GENERAL INFORMATION

Suren Betano is the dignified and renowned Captain of the mercenary vessel, the Betano, which currently serves as an escort to high-value cargo ships. In between missions, he is often chasing leads on treasure or other work.

APPEARANCE

Suren values dignity, and his appearance reflects it. His hair is neatly trimmed and kept functional above all else, and his stance is usually upright, posture perfected. He is a tall man, rising above his peers, filled out with muscle gained from his grueling work. His skin is extremely pale - almost a ghostly white, with his eyes matching, albeit with a bit more of a paleish blue undertone. His features are sharp - a pointed chin, focused eyes, and well-maintained horns. He often wears functional leathers with multiple layers when out in the field, keeping himself covered and warm for the freezing skies. When by his lonesome, or in casual settings, he'll usually keep it casual with a simple plain shirt and a silken pair of pants. He is usually armed no matter the circumstance - either a gun on his back or a knife in the boot, he's a man that remains prepared.

PERSONALITY

Dignified. Suren is not afraid to speak when necessary, but will often refrain from doing so unless there's anything meaningful to communicate. He's a man dedicated to his job, with an intimidating presence. Appearances, however, are deceiving - those in his charge often speak highly of his fairness and experience. Even if he's not keen on smiling, he is by no means rude - and only rarely condescending. Often, he might seem adrift, as if thinking... or reflecting.

LIKES Firearms. Suren has amassed a collection of firearms over his many summers. Smoking Herbs. As was tradition with his tribe, Suren values the healing properties of smoking herbs, and often uses them to unwind. Expanding his Horizons. Suren is always keen on developing his usefulness by expanding his knowledge. The Sky. Suren is not afraid of heights by any means - he adores them, and is secretly fond of cloudwatching. His Crew. Suren is proud of those in his charge. He'll not feed their egos, but he's not afraid to boast about them to others. Work. Nothing beats the jingle of coin in your pocket from a job well done.

DISLIKES Garlemald. Sentiments likely shared by all of Eorzea at this point, he's certain. Loud words with little meaning. Any who raise their voice to him might see a rare anger begin to show. Speak calm, speak firm, make your point. Selfish Pride. One may think highly of their abilities, but to deny assistance to others makes them - and you - utterly useless. Foolish Martyrs. Stick with your team. Rushing ahead of them does not make you a hero, it makes you a traitor. The Borlaaq Tribe. For reasons one can probably guess.

STRENGTHS Experience. Suren has seen much these past ten summers, and has plenty to owe to it. Strength. Suren excels in combat due to his line of work. Diverse. To manage effectively, Suren maintains a basic understanding of a wide variety of sciences. Opportunist. There is something to be found in loss, always. Magitek. Suren has an understanding of magitek that rivals Garleans themselves. Level Headed. Suren does not lack empathy, but he does not allow emotion to sway him.

WEAKNESSES Overambitious. Despite his best efforts, Suren always tries to approach issues creatively. Sometimes, a bit much so. Overworked. There is a wall of paperwork he imposes on himself to maintain distance from others often. Lack of magical ability. Fancy as Suren's gadgets are, he lacks any ability to harness his aether for personal use. A head in the clouds. Unintentionally at times, Suren might fall victim to viewing other forms of weaponry as primitive, discounting their actual use.

COMBAT & WEAPONRY

Suren's combat style is quick, effective, and rarely needlessly brutal. He does not take pride in violence, nor does he enjoy it. He does what he must do for coin and crew. Both strong and an effective marksman, Suren makes use of gunblades often, but will not turn his nose up to regular swords, daggers, or fists. He is average with all but his trusted blade or a rifle, however. Though both the Betano and Suren's armory are vast, the following weapons are the ones he considers himself most proficient with:

Prototype V-F Dragonsbreath AR This rifle is Suren's magnum opus, and the weapon he has tinkered with for as long as he can remember. A complicated amalgamation of machina, this weapon boasts an experimental automatic firing feature. When activated, some say the muzzle may ignite into flame, taking the shape of a dragon's mouth.

Prototype QCQ Realmshaker Shotgun Pistol This weapon has been in testing for years, and probably is well past 'prototype' phase. This ornate pistol is quite enormous for all but an Auri or a Roegadyn. While capable of firing regular shotgun ammunition, this one is modified to host a special variety of experimental ammo.

