General Information
An academic on the surface, serious and cold, Joyous Blossom is a woman dedicated to unlocking the secrets of eld, particularly in the field of Nymian Tactics. She as a Scholar by trade, having all but mastered the Nymian manner of combat, and is a proud Sharlayan, even boasting their fabled Lithovivimancy magicks which turn ordinary objects to life...for a brief period of time.

In spite of her rather scholarly nature however, Blossom can be easily put into a foul mood, making her go from a cool zero, to a blazing one-hundred in a mere instant. She relishes in tricking her opponents and making the foolish look even moreso while scrapping with them, using her environment and knowledge of magicks to her utmost advantage. Going as far as death threats, goading, low blows, and outright trash talk, riled up Joyous is nearly a completely different person than the usual steadfast and calm face she puts on in normal conversation, doing this on purpose to fool outsiders looking in.

Hair & Eyes
Though it's not entirely sure which side of her true family she acquired them from, Joyous's eyes are a magnificent shade of blue-green. They are far from perfect however, as she requires reading glasses in order to scour over her books, and her vision close up is rather poor. They seem to change color ever-so-slightly, depending on the light of the area around her.
Joyous's hair, on the other hand, is directly attributed to her father, a man whom she apparently has a very poor relationship with. Stating that she dyes her hair on purpose, it's not entirely known what hue it actually is only that, apparently, she loathes it. It has been kept in a short cut, the woman stating she loathes her hair being in her face, and has colored it black with blonde streaks for as long as she's been in Eorzea, records show.
Physique & Markings
Like many of her kind, Joyous is notably tall and while thicker in muscle than most other races, but is surprisingly lacking in physical strength. She is curvy, with more an hourglass figure than the bulk of her kin, with accentuation on hips and chest both. Noticeable scars include several along her back, to which if inquired upon, will earn you only the deepest of her scowls.

::If nothing else, Joyous enjoys adorning her body with different markings, most celebrating an achievement. To note, she has one along her right arm, symbolizing her triumph in becoming a full Scholar, another on her back of Sharlayan design, and two trailing down her legs, marking both her acceptance into the Maelstrom, and her indoctrination into the crew of the L.S.S. Indigo Lass She totes the Mark of the Archon on her neck, and the two lines on her face are rumored to represent her fallen mother, and her mentor.
Hygiene & Attire
In spite of her former Malestrom ties, Joyous Blossom is a tidy woman, who enjoys being presentable in public. Though not the sort of creature to turn up her nose at getting dirty, it is noted that she commonly wears white, and dislikes getting anything stained on it, insisting that a Scholar is neat and orderly both mentally and physically. She's hardly the sort of person who goes out of her way to wear fancy or overly-stylish clothing; everything on her person has a function and a purpose, and that is precisely how she likes it.

"Public" Attire: Joyous dons a set of plain, white robes, and simple leggings. This is usually for when she's casually walking about, not representing the Free Company, or is relaxing somewhere.

"Nymian Scholar" Attire: When presented the opportunity to do so, whether it be at some manner of dinner party or formal event, Blossom will typically don her traditional Nymian Scholar's attire.

"Combat Scholar" Attire: Her most commonly seen outfit, Blossom wears this as a representative of her Free Company, and prefers it for its elegant, simple, and combat-effectiveness over her other clothing. A modified version of the traditional Scholar's uniform, more fitting to Joyous's peculiar style of combat, and boasting the infamous "Sash of Surprise" on her left side and "Chain of Conjury" on her right. Has several pockets along the sleeves, and in the breastcoat hidden carefully in order to perform sleight-of-hand tricks (Two along each sleeve, and four in the breastcoat along her ribs). The glowing cells on her wrists store her own aether, in case of emergencies where it is required. The green, gold, and white colors are thought to represent both Nym and Sharlayan, mixing their color schemes together in what some might consider a rather on-the-nose description of Blossom herself. ((See right)).

"There is no such thing as a blow too low for someone attempting to murder you. Remember this well; it's come quite in handy for me."
Personality
Tough. That is a word that resonates in the very core of what Joyous Blossom is. With a tongue as sharp as Garlean Steel, Joyous is quick to tell people precisely what she's thinking, when she's thinking it. Stubborn and tenacious to a fault, the woman will do whatever it takes in order to accomplish the things that she wants, and will stoop to whatever means in order to do it. So long as she keeps her honor and gets what she sets out to do, in her eyes, everything is fair game. She makes her way, though she is kind and often benevolent towards others. Joyous follows her own moral compass, which, although good, may not exactly blend in with what is proper in society. While she believes in things that are good and right, Joyous has little time or patience for laws and regulations, particularly those of Eorzean setting, claiming that the populace has no idea what's good for them.

To the outside eye, Joyous is poised, highly cynical, elegant, and charming. Her flowery words and poetic way of speaking often behold a proper, prim Scholar of Sharlayan, and thus people expect her to be collected, calm, and prone to not become involved in violent conflicts. Typically carefree, even whimsical upon first glance, Joyous Blossom is quick to violently respond at the slightest provocation, being instinctively hotheaded, impetuous, and confrontational. To many onlookers, she is like a frozen flame--pleasant and beautiful to behold, cold, and slightly off-putting...but when closer inspected, bright and passionate and usually too hot to handle for nearly anybody involved nearby.

