"I much prefer the quiet life."

Hailing from Southern Thanalan, K'naji is a dissatisfied tia trying to find his place in the world. He is a fervent student of the fist and the bow, lending his skills to whoever needs him. As a country boy from the desert, there is much of Eorzea and beyond he has yet to experience for himself.

The tia life is not always a peaceful one, but he will take fate as it falls into his lap.

"At least The Wanderer will have my back."

Towards the edge of the Sagolii Desert resides the Drifters, a Hipparion Seeker tribe, where K’naji was born and raised. They are known for their perhaps unhealthy obsession with competitiveness, but it made them a strong and determined people, well tested by the elements and fearful of nothing.

K’naji was born into a generation of tia who were all eyeing the position of nunh. Naturally this rubbed off on him as well, and as soon as they came of age, the elders pit them against each other as part of their training. As a child, K’naji possessed strength - but neither patience nor precision. The other tia surpassed him with age despite being promising in his early years. His position as favourite was lost over time, but pressure from the other children and elders remained. He would show them, he thought.

Overconfidence got the better of him, and his first challenge ended in a humiliating loss. Training for the second attempt was never the same, nor was the third, or the subsequent ones after that. Most tia knew when to stop and reassess - but not K’naji. His stubbornness only bred more contempt among the elders til they all told him he would never be more than a striking dummy. Hearing those words, K’naji packed up in embarrassment and ran to Ul’dah.

He arrived in the city with nothing but the clothes on his back, a worn pair of hora, and a scorned spirit. With the intent to become nunh on his return, he gravitated towards the Pugilist’s Guild for guidance. Hamon was incredibly piqued by his potential, though it was clear to him that there was a deep bitterness inside K’naji. It took some time for him to accept help from Hamon and his contacts, still easing out of the attitude he left his tribe with - that he could make it out here on his own. Ul’dah was a place where money controlled the hierarchy, learning the hard way that he would have to try a lot harder as a transient if he wanted to survive.

He eventually was able to get off the streets, turning to his talent of hunting, for coin. The longer he spent living in the community and helping others in their day to day, the more he realised returning was not what he wanted. Becoming nunh was a dream he once had - but one born of peer pressure and not of his own making. At the revelation, a burden was lifted. He stayed on in Ul’dah, taking life at his own pace.

Nunh was just a title anyway. The world was much bigger than that.

Drifters of the Palm

It is well known to the Drifters that generations ago, their forefather and some females from the home tribe made their way from Gyr Abania to find a place for themselves, deciding to settle in the deserts of Thanalan. The bloodline of this original nunh has since thinned due to a previous nunh being only half-Gyr Abanian.

They live on a south-facing cliff of the Sagolii Desert, the Sun’s Hand. From anywhere in that area, it is possible to see the path of the sun through the sky from dawn till dusk. The tribe see the sun cycle as the daily opening and closing of Azeyma’s fan, held by the cliff directly under it. The original nunh named his new home after such an interpretation of its geographical features. Being semi-nomadic they spend their lives in tents, moving around the Sun’s Hand according to the migration of wildlife.

While their patron deity is Azeyma like most Keeper tribes, minor patronage is also given to Rhalgr and Nald’thal, reflections of the tribe’s mixed heritage. It is not commonplace for one to follow Azeyma only - most of the tribe follow one or both the minor deities.

The tribe consists of archers, pugilists and rogues. Quick hunters and fighters sustain the tribe’s needs and help protect it from the Amalj’aa and roaming desert creatures. Most of the Miqo’te begin with pugilism as kits, before branching out into other disciplines.

You may see some Drifters passing through Nald’s Reflection and Little Ala Mhigo on their way north to Ul’dah. Traders come infrequently, so the tribe is mostly self sustaining. Bartering is used instead of currency, so they are sure to bring goods with them to sell for coinage when they travel.

"Am I really like that?"

Quick-tempered // Persistent // Aloof // Lonely // Bratty // Impatient // Fiercely independent

K’naji’s face and first impressions usually betray who he is inside. Most people would say he looks distant, even rude, with his seemingly furrowed brows and golden stare. Up close and personal he is not as scary as his demeanour seems to say he is. Going beyond his quiet exterior, K’naji is actually quite easy to get acquainted with. He is happy to make friendly chit chat with strangers who dare approach him. When it comes down to more personal matters, he clams up. If you place value in knowing such matters about friends, a relationship with him may feel shallow, when you take a step back.

K’naji is distrusting of others, having been consistently berated and belittled from childhood. He has let this shape his mentality, previously placing a mental cap on his own strength and skill. Knowing how stifling that was, he now mostly relies on himself in order to break those bonds, but often forgets to seek help and advice where he should. It will take a few blows until he finally caves in, to accept help from the other people in his life. K’naji finds it embarrassing to admit to a mistake, but at least he’s honest about it.