The White Lily While not fond of naming weapons, Suren felt obligated to given the sentimental value of this Garlean-crafted gunblade. Once used to cut down his own, he has turned this sword against those who sought to harm his kin.

Type C Remote Operated Multipurpose Autoturret This powerful device was not crafted by Suren's hand. This Skysteel-purchased turret has since been modified by him to serve functions outside of simple firing. It folds inward for handy storage, and he often keeps it on hand.

OPERATIONS LOG

The Betano serves many, and their most notable clients - or operations - follow:

• The 81st's Mhachi Excursion : This unique operation was different than the usual merchant escort. The Betano was tasked with transport of a famous free company, seeing them safe passage to ancient mhachi settlements to aid in their investigation.
• The Doman Rebellion : The Betano served in the rebellion, protecting civilian settlements in the Yanxia prefecture. Many of the crew perished here.

BACKSTORY

Suren was born of the Borlaaq tribe. Abandoned as a result of this, he was taken by the Iriq, but left to seek his own path at a young age, unhappy with the circumstances of his upbringing. He found a new home in Doma, only to have it taken from him by the empire.

During a riot in a small settlement by the Ruby Sea, Suren and a few of his friends found an opportunity to steal a warship out from under the nose of the Garleans. Without a tribe to his name, he took the name of this new vessel - and the rest is simply history.

RECENT HISTORY

Still recovering from the Doman rebellion, Suren is seeking to piece together the remains of his crew.

With little coin to his name, he currently seeks employment on a smaller scale... and on the ground itself.

The Crew, the backbone of the operation. (🔒) Suren’s Thoughts: "They are my reason for existing. I would suffer any pain for them." Suren is loyal to his crew no matter what. He does not view himself as above them, and merely seeks to offer a guiding hand to enact the greatness he sees in each individual. The staggering loss of life in their recent operation pains him to this day.

Slag-Tooth Sibert, the captain draped in red. (👍 Acquaintance) Suren’s Thoughts: "An interesting man, to say the least." Suren remembers this captain from his work with the 81st. Skilled with a gun and with an interesting wit, he considers the man enjoyable to be around, and might even consider him an acquaintance.

Yesugah Goro, the hostess. (🔃 Unsure) Suren’s Thoughts: "...the way she works is captivating." A first impression of a mere smiling face has proven to be highly incorrect. There is skill to her labor he did not respect, and he will learn from it. He wishes to know more about this Xaela - and this former Samurai 'master' of hers.

A'lehsi Tia, the ex-confederate. (🔃 Unsure) Suren’s Thoughts: "His tongue appears to be made of silver. May he be hiding something?" Despite Suren's negative impression of A'lehsi's former 'crew', the man himself appears to be friendly enough - and even reliable on a mission. Perhaps time will tell more about this sailor.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND... I'm sort of busy at times. I work full time and really enjoy other games / PvE. I'm not an extremely dedicated roleplayer, so if you're expecting me at all hours of the day, then you might be best off looking elsewhere. I like crafting stories with people, not nitpickers. Suren might turn some folks off since he's got some fancy toys. If you don't appreciate that, I understand and respect it, but please do not move in to roleplay with me expecting to change things up to your tastes. I am not picky with the characters Suren interacts with, and I expect the same courtesy in return.

GUIDELINES

I'm pretty relaxed on RP topics - I just require some communication before stuff gets dark or risque.:

I WILL NOT... Do anything seriously character-altering without consent. I'll need communication if your character has some odd nuance that will significantly alter them, but past that, my characters will never harm, maim or kill another without permission from you. Permadeath my characters. Please do not ask or try and pressure me. If I have plans for this for my character, I will approach an individual, not the other way around.

I WILL... Darker Themes / Relationships / Smut. I'm not opposed to any of the listed. They're by no means my main focuses, and I do prefer to keep them plot-specific, but I'm not picky at all. I do, however, value a great deal of communication since any of these are highly sensitive for some people. RP Ingame, on Discord, or anywhere else! Just let me know what you prefer, and I'll do my best to make it work for you.