However, she is actually rather sensual, warm, and friendly behind her layers and layers of thick skin. She cares for the safety and well-being of people she meets, but would rather see them fight for their survival, rather than running and hiding. In spite of everything that has happened to her, Joyous tries her best to be realistically optimistic towards people she doesn't know; she is wary, but still makes efforts to be trusting to others. Arrogant to a fault, prideful of her knowledge, heritage, and courage, she finds it difficult to admit when she's wrong, if she ever does at all. To her, weakness is something she'd rather hide.
Despite the crap-free attitude, cold exterior, and less-than-polite means of communication, the Sharlayan is good at heart. Although her methods are definitely unorthodox, she means well in what she does, and does legitimately feel for people when they're in some form of trouble. Joyous Blossom would do just about anything to defend the unprotected, unwary, and innocent, to include putting her own life on the line. Fearless to death, the Hellsguard takes life by the horns, and refuses to let go. Though she is a natural-born fighter, and could very well go down swinging in the bitter end, Joyous takes pains not to do so prematurely, scanning her options and quickly deciding on a plan long before making a move.

Many people see Joyous as a hard-ass, incapable of showing emotion beyond scowling, looking down her nose (both figuratively and literally), and being generally cross. She puts people at their limits to test their abilities, in an attempt to improve themselves. She cares for the safety and well-being of people she meets, but would rather see them fight for their survival, rather than running and hiding.
Although she appears to be reluctant to do so, if asked for advice in the matters of combat, the Scholar is always pleased to test their mettle, reforge it, and improve it. Arrogant to a fault, prideful of her knowledge, heritage, and courage, she finds it difficult to admit when she's wrong, if she ever does at all. To her, weakness is something she'd rather hide.

She often goes out of her way to pick fights with others she feels are morally wrong or unjust to others, and it is painfully apparent she delights in making them look foolish through her means of visual trickery and aetheric ability. Easily infuriated by the stupidly brash, morally unjust, and careless, many people see Blossom as a trickster with a harsh punchline—jovial in making people she sees as lower than herself miserable and foolish, but rather stony and crass in every other respect.
It is often remarked by onlookers that she spends most of her brawls overjoyed and giddy at having outsmarted her opponents, often taking her enemies off-guard with just how incredibly implausible some of her schemes really are. Her sleight of hand tricks are a marvel to behold when not on the receiving end...In terms of combat, Joyous Blossom delights in being the center of attention, being something of a brash, egotistical show-off at times, and typically goading enemies into attacking her while planning several steps ahead of them. She is not a woman who shies away from stooping as low as surly taunts, or even outright death threats, and her determination to see victory is so high that those who know her well are somewhat surprised she's not lost a limb...or worse. While usually kind to people, Joyous Blossom isn't shy about returning wrongs tenfold to those who spread them, and is far from squeamish about gruesomely wounding her opponents if she feels the need to do so to make a point.

((TL;DR: Joyous is Urianger's language and intelligence, Thancred's brash and sometimes vengeful nature, and Moenbryda's charm and womanly grace...all smooshed together.))
Voice
Raised in Sharlayan, Joyous was granted with the slight English lilt and tone to her voice, as well as a rather flowery vocabulary, which she uses quite often. However, several summers of being in the Malestrom and the Limsa Lominsan area both seem to have made her forget that, and when provoked into anger, will resort to straight-out cursing. Her voice itself is a held-back presentation of force and power, albeit merely mental or magically speaking.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Ah...freedom. While many might think they understand the concept, Blossom sees freedom for what it truly is...subjective, unfathomable, and ultimately, unobtainable... But that doesn't mean she intends not to seek it out anyway. She places value not only in freedom, but on life and the individual as well, finding that individualism is equally as strong as a group united. Free ultimately believes life not to have any manner of plan, and that destiny is merely a word used to describe what cannot have answers. To her, freedom is the only way one can achieve happiness and satisfaction, knowing all too well the pain of being forced to do something you don't wish to do. The right of a single person to seek their own pleasures is one of the cornerstones of society; but, being good, Joyous refuses to step on others in order to accomplish it...though, she probably could... despite that, she feels every other creature has the right to the pursuit of pleasure as well. Free could never bring herself, however, take action that could unnecessarily jeopardize the lives of other persons or creatures, and does her best to prevent others from doing the same...usually with a few tricks up her sleeves and some insults to throw their way.
Blossom is not beyond harming those who deserve it, and finds a great deal of pleasure in making those who decide to be ignorant and brutish look foolish. Stone finds there is a lesson to be had in everything, and those not willing enough to listen to them ultimately deserve to be picked on by smarter people—mostly, her.

OOC Note
Joyous's style of combat is an unusual one. Of all her assets, the most powerful and deadly is not her magicks, or her Scholar Lores, but her incredibly sharp wit. Blossom is strikingly perceptive, in spite of her mannerisms and outward appearance, able to quickly analyze a person's personality and therefore paint an accurate picture of what their strengths and flaws are. Joyous Blossom finds a bit of glee in psyching out her opponents, doing her best to use their own weaknesses against them, typically resorting to playing on people's overconfidence in themselves. However, she is as susceptible to these tricks as her enemies, and those who can pick up on what she tries to pull will find Joyous backed up into a corner.

Blossom comes off as borderline goofy, and almost dimwittedly careless to most who find themselves in a scuffle against her--however, this is done quite on purpose. Able to disguise one plan within the shroud of another, most people would brush off her actions as carelessness or sheer stupidity; Joyous Blossom on the other hand, makes critical moves while seemingly acting foolish in order to catch people off guard.

