History Sixth Astral Era Childhood N'vael's early life always seemed unfulfilling. It was a typical upbringing in Gridania, uneventful and peaceful. Most of the time it seemed her time was spent exploring and tending the forests and nurseries of the surrounding Shroud, a passtime that quickly became more of a labour than a passion, to the point that the mere sight of foliage made her nearly sick. Even young as she was, she yearned for something better than a life of stationary gardening, but few travel options and a necessity to continue keeping her duty to the Shroud prevented her from finding anything more suiting to her tastes. Not much is known about this period, other than that it is most likely where her lackadaisical outlook on the world came from. If the world wouldn't inspire her, it was simply not her role to be inspired. Seventh Umbral Era Adulthood During her formative years N'vael would, as was her wont, wander through Gridanaia looking for things to spark an interest in her, to break the monotony of her existence. Upon passing by the Lancers Guild for the umpteenth time, something about the way the new recruits were drilling with practice spears caught her eye that day. For once, a glimmer of interest sparked within her, and she continued to watch them, day after day for many weeks, until she had seen enough to walk into the guild and enlist. In Recent Times Moving Forward The years passed by predictably, with N'vael falling into the routine of training with the spear and endless practice drills slowly eroding what little interest she had in the art, eventually ending up as a bored but capable sentry at Dunstan's Spire, situated in the central portion of the Shroud; a safe, dull post usually reserved for the cowardly or for punishing headstrong recruits. Her days were spent idly staring out over the forest, disinterested in all that lay before her. Wailer patrols, travelers passing through the forest on their way to and from Gridania and botanists tending to the groves and farms forming a procession of drudgery that never seemed to end. Till one day, she was sent on a routine patrol to Haukke Manor, and an encounter with a mysterious horned woman sent her placid life tumbling....
