Character

General

Eric Verus is a new adventurer to Eorzea. His origins mostly shrouded in secrecy, it is know that he is striken with a strange magical illness. He travels the lands in search of Allagan secrets, which he believes to be tied to his curse.

Appearance

• Height: Short for Midlander

• Weight: Lightweight, about 130 ponz

• Body: Slender but not frail

• Hair: Combed-back brown-blond hair in streaks, goatee

• Eyes: Bright Light-Blue

• Skin: Pale

• Clothing: Eric typically is seen wearing mage robes and other forms of warm clothing, even when in warmer climates.

Behavior

Eric has a reserved, but warm nature. Enjoying quiet conversations one on one with individuals, but straying away or to the side of a crowd when one is gathered. He is quite familiar with intrigue of courts and even feels as comfortable in such environments as one can be. He has begun to adapt to the customs of Eorzea and has grown to adapt it as his new home.

When it comes to combat or moments of high tension, Eric seems to be cold, analytic, and confrontational. Losing his composure only in the presence of Voidsent, which has resulted in very reckless and aggressive demeanor, charging headlong into combat with little regard to his own safety.

Eric is fiercely caring for his friends, even beyond his own well being and maintains a constant state of low-self esteem when it comes to the possibility of losing them for any reason.

Combat

General

Eric is skilled in the mage arts, in spite of his begrudging them. His quick wit and assessment of a situation enables him to adapt to a combat environment and manage accordingly. And his talent for magic is considered quite above average - maintaining pacing ahead of his peers without any known formal education.

However, his condition weakens him physically and he is reliant on his magic to hold him in the fights. This has effected his magical leanings to the arcane, in which he can summon creatures to aid him while in danger and allow him time to assess and manipulate the battle from afar.

In spite of his condition, however, it is revealed that he has had training in the art of light-weight bladed weapons, to a rather extensive measure. However the traditional swords available to him in Eorzea often prove to be too weighty to support his combat style. Eric is proficient with the use of a dagger and has started a collection of knives he has acquired in his journey.

The Tell-Tale Feathers

Eric has a preference, on occasion, to write to individuals for communication rather than only rely on linkshells and other methods. This allows him to better contemplate his words and standing with the individual whom he wishes to contact.

As part of his contemplation he writes each individual is that depending on the emotional inspiration incited by the thoughts of the individual, Eric writes with a Quill Pen of a different feather. The feelings are further emphasized by the condition the feather is presented in.

Blow is a brief description of what each feather means for Eric:

Cock Feather: An especially close male: Someone who Eric would freely trust with his life and secrets. Letters delivered with high quality Cock Feather are likely individuals whom Eric holds as close as his own brother.

Swan Feather: An especially close female: Someone who Eric would freely trust with his life and secrets. Letters delivered with high quality Swan Feathers are likely individuals whom hold romantic interest for Eric.

Chocobo Feather: An individual on friendly terms. High quality feathers in this field indicate Eric's consideration of the individual as part of his inner circle.

Eagle Feather: An individual known on official or business terms. High quality feathers indicate a high level of professional respect for the addressee.

Dodo Feather: An individual whom Eric feels tension or conflict towards. Dodo Feathers indicate that on the subject of the tension, Eric feels indebted or in the wrong.

Cockatrice Feather: An individual whom Eric feels tension or conflict towards. Contrary to Dodo, Cockatrice Feathers indicate that Eric does not feel submissive or in the wrong about the issue in question.

Crow Feather: Reserved for addressing enemies, or the deceased. Crow feathers will be used when addressing them as a subject matter as well as a warning to friends and allies of the subject.

Relationships

Family

Luc' nan Verus - Father

Not much is known about Eric's father. Eric has only personally imposed that his father was distant during the entirety of his life, likely due to guilt over Eric's curse and the death of his mother. Eric bears his father no ill will, but his attachment to his distant father is minimal.

Bradamante nan Verus - Mother (deceased)

Once an established warrior maiden in the houses of Garlemald, Eric's mother met an unfortunate end at the hands of a curse. While accusations have been made to a rather famous individual, they were discarded on behalf Luc's poor standing and whispers of illegal magic used in the family. Eric was recovered from his dead mother's womb, and has survived his life living with a fragment of the curse that killed his mother.

Hyrist Verus - Brother

Protective, and overbearing, but warm. Eric has conflicted feelings about his brother since the death of Eric's first girlfriend, after being discovered with her practicing Arcana. While Hyrist pushed in defense of himself, he allowed Lycelle to die in a public execution and forced his Eric to watch. Afterwards Hyrist has grown distant from Eric, an issue which has bothered Eric from some time.

Friends

Alothia Starkwood

Eric's employer, and closest friend. For a time Eric had strong romantic feelings for Alothia before she became involved with K'anko Tia. However, in respect for their relationship, Eric has made an effort to suppress those feelings and focus on friendship and business between them. In spite of this, there is no other individual on Eorzea he trust more and views her as closer to him than his own family.

K'anko Tia

As the man Eric lost Alothia's affections to, Eric oddly has a tremendous amount of respect and admiration towards K'anko. However, due to misunderstanding K'anko's particular abilities, Eric has endangered the man's life on two occasions, a matter that has caused a severe amount of guilt on Eric's behalf. Aside from that, Eric's opinion of the man's free will and outward kindness are values Eric deeply admires, as well as a slight envy of K'anko's physical skill. Were it not for remaining tensions, Eric would trust the man implicitly.

Lily Dawnsworn

A warrior woman who has earned Eric's trust and admiration. Her cool demeanor and firm kindness has been a steadfast reliance when Eric's ability to reason through his turmoils and trials falters. Her steadfast watch over Eric during his darkest hours with the curse has sparked a faint affection for the woman, one that he holds cautiously due to her cool exterior. However, recent tensions in her life has renewed his inner vow to grow stronger in order to stand by her side as an equal.

Vash Ashford

A brash young Miqo'te who feels himself to compete for Lily's affections. Eric finds Vash's energetic nature to be often wreck-less and inconsiderate of others.The stark differences in personalities, yet physical resemblance to K'anko Tia are perhaps the source of this distaste, as Eric views K'anko's playfulness and seriousness to be appropriately balanced and tempered with a sense of importance, where as Vash seems wild and undisciplined in contrast.