With her perceptive nature and Nymian Tactics comes the ability to seamlessly flow from one situation to the other, carefully planning, (and then planning around those plans, and so on,) around each new confrontation that sets itself before her. With this said, Blossom's ability to use her environment and whatever tools are on hand to her advantage comes naturally to her. She keeps a number of tools concealed on her person for such occasions. (See related tab for details)

Joyous Blossom is not a fair player. She considers that every move in combat is fair play (unless it involves damage to the innocent, or being needlessly cruel,) and will resort to run away, throw low blows, or even cheating outright. If her life, or the life of another, is in danger, Blossom is quick to act, regardless of what dishonor or humiliation is involved in the consequences. She picked this particular set of morals from the Maelstrom pirate crew she lived with after the Calamity, her flamboyantly dramatic mentor Archon Blyssbyrn, and the Nymian Tactician Palov Zolev, who was attributed to stating that "Honor means very little to Nym as a people if they are not alive to tell of it. I should rather suffer the dishonor of a foul tactic against our foes than have our children's children pay prices for being too meek to carry them forth."

Family

Emerald Song: Joyous's mother. Formerly, she worked as a sellsword before Ala Mhigo was taken, and barely escaped with her life. Quiet, reserved, and sunny in her personality, she was killed during childbirth giving life to her only blood daughter.

Geissahtyn Kylnlaenysyn'': Father to Joyous. He'd toiled within the earth since the day he'd learned to hold a pickaxe. Stubborn, hard-working, and boisterous in nature, he was a character all in his own right, lighting up a room with his jolly presence, until the death of his wife. He was stricken with madness, unable to cope, and blamed her demise on his daughter, Joyous Blossom. He left Joyous and all five of her adopted siblings abandoned in the wilderness of the Dravanian Hinterlands, only reaching the Sharlayan Colony barely alive. Whereabouts of Geissahtyn are presently unknown.

Acquaintances

• Surito Carito -- A once Lalafellan Scholar of ancient Nym, preserved through a terrible curse. He seeks to find a cure to the state of his people...even at the cost of his own life. Witty, tactical, and unparalleled in his intelligence, he taught Joyous all she knows of Nymian Lore.

Early Age, Sixth Astral Era

Childhood

Sharlayan...a land founded on by the principles of non-violence and intelligence. A haven for those seeking more in their lives than what they were offered, to look beyond the veil and seek out greatness, ran by some of the most magically brilliant minds the world has ever witnessed in the last few eras. This was the home of a bustling river villa, known simply as Singing Springs...and this paradise, the birthplace of Joyous Blossom. Surrounded by humming crystals and volcanic springs that simmered year-round, home to mines where the finest of minerals used all over the Capital were brought, and founded by Hellsguard Roegadyn who had once aided in the overthrowing of a tyrannical dictator of Seawolf lands...it was a paradise to those who lived there as well as those who visited. From the south, food and textiles came up the Nautilus River, and it was down this selfsame river that their glittering gifts were sent back down to crafters to create marvelous works of art, style, and combat.

And in this little villa, lived a pair of Roegadyn, a Sea Wolf and Hellsguard—Geissahtyn Kylnlaenysyn, a miner and native to Sharlayan, born and raised in Singing Springs...and his wife, Emerald Song, once a protector of roadways in Ala Mhigo, who had long left her homeland behind in the aftermath of the former King's madness and now worked to keep up a livelihood of polishing ores and gems. Long had they been wed, and together were perfectly content with the company of the other...but something had felt out of place as the summers came and went. There was an emptiness in their hearts that could not be filled by one another, and so it was that they decided to have a child together. Time and time again they tried...but found they could sire no offspring.
Wanting his wife to feel happy, Geissahtyn went searching for children to take in...though while they could have none of their own, they could at least take in comfort they would not be alone in their cozy home. So it was that they adopted child after child, raising up to five at a time until they'd become grown, as if they were their own, no matter their race or background. The years passed, on and on, and while they'd seen so many children leave and make their own lives, the empty feeling still lingered. Determined to give his beloved a child of their own, Kylnlaeynsyn sought the aid of medicine workers and expert doctors, trying anything he could to bring her joy.
Finally, one late night, Emerald Song was finally with child...their child. For nine long months, the happy couple delighted in every moment awaiting their young one's arrival...until the day finally came. Song was a strong woman, though her wounds from conflicts past had healed, they had never done so completely, and the strain of her body from labor alone gave her both pains and a terrible, swift illness. While their daughter, given the name Joyous Blossom, was born hale and hearty...Emerald succumbed to her sickness, and died but a fortnight later.
Such a loss broke Geissahtyn's heart...along with his mind. He suffered from rambling fits, often regarding his lost wife and how dearly he missed her, blaming the children for her untimely demise, and lamenting ever bringing them into his home. Drinking and madness began to take hold of him, and by the time Joyous was only four summers old, her own father regarded her little more than a murderous thief, the focus of his charge on her very existence. To the horror of what remained of her adopted brothers and sisters, all of whom were treated with ever-increasing hostility, Joyous was often beaten, usually for no purpose at all but to sate the constant agony in the man's suffering heart.
And so it was one day that the Sea Wolf finally lost all sanity, gathering his children onto a small craft and sailing south for the continent of Aldenard. When they at last reached land on the northernmost shores of the Dravanian Hinterlands, he led them to a system of caverns, unpacked but a laughable amount of provisions, and abandoned his six children in the wilderness.
Where it was that Geissahtyn vanished too after such a vicious and ruthless act, nobody can truly say. Rumors have floated about that he still yet lives, a hermit on the very outskirts of the Northern Empty. Others say he has taken to a life of a slaver, taking the lost and downtrodden for profit. It is needless to say that, no matter which tale one listens to about the enigmatic old creature...none of them are an uplifting sort.

