− | + | In the years preceding the Seventh Umbral Calamity, there existed a gang of male youths in Limsa Lominsa called the ''Red Colts.'' Their reputation surmounted to little more than petty thievery and misdemeanours, but the gang was known to other Limsans by their marked faces; a personalisation tattooed in red ink. Anaguma's mark is an ornate dagger and similar in design to his misericordes, the '''Red Mercies.''' Most of the gang perished during the Seventh Umbral Calamity, swept away by a great tidal wave. They are survived by their last two members; Anaguma and his friend, Sylbswerd Lydirgybal. | |

He instead approaches his opposition with a more "rough and tumble" attitude, at least initially. |
− | + | He wields his '''Red Mercies,''' a special commission of Naldiq & Vymelli's [https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/High_Steel_Kris Misericordes] (the Ishgardian word meaning "mercy"), in which he has aptly named. Each misericorde consists of a pair of tempered blades attached to a polished grip, thick enough to parry larger arms yet thin enough to strike through the gaps between armour plates. Via a complex system of gears, the blades can be folded back for storage or concealment. These gears, however, must be oiled regularly lest they jam upon the blades' release. - ''Encyclopedia Eorzea II, pg. 199'' | |
− | + | Anaguma is a Jōnin (lit. High Ninja) and has therefore mastered not only the martial techniques, but the art of three-mudra ninjutsu. The advanced abilities he wields deviate significantly from what is available to the Warrior of Light, with far more emphasis on subtlety and elusiveness instead of destruction, for the most part. This divergence in martial ability, but also in his disposition, is what earns him the epithet of Renegade. | |
− | + | He refrains from exercising the use of ninjutsu when working with others, in some respects due to his secretive nature but more importantly the potential ramifications to the party’s cohesion, adding weight to the phrase, “Ninjas work alone.” | |