He can be fairly hasty about certain matters, leading him to jump to anger prematurely. His usual hard-working nature becomes stubbornness out of dissatisfaction, more often than not to his own detriment. Goals become infinitely distant and his thinking focuses on his own inadequacies and hyperbolic foolishness.

K’naji is learning to be more considerate of others, finding he is opening up in response to the new world around him. With the freedom away from home he is able to be himself, smiling more, laughing more, being free to make more mistakes. Social life has brought out the cheery, upbeat side of himself, though he is learning the skepticism of his quick temper and sharp tongue does not always rub off well on others.

Likes

Green. It’s a colour so different to the desert, he’ll tell you. It’s nice to look at, it's nice to wear. His go-to dye of choice is Olive Green.
Hunting. K’naji always went to the wilds to clear his head back home. Something about it takes him away from stress and troubles whenever he sets off. He makes a bit of money on the side selling carcass parts. If you’re with him, don't be surprised if he gifts you some fresh steaks.
Swimming. He grew to like it somewhat when he was still rooming with Rivaer back in The Mist. Since he moved out to the Goblet he’s missed the blue waters, but at least there are alternatives he can use for cooling down.

Dislikes

Arrogance. K’naji has had to experience enough of this back home, and tolerating it only ended up for the worst. Out in the wider world, he wouldn't waste time on those who seem to think they’re a grade above the rest. If anything it only makes K’naji angry and willing to put them in their place.
Rain. It makes him cold, he thinks it smells strange, and it makes everything wet. He will appreciate a light shower from under shelter, but a full storm is definitely something he would like to stay out of.
Cold. As a child born and bred of the desert, it comes as no surprise that chilly weather gets the better of K'naji. He insists on a fairly long hot soak in the bath when he returns from cold places, to thaw out, as he puts it.

Quirks

Climbing. An old childhood habit that followed him into adulthood. K’naji was one of the best climbers of his tribe, and that hasn't changed. He climbs for two reasons however - he's bored, or he's upset. Some report it's hard to tell between the two emotions. You'll find him in high places - roofs, hills, atop gates...
Sleeps anywhere. A somewhat handy ability while on the road. He's able to fall asleep without issue anywhere he rests. Whether it be on the best bed money can buy, or a dusty roadside corner, K’naji can sleep easily (and well!).
Singing. K’naji is mildly talented, though he will never brag about it. When alone, he may absentmindedly start to hum or recite songs from his tribe, or other songs he learned under his bard discipline.
Camping. Sometimes he will just pack up a tent and supplies, and disappear into the wild for a few days. He doesn't miss his tribe, but he does miss the nomadic life sometimes. K'naji is usually seen hunting, training or sightseeing on these trips.

"My strength will prevail."

Monk

As per tribe tradition, K’naji was trained in pugilism as a child. He knew the basics, but growing up he never quite learned how to hone his potential. Years of flawed training developed his technique into something inefficient and sloppy - so when he put his best foot forward, it was trampled on.

Rewriting his mistakes became easier under the tutelage of Hamon and the Pugilist’s Guild when he arrived in Ul’dah. In addition, he was also learning from Rivaer, learning how to alter pugilism to suit his physique. Only then did he slowly begin to improve and tidy up his style. K’naji does not actively prescribe to any of the existing schools or styles of pugilism, instead mixing and matching whatever he finds works for him.

Outside of the Guild, K’naji occasionally takes part in underground matches against pugilists from Ul’dah and beyond for coin. He is considered a strong contender in certain circles, fighting long, hard, and fair. He sports a green togi at most show fights, originally a prize he won in his early days on the circuit.

When he learned Rivaer was a monk, he asked the elezen to teach him. He hoped he he could prove the discouraging words of his elders wrong and surpass his own level of pugilism. For K’naji, training as a monk has been a disciplining and soul searching venture more than anything else.

K’naji’s style is a mix of Wing Chun and capoeira, relying on reflexes and parrying to reach his opponent. He partially relies on inertia to grant him reach and power.

Archer

K’naji’s archery encompasses mostly hunting techniques, with precision and stealth being his fortes. His keen eyesight and archery trickery allow him to manoeuvre through herds of game to target a specific beast with ease. He has a longbow for sniping and a horse bow for shooting on chocoboback.

In his spare time he enjoys learning and practicing trick shots. He drops by the Archer’s Guild whenever he happens to be in the Shroud to show off, much to guildmaster Luciane’s amusement.

He has picked up some basic bardcraft, though for him it is more of a hobby than anything. K’naji’s songs rely very little on instruments, exuding a different kind of sound to most bards. He has learned to transfer some tribal songs to instrumental performances, however.

"Trust me, I've met stranger."