It was only thanks to the leadership of the second oldest of the children, a Lalafell boy named Sosorai Ozorai, that the pack of six young ones made the seventy malm journey to the Sharlayan Colony's outskirts. A child with a knack for botany, Sosorai was able to identify safe herbs and roots for his fragile family to eat while on their long and dangerous trek. Caelyn Valriant, the oldest at only fourteen summers old, barely able to hold a weapon for her weakness of hunger, defended her brothers and sisters from whatever vicious creatures stalked their paths. Exhausted and nearly at the doors of Nald'Thal's realm did the band of children finally reach safety in Sharlayan lands, much to the horror of patrols that night.
Joyous, only five summers at the time, was rushed to the nearest infirmary, having suffered from a chill due to exposure to the cold and damp. While most of the six children were wholly unharmed, those who stood vigil over them as they regained their strength worried the experience would do severe damage...and where they would go next. With no orphanages to really be found in the Colony, many wondered what to do with the strangers who had shown up at their doorstep. Their recovery, while slow, was constantly monitored by the concerned learned types, and surely enough as the moons passed all of Kylnlaeynsyn's so-called children had been fully nursed back to health. Alas, there were none willing or able enough to tend to the six on their lonesome...and the family was split asunder for their own benefit.
Blossom was taken to be raised by a pair of Sharlayan Sea Wolves—Eifadoenn Ghimbryd, a well-known archaeologist, and her husband Gohtfyr Haemrkoen, one of the finest men to ever turn rocks and stones into works of art. Between the pair of them, Joyous was raised with the love and concern for the old and new alike, uncovering the secrets of the past with an understanding it may help the future, while generating one's own imprint into history with their own feats. Curious and stubborn to a fault, Joyous was often seen in her mother's rather extensive library, reading as much as she could get her hands upon...and when the books at home had run dry of new information, Blossom found herself determined at only the ripe age of eight summers to enter into the Great Gubal Library, of which countless attempts to sneak past Voidsent, Soulkin, and mortal guards wrought no fruit. To the frustration of both of her parents, Joyous was something of a troublemaker, apt to ignoring the social norms of Sharlayan way, though this was simply out of an earlier upbringing outside of it. Despite her constant scuffles with security, Joyous tried time and time again until at last, Gohtfyr became utterly fed up and relented to allowing her apprenticeship into the Answering Quarter.

Joyous took to being a student as most would say, a mallard to water, though it was more akin to a trout, most of her tutors would later comment. Her eagerness to learn exceeding well beyond excitement, the Hellsguard was oft seen long after lessons had commenced, grilling her Praetors on information in hopes of learning more and more. It seemed to most that Blossom would not be content until she'd annoyed someone to the point of letting her through the doors to the treasured Gubal Library, but it would not come for some long while yet. Apprentices, let alone most unaccomplished folks, were unable to access its halls, and Joyous was nowhere near accomplishing anything of major note. In spite of passing her examinations with flying colors and demonstrating an astonishing knack for both Transfiguration and Arcana, Joyous was merely one fish in a sea full of potential apprentices a senior Sharlayan could take.
Fortune, however, was on Joyous's side, much to her glee. It was by sheer coincidence that she came across renowned Archon and historian Rhotraen Toffund, a Sea Wolf woman with as bitterly cold and steely a personality as one could find, and was familiar with Blossom's adopted mother...though that was hardly enough to persuade her. Joyous, anxious and eager to please someone in order to take on apprenticeship, followed her around akin to a shadow, saying nothing and observing everything the other woman did with ever-growing interest. Toffund had yet to even consider taking on an apprentice in her twelve years as an Archon, in spite of all her work, due to her incredibly high standards and demands from those who worked under her. The young Hellsguard stood vigil outside every building the Archon entered, typically with a pile of tomes to keep her company, only to collect them immediately upon the woman exiting. Rain, shine, sleet or snow, where Rhotraen went, Joyous Blossom was quick to tail.
And as it happened one incredibly hot day, as Joyous picked up her tomes once again to follow the Sea Wolf to her next destination, the Archon paused, turned around, and placed another book upon its top—a work Toffund herself had written on her findings concerning the War of the Magi. This was the only sign the woman would ever give that she'd consented to a pupil—the very slightest of hints—of which Joyous excepted with zeal. The next morning, Rhotraen questioned the young student, believing she'd taken the book without looking at it, expecting that she'd already won the position, on contents within...only to find that Joyous had indeed read through nearly the entirety of the tome without cease but to sleep and eat. Mildly stunned by the dedication, Toffund accepted Blossom as her first and only apprentice to this very day.
Rhotraen Toffund was, without a doubt, a busy woman. With frequent travels towards Eorzea and the sites of eld to uncover the mysteries left behind in the 5th Calamity of Water, Joyous Blossom was hardly ever seen in the Hinterland Colony after taking behind her teacher. Scouring around the overgrown thicket of where once was Admapor in the Black Shroud, near the marshy saltwater wastelands near the Yafemi Saltmoors, Rhotraen exposed her pupil to dangers of both physical and magical powress...from wild beasts roaming the lands, tainted by powers long since passed, to wards of incredible aetheric potency. Nothing seemed to dismantle the young girl to the point of her ever turning back, and her ever-growing determination and excitement to learn was more endearing than agitating. Toffund seemed to enjoy her zeal for learning, rather than merely tolerate it, and stated many a time amongst her closest of friends that she found Blossom's love for discovering the new within the old to be soothingly kindred in spirit to her own loves.
Ah...but where there was one love there is always, inevitably, another—Joyous's came in the form of Vylbrand. The island paradise where once the great and magically prosperous city of the Nymians flourished drew Joyous in as a moth to the flames, and soon Blossom became all-encompassed with learning its intricacies. There was something akin to herself that she saw in the times of Nym past, where strategy and intelligence, combined with force and determination, wrought victory from near to nothing...a series of traits that she undeniably had in spades, to be certain, though hardly as well refined. Though it took two years of begging and pleading to Rhotraen to allow her to continue work independently of her teacher, Toffund eventually relented, and Blossom threw herself into unlocking the secrets of Nym's mysterious and nearly-extinct past.
Bronze Lake was her new home for several years to come. Now sixteen summers, the young woman had established herself as a self-sustaining sort, working odd jobs in order to eke out living near the extensively deep body of water. Her free time was spent digging about, just as her mother had taught her when she was young, seeking some manner of artifact or hint that the Nymians may had left behind...but alas, she could find little to nothing most days... Or, at least, that was what may have been, had she not stumbled upon the petrified remains of one page from a now-famous tome—the Omnilex—said to contain every tactic known to man at the age. With Joyous's discovery, more eager souls from Sharlayan came to dig upon the foundation, hoping to uncover more of Nym's past alongside the girl who had brought it to life once again. After only a summer's worth of moving earth and rock, the dig site uncovered much, from medals to weapons, to pieces of architecture, to age-old remains in the earth; all of which served as a great deal of pride to Rhotraen.