+ | When Garlemald came to Yanxia, they once more turned to proven strategy and relied upon the supremacy of their airships to achieve a swift and decisive victory. Rather than reinforcing their castles and strongholds, however, Kaien concentrated his forces along the Dairyu Moon Gates, and from their towering walls the Domans utilised a combination of geomancy and ninjutsu to disrupt the aetherial currents and send imperial airships crashing to the earth. Those who attempted to secure a foothold by land were met with fierce resistance from a people united, as well as - if the tales are to be believed - guardian spirits known as auspices. | ||
+ | |||
+ | Yet even this most spirited defence could not hope to prevail against the full might of Garlemald. Despite repelling the first wave, the Empire simply redoubled its efforts. More and more airships were despatched to Yanxia, some even towing floating islands from Dalmasca which had been repurposed as aerial fortresses. Castrum Fluminis was built overnight in an attempt to secure a foothold in the region, and from there the imperial mounted a renewed assault by land and air to force Doma into submission. - ''Encyclopedia Eorzea vol. + | Malcom van Adrastus, ''The Inescapable'', Legatus of the Vth legion, holds an emergency meeting with his inner circle on how to best proceed... | ||
+ | |||
+ | “Lord Adrastus, despite this recent setback I retain the utmost confidence that a second aerial offensive is our best option.” professed Ignatius sas Corvina. A Tribunus Angusticlavius of dark features, pale skin, and a rather protrusive nose. “The enemy remains within these so-called Moon Gates, and our experts on the Othardian arts are certain the resources required for such further sorcery are now unequivocally expunged.” | ||
+ | |||
+ | “Your ''utmost'' confidence, Corvina? It seems an aerial invasion is your solution to everything,” said Adrastus, narrowing his eyes. A much older man, with wavy snow white hair and a short beard. Malcom had been involved with the Eastern campaign since he was a young man and had since risen to the esteemed rank of Legatus. | ||
+ | |||
+ | “Y-Yes, my lord,” said Corvina, his tone with a hint of uncertainty. “We still possess the unrivaled munitions and manpower that will bring a swift and resolute end to this overlong campaign. A fitting epilogue for the decades-long service of Legatus Malcom van Adrastus.” | ||
+ | |||
+ | “Flattery will get you nowhere, I have a habit of ignoring those who kiss the rear of their superiors.” scolded the Legatus before turning to his assembled officers, “If there are any more suggestions, please step forward.” | ||
+ | |||
+ | Corvina scrunched his face as a young officer approached the table, offering a salute. The man was tall, with short blonde hair and a forehead gem to match. His eyes however, were pure ice that if looked into, suggested they concealed a fire beneath. “If I may, my Lord? I am Atticus rem Ferrum, Primus Pilus.” | ||
+ | |||
+ | The Legatus nodded in acknowledgement, indicating Atticus to continue. | ||
+ | |||
+ | “Without proper support, Tribunus Corvina’s strategy is rife with incompetence and is guaranteed to suffer the same result as the initial invasion. The--” | ||
+ | |||
+ | “Did you pay no heed to ''any'' of my words? My record with aerial assaults is no less than exemplary!” Corvina interjected, before turning to Adrastus, “Have Ferrum removed and court-martialed for impertinence against a superior!” | ||
+ | |||
+ | “Denied,” Adrastus spat back at Corvina before turning back to Atticus, “Please continue.” | ||
+ | |||
+ | “Thank you, my lord.” Atticus nods, and begins his address. “The enemy has sequestered themselves within walls that are over four-hundred fulm in height, and no matter what Corvina’s supposed experts say...” Atticus turns to the man, “...cannot be approached or moreover, crossed without unacceptable losses. Furthermore the only other method is directly upriver which will likely yield the same result. Even if we penetrated their defences, we haven’t the slightest clue of what awaits us within that den of tricksters and sorcerers.” | ||
+ | |||
+ | “So ''what'' do you suggest?” Corvina seethed through clenched teeth. | ||
+ | |||
+ | Atticus smirks, enjoying the free pass to annoy a superior. “My first inclination was simple use of attrition. We bolster our perimeter and simply wait for their provisions to dwindle and their eventual surrender.” | ||
+ | |||
+ | Several of the gathered officers nodded in agreement, the use of attrition was a proven strategy and had been the deciding factor in several historical engagements. However it was often regarded as taboo and a last resort, its use all but confirmed the ineffectiveness of imperial might and magitek. | ||
+ | |||
+ | “But this predicament is not simple,” Atticus continued. “As I stated, this is a den of tricksters and sorcerers of whom firstly, are cornered, and secondly, whose situation is increasingly desperate. I have little doubt they are able to quietly abandon their post without our knowledge. Should the enemy reach this conclusion... ” | ||
+ | |||
+ | “...Then we will be fighting this war for an even further twenty-five years,” Adrastus says, finishing his sentence. “I intend to retire soon so make your point, Atticus.” | ||
+ | |||
+ | “The Fluminis Contingency, my Lord. I propose that you authorise the construction of a castrum in the Glittering Basin.” Atticus stated. | ||
+ | Eccentrism had little place in imperial doctrine and it showed as Adrastus observed the room, now abuzz with the whisperings of the gathered parties. To establish a castrum, the first of its kind on the continent, during the final days of a twenty-five year campaign, and in full view of the enemy? It was unheard of. | ||
+ | |||
+ | “How is a castrum a solution?” Corvina asked cynically, over the cacophony of voices. | ||
+ | |||
+ | “The castrum serves two purposes, it is both our spearhead and a baited trap. We make use of the outlying villages as hard labour and only moderately defend the site,” Atticus announced over the room, quickly silencing the conversation. “Any plans for the enemy to abandon Doma will be stymied as they are honorbound to attempt a rescue of their countrymen. We are utilising a facet of their own culture to their detriment.” | ||
− | + | “Like moths to flame,” pondered Adrastus, stroking his beard. “And no doubt such a rescue effort will be attempted by their clans of trickster shadows. This presents a unique opportunity to draw them out and more easily eliminate them…” | |
+ | The room fell silent as the assembly watched their Legatus. “M-My Lord..?” Corvina asked quietly. | ||
− | + | Adrastus suddenly stands from his seat and dons his headdress, '''"Corvina, have your airships on standby. We proceed with the Fluminis Contingency, I want that castrum constructed post-haste!”''' announced Adrastus, his voice augmented from the internal magitek. '''“Victory be swift!'''” he saluted. | |
− | + | “And inescapable!” the assembly echoed, all returning the salute. The men donned their helmets and hastily exited the room to carry out the order. | |
− | |||
− | + | '''“Ferrum, a moment,”''' Adrastus calls out, beckoning Atticus over. | |
+ | '''“My Lord?”''' the man turns and salutes, his voice also enhanced. | ||
− | + | '''“If this plan is a success and we conquer the Eastern continent as a result, I will see to it that you are immediately promoted to Tribunus Angusticlavius. Your family line is rather promising, so do not fail.”''' | |
− | + | Even with a helmet on, Atticus’ posture reflected his shocked expression. '''“I will not fail, my Lord.”''' | |
+ | '''“Excellent. Dismissed.”''' | ||
− | + | The two men saluted and parted ways. Doma would be forced into imperial submission. | |

