Character

General

Virgil is a Miqo'te male who was born and raised within the city-state of Limsa Lominsa, and is without a tribe. He is devoted to the study of magic and strives to ultimately become one of Limsa Lominsa's finest scholars. He was taught the arts of the Arcanist by his teacher,

Appearance

As a Miqo'te, Virgil has the typical Miqo'te ears. His fur and his hair are copper in color, with lighter shading on the tips. Anyone of great perception could tell that his hair is dyed and his face is covered in makeup to make him look like a fullbreed Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te. Without the dye, the tips of his hair takes on a light lavender color. Without the makeup, his skin takes on a slightly more ashen grey tone. He usually covers the rest of his body up because of this, but will dress down if needed, regardless of what other people think about such a thing. His build is rather slim and tall, but not very muscular. He is quite lanky, however.

His clothes often change to whatever suits him at the time. He has several outfits, depending on occasion. However, his most common wear is that which he wears while representing The Maelstrom, donning the Grand Company's deep red colors.

Behavior

Virgil, despite being so young, has the temperament of a much older man. Wise far beyond his years, exceptionally tolerant of others, and sees himself very much as someone who is always happy to lend his aid to anyone in need. Many of his own behaviors are modeled after the Arcanist Guild's Guildmaster, who had mysteriously disappeared during the Fall of Meteor incident. He looks up to his Guildmaster with deep respect as his mentor in life. Virgil is heavily devoted to his studies and his goals to become a scholar because of the Guildmaster's influence.

Virgil doesn't like talking about his parentage. He will speak fondly of his father, who is alive and well as a fisherman and cook in Limsa Lominsa, but when asked about his mother or his tribe, he will often try to evade the question as much as he can without being too rude about it. He does, however, treat Seekers of the Sun and Keepers of the Moon with equal respect. This goes double for both genders of each, something that would be of great surprise to other Miqo'te, who live in very patriarchal or matriarchal societies.

Virgil gets very easily excited over the study of magic and magical theory. He could go on for hours on the subjects of Rift Theory, the symbiosis between Arcanist and Carbuncle, the mutuality between the Conjurer and nature, and even the process in which Thaumaturges channel their own magical energies into fearsome power. Such topics get him very excited and may cause him to ramble on and on about such things, especially so to someone who is willing to listen.

Names are something that Virgil has great difficulty remembering. However, he always apologizes profusely when forgetful of the names of others because he never means it to be an insult, it is simply how his mind works.

In any and all things, Virgil values politeness and kindness above all else. Even the least educated gentleman is far more favorable company than the most educated prude.

Combat

General

Virgil is a master of magical combat and has ample experience in both Conjury and Thaumaturgy while specializing in the Arcane Arts and even uncovering the lost art of the Allagian Scholars. As his own magical skill improves, so too will his combat prowess. His primary weakness lies in the physical combat arts.

Virgil as a respect and admiration for his father as anyone would towards a loving parent. Virgil especially likes his father's grilled fish! His mother's information is not public knowledge. His godfather, Eadgar Fletcher, is a poet living in Limsa Lominsa with his wife, the fisherwoman and G'kala's best friend, Bhariwyb Greinfyswyn (Bar-ee-wibb grine-fiss-win). It was Eadgar and Bhariwyb (Bhari for short) that named Virgil in order to settle a dispute between G'Kala and Virgil's mother.

Friends

Being an unofficial member of the Arcanist's Guild for years prior to his formal admittance in the guild, he has many friends amongst the Arcanist community. He looks at the guildmaster as his mentor.

Enemies

With Virgil's upbringing by both his father and the Arcanist Guildmaster, his personality was shaped into being very tolerant and open-minded early in his life. He has never made any enemies, to his knowledge. However, with his Eorzean citizenship, he may consider anyone who would attack Limsa Lominsa or Eorzea as a whole as being his enemy.

History/Timeline

Virgil was born in Limsa Lominsa. His auburn hair had lavender streaks. His parents argued over how to name the child properly as fitting with custom, when Virgil's named godparents, G'kala's best friends, broke the two of them up and offered to name the child in compromise. The parents both reluctantly agreed and he was named Virgil by his godfather and given the surname Manentyv by his godmother. Weeks later, Asha left Limsa Lominsa without a word, never to return, leaving G'kala to care for the boy. As the boy grew up, he hated the sunlight and would avoid it whenever possible. This interfered with any chance of playing with the other children. It was then that the Arcanist Guildmaster, a friend and regular customer of G'kala's, decided to look after the boy while the boy's father was making a living. While at the Arcanist's Guild, Virgil was taught to read and he read many books and asked many questions. He looked to the Guildmaster as a mentor that he modeled himself after out of the deep respect he had for him.

When he was 16, he saw Bahamut's Mega-Flare light up the skies red with streaks of fire. If not for the Guildmaster using an incredibly powerful Protect spell, Virgil would have surely perished that day. He was then escorted into the Arcanist's Guild and told to stay inside. Once the calamity was over, the Guildmaster was nowhere to be found. In this instance, the assistant Guildmaster took over as acting Guildmaster until the Guildmaster returned. Virgil reluctantly agreed to this and continued to study hard, now with the goal, when he was older, to study all forms of magic, become a Scholar, find the Guildmaster, and return him to Limsa Lominsa.

During his studies, he had heard rumors of his mother from various adventurers, but largely ignored these. He didn't like the idea that his mother was a criminal of theft and treason and tried to block everything out, even going so far as to dye his own hair and apply makeup to hide his own origins.

Eventually, he was formally accepted into the Arcanist's Guild. Proud to accept the honor, he trained hard at his chosen profession and formed a bond with his Carbuncle. His progress was astoundingly fast as he had prepared his entire life for this goal. He has also taken up Conjury and Thaumaturgy in order to improve his own magical knowledge. With these, he has found the Guildmaster and, as per his instructions, continues to study all three main principles of magic without rest. Through perseverance, he has even managed to uncover the secrets behind the lost Scholars. He will continue to study magic and defend Limsa Lominsa to his dying breath.

Virgil was approached by a Hyur by the name of Garryson Shipkeeper with a business proposition one night while Virgil was enjoying a bowl of ice cream: To join a free company of individuals with various skills in differing fields. This free company is known as XI:7, and here he has remained.