But such things would come to a close come the swelling tide of the Garlean Empire. Having seized Ala Mhigo and now eyeing Eorzea, the grim face of everything Sharlayan stood against now loomed on the horizon, and it was to Sharlayan that the four other city-states now turned to with hope. For Sharlayan and her Colony alike were far more along than they, the learned nation bringing Aetheryte travel and many other innovations to Aldenard's lands in so short a time. But it was the Forum who watched, tentatively, as the Garleans licked their chops on the prospects of taking not only the continent, but likely their own nation next.
Joyous Blossom, having only but recently become an Under-Archon, finally able to have access into the Gubal Library's halls, was filled with no dread or worry in her heart. Carefree but for her own work on bringing Nym back into the light, she noted the plight of Ala Mhigo, but took no qualms with it. However, it would have heartbreaking consequences for her and her longtime mentor with the Forum's demand to withdraw back to Sharlayan, as part of the neutrality towards Garlemald. Torn between her homeland, of which she remembered little to none and had been only some few times before on scholarly trips, and Vylbrand, a land not her own but still owned her heart, Joyous elected to abandon the exodus, and stay behind. Now nineteen summers, she had all but thrown away her life and potential, most said, by choosing to stay with the savage Eorzeans, but none, not even her adopted parents or her siblings could convince her to go.
Joyous Blossom continued to work in the coming moons, alone, at the dig site. Every piece of work she uncovered was taken back to Sharlayan, in hopes that with her sacrifice, just a little more of Nym may survive the Calamity Eorzea had brought down upon itself. The day that none should ever soon forget, Blossom did her damnedest to aid those seeking comfort, shielding some from the debris of collapsing buildings, and mending to the wounds of others. Limsa Lominsa, now that Sharlayan had, in her eyes, turned tail and ran, was now her home...and she would protect it and her people, of whom the Hellsguard knew too well for all her years of being on the island, with equal ferocity.
Adult Years, Seventh Umbral Era

In the wake of the Calamity's aftermath, much was needed...and what she could provide now for her newly adopted homeland, Joyous was both eager and solemn to provide. Having witnessed but a sliver of the grim fate the Garleans had decided to bring upon the realm, Blossom's heart rekindled with new fire and new purpose...to first rebuild Limsa Lominsa to stability, and to then dedicate herself wholly to aiding the Ala Mhigan Resistance with her skills. Though her abilities were far from masterful, Joyous brought solace in any way she could muster, from using her knowledge as a Goldsmith and Armory to aid with masonry and rebuilding, to mending the wounds of the injured and downtrodden. It was such acts of selfless passion that intrigued a ranking officer of the Malestrom, who promptly recruited her into their ranks, making her a fully-fledged citizen of Limsa Lominsa on the spot.

Joyous Blossom served in the Malestrom as a liaison to the people for an entire summer, before being reassigned to the crew of the Lominsan fleet ship, the L.S.S Indigo Lass, a group dedicated to driving back the ever-creeping forces of the Sahagin thralls, the Serpent Reavers, out of Lominsan territories. Never having lived on a vessel before, Blossom took to the life of a seaman with the grace and calmness of a rampaging auroch, serving as the ship's medical expert...with a near-constant case of sea-sickness for the first fortnight. A fish out of water in the very least, Joyous was mostly shunned from her peers and fellow Malestrom members...on land, she was well-beloved and respected...but on sea, she was as much a laughing stock as the village fool. Joyous, being a woman raised on morals and respect, found herself alienated on a crew of ragtag pirates and misfits...something she could never have fixed on her own.

