Towards the edge of the SagoliI Desert resides a small pocket of the Hipparion Seeker tribe, where K’naji was born and raised. They are known for their perhaps unhealthy obsession with competitiveness, but it made them a strong and determined people, well tested by the elements and fearful of nothing. If you were born a tia, you were expected to start training to challenge the nunh as soon as you came of age. Until the big day, young tia tribe-wide were pushed to fight with each other as their training. Strength, agility, and poise were highly valued among them, and every boy’s dream was to become nunh. The nunh at the time was particularly inclined to goading the children on, arrogantly parading his title around every chance he got. As a child, K’naji possessed strength - but neither patience nor precision. He would be easily taken down by the other boys despite his potential, but he kept fighting because he'd been told to. His track record was definitely nothing special when it was his time to challenge his nunh. He put much effort into training for the big day, hoping it would pay off-- K’naji was completely floored. Despite being handed a loss, he insisted on trying again right then and there. He had done everything right, yet why couldn't he succeed? His mother had to break up the fight when she realised K’naji was not going to back down despite his worsening state. In his anger and embarrassment, K’naji packed what he had and took a trader’s caravan further out than he'd ever travelled before - to Ul’dah. Perhaps here, he could find a way to improve himself and return home a champion. It wasn't surprising at all that he gravitated towards the Pugilist’s Guild when he got there. Hamon was incredibly piqued by his potential, though it was clear to him that there was a deep bitterness inside K’naji. He would improve, but it was never enough. Despite being away from the tribe, he had already fallen back into old habits. It took many events to open his eyes. From fighting corruption in Ul’dah, to rediscovering his enjoyment of archery in Gridania… out here, he was wanted, needed... Suddenly, being ‘just a tia’ didn't matter anymore. When he thought about it more carefully, he realised becoming nunh was never something he wanted to do. The world was a lot bigger than the tribe, and he had a much bigger part to play in it.
