Relationships

Family

Wandering Flames (Mercenary Crew, Deceased, Except for two, one MIA)
Better times
Crow's crew maybe gone, but they are not forgotten.

Friends

Twin Adders (Freelance Hunter) (Grand Company)
Crow was forced to work as a Hunter as part of the Wandering Flames attempt to gain better public image. Putting past differences aside he helped on leves in the area, as well as working with local Hunter Scholars.
Knights Of Eorzea (Free Company, Active)
Crow joined the Knights to try and find a new group he could do right by, since he had troubles completing bigger missions by himself. He thinks the Leader Ryslo, is a bit odd but can tell he means well.
Luminous (Adventurer's Hub, Active)
Joining the crew that handles some of the more day to day things of the Knights seemed like something to do to keep busy for Crow. He has come to enjoy being around the staff and genuinely wants to help out.
Airis Sakuragi (Friend, Alive) (Au Ra, Raen)
Head of Luminous and someone Crow thinks is maybe a little too kind for her own good. He can tell she means well though and decided to help her by joining her staff. Crow would probably consider Airis as one of the first people in the Knights that he trusts.
Mitsu Genuri (Friend, Alive) (Au Ra, Raen)
A fellow member of Luminous. Like Airis, Crow finds Mitsu a little too kind and has decided to help her as well. Knowing bit and pieces about her has put the image of upperclass noble into his mind but since she hasn't tried to order him around he doesn't really mind it. After all, you can't choose your family. Prone to accident, Crow feels bad for her.
Ryslo Suramlo (Leader, Alive) (Lalafel, Clan)
The Knight's leader and someone Crow both agrees with but finds maybe a bit to naive. Regardless he thinks he can trust the man but worries about his well being.

History/Timeline

Childhood

Raised as a hunter for his tribe.

Teenage

::: Crow never thought much of the outside world. He was content to hunt for his tribe without caring much about the laws. As he reached his mid-teens he became aware of how the clan life seemed rather daunting. Crow had fallen for one of his fellow clanmembers. Often hunting together the feelings that developed were mutual. Like a stormcloud over the horizon Crow realized that his options for being with her were limited. Following the tribes laws to prove himself even though he had grown up doing so seemed like some sick joke, and so he decided to not take part in the clan's laws. Vying to leave the clan with his lover he agonized over his own choices but wanted more than anything to be free of rules and be free to be with her. When he had finally mustered up the courage to ask her to elope with him, her answer hit all his worst nagging fears. She could not leave the tribe, or rather she would not. The pain of being rejected, the hatred of the rules, and the cruelty of seeing her each day gave rise to wounds that would not heal. Crow decided on his next hunt to leave his tribe, cast off his name and find someplace where he could heal and find his own path.

Unfortunately surviving outside of your only known community is a lot harder than it would seem. Crow had ventured into the Black Shroud and was surviving off hunting. Over the next month he was visited by a Conjurer who asked him to stop encroaching upon "Elementals" and their like. Not really understanding what she meant he had told her to "Bugger off." It wasn't long after that Woodwailers were sent to Crow's hunting grounds with the mission of stopping him. Seeing this as an act of aggression Crow fought and ran, during the chase he managed to run into a group of Miqote and Elezen hunting in the woods. These kind folk came to his aide in halting the Woodwailers advances. After the fight Crow decided to join his rescuers back to their camp and spent the next few years with them. Crow spent this time learning from others about the world from their eyes. How harsh of a place it was, and what trails it faced. He had never really cared about what their actions had really done but realized he hadn't really become his own master. He had simply traded one leader for another. During a routine hit and run, things went awry fast. The cart they went to attack turned out to be carrying Gridanian soldiers who had grown tired of the bandits. During the confusion of the attack, Crow stopped shooting his bow after the realization had sunk in that he was going to die. So rather than fight he decided to run.

Crow eventually ended up in the Central Shroud where he threw away his mask and banked on the title "Adventurer" to let him get by. He took his first actual job as a farmhand at Bentbranch Meadows helping tend to the Chocobo stables. Although the stench oh the birds was unbearable, the birds themselves were not. He took this time to do what he previously had and listen to the locals about the world around him. When the time came for his current job to end, it did so with a recommendation to a "Honey Yard" for a new job. It was during this transition he entered Gridania for the first time. Seeing all the different races in such numbers in one spot was a lot to take in. Too much. He ended up finding the ferry to East Shroud as fast as he could and leaving to his new job. The Honey Yard was a new and enjoyable experience for Crow, he learned about the properties of the honey and nearby herbs as well as nature around the area and finally about the "Elements" he had been warned of so long ago. The job was not without it's dangers. The Honey was a target for local beasts and bandits a like. This time Crow was on the receiving end of bandit strikes and the sinking feeling he felt in his gut as to what he had been doing sank in.