+ | After establishing a beachhead on the One River, imperial forces were reinforced by massive airships used to secure floating isles as part of a multi-pronged attack. With the support of the hastily constructed Castrum Fluminis, the Empire was poised to bring the Kingdom of Doma to its knees. At first, Lord Kaien and his vassals were determined to drive the Garleans from their lands, but as the invaders brought their airships and armour to bear and losses mounted, it quickly became clear that the defenders were outmatched. - ''Encyclopedia Eorzea vol. The nature of their personalities would spiral their relationship out of control at times, but they persevered. Leaving their daughter Genevieve with her father, she left for Ishgard in pursuit of some personal matter. He has not heard from his wife since, and her absence is difficult for him to accept. |

When faced with another combat-capable opponent, I will follow the honour system of dice rolling. If faced against a novice, I reserve my right to dictate the outcome of the encounter. I expect a measure of common sense during fights, so any "special moves" or limit break abilities are at a GM's discretion, used sparingly to avoid depreciation, and only if they fit the situation. In terms of power they are scaled to be believable e.g. Anaguma's signature ''Rokudo Kihakudan'' will not blow through a blast door made of cermet, try as he might. |

PRONOUNCIATION: [ɑ:nɑ:gʊmɑ:] [kenesɑ:]

AGE: Mid-twenties
HEIGHT: Five fulm and seven ilm
BUILD: Athletic
NAMEDATE: 15th Sun of the 2nd Astral Moon, 1553 (Mar 15)
PATRON DEITY: Llymlaen, the Navigator
EPITHET: Anaguma the Renegade
TITLES: Master Ferrum, aan, Lord of the Kenesa Clan
BIRTHPLACE: Aboard a vessel on the Rhotano Sea

Anaguma's face is not inspired by any particular person, the adjacent image was created with the tools available at https://artbreeder.com/ using in-game screenshots as reference materiel. Notably, his natural facial expression implies a look of disapproval, intentional or unintentional, i.e. glaring.
He shares his voice claim with Ardbert, who is voiced by Joe Dempsie. Despite having an identical voice, the difference between them lie with their speech patterns; Anaguma speaks with a grungier Limsa Lominsan dialect and has developed a habitual tenancy of speaking in slang and using improper derivatives. 5.0 SPOILER : Anaguma speaks.
Examples of dialogue:
- "The light of the fire could be seen for miles."
- "Ye can spy the glimmer o' glymmer fer malms."
- "No, there isn't a difference between the two earrings."
- "Nay, 'tisn't a differential betwixt either o' the lobe latches."
In the years preceding the Seventh Umbral Calamity, there existed a gang of male youths in Limsa Lominsa called the Red Colts. Their reputation surmounted to little more than petty thievery and misdemeanours, but the gang was known to other Limsans by their marked faces; a personalisation tattooed in red ink. Anaguma's mark is an ornate dagger and similar in design to his misericordes, the Red Mercies. Most of the gang perished during the Seventh Umbral Calamity, swept away by a great tidal wave. They are survived by their last two members; Anaguma and his friend, Sylbswerd Lydirgybal.
As the illegitimate son of Tribunus Angusticlavius Atticus sas Ferrum, Anaguma has inherited some of his family's most notable traits.
- Crystal blue eyes that reflect Garlemald's landscape. A cold, hard stare that hides a fire beneath.
- Wisps of bright blonde that peek through the surface of his thick, Eastern brown hair.
- A voice, when needed, that is capable of projecting at a volume ill-fitting of the typical Midlander.
- Gil and anything valuable.
- Ocean fishing.
- Peace and quiet.
- Rum.
- Any form of pushback on his actions or words.
- Freshwater fishing.
- Free companies.
- Qiqirn and/or other rodents.
- Very independent in most situations.
- Fight or flight, he does both well.
- Clever and resourceful, yet rather unorthodox.
- Generally dismissive around unfamiliar people.
- Often too proud to accept help.
- Unwilling to try new things, he's a creature of habit.
- Losing his family and his home.
- An imperial resurgence into Eorzea.
- Fatally underestimating an opponent.
- Anaguma is fluent in Thieves' Cant and incorporates it into his regular speech, in addition to completely fabricating his own language.
- When heavily intoxicated and Tempest Fey is present, Anaguma will put "the moves" on her as if they've never met before.
- His ninjutsu, for reasons unknown, emits a petrichor odour. The immediate area will briefly smell like it had just rained.