And it would take a near tragedy to remedy the way her crewmates saw her. On the seventh day of the fourth moon, the L.S.S Indigo Lass found itself adrift in a sea of fog. Visibility was near to naught, and the Captain, Zozowadi Borodadi, had no way to guide their vessel safely to port. With no lighthouse in sight, and the Pharos closed off, they floated aimlessly out into the open sea...Sahagin territory. And lo, the Serpent Reavers surrounded the Indigo Lass and her crew on the fourteenth bell, wrangling up their numbers and capturing every last soul on board, dragging them off to a small chain of islands just off the Indigo Deep.
For nearly three moons, the crew of the Indigo Lass was held captive with no hope of rescue from their fellow Malestrom members, having been long thought dead by the second moon. While day after day the Reavers took to drowning males who did not immediately swear alliance to Leviathan (those who had, were drowned anyway,) the female members of the crew, numbering twenty-eight, were subjected to a far worse fate, one could say. Joyous, feeling the hopelessness of her crew settling in to steer them to their doom and not wishing to be one of the number to join her abused allies, began to desperately formulate some manner of escape plan. Their captain soon to be hung before them all as an example and to dampen their remaining hope that the Malestrom would find them, Blossom knew all too well that whatever she concocted would have to be swift...without their captain, beloved by the crew and a moral staple to them all, they were like as not doomed to the fate the Reavers had in mind for them.

The morn Zozowadi was intended to be executed, what remained of the Indigo Lass's ragged and near-dead crew were gathered to witness his murder. It was there that Joyous made her move, laughing aloud as the enemy captain, a Hyur named Sampson, tightened the noose around Borodadi's neck. When beaten down to keep her laughter silent to no avail, the Reaver questioned what caused her so much disruption, asking if she'd merely lost her mind. In response, Blossom shook her head, merely replying that hanging Zozwadi was a cowardly thing to do, and that any man worth his salt would have the brains to simply shoot him and get it over with, stating that Sampson was neither wise nor brave. Furiously, the enemy captain stormed off the stage, giving a blow to the woman himself for her comment before returning to kill off the Malestrom Lalafell. But once again as he went to end his life, the Hellsguard commented again, saying that, now that his crew knew how spineless he was, mutiny was certain to breed within his ranks until it overwhelmed him. A second time did Sampson pause, this time with a legitimate concern, his eyes on his supposedly loyal men. In some way, though she was far from aware of this information, Joyous was not wrong in her assumption, the truth of it now showing in the Hyur's eyes.
“Here's how you can prove you are both wise and dauntless both,” Joyous told him. “Let's take a gamble, shall we? You're still human enough to enjoy a toss of the dice, no?” Of course, came the reply. “Then you and I will take turns gambling. Let us make it a wager of threes...if we bet thrice on three different games, the winner of two shall declare victory. If you win, then we shall all happily throw ourselves to the Lord of the Whorl, or serve you dutifully...whichever suits your fancy. Should we win, you will release me, and me alone.” Such a selfish barter made those crew still left on the Indigo Lass bristle with hatred...how could the Doc, as they'd come to call her, be so callous as to save her own skin?! But the hate-filled glares and curses were entirely ignored by Blossom as she kept her eyes locked onto Captain Sampson. “You see that cloudkin yonder, do you not?” She asked, nodding her head towards a parrot resting in the trees nearby. “Toss two pieces of fish on the ground, and let us gamble on which it will go for first. This will be our first game.”

“Why in the seven pissin' hells would I ever take your little bet for?” The other questioned. “Shut your maw, n' wait your turn, a'fore I stuff somethin' in it to make you silent,” he told her, with a leer. “Very well,” Blossom responded, coolly. “But are you to tell me that you are too afraid of me to play simple games? What might that say to your crew, that you're too afraid of a woman tied and bound and beaten?”

Begrudgingly, Captain Sampson agreed to the terms of the wager, and the first game began. The Serpent Reaver was unfamiliar with the bird perched in the palm trees overhead however...the beloved parrot of the Indigo Lass, a deep bluefeathered creature Captain Borodadi himself kept as a pet, always sat on his left shoulder, and always went for whatever foodstuffs was closest to his beak. And so it was that Captain Sampson lost the first bet.
In his anger, Sampson demanded a second bet, pouring a glass of ale to the brim and dropping a single gil into it, claiming that the first to have the mug overflow would lose. However, through outright cheating using a small piece of cloth to put small drops of her own spit with every gil she put in, Blossom was able to claim victory over the Hyur.
Captain Sampson, utterly furious at being bested twice in a row (once at his own game,) was determined to keep his crew in line by showing his superiority, despite there being no thought of mutiny at all. The captain's own insecurity crippling his thoughts and his mistrust clouding his judgment, he demanded one last all or nothing gamble to determine who would claim victory. Joyous agreed, and requested that two lines of firesand be put onto the sand and lit—whomever laid the proper bet on which would reach the end first would be proclaimed the winner. Both captain and crew of the Serpent Reavers now wholly invested in this battle of fate and fortune did so with gusto, laying two lengthy lines of the black powder across the beach.
As the two sides were lit, the pirates-turned-traitors lined up around the makeshift race to see the results...leaving their prisoners, including Captain Zozowadi himself, unguarded. It was when the crew of the Indigo Lass realized they'd been presented with a means to escape that Joyous Blossom's true intent had been presented—she'd been meaning to distract and enthrall the Serpent Reavers just long enough for the rest of her crew to escape to safety. Freeing Zozowadi and boarding their ship, the Indigo Lass sailed off into open waters, free and in complete secrecy from their captors. However...Joyous herself still remained, in the very heart of the throng of pirates, a fate which Captain Zozowadi refused to allow her to endure for their sake. Turning their cannons on the isle, the Indigo Lass fired on the beach, scattering and killing a great number of their enemies before, at last, Captain Sampson finally realized he'd been taken for a ruse. Viciously, he attempted to attack Blossom for making him look a fool—before taking an astonishingly well-fired cannonball to the torso.

