Yumeko [yoo-mee-koh], originally named Ume, is the estranged bastard girl of the Doman Kabuto house. Long-since exiled from the estate and its relations, Yumeko has spent the last several years living as a tramp, traversing the regions of Othard with only herself to call her own. Some know her as "Little Yuna", or child prostitute, while those that know her better would name her "freedom fighter" or "blood collector". She is a late arrival among the exodus of Doma.
"I have heard you are the average of those closest to you, except, all I've known are falsehoods and fibs. The old man was a young boy, the boy was a girl, the girl was a cold-blooded killer, and my mother- ...my mother wasn't my mother, she was mad. So, what does that make me?"

Roleplay Hooks

Seeking...

  • Other Doman role-players. Hooks being:
  • Yumeko was a resistance fighter, but moved often between towns to uphold pretences and negate suspicion. Did she meet your character along the road? Did they travel together?
  • She was a resistance courier between several different factions and shinobi clans prior to the razing. Her name may be on your character's list of friendlies.
  • Due to war-trauma and a very black-and-white tunnel vision, Yumeko could not always discern friend from foe, and as such, has hurt many Domans indiscriminately in her freedom campaign. Was one of them close to your character?
  • Yumeko was one of the very last people to escape the razing of Doma. Others - only a handful - would have been on her boat. Was your character one of them?
  • Characters that may be able to utilize Yumeko's skills and employ her OR offer her an opportunity to learn something totally different. This would likely be a planned "random" encounter of some descript. Does not have to be legal, it just has to be pitched well so she thinks it is worth her time.
  • Anyone who may want to play Yumeko's sister, Mino. /Tell me in-game if you're interested and we can discuss! Mino would be a lot worse off than Yumeko, mentally speaking. She has been indoctrinated by the Garleans for several years and served in their military. She should be somewhere in Eorzea, Yumeko just does not know where yet.
  • Andddd other stuff!

Rumours

Common
  • "That girl has a funny way of showing her appreciation! She ain't singing our praises, no. "Battle cries to baby's cries"... She doesn't consider us Eorzeans worth two shites, that much is clear. Well if she don't like it here, she can bloody well go home! I won't stop her."
Moderate
  • "That's what we call 'fatigue of the mind'. There are wounds of battle, and then there are wounds of war. Some people just never come back."
Rare
  • "It was just starting to go bad...I mean, before Doma's fall. ...I was at the post office, waiting for a message from my brother, when a couple of young Imperials entered...and, I don't know why, but they grabbed this lady - all rough-like - asking after something or another and just...causing trouble. A scuffle broke out then, and this girl, she had a gun - I hadn't seen it till then - and she raised and...and shot it. She killed the soldiers. We were scared, but we were thankful... ... ...until she wouldn't lower the gun...but turned and shot it-! ...Again...again...again... They were our people! ...They weren't Garleans...they were Domans. It was Doman blood."

Character Description

Mekoaetheryte.png
Names and Etymology: Yumeko or 有美子, intended forename. Yumeko is spelt with the characters "exist, beauty, child", although the intent was for it to be interpreted as "Child of Dreams" or "Child of Illusions". Yumeko's mother claimed she heard it in a dream.
Ume or うめ, forename given by her "father" because Yumeko was "absurd and ridiculous". Ume means "plum blossom". Later adjusted in spelling to 代目, meaning "generation glance" or "viewpoint" - an elegant name typically assumed by courtesans. Yumeko personally considered it a joke. She also sometimes went by Yuna (湯女).
"Dreamcatcher" may as well be called her code-name. The Blood Collectors assumed the traditional Doman surname conventions that normally were used in contemporary culture for those from the high-born or military elite.
Nameday: 12th Sun of the 6th Umbral Moon.
Element: Lightning.
Hometown: n.a.
Citizenship: None currently - street urchin.
Family: Kabuto no Yoshi, Father [Alive]; Kinu [Deceased], Mother; Kabuto no Mino [Alive], Younger Sister
Past Jobs: Delivery girl; Not-for-sale courtesan; Resistance courier; Saboteur; Freedom singer.

Appearance

Eyes Hair Skin Body Type Voice
Light blue-purple irises with striking purple limbal rings. Dark-circles beneath eyes. Naturally flaxen blonde. It is currently white. Very pale. Feminine, wispy, waifish. Sylphlike. Sweet-sounding and disarming; like early morning rain against the window-pane. It is deceptively child-like and cute.
Height Weight Bearing Notable Features Clothing Style
4 fulms 9 ilms. Approximately 90 ponze. Graceful, alluring and cat-like. Eerily quiet. Pixie-like face and form. Tiny (even by Auri standards). Her horns are narrow and elven-shaped; tail slender and barbed. Neck tattoo with the Doman characters "love" and "crime", and facial tattoo on her right cheek of a purple dragon. Modest but not prudish; inconspicuous yet stylish. Prefers dark or muted colours, clunky boots, and form-fitting articles. Much of her wardrobe is tattered or "well-worn".