As per the "hide in plain sight" message in his clan tenets, Anaguma will not defer to the shinobi arts in combat unless pushed. He instead approaches his opposition with a more "rough and tumble" attitude, at least initially.
He wields his Red Mercies, a special commission of Naldiq & Vymelli's Misericordes (the Ishgardian word meaning "mercy"), in which he has aptly named. - Encyclopedia Eorzea II, pg. 199
Anaguma is a Jōnin (lit.
He refrains from exercising the use of ninjutsu when working with others, in some respects due to his secretive nature but more importantly the potential ramifications to the party’s cohesion, adding weight to the phrase, “Ninjas work alone.”
Anaguma will be found to have some, or all of the following items on his person... |

The Kenesa Clan's history is entirely encompassed within the days before the events of The Battle of Ghimlyt Dark. Anaguma, wounded from an encounter in Ala Mhigo, took shelter within the now ruined Specula Imperatoris to lick his wounds, hidden from the Eorzean Alliance as their supply lines mobilised towards Ghimlyt. Come nightfall and with only a small campfire as company, Anaguma properly acknowledged that his actions had finally reflected his ancestry. The Kenesa Clan began that very night for him and his family, a Ke character scratched onto the metal wall of facility.
The Kenesa Clan is very atypical from what is expected of a standard shinobi clan, namely the absence of a traditional regime. Its motivations lie in acknowledging how other clans operate, but only applying their methods in a complementary manner. The result is an informal clan that, by instinct, only seeks to serves its own interests.
Unlike those more notable groups such as the Fuma, Iga, or Nagae clans, the Kenesa Clan does not adopt an official uniform for itself. Instead the clan embraces its grassroots origins by making do with one's current possessions. So whether it be cloth, leather, or even plated armour, a member of the clan simply pins their clan sigil to their current wear.
The Kenesa Clan adopts the Ke character of the Doman alphabet. It's often interpreted that the character symbolises a master and student, or given the clan's nature as family orientated, a parent and child. The four red markings flickering around the border represent the clan's four tenets, their use of red adornments, and their four signature ninjutsu.
- Hide in plain sight. "Dancin' the ol' Shadow Jig's best done without an audience, 'cos the stabbers'll come out after the clappin' stops."
- Conceal your intentions. "Unless they're honest gentlemen, either shut yer' trap or start talkin' gibberish quicksmart."
- Trust your instincts. "All that sick sloshin' around yer' gut's actually a blessin' in disguise. Or ya ate somethin' queer, I don't bloody know."
- Strike the shepherd. "Havin' a nice chat with a racket's top boss usually makes 'is gulls scatter...err, emphasis on usually."
- Anaguma Kenesa, First Lord
- Tempest Fey
- Genevieve Kenesa
The Kenesa Clan has developed its own advanced ninjutsu, in addition to the six elemental ~ton (lit. Release) techniques... |

Rokudo Kihakudan (lit. Six Way Spirit Bullet)
A red sphere of unaspected aether, similar in form and function to both a Rasengan and Spirit Ball. Kage Sanmiittaiken (lit. Shadow Trinity Fist)
An iteration of a Bunshin technique. The user summons (generally two) shadow clones to aid them. Mizugumo Dōsa (lit. Water Spider Movements)
Inspired from the Mizugumo. Anaguma can quickly stride across bodies of water as if they were solid ground, like a water spider. |
Note: Anaguma's story is a smaller, unintrusive story that ties in, and references the larger events of the Final Fantasy XIV canon.

