Often seen drinking, working or some combination of the two, Sylastair seems to take very few things seriously. He's been associated with several mercenary groups, and still has ties to the Eorzean Garden (though what those ties are specifically is a matter of debate). Operating mostly out of Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, Sylastair has no issue with pestering a random stranger for entertainment or to kill some time between jobs. APPEARANCE Sylastair falls a bit on the lanky side, thin musculature a sign of poor diet or fast metabolism. His height, a little over 6 fulms only accentuates his lankiness. His hair is a dark brown, and rather unkempt by most accounts (though he at least has the decency to tie it back most times). No scars or tattoos are visible with most of his outfits, all of which seem to have a chocobo wrangler/Thanalan ranger flavor to them, and he appears to be in his mid-twenties. PERSONALITY Sylastair doesn't seem to have a firm grasp on polite conversation or the right and wrong times to make jokes. While not overly caustic or rude, he certainly has his own measure of polite and impolite that others (see: many) may not agree with. While occasionally well spoken, Sylastair prefers blunt, honest people to those who would dance around the truth or talk just to hear themselves speak. Sylastair also freely admits much of his image is just that, an image. He acknowledges how the world sees him and does his best to utilize that to his advantage (or at least to make a joke or two at his expense). LIKES 1. Magitek 2. Good Whiskey 3. Betelgeuse Customs Single Revolver: A vintage Garlean made pistol, single action capable of holding six rounds. Gil Pouch: Usually contains 1200-1600 gil. Eorzean Garden Identification: Documentation showing Sylas' status as a SeeD graduate. Folded Photograph: A worn photo he carries in his jacket. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION Sylastair's accent is difficult to place, but exists somewhere between Texan and "American" Irish (Boston). COMBAT & WEAPONRY Sylas has received a wide array of training, from his time as a younger man in the Garden to his brief stint with the Maelstrom. Throughout this time however he has focused on honing his own personal style of combat using both sword and gunplay to varying degrees of success. Mark I "Shatterhart" Great-Blade The Mark I Great-Blade is a weapon crafted and designed (mostly) by Sylastair. Utilizing schematics for magitek powered weapons and armor, Sylas fashioned a sword powered by demimateria. When activated the blade can vibrate at high speeds, allowing it to cut through dense substances but often making the weapon unwieldy or unstable. Betelgeuse Customs Single Shot Pistol Sylastair's pistol is a vintage Garlean handgun, utilizing an older single action firing mechanism that only allows for one shot at a time, but can hold three cartridges at a time. While the gun is a bit of an antique, and not nearly as powerful as a Machinist's weapon it is well cared for and finely crafted, with a silver wolf's head attached on the bottom of the pistol grip. Thanalan Leathers Inc. "Survival Hat" It's literally just a hat. Training & Academics Sylastair's first self defense lessons came from his older sister, Inga. Initially, Sylas wanted nothing to do with fighting or even learning to defend himself. He preferred tinkering and building to fighting, finding much of what his sister told him to be at best a waste or time and at worst idiotic. He put little effort into learning both about his heritage and fight, and as such had little to show in martial prowess. It wouldn't be until several years later, after 'volunteering' to join the newly created Maelstrom that Sylas would begin truly learning how to fight under his new Commanding Officer (and would be employer nearly a decade later). After an all too brief stint with the Maelstrom, Sylas found himself enrolled in the mercenary organization known as "The Garden". A much different man now, Sylas concerned himself only with mastering the sword and becoming the most capable fighter he could. In the running for worst student ever to pass through the Garden's halls, it is believed by some that the only reason Sylas was given 'Graduate' status was simply to get him out of the hair of his now frazzled instructors.