Crow finished out the season with the Honey Yard and decided he wanted to try and do something better with himself. For the first time he felt in control as he took his first steps into adventuring in earnest.

Twenties

::: One realization became quickly evident to Crow. Alone, he was simply not strong enough to take on a lot of jobs. He also could barely read, had no understanding of Gil in the long run, and had no contacts of his own. After completing a job in the North Shroud, Crow retired to the Bobbing Cork. It was there sitting at his table that he saw them, adventured clad in crimson red gear. They had just completed some leve for a patron of the bar it seemed. Crow's ears flicked trying to get as much out of the conversation as he could before a barmaid appeared to check on him. Interrupted, Crow decided to ask the barmaid if she new about the group. She explained to him that the group was called the "Wandering Flames" and that they were a Free Company that accepted work where they could. Crow thought that sounded like himself, and she did say it was free... After working up the words in his mind to ask he approached the group of adventures and managed to stumble through a request of joining their company. A female Miqote stepped forward and examined him before asking what he could do. After a short exchange of talents, the woman decided that he could join but he would have to put in a lot of work to not be some country idiot.

Work had been an understatement from the Miqote he had met who had turned out to be the company leader. She had him put his talents to work, taking care of the companies animals, helping with the garden, and helping with the occasional hunt. Then there was the work he was not good at: reading, writing, basic medical care, riding mounts, understanding laws in the area, and finally aetheryte usage. Crow had never been trained in magick usage so that was one of his more daunting memories. Over time it became more than just refining him into a capable member of the team as he started to join the rest of the company on missions.

And that became his life for the next eight years. What started off as his desire to reform became his journey into being a working cog that benefited the world around him. For the first time he wasn't someone who fetched food, or a tool to harm and gather gil. He was part of a family, and one that he came to love. There were hard times and good times among the Flames but he was happy for what it was in the end.

Then one day a request came in, a Limsan merchant needed help moving freight from Outer La Noscea to Costa del Sol. Originally the main threat was thought to be the Kobold beast tribes, Mamool Ja, and bandits a long the route. Facing such numerous threats the company decided to take everyone to ensure the safety of all involved. The job started off going as expected with attacks from Kobold, some territorial efts, and other agressive beasts. As the company came into Eastern La Noscea they were greeted by an unexpected sight. The Garleans from the nearby Castrum Occiden were on the road. Approached by a detachment they met with a Decurio who questioned where such a big group, some of which showed obvious signs of combat were headed and what the cargo they had was. It was then that the merchants in the group started to get nervous. As the company watched the merchants talk to the Decurio, something seemed amiss. The Decurio struck one of the merchants and then came to the freight and opened a crate. After closing the crate and moving back to his detachment he made a signal and all hell broke loose. Crow never saw what was in the crates before a merchant lie dead and magiteck fireballs slammed into the company. Fighting the Empire he had heard was a fools errand but defending against them proved even more so. Abandonning the cargo and running for Wineport proved faulty. In a last ditch effort they tried to take high ground against the Garleans. Such overwhelming firepower from the Castrum meant having high ground offered no advantage. Harming hyur was no issue but Magiteck Armor was another matter entirely. Crows final moments of this engagement are seared into his every being. The sight of his commander being engulfed in fire, his fellow captain's shield breaking against a vanguard drill and finally the shell landing near him and blasting him and two others off the nearby ledge. The one close of his eyelids before watching his protege collapse against rocks during her fall and finally pain. Crow landed in the Agelyss River and had another fall waiting for him as he landed among the Hidden Falls.

Only bits and pieces of the next two weeks remain in his memory. Crow managed to recover to the point he was able to move. Word had reached him of no one surviving the actual ordeal he was part of. Oficically his company was labeled as smugglers by the guards. Crow laid in bed recovering for a month before making it back to the Wandering Flames base. With only retainers remaining the place felt empty. Yet he needed to recover before being able to do anything else. So over the next year and a half he tried to focus on recovering. While the physical wounds are mostly gone, the mental are not.

Thirties-Present

::: Three years following the events outside Castrum Occiden, Crow had accomplished little. Feeling as he had as a teen he went and sold the old base and moved to new lands entirely. Arriving in Kugane where he heard there was money to be had, jobs to be found, and Garleans to potentially harm was more than he needed to go. Although everything went smoothly he still just felt empty. It came to pass that one of the retainers that stayed with him on this journey finally snapped and called Crow out on his many actions following the Wandering Flames demise. She used the words disappointing, running, shameful, and coward more than once in her verbal assault. What wounds he had were not ready to then be cut deeper into with words than shrapnel ever could. He spent the rest of the day at a bar before making his decision. She was right. He was not a tribal teen anymore. He was the Sixth captain of the Wondering Flames, he had been taught better. He was not upholding the ideals of the company, his comrades, or his past self. Setting off back to Eorzea he looked at the horizon with determination. As the last Wondering Flame he must shine brighter to illuminate the dark places of the world around him.
