He admits to this truth as a means to “hide in plain sight.” If he is to maintain the trust of his new associates, it is better that they know the truth of his origins. Were he to keep this hidden, and the truth be revealed later, such trust may be harder to repair, at beat.  At worst, it would mean his life meeting the pointy end of a stabber.
