His very bright ice-blue eyes seem to pierce, mainly as they are in a strong contrast to his dark hair. Physique & Markings He has the physique of an average young man of his race, if anything he is less defined than many of his peers as his figure is a result of a healthy diet and lifestyle instead of much physical labor or training Hygiene & Attire He keeps his body clean, often enjoying long stays in hot baths, ending up thinking more than actually cleaning himself. Van prefers not to use parfumes or scented hygiene products, hence him having a very natural, mild body odor Personality Psychological Profile Van is the average young man from a normal household, a very average and non-spectacular life was meant for him, with his father being a pharmacist. Though quiet, he is not introverted or shy as some people might think, more often than not he is just in thought or daydreaming. However, if you start hitting topics that truly interest him, his bland facade is replaced by a bubbly and talkative Van, one that will hit you with unexpected waves of charisma and warmth. He lives a lawful and moral life and never really gets into trouble by himself. Once he sets a goal for himself he will display a working ethic second to none and sees hardship and rejection only to be another motivation and opportunity instead a failure, which makes up for his mere average talents. Respect to his elders is another value he upholds, even if he does not always agree with them. His form of rebellion is not throwing a fit or start a fight but rather surprising his elders with results they would not have deemed possible or within his range. To reach that goal, spite being also a driving factor, he would not rarely give up on sleep or nutrition to make room for work. Which also results in him sometimes being reckless with himself or neglect his social duties and contacts, but those who know the true Van, know they can count on him in crucial moments. Voice His voice is pleasantly smooth and has a deep warmth to it that invites people to chat and discuss, though if he loses it to a hilarious situation or joke, it sometimes breaks into hysterical tones. Philosophy & Mannerisms As aforementioned, he firmly and wholeheartedly believes that anyone can achieve greatness and their goal with enough hard work, even if those have been rather unfortunate with natural talents and assets. While everyone who he has ever worked with or for knows his exceptional work ethic and him being very confident in it as well, he does not boast with it and generally prefers to let actions and results speak for themselves. His biggest drive and interest is the sky, cosmos, and anything related to it and all of his hard work eventually is supposed to bring him another step closer to fully understand their secrets. He is very mild mannered and respectful towards his elders, with peers on the other hand he can be a typical schoolboy and reveal himself to be a lighthearted dork, not afraid to be blunt and teasing. In 0-distance/direct impact, it can inflict serious damage to tissue, causing burns. ● Electrocut: With direct skin contact, Van is able to shock his enemy by releasing a small spark into their body, distracting and stunning them for a brief moment. Effectiveness reduces with repeated use. No effect if no direct contact. ● Basic Thaumaturge abilities OOC Note At this stage of Van's character development he is barely a threat to anyone with any combat experience. He will not engage in fights himself as well and only fights if forced. Combat skills and magical capacity will increase as his development progresses.

Sixth Astral Era Childhood Born to a Seeker of the sun, his life would have ended only few hours later, if it wasn't for a middle-aged couple that found the newborn Van next to his deceased mother in the Thanalan savanna, while on a morning stroll during their vacation. Shocked by the discovery they made, Coenrad and Chen Zao decided to take the newborn with them to Ul'dah, thus adopting him. Van grew up in a loving and peaceful environment, secured by his parents stable income in a wealthy town. From there on he lead the textbook life of the upper middle class; Playing on the streets with both his peers from school and the refugee kids he made some good friends. After going down the usual path of school, he has gotten into an Alchemy apprenticeship, thanks to connections of his father, a former Alchemist that worked solely medicine and had good connections to the Gridanian Conjurer guild as well. Seventh Umbral Era Adulthood After seeing Dalamud fall from the skies and the meteor raining down on the battlefield from afar, his interest in the sky and stars has ignited. Both fascinated and terrified Van watched the cruel destruction mow down the surface of the earth. He realized that there is much more to life and existence than just the earth he walks on, and from there on he started to see the sky in a new light, a new beauty but also with a new desire for knowledge. After proposing his new interest to his parents he's been told that such desire is foolish and magic of this kind, referring to the devastating Meteor spell, is a horrible thing. They want a safe and secure life for him. If he truly wanted to get on the path of magic, he could join the Conjurer guild, his father suggested. As Conjuring focuses on the earth and the surrounding elements, it was the exact opposite of what he wants to do. Despite their vocal disapproval, his parents accepted his choice to try his luck with the local Thaumaturge guild after they noticed his stubbornness regarding this topic. In Recent Times Moving Forward Now Van tries to get accepted into the Thaumaturge guild in Ul'dah. He heard rumors that only the more talented magicians get accepted and he knows he has not the biggest capacity in that matter. Though he will try his luck anyway and hopefully get a step closer to his dream of the stars.
