Valon Darrowthorn, often called Darrow or Val by those close to him, is a Hyur born in the empire of Ala Mhigo. A strong Highlander, Valon takes great pride in his skill with a lance, a talent he considers tradition passed down through his family. Though no one would consider him the most resilient of Ala Mhigans, he will always remember his home despite being uprooted as a youngster. Despite remaining distanced from the true Ala Mhigan Resistance, he hopes that the once-great Gyr Abania will be removed from the treacherous grasp of the Garlean Empire.

Plying his trade as a savvy businessman and mercenary, Valon does what he can to get by. He considers himself a wanderer, and often travels Eorzea in search of new friends, new business, and new opportunities to enjoy himself. He never shies away from the various company and job boards posted throughout the city-states of Eorzea, and frequently finds himself involved in all manners of work, so long as his moral code isn't compromised by doing so.

Basic Info

LIKES

Food; particularly a meal prepared for him by someone else. Valon loves to eat and almost always has an appetite. He's generally willing to try any culinary dish once, and has acquired quite the palette.
Physical activity. The Highlander keeps himself in very good shape, and loves anything that involves strenuous activity.
Naps. Coupled with a love of exerting energy, Valon often has a need to acquire it. He's generally a deep sleeper, and can snooze in most locations; no bed required.
Crafting - goldsmithing in particular. After spending close to two years working for a mining company in Thanalan with his uncle, he picked up a knack for smithing and crafting with various metals and materials. He's managed to make a few pieces of jewelry worth selling, but most of his creations are imperfect, and simply kept to be worn by him. He considers it far more a hobby than a profession.

DISLIKES

Garleans. He believes he requires no explanation for this.
Reckless individuals that can't listen to directions. On the field of battle, there's nothing worse than someone who will risk the lives of their comrades because they have something to prove.
Being belittled or disrespected because of the history of his homeland.
Being stuck in one place for too long. The Highlander has taken to traveling a great deal since being uprooted from his home as a youngster. He does have a place he calls home, but is often found wandering.

Appearance & Personality

A sturdy frame built with thick muscle usually wrapped in plate trappings, it's not hard to discern what Valon might do for a living. His distinct build and features easily mark him as a Highlander, though he appears far less crude than some of his kin. A well-kept individual he is, one that must always tread a line - lest he be looked at as an Ala Mhigan savage of some fashion.

The concept of war was engrained in Valon's mind early on, and it's one that's remained to this very day. A man of many talents, he considers himself blessed with some measure of skill no matter what weapon he happens to hold - be it a bow, a pair of daggers, or a shield. If given chance to choose, however, the Ala Mhigan mercenary will always favor a lance; the same sort that the generations before him were famous for using.

Though he smiles easily, his natural features always seem to carry some sort of grim expression; a reflection of the past, perhaps, or a hint toward the future. A handsome man, he is, though marred with a single scar that runs over his right eye. He makes no sort of attempt to hide the mark, and most often keeps his brown hair tied back in a ponytail to keep it from masking his face.

Valon is often a surprising individual, especially to those that have encountered the more rowdy of his kin. He is very laid back, and often seeks to have himself a good time above all else. Friendly to a fault, he can often times provide a gruff sarcasm that isn't always welcome - and sometimes misconstrued as a confrontational nature.

RELATIONS

Romantic Interest     Platonic Love      Good Standing     Poor Standing
Audrey Darrowthorn. Despite all she's done for Valon, the two of them remain in poor standing currently. She's been a very good parent to Valon, but her recent decision to move to Gridania to work under the Conjurers Guild has left a sour taste in the Ala Mhigan's mouth, all considering. He visits her infrequently, and usually uses his trips to the Twelveswood as a good excuse to get drunk.
Marcus Kaldaren. Valon's uncle, and more like a second father to him. They get along quite well, even if they see one another infrequently. Almost all of Valon's skill with a lance was learned under Marcus' tutelage.
Gliemont Daibain. The Duskwight mercenary, though an unlikely friend, has known Valon for some time now. The two share a great skill with a lance, and have trained together before while in La Noscea.
Nicholas Graveshire. Though it's unclear how long they've known one another, the two appear to be friends and have worked together in the past. After his most recent work ended in Ul'dah, Valon now finds himself working again with Nicholas under a mercenary company organized by Domri Blackblade.
Domri Blackblade. A fellow Ala Mhigan and fighter, Valon met Domri after tracking down Nick for work. Valon now lives in Domri's home, and gets a good portion of his work through the man.