Paper-thin and almost as white, Yumeko is an ethereal-looking creature. Her facial features are elegant and elfin; she has small, plumped lips, a long, slightly hawkish nose, thin cheeks, and eyes a muted violet, shaped by sorrow to appear both caring and cold. There is no immediate trace of battle or hardship on her, visible skin a cared for snowy-pale. Between her pallid complexion and the dark-circled gaze, one could certainly discern that Yumeko, despite the namesake, does not find rest easily.
Not unlike those of her race, Yumeko's comportment is graceful, deliberate and martial. Her posture is straight, her gait refined, her manner assured; Yumeko appears the paragon of nobility...still, a sense or feeling lingers beneath the face and her movements, something enigmatic, maybe hostile, instilling a fey foreboding. Observed well enough, one can sometimes catch the faintest hint of a smirk on her moon-lit lips, or the shadow of something sinister about her eyes. To most though, Yumeko appears shy, if not a little bored; she is caught somewhere between warm and cold. Her voice is suitable to her appearance, feminine and dreamy with an ominous aura.

History

Timeline

  • Born (approx.) 1562 to her mother, Lady Kinu, and (presumably) "father", Lord Kabuto no Yoshi. Rumour and superstition surround this birth - was it an affair; a union with a yokai? - as Kinu's pregnancy remained unnoticed until the midwife assured her that she had a "healthy, baby girl." Yoshi always resented Yumeko, though he could find no evidence to support her illegitimacy. She was named Ume at this time.
  • Within the year Mino was born, Yumeko's sister. Perfectly legitimate and of unquestionably noble blood, Yoshi prized his second daughter and his favour was no secret.
  • As only a cycle separated them in age, Yumeko and Mino grew up to be very close. Competitive...but close. Unfortunately the circumstances of their family put strain on the sisters, often substituting inclusion with alienation and love with resentment. Yumeko, under her mother's protective wing, was to be allowed in any activities Mino was involved in. This included formal education, the arts, traditional Auri martial training, and participation in the Kabuto family trade. These lessons lasted until Yumeko was about ten years old before the doors were closed.
  • Kinu began to be plagued by "waking dreams" or "day visions" in which she believed she could pass between worlds and even transcend time. Her fortunes would have been dismissed as the babbling of a drifting mind...had it not been for the predictions turning true. The family hushed it up as best they could, for they were not unaware of the Garlean interest in the rumoured Eorzean power, the "Echo."
  • 1574. Winter. Kinu was nearly consumed by her madness, leaving Yumeko to be neglected and shunned by the rest of the family. She was no longer permitted to join her sister in classes or participate in clan activities, and had been denied these privileges for some time.
  • ...To be continued.

Background

Kinu... was an Auri woman who came from "farmstock"...albeit prestigious farmstock. Her family were long-standing combatants in the war for Othard's independence, though any hint of that past was promptly erased with the bondage of Doma to the Empire. They assumed their previous pretense as farmers to negate the Garlean eye and avoid any compulsory recruitment to the military. The family (or clan - they were quite extensive in their blood-ties) held a large property of land, which remained (until its discovery) as a base of subterfuge and resistance because of its underground tunnels and labyrinths, buried beneath the vast fields and extending for malms. Their shinobi practices, while still existent, took on a religious tone in time, and the sunken rooms became places of secret worship and pockets for cultural resistance.
Kinu's marriage to Kabuto no Yoshi was arranged by family to embed an agent within a Garlean-loyal house and extract information for the still-kicking Doman fight for independence. Kinu's eventual mental instability (and therefore lack of discretion) led to the downfall of the Au'Ra faction, and the farm and its tenants are no more.
The Kabuto... were Garlean-loyalists who had pledged their allegiance to the Empire long before the victor in the Doman conflict was decided. Noblemen and women belonged of this house - artisans who had made their fortune and name in the sacred art of swordsmithing. With Doma's fall and consequential servitude, their practice shifted to not only the forging and folding of steel for Garlemald's military expansion, but also the supply and repair of war machines and magitek. Held in high regard by their master for their unwavering loyalty and worth in steel, they had but one request for their service: "We govern ourselves. We take care of ourselves. Family is family business. We keep our own."
The revealing of a "kunoichi" in their midst - with the Echo, no less - definitely did nothing to improve their relations, and since Kinu's discovery, the family's reputation with the Garleans has soured drastically. They remained during the razing of Doma to the best of Yumeko's knowledge, and likely continue to work as thralls to this day; unfortunately with less benefits.

Trivia

  • Personality Type: INFJ
  • She was born on the 12th Sun of the 6th Umbral Moon - the corresponding month for the Keeper. Her guardian deities are Fate, Time and Destruction, though she is not personally committed to the Twelve.
  • Despite Yumeko's previous status as a sex worker (and her current obsession with sex and looking sexy), Yumeko has chosen a life of sexual abstinence.
  • Yumeko was tattooed against her will when she failed to provide a licence for her (claimed) work practice. They decided to provide her with a licence instead. A permanent one.
  • She will under-dress herself when she believes the article of clothing or jewellery is "too pretty for her."
  • A habit cultivated by the need to keep her identity concealed, Yumeko constantly changes her hair colour and style. This can make it very difficult to discern her in public.