Final Fantasy XIV Lore (Canon)
When Garlemald came to Yanxia, they once more turned to proven strategy and relied upon the supremacy of their airships to achieve a swift and decisive victory. Yet even this most spirited defence could not hope to prevail against the full might of Garlemald. - Encyclopedia Eorzea vol. II
Character Backstory (Headcanon)
Malcom van Adrastus, The Inescapable, Legatus of the Vth legion, holds an emergency meeting with his inner circle on how to best proceed... “Lord Adrastus, despite this recent setback I retain the utmost confidence that a second aerial offensive is our best option.” professed Ignatius sas Corvina. A Tribunus Angusticlavius of dark features, pale skin, and a rather protrusive nose. “The enemy remains within these so-called Moon Gates, and our experts on the Othardian arts are certain the resources required for such further sorcery are now unequivocally expunged.” “Your utmost confidence, Corvina? It seems an aerial invasion is your solution to everything,” said Adrastus, narrowing his eyes. A much older man, with wavy snow white hair and a short beard. Malcom had been involved with the Eastern campaign since he was a young man and had since risen to the esteemed rank of Legatus. “Y-Yes, my lord,” said Corvina, his tone with a hint of uncertainty. “We still possess the unrivaled munitions and manpower that will bring a swift and resolute end to this overlong campaign. A fitting epilogue for the decades-long service of Legatus Malcom van Adrastus.” “Flattery will get you nowhere, I have a habit of ignoring those who kiss the rear of their superiors.” scolded the Legatus before turning to his assembled officers, “If there are any more suggestions, please step forward.” Corvina scrunched his face as a young officer approached the table, offering a salute. The man was tall, with short blonde hair and a forehead gem to match. His eyes however, were pure ice that if looked into, suggested they concealed a fire beneath. “If I may, my Lord? I am Atticus rem Ferrum, Primus Pilus.” The Legatus nodded in acknowledgement, indicating Atticus to continue. “Without proper support, Tribunus Corvina’s strategy is rife with incompetence and is guaranteed to suffer the same result as the initial invasion. The--” “Did you pay no heed to any of my words? My record with aerial assaults is no less than exemplary!” Corvina interjected, before turning to Adrastus, “Have Ferrum removed and court-martialed for impertinence against a superior!” “Denied,” Adrastus spat back at Corvina before turning back to Atticus, “Please continue.” “Thank you, my lord.” Atticus nods, and begins his address. Even if we penetrated their defences, we haven’t the slightest clue of what awaits us within that den of tricksters and sorcerers.” “So what do you suggest?” Corvina seethed through clenched teeth. Atticus smirks, enjoying the free pass to annoy a superior. “My first inclination was simple use of attrition. We bolster our perimeter and simply wait for their provisions to dwindle and their eventual surrender.” Several of the gathered officers nodded in agreement, the use of attrition was a proven strategy and had been the deciding factor in several historical engagements. However it was often regarded as taboo and a last resort, its use all but confirmed the ineffectiveness of imperial might and magitek. “But this predicament is not simple,” Atticus continued. “As I stated, this is a den of tricksters and sorcerers of whom firstly, are cornered, and secondly, whose situation is increasingly desperate. I have little doubt they are able to quietly abandon their post without our knowledge. Should the enemy reach this conclusion... ” “...Then we will be fighting this war for an even further twenty-five years,” Adrastus says, finishing his sentence. “I intend to retire soon so make your point, Atticus.” “The Fluminis Contingency, my Lord. I propose that you authorise the construction of a castrum in the Glittering Basin.” Atticus stated. Eccentrism had little place in imperial doctrine and it showed as Adrastus observed the room, now abuzz with the whisperings of the gathered parties. To establish a castrum, the first of its kind on the continent, during the final days of a twenty-five year campaign, and in full view of the enemy? It was unheard of. “How is a castrum a solution?” Corvina asked cynically, over the cacophony of voices. “The castrum serves two purposes, it is both our spearhead and a baited trap. We make use of the outlying villages as hard labour and only moderately defend the site,” Atticus announced over the room, quickly silencing the conversation. “Any plans for the enemy to abandon Doma will be stymied as they are honorbound to attempt a rescue of their countrymen. We are utilising a facet of their own culture to their detriment.” “Like moths to flame,” pondered Adrastus, stroking his beard. “And no doubt such a rescue effort will be attempted by their clans of trickster shadows. This presents a unique opportunity to draw them out and more easily eliminate them…” The room fell silent as the assembly watched their Legatus. “M-My Lord..?” Corvina asked quietly. Adrastus suddenly stands from his seat and dons his headdress, "Corvina, have your airships on standby. We proceed with the Fluminis Contingency, I want that castrum constructed post-haste!” announced Adrastus, his voice augmented from the internal magitek. “Victory be swift!” he saluted. “And inescapable!” the assembly echoed, all returning the salute. The men donned their helmets and hastily exited the room to carry out the order. “Ferrum, a moment,” Adrastus calls out, beckoning Atticus over. “My Lord?” the man turns and salutes, his voice also enhanced. “If this plan is a success and we conquer the Eastern continent as a result, I will see to it that you are immediately promoted to Tribunus Angusticlavius. Your family line is rather promising, so do not fail.” Even with a helmet on, Atticus’ posture reflected his shocked expression. “I will not fail, my Lord.” “Excellent. Dismissed.” The two men saluted and parted ways. Doma would be forced into imperial submission.

