Alothia Starkwood History/Timeline 6th Astral Era Life Before Eorzea Raphael Rosch, a young Miqo'te lad, was born to Perry and A'lya Rosch, engineers both, in Bozja Citadel, in the heart of the Empire. Growing up for a short time in Bozja, Perry and A'lya realize that the heart of the Empire's military machine is no place to raise a child; and send him off to Doma to live with Perry's father and his Auri wife. Raphael starts displaying small white scales on various parts of his body, owing to the Miqo'te's Raen blood. Raphael grows up in the city of Doma, off of the Imperial military base. He recieves a Doman education; despite the Empire's changes to the curriculum. Quickly, his aptitude for magitek is noticed by the Empire; and an order for his drafting into the XIVth's Engineering Corps is put out, once he came of age. Raphael meets Kagiya no Noriko, the daughter of the Tamaya clan's rivals. The two both show an aptitude for making wonderful hanabi displays; a talent fostered by both of their families. Despite the Empire's call for Raphael's drafting, the two carry on, intending to become the new masters of their respective families. At this time, Raphael begins suffering from a mild depression; beginning to fail in his classes. He begins spending more and more time with Noriko, until the two are entirely inseparable. He goes to his grandmother with Noriko, explaining his desire to be "more like her"; which is to say, female. Raphael's grandmother ends up bestowing the name "Tamaya no Rio" upon her; and asks if she'd commit fully to becoming a woman. Rio agrees. Rio's grandmother procures an old folk remedy from a now forgotten Xaela tribe in the Azim Steppe; meant to feminize males from that tribe so they could not challenge the Khan. This folk remedy works like a charm on Rio, and she begins her transition. A few years later, despite her change in appearance, Rio is inducted into the XIVth legion and is sent to Ala Mhigo as Raphael. She takes the recipe and a stock of the remedy with her. Assault and Corvus Rio is assigned to the Reaper Corps., charged with protecting the city from external and internal threats on the back of a bipedal warmachine that she'd use her engineering skills to maintain. She excels in both aspects of her post, despite the ridicule of her fellows. Eventually, her skill in maintaining and upgrading her Reaper caused her to be taken more and more off the front lines to help with equipment repair around the city. However, during a Resistance assault on the wall, Rio was called to be part of the Reaper-led charge into the enemy ranks. She and a few other pilots descend into the Resistance lines, wreaking mechanized havoc until she found herself separated from the group. Her machine finally fell to the swords and arrows of the Ala Mhigans and she was forced to crawl away and hide, abandoned outside the wall. Slowly, carefully, Rio makes her way towards Ul'dah, cooking up a story about her being the adopted daughter of a local gambler. She sees a flier for work in an organization named "Corvus Cinis". Feeling hope in the Garlean-inspired name of the group; she joined, claiming she was a treasure hunter. Her first job with Corvus ends up being a request from one Dyne Evans to find his sister, Miyu. The group tracks her down to Hyrstmill, where they find a dead Dyne, murdered by the hand of his own sister's magic. The group engages her in combat; and loses to her overwhelming magic might. The group retreats to call reinforcements from the militaristic Eorzean Guard, and Miyu was captured. Rio hears that another Garlean was part of her group, and reveals herself to [Zenge Eien], the Garlean in question. She begins inventing gadgets and weapons for Corvus Cinis to use. She and Zenge also formally enter the Eorzean Guard, with Rio being assigned to the 1st Division. It's here that she meets the women she'd come to consider her sisters later on. (Aylis Tessier, Almaz Khaltamze, Mhrii Pericamberih) Miyu, through her trial, is revealed to be not guilty of her murderous actions. A separate personality named "Miunih" turns out to be at fault. Unlike Miyu, who was shy and mostly harmless, Miunih was a cold-blooded killer who enjoyed the acts she'd committed. Corvus takes responsibility for Miyu; taking the poor girl under their wing. Rio ends up falling for the ice mage, and the two begin dating after an enlightening session of truth or dare at the Mineral Concern. Music Text, text, text, text.