Stories

NPC

K’joku Nunh ( ) - Sire
An arrogant Miqo’te who loves nothing but goading on his kits to try and take him on. Tribe rumour says he has always been like that, but tribe culture accepts his attitude as beneficial. His spite and pride over weaker tia are what drove K’naji away from the tribe. He has no respect for him and would rather never have to deal with him ever again.
K’asa Suuk ( ) - Mother
With an almost queenly demeanour, K’asa usually leads the hunts within the tribe. She instilled a deep love for it within K’naji from a young age. She is somewhat strict but forgiving. The importance of her role in the tribe means she hasn't been able to leave to find him, although she would very much like to. They miss each other very much.
K'suuk ( ) - Elder
A strict Miqo’te who only expects the best from the young of the tribe. He finds K’naji’s repeated challenges a farce, and was one of several elders who told him to quit. K’suuk doubts the boy will ever return to the Palm.

PC

Rivaer Pelderain ( ) - Monkbro
A Wildwood of few words who took K’naji in as a favour to Hamon of the Pugilist’s Guild. They often train together, the miqo’te learning from his elezen senior.

K’naji finds him awkward but endearing, and a standard of adventurer he’d like to be someday. He holds a great deal of respect for his skill and generosity. Rivaer is not the easiest person to read, but he appreciates his patience and understanding when it comes to dealing with a bratty teenage cat.

H'aylio Rhu ( ) - The Huntress
A fellow Seeker he met at a Lominsan marketplace while he was selling carcass parts and meat. They quickly bonded over archery and hunting.

K’naji finds her nice company, a bard who is as quick on her feet as she is in wit. She seems passionate about everything she does - and everyone she meets.

Masisi Masi ( ) - Sparkle Girl
An overenthusiastic Lalafell he met while on a hunt. Masisi just wants to help, but her magic is often too flashy and serves as a distraction to the hunt.

K’naji appreciates her effort for her craft and her company - when she is not too close. He doesn't appreciate her invasive manners.

Rikuso Tsunai ( ) - Puppy Eyes
A Xaela dating Rivaer. It was too easy to recognise his puppy love for his mentor, and K’naji only wishes for him to grow as both a healer and a friend.

K’naji thinks he shouldn’t be so worrisome about things, and just go with the flow. He is an excellent listener and even more eager learner, something he finds admirable.

Out Of Character

Hello! You can call me Kishi. I am an illustrator and animator when I'm not mucking around in Eorzea. My usual handle is kishi-san, so if you recognise that, hello again.

This page is more or less finished - some other bits I do want to clean up and pretty a bit more but that can wait.

OOC INFORMATION

Personal RP Limits
I will play mature content and themes (violence, drug / alcohol use) as long as they're logical in a plot-driven encounter. Coarse and excessive language. Temporary injury and incapacitation. Temporary imprisonment. Most walk-up encounters.
Ask about sparring, headcanons, past relationships, K clan shenanigans.
I won't play permanent character death, injury or disfigurement. I won't play smut or anything overtly sexual (not my thing).

Disclaimer
I have never RP'd in an MMO community before, so bear with me.
If an aspect of RP makes you uncomfortable in a scene we're playing, please send me a /tell, letting me know. Communication is very important, more important than potentially keeping immersion.
My log-in schedule can be irregular - if this whole RP thing kicks off for me I will devise some way to work around that and manage my RPs outside of the game as well (at this stage maybe Discord?)

CHARACTER TIDBITS

Miscellaneous Info
Things you never really need to know, but will be told anyway.
■ K’naji was very close to his biological mother when he was back in the tribe, but will only return to see her when he feels he won’t make a fool of himself in front of the elders.
■ Around the Sagolii, K’naji is mockingly nicknamed The Stray, after the nature of his departure from the home tribe. The Drifters think he is too cowardly to come back.
■ He is immediately wary and skeptical about nunh he meets due to his very narrow range of experiences with his own. He opens up once he finds out otherwise.
■ His canon mount is Qiko (CHEE-ko), his chocobo. It is goobbue grey and is often loaded with game carcasses and camping gear.
■ He isn't exactly 5 fulms 7 ilms, but a tiny bit shorter than that. He's bitter he will likely never reach the full number.
■ Tends not to introduce himself with Tia attached to his name, and sometimes may leave out his tribe letter - so usually Naji, or K’naji. He greatly dislikes being addressed by Tia, if it isn’t in a formal context where such addressing is the norm.
■ Will flick both his ears and tail simultaneously if embarrassed.
■ Took to worshipping Oschon when he left his tribe. He also gives minor patronage to Nald’thal.

Potential Plot Hooks
■ Goes game hunting for a price.
■ Climbs buildings and other things whenever, wherever he feels like.
Shows off trick shots at the Archer’s Guild from time to time.
Participates in underground fighting rings around Ul’dah.