When the L.S.S at last made it to Aleport, Joyous Blossom had already been thanked twelve times over by every remaining member of the crew, and nearly kissed by Captain Zorowadi himself for all his flustered, relieved excitement. It had been through her clever tactics and psychological evaluation that what was left of their number had lived to see another summer, let alone the comforts of home...and it was made quite clear in the reports. Commended for her genius and cool head in the face of danger, Joyous was promoted to Storm Sergeant First Class, and permanently stationed aboard the Indigo Lass as their physician.
Though no adventure was quite as flavorful for the next three years as that first, Joyous Blossom's carefully planned tactics and expertly crafted battle stratagems led the Indigo Lass on a crusade that rivaled the most seasoned of Malestrom units in the area, launching a campaign of recruitment unlike Limsa Lominsa had ever seen, and seeing the lowest number of Serpent Reavers near Lominsan waters in recent history. Paired with Captain Zozowadi's unparalleled leadership abilities and nautical powress, and First Mate Bleiblaet Fraesyn's incredible skills as a Marauder, little to nothing could stand before the Indigo Lass.

But soon yet, Joyous heard of what lay in her former home along the Bronze Lake dig...a place no longer existing on a map, but instead replaced with what could only be described as her wildest dreams come true. Bronze Lake, though drained of its water by the Calamity's destruction, had yielded something far more precious than a mere saltwater lake...but the ruins of a civilization that could be none other than Nymian. With this information given to her, Blossom immediately retired from the Malestrom, having become bored with the lull of peace, and longing to return to her true calling. Though it was with a heavy heart, the Hellsguard left Limsa Lominsa and her second family aboard the Indigo Lass, and once again set forth towards Bronze Lake.
Another summer would come and go before Joyous came across anything truly eventful. While each and every day uncovered new information that the Sharlayans could have only dreamed of but a short while ago, all paled in comparison to what lay within the ruins of the Wanderer's Palace. Once a shrine to the patron deity of Nym, Oschon, dedicated to taking in those who traveled from all over the world, brimming with market stalls and a place of worship to the Wanderer himself, now crawled with deadly Tonberries. Too eager to pass up an opportunity to recover precious relics from the place, Joyous crept into the Palace...one of the first to enter in nearly fifteen-hundred years.
It was in the confines of the Wanderer's Palace that Joyous Blossom stumbled upon a chamber deep within the heart of where the God of divine winds was worshiped, and therein found a peculiar crystal embedded with a mark rather familiar to her...that of the infamous Nymian Scholar, known for their tactical prowess and arcane magicks in combat and out alike. It was this crystal, a soul crystal, that was one of many Souls of the Scholar to emerge shortly after the Calamity's wake, and led the way to the perseverance of the Nymian art, with Joyous Blossom fervently at its head. Seeking to unlock the secrets of Nym and presenting her findings to Sharlayan in order to preserve them, Blossom took refuge in the Wanderer's Palace, living in secret from Tonberry, Mamool Ja and pillager alike in the vast network of hallways. It was in these halls that Joyous stumbled upon her next teacher, the Lalafell-turned-Tonberry, Sarito Curito, whose story deeply touched the Hellsguard's heart. Ecstatic beyond belief at finding living, breathing Nymians, Joyous switched her focus from learning on her own, to aiding Surito Carito in any way she could to reverse the terrible curse which had befallen his people.
Unable to call upon the magicks of summoning in his own right, Sarito passed on his skills and knowledge to the ever-eager Joyous, who devoured even the most slice-of-life stories he had to share with increasing interest, relishing in every detail. Dedicating herself to protecting the Nymians still remaining in the Wanderer's Palace, Blossom learned every aspect of Scholarly arts in order to keep intruders out of the confines of the tainted palace. Seeking to find a solution to her mentor's malady, Joyous Blossom left the Nymian territory in order to seek aid through other means, finding no help from her former mentors or any manner of Sharlayan texts within the Great Gubal Library.
Seventh Astral Era
And it was because of her desire to free the people of Nym from their torment that Joyous Blossom eventually left the Palace, though what she intends to do now remains a mystery. At the present, she resides with a scholastic group known as the Salt of the Rhotondo, a high-class collection of elite adventurers and researchers dedicated to the recording and study of Eorzea's secrets.

Affiliations
She has made a number of connections across the world in her travels.
Sharlayan: Though technically no longer considered a citizen of Sharlayan, Joyous Blossom states that when you've spent your whole life somewhere, you never stop being part of it, nor it you. She insists she is Sharlayan first and Lominsan second, despite her choices clearly reflecting otherwise.
Arcanist's Guild: When not buried in tomes, you may find Blossom in the Lominsan guild, teaching Sharlayan Arcana to newcomers...much to the frustration of the guildmaster.
The Nymian Tonberries: Perhaps the most likely of places to find Joyous Blossom is in what once was the great city-state of Nym...or rather, its remains. Having lived under the tutelage of Surito Carito for several summers, she is incredibly tied to not only the old ways of this long lost civilization, but one day reviving it and its secrets to at least part of its former glory.
Idyllshire: Having once been a resident of the former colony, Joyous Blossom spends a great deal of her time in the Dravanian Hinterlands, guiding would-be pioneers through potential death traps, explaining the advanced technological aspects of the Sharlayans to locals, and (on more than one occasion,) shutting the door to the Great Gubal Library when careless adventurers leave it open.
IC Inventory
The following items are things that Joyous carries on her person at all times. These are noted for pickpockets, and those watching her closely. This information is meant to be a prompt for insight and is not to be meta-gamed, though feel free to use this information if it comes up logically in RP (pickpocketing, a search, etc) with use of a simple /tell.

