GENERAL INFORMATION

The Crimson Coeurl is a Maelstrom-type full-rigged ship dedicated to seeking out and attacking Imperial ships in order to disrupt supply lines. Our crew naturally plunders whatever wares their ship has onboard, and will usually capture enemy crew in order to bring them back to the Maelstrom for interrogation and imprisonment. The remaining Imperial ship will then be scuppered so that it never finds its way back to the Imperial fleet. Crew members of the Crimson Coeurl receive a percentage of the loot based on whatever job they enlisted to do.

So you want to be a pirate? We are almost always recruiting and looking for new sailors. The best way to join us is to track either the captain or the quartermaster in game. Currently the captain is Mormegil Fea'noro, and the quartermaster is Asunasari Volsani. We look forward to hearing from you!

TERMINOLOGY

DUTIES

Captain: The captain is expected to be bold and decisive in battle as well as be skilled in navigation and seamanship. Above all they have to have the force of personality necessary to hold together such an unruly bunch of seamen. The general rule is that during times of battle, the captain retains unlimited authority.

Quartermaster: Almost the captain's equal, the quartermaster takes over general rule of the ship when not engaged in battle. It is the quartermaster's duty to represent the crews interest. The quartermaster must also protect maintain order, settle quarrels, and distribute food and other essentials. The quartermaster has the authority to punish for minor offenses, and keeps the records and account books.

Sailing Master: This officer is in charge of navigation and the sailing of the ship. The Sailing Master directs the course and looks after the maps and instruments necessary for navigation.

Boatswain: The Boatswain supervises the maintenance of the vessel and its supply stores. This officer is responsible for inspecting the ship and it's sails and rigging each morning, and reporting their state to the Captain. The Boatswain is also in charge of all deck activities, including weighing and dropping the anchor, and the handling of the sails.

First Mate: The First Mate on our ship essentially serves as the Captain's assistant. The First Mate must be observant and read the morale of the crew, and report anything of importance to the Captain.

Carpenter: The Carpenter is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the wooden hull, masts and yards. Other duties include checking the hull regularly, placing oakum between seams of the planks and wooden plugs on leaks to keep the vessel tight.

Master Gunner: The Master Gunner is responsible for the ship's guns and ammunition. This includes sifting the powder to keep it dry, prevent it from separating, and insuring the cannons and ordnance are kept free of rust, and that all weapons are kept in good repair.

Gunner: The Gunners serve under the guidance of the Master Gunner, and are responsible for arming and firing the cannons during an engagement with another vessel. They also help the Master Gunner in his or her duties.

Galley Master: The Galley Master serves in the galley and is responsible for cooking food for the entire crew! Seems like a simple duty, but is nonetheless very important.

Airship Captain: Not all ships have an airship, but those that do use their airships for scouting and reconnaissance. The airship serves as a heightened crow's nest, capable of flying to extreme heights in order to track down enemy ships far away. The Airship Captain is responsible for maintenance, repairing, and the flying of the airship.

Able Bodied Sailors: The common sailor and the backbone of the ship. They need to know the rigging of the sails, as well as how to steer the ship and simple navigation. Sailors are expected to read the skies, weather, winds, and the general mood and morale of the crew.

SHIP DIRECTIONS

Bow: The front of the ship.

Port: The left side of the ship.

Starboard: The right side of the ship.

Stern: The back of the ship.
