to focus on the tear. Furthermore, characters that claim to be both A) The Warrior of Light or B) In a close personal relationship with a character - see, married to Alphinaud, will most like be considered nutters. Or treated with gentle mockery. It's mood dependent. |
