Character

Appearance

Velvet, at first glance, is a little more pale than the usual red color of a Hellsguard, and stands at 7 fulms and 8 ilms. Her long, black hair is usually swept back or kept in order with a bandana to keep it from falling over her green eyes. She is lean for a Roegadyn, and keeps herself in shape thanks to routines of exercise and labor. Her attire usually consists of darker colored clothing that goes well with her hair color and contrasts her skin tone, veering more towards cotton and velveteen shirts and kecks of her own make. When she expects to be out for a while, she will usually wear light leather armor and boots, also of darker shades.

Behavior

Even though she tends to be very quiet, she is not at all antisocial. She will hold a conversation as long as she can, especially if the person she is talking to is somewhat interesting to her. Preferring to live more of a simple life, she doesn't furnish herself with anything incredibly fancy or expensive, and is completely content as she is. Velvet prefers to be a little more conservative in divulging her own stories, especially those about her past, but she is much less tight-lipped around close friends.

She prefers not to show anger, fear, or sorrow outwardly, and will often hide it behind a visage of apathy or blunt coldness. If she is unable to mask these feelings, she will try to isolate herself from public so that others do not see her in this state.

Other

Velvet has been able to work her heavy Lominsan accent out of her speech through practice, but every so often, especially in times of excitement, her prose might slip up a bit. Her nameday is the 14th Sun of the Third Umbral Moon. Her guardian is Nymeia, the Spinner.

Combat Style

Velvet prefers to avoid fighting with others entirely, attempting to resolve conflict with careful words if she can help it. Her combat style involves more close-range combat with her shortbow, often running full-tilt at her adversary while firing off arrows in flurries. As soon as she has entered close-quarters combat range, she will attempt a multitude of different tactics depending on circumstances, which include quick, passing off-handed slashes from a dagger, leg sweeps, or heavy flying or roundhouse kicks. If the maneuver leaves her standing and the opponent on the ground, she will fire a quick shot at a critical or exposed area in an attempt to quickly finish the fight, otherwise she will drop her bow in favour of both a shortsword and dagger. If a momentary retreat becomes a safe option, she will take it and repeat her tactics.

Rumors

Common Rumors

  • "Ya seen Vel lately? Yeah, neither have I. Hope the poor girl ain't takin' 'er loss too hard..."
  • "Heard Velvet's gettin' kinda pale, it's like she don't wanna go outside no more. Shame really, I wonder what she's up to?"
  • "Used to be a scout for the Storm so I heard, or at least she was until the day they had to carry her back. Right sobbin' mess she was..."

Uncommon Rumors

  • "Ya think maybe she's found someone to fill that gap in 'er heart yet? She seems mighty fond of that blacksmith down the road."
  • "She wasn't much of an archer, per se. Sure she could shoot an apple off ya head at twenty-five yalms, but she was better at the up close an' personal stuff. Vel might be a big lass, but she sneaks up on me more than them Miqo'te."
  • "She chose not to go back to the Maelstrom, and I don't blame her really. After what she saw happen, I wouldn't want to relive that memory every day of my life."
