Gender ♀ Race Au Ra Clan Raen Citizenship Doman/Limsa Lominsan Age 19 Occupation Assessor at Mealvaan's Gate Alignment Chaotic Good; Balance-seeking MBTI ENFP Patron Deity Llymlaen, the Navigator GENERAL INFORMATION Rin Chiura 知浦 (Pronunciation: chee-uu-ṙah), A girl born on the sea, and never happier than when surrounded by clear skies above and crashing waves below. And born with the desperate need to know everything. Rin is endlessly curious and exasperatingly nosy, scatterbrained but good-hearted. Just don't make her angry because she might channel that inquisitive energy into something destructive. Currently working as an Assessor at the Arcanist's guild in Limsa. Although most of her days are spent doing routine inspections and paperwork, her unassuming appearance and knack at reading people have made her a surprisingly effective field agent - tracking runners down and going undercover to infiltrate the occasional smuggling ring are all in a day's work. APPEARANCE Tan skin, faint freckles and brown hair; she considers herself pretty plain for the most part. Look past the carefree demeanor and you might notice her eyes constantly evaluating her surroundings. Taller than most Au Ran women her age (to her 4'9" mother's anguish). She likes to dress in soft, pastel colors, but loves the solid lines of jet black dyes as well. Rin is almost always seen smiling in amusement at some private joke (if not outright bursting into uncontrollable laughter). But lately she's been more withdrawn and pensive. She also looks surprisingly sleep-deprived for someone who is constantly professing her great love for naps. People close to her might detect a hint of worry beneath the laidback attitude, and they wouldn't be wrong. You can't be that hyper-aware of everyone around you without being a little paranoid as well... PERSONALITY Cheerful. Perceptive. Determined. On the surface you couldn't find a more relaxed and happy-go-lucky soul, but sometimes she wonders if keeping up that act is starting to wear on her. Although she's flighty about most things that catch her interest, when Rin truly sets her eye on a goal she will obsessively pursue it. She has a strong conviction in justice - finding the truth, protecting the powerless, and other admittedly romantic notions. As the only daughter of two ex-mercenaries, it was with a mix of perplexity and bemused acceptance that her parents realized their child was more inclined to math and books than axes and fists. Although they were a bit sad to find out she was pathetically uncoordinated in every shape or fashion, they still loved her in their boisterous and embarrassingly loud ways. Living a life of travel on the trade routes between the Othardian islands and Vylbrand was almost enough to satisfy Rin's curiosity, but not quite. The more off-limits something seemed, the more she wanted to know about it; a harmless demeanour and a blithe smile came in handy for going unnoticed - or mostly just underestimated. Strangely enough, Rin shines in moments of chaos and uncertainty. She'll avoid responsibility like the plague, but if no one else will take the lead then she'll step up and do what needs to be done. Honestly, it's hard to tell when she's truly having a clueless moment or if it's part of the act. Deep down she's a budding leader and a cool head in a crisis - it's just that the guilt that comes with making the wrong decisions is crippling. Rin tries to fly under the radar with her childish facade, so her tactical smarts come as a surprise to most. For now she's keeping it that way. She's seen what a military life has done to people she loves. LIKES Exploring. When a trail of cargo inevitably leads her to Ul'dah at some point, her guild-mates know she'll be returning days late because there's just so much she hasn't seen yet and yes that detour through Hamon Holyfist's favorite bar was completely necessary. Books. She's always got one, or two, or maybe five on her person at all times. Heights. Rin grew up in a tiny island village off the Othardian coast, where you could see everything and know everyone. Her favorite spots to be are somewhere with a great vantage point where she can keep an eye on everything around her. People. While she would need more than a lifetime to research every topic that catches her fancy, Rin is foremost fascinated by people. People are the one puzzle that she can never quite solve, but that won't stop her from trying. Chess. Her favorite game to play with her father, who picked it up while wandering Thanalan as a mercenary. If only there were more betting rings for strategic board games in Eorzea, she'd be making a killing off her airheaded reputation. DISLIKES Ignorance. Rin often clashes with the mindset in Gridania and Ishgard, whose xenophobia is understandable yet utterly strange to her worldview. Although she greatly admires Merlwyb's confidence as a leader, she strongly disagrees with her ruthless stance on the beastmen tribes. Feeling restless. She's constantly looking for the next obsession to carry her away because sometimes, stopping too long to confront her doubts and fears can throw her into a state of existential crises. Crafting. Still recovering from a brief but tumultuous crafting addiction. She insisted on learning every single trade simultaneously. Needless to say her physical scars have stories that are more embarrassing than impressive. Being controlled. She has no problem following orders from someone she trusts, but she absolutely cannot stand people enforcing their will on others. Blind obedience. All leaders are fallible. Everyone has a choice to do what's right. Rin won't hesitate to question those in power and won't accept "just following orders" as a defense, ever. STRENGTHS Languages. Actually, no one is sure if she's truly understanding what those people at the Rogue's guild are saying, but it seems less likely that she can fake it that well. Math. Rin's talent at arcanism probably has something to do with learning to read navigational charts and balancing books on a merchant ship while growing up. Creativity. To the dismay of her mentors, Rin doesn't have the attention span to do more than skim the fundamentals. For better or worse, her spells and tactics are always a bit unusual, with the air of someone who's just winging it as they go along. Then again, the results don't lie, right? Reading people. Useful for catching liars, but also for judging the strengths, weaknesses, fears, and desires of her friends. Recognizing this is her main strength as a leader. A deceptively strong throwing arm. Tease her enough and you'll find that she'll throw all her magical knowledge out the window and resort to hurling the nearest object at you instead. WEAKNESSES Flippant. Rin's first reaction to conflict is to diffuse it with a joke, and Serious Moments make her feel extremely uncomfortable. She struggles to speak genuinely - or acknowledge that maybe things aren't as OK as they seem. She loves to tease, but sometimes she goes too far. No sense of direction. Yeah, those days spent "exploring" Ul'dah are her usual cover for the fact that she couldn't figure out where the exit was. Enclosed spaces. Her greatest fear, by far. Being trapped and feeling claustrophobic is the one thing that makes her truly panic. Self-doubt. She's as relaxed as can be, but only because she actively avoids things that put her confidence into question. She's terrified of making costly mistakes, and has a massive guilt complex - she'll stay up for nights thinking about what she should've done differently. Distant. Rin is the type to be able to befriend everyone, but gets close to barely anyone. She has plenty of acquaintances but struggles to open up to them. Stubborn. If she's feeling even slightly bossed around or taken for granted, Rin won't budge even if it makes her life harder.