Glio coinpurse.png Tome.png Page64.png 300px-Ahriman-stock.png

Coinpurse: A simple coin purse made of soft leather, containing a few hundred gil.
Joyous Blossom's Sharlayan Tome: A worn, torn, smeared, smudged, far-from-pristine book of Sharlayan make. One could say it is because of Sharlayan magicks that this book is so sturdy...or it may very well have fallen apart ages ago. Joyous Blossom has carried this book around with her since beginning her training in the Sharlayan capital, and it's been filling up with information ever since. This book is utterly enormous, weighing several ponze. It's sheer girth is astonishing, with the novel nearly bursting at the seams with how large it is. Anybody even glancing at its contents would be striken with utter confusion, as the entire tome is a mangled mess of parchment pieces glued to already existing pages—evidence that these are bits that Joyous Blossom herself stuck to them in order to make additional notes. Some of these stick out when the book is shut, giving it a very messy, disorganized appearance at best. Joyous claims she's the only one who could make sense of the labyrinthine tome...given how it's laid out, one could certainly mark that as true. It contains all of her magic incantations (that she knows of, and when she learns new ones, she slaps them in there as well,) including Nymian Lores, Nymian tactics, sleight-of-hand tricks, Sharlayan transfiguration magicks, in addition to other important information she might have. [This will never contain information she already doesn't know, and therefore is not an Ex Machina.]
"Understanding Eorzea" by Archon Sevaron L'Nuit: Formerly a guidebook on Eorzea, brought to life by Sharlayan Transfigurative magicks. While devoid of its original contents, the accidental creation follows Joyous Blossom around relentlessly, scribbling down details of her exploits down to the very last. Full of quips, nagging, and a snarky-yet-serious attitude, the book serves as a comedic foil to Blossom's more casual nature. It has a terrible habit of hurling itself at strangers, in spite being completely without threat to them.
The "Sash of Surprise": Named rather plainly by Joyous Blossom herself, this green and gold sash commonly seen on her person in daily wear is a tough-woven garb worn on her side, tucked neatly into her belt. Blossom often uses the thick, long cloth in emergencies, tossing it onto her enemies in order to momentarily blind or bind them. While not impossible to slice through, it would take an uncommonly sharp blade to do so in one strike...or a potent arm.
The "Chain of Conjury": A pure gold chain commissioned from the Goldsmith's Guild for quite the hefty gil. Sitting on the opposite side of her waist from the "Sash of Surprise", the chain is easily accessible to Blossom whenever she should need it, often using the rather lengthy (16 ilm) conduit of aether to safely trigger traps, grapple items, and perform sleight-of-hand tricks.

Magnets (4): Ordinary magnets, used to attract metal objects, and powerful enough to hold a small (1 ponze) item if held closely enough to it. Often stored in Joyous's pockets for sleight-of-hand tricks.

1 bottle of Void Glue": An incredibly tiny vial of Void Glue, made by an alchemist. Dries very slowly, providing an almost gum-like consistency for about 2 bells (2 hours) before it hardens. Good for about 4 or so applications, depending on the circumstances. Typically used for pranks and sleight-of-hand...also useful for when you've shattered a dish.

Speedreader: One of many types of Voidsent, formerly bound to the Great Gubal Library in service to the researchers there. Speedreaders were often used to scour tomes and scrolls set before them, absorbing and gathering information to be relayed to one of the many living inkwells within the Library's confines, making gathering research quick and efficient and cutting both time and manhours spent nearly in half. While this particular Speedreader was freed from its fetters to the Library by Joyous Blossom, it was quickly put back into service as her assistant (and mount) on her adventures. Though not usually given titles in their enthrallment, Joyous elected to dub this particular creature with the name Angra.
RP Limits
While Joyous is cool and calm on the exterior, the slightest bit of provocation can get her flying off the handle and into a conflict, making her just the right balance of action and casual RP.
Acceptable is all RP themes from dark, serious and mature (violence, sexuality, torture, murder, conflict, drug / alcohol use) to the more light-hearted, humorous and simplistic, as long as it makes sense in the course of the RP. Plots that range from long-term to one-shots, elaborate and large-scale to minor and frivolous. Serious injury. Temporary injury and incapacitation. Temporary captivity or imprisonment. Combat, ambushes, assassination attempts, rivalries, friendships, romantic or sexual tension, coarse language and morally unclear subjects are all welcomed.
Ask about mutilation, permanent scarring or symbolic markings, long-term and/or permanent injury and disfigurement. Long-term captivity or imprisonment. Temporary character death. Significant mental tampering or programming. Anything dramatically character-changing or that might render her unplayable for a prolonged period of time.
Unacceptable is permanent character death. Permanent maiming or any crippling that prevents her from functioning independently. Random ERP that occurs outside of organic interactions.

Player Note
First, thanks for taking the time to read my wiki! I'm the voice of reason and terrible creative mind behind Joyous. I've been RPing for over half my life (12 years now and counting), and love the hobby. That said, I do have a few extra things to note. First and foremost is that I know Blossom is opinionated and has some pretty extreme viewpoints, but that's not necessarily reflective of me as a person. I always expect and try myself to maintain a clear IC / OOC division in RP. Joyous's feelings and my feelings are separate. I prefer clear lines of communication with whomever I'm RPing with, and those I'm RPing with should always feel free to send a /tell to clear up any questions.
Character Lore Adherence
Everything concerning this character that has not been confirmed by in-game lore should be taken with a grain of salt.