Final Fantasy XIV Lore (Canon)
After establishing a beachhead on the One River, imperial forces were reinforced by massive airships used to secure floating isles as part of a multi-pronged attack. - Encyclopedia Eorzea vol. Theresa Kenesa, The White Witch. ⚭ ♥ ●
|
---|
Theresa "Tempest" Marie Kells is quite literally an otherworldly woman and an unlikely spouse for Anaguma, utterly despising her at one point. The nature of their personalities would spiral their relationship out of control at times, but they persevered. Leaving their daughter Genevieve with her father, she left for Ishgard in pursuit of some personal matter. He has not heard from his wife since, and her absence is difficult for him to accept. |
Aurelia quo Ferrum, Half Sister. ⚔ ●
|
---|
The only legitimate child of Atticus and the commanding officer of her family's private "military". Having only met her younger brother once, she feels incredibly slighted that her father seems to favour a scornful, wayward, illegitimate, improperly-speaking bastard child rather than his own daughter. |
NPC: Genevieve Ephiny Kenesa, Little Starling. ♡ ●
|
---|
"Evey" is the daughter of Anaguma and Theresa, inheriting her father's crystal blue eyes, and her mother's bright blonde hair. The nature of her birth hints she may be gifted, though Anaguma's priority is to raise her as a normal child. She is too young to understand, but her father does everything he can to ensure she never feels neglected, as he once was. |
NPC: Atticus sas Ferrum, Father. ⚔ ●
|
---|
The head of House Ferrum in Garlemald and Anaguma's biological father, his attempts to build rapport with his illegitimate son have been rarely successful. Past rumours in Garlemald's political scene whisper of several other illegitimate children during the Invasion of Doma, however this is hastily dismissed as slander and no such records exist. |

I am very strict on established lore, but if there are grey areas or plausible scenarios I encourage your own head canon. Characters need to feel like they belong in the world together, and so I believe the established canon is what binds our characters together more than roleplay itself. My knowledge on canon isn't perfect, and I'm happy to correct and be corrected.
My characters can fight and do so expertly in their respective disciplines. Anaguma's signature Rokudo Kihakudan will not blow through a blast door made of cermet, try as he might.
I'm good for most dark themes, and I rarely take offense to anything. But I ask that we discuss the following if a scenario were to present them.
