"I picked myself up from the cold stones of a broken city and made a name for myself that most men would be proud to even imagine themselves holding. I'll be damned if some powdered prick with daddy's name thinks himself above me because of the blood that runs through his veins." ~ Abrenard Rondelet

W.I.P

An incredibly private personality, most find it a surprise that the man clad in such imposing attire is rather friendly in nature. All too glad to settle for a drink with fair company, he seems a far throw from the heavily reserved and cold-hearted Ishgardian stereotype. Bold with his words and actions yet wise enough to pick and choose his battles, he makes for a loyal companion to those who respect his skill and his want to keep his distance. Rare is he prone to outright anger though he's known to be full of snark if there's something he doesn't much care for set on the table. Despite all of this, he goes to great lengths to hide his face from wandering eyes. Be it behind the visor of his serpentine helm or a hand-carved wooden mask when he's bathing, there seems to be something that drives him to hide himself away from those curious about his features. If asked the reason for the concealment, he never seems to truly answer the question directly, often dodging to another topic or giving a rather vague remark about how ugly he looks under it all. Still, he almost seems to desire what he can't very well have when it comes to interaction with others. Prone to ruffling the hair of those he feels protective of with a tendency to scritch the ears of Miqo'te companions, he almost always seems to draw himself away before going through with such actions.

Other Notes

Likes

  • Chocobo:

The common steeds hold a great significance to the man. Far wiser than most would assume, he can often be seen in the company of his own mount. Typically pampering her with various treatments while cooing sweet little nothings and one-sided conversations with the creature.

  • Equality:

Having abandoned his duties as a Dragoon upon viewing the way those of the high class treated those thought to be below them, Abrenard is fierce when it comes to the subject of equality regardless of the subject matter. Rare is it for him to allow a racial slur slip from a tongue without reprimand.

  • Challenges:

The training of the Dragoon is perilous and not for the faint of heart. Yet while some cower at the thought of such a arduous journey, he flourishes with a grin on his lips and a fire in his heart. Be it mental or physical, he'll not often outright deny the challenge posed before him and can often be seen dabbling in his spare time with various riddles or physical training that borders on the insane.

Dislikes

  • Surprises:

No surprise he's ever suffered has been a good one and thus, he tends to become a touch tense when one rolls along. There are exceptions, mostly if the person dropping said surprise is a close comrade, but they still tend to make his gut roll uncontrollably with discontent and stress.

  • Nobility:

The thought of any man or woman holding themselves above others due to bloodline or wealth is laughable to a man who had nothing and built a life for himself from nothing. Most Ishgardians will find him to be incredibly put off by their presence and his words incredibly unforgiving. If you want to hold such a status, earn it. To do otherwise is disrespectful to those who put forth the effort to climb the ladder.

  • Poachers:

Having found a home in Tailfeather as a rancher of sorts, there's nothing that sets the man's blood ablaze more than the tale of an innocent beast beaten and bloodied for little more than greed. To claim otherwise before him doesn't often last long before it turns vicious.

Family

  • A bastard orphan, Abrenard currently has little idea whom sired him or if there were others. Should any become known over time, they will be listed here.

Comrades

Currently under the employ of the Radical Dreamers. The Dreamers are by all accounts a form of mercenary company accepting applicants from all walks of life. While he doesn't share their dream of an ideal world due to his experiences in the past, Abrenard has settled amongst their number with hopes that perhaps they may hold the knowledge to unlocking the 'Pull' he feels guiding him as of late.

  • Kiipa Nulstat (PC) - When the man first awoke to find himself in the lands unknown, he was given but a name and an instruction. Kiipa Nulstat was the name given and as such, she has become a priority for Abrenard. Whatever force has taken to guiding him seems to gravitate towards the woman and her half-blood son, Bjorn. What small glances he's caught of her have led him to thoughts not his own and his want to hold the infant have him entirely perplexed as they've not exchanged any direct words with one another.
  • Anton Borneheld (PC) - A Hyur chef that was the first to speak with Abrenard once he set foot in the Dreamer's yard. Bringing him out from the cold night air and offering him stiff drink, employment and conversation, Abrenard finds the man to be a decent friend thus far. Time will tell if that proves to be true.

Friends

Disclaimer: The notes below are purely in character and are not influenced at all by OOC, or how well I know anyone outside of RP. If there's a missing listing, it's either due to the author's poor memory or there being too little information for Abrenard to consider them more than a simple contact.

  • Sven - One of the first to converse with him at length, Abrenard finds the small Au'ri woman to be rather charming in her own way. After settling together for drinks and her confession of her prenancy and broken heart, it was Abrenard's words that brought her to realize that she shouldn't burden herself with the guilt of the relation ending.
  • Nai Ruahki - A mysterious Miqo'te woman with a head of lavender hair, Abrenard finds her company to be oddly enjoyable when she's not caught in the midst of the public eye. Prone to teasing the man about his habits and often sporting a smirk, there's something about the woman that catches him off-guard. Though he has no ties to her, there's an underlying want to scritch along her ears and connect. However it came about, he's certainly not one to humor it.
  • Aerisette Dellamorte - A young woman who often goes by the name 'Mouse' due to her being far too small to be a 'Dock Rat', she holds what seems to be a deep love for exploration and tales from those who've caught themselves in the field of battle. Having met by chance during a stroll across the docks that led to Abrenard discovering Nai, he soon joined them and was caught in the woman's crosshairs once the Miqo'te informed her of his past.

Other Connections

Common Rumors

  • "The serpent fellow? Don't know much about him. Never shows his face. Seen him with a bunch of different masks but I can't say I know who he is under it."
  • "Think he's a burn victim, myself. Says he's a former dragoon and most would hold their chin high for it. This one keeps his distance from the observant. Likely had his face scorched by dragon fire."

Moderate Rumors

  • "He doesn't know why he's even down here in the first place. Asked him one night when we were drinking and he spun some story about being kidnapped from Tailfeather. Says they didn't take a damned thing from him, though. Some bloody 'kidnapping' that was."
  • "He's honestly sort of adorable even with the armor. Caught him in the midst hugging his chocobo and saying all sorts of sweet things. It was honestly incredibly cute in it's own way."

Rare Rumors

  • "Abrenard Rondelet. Former Dragoon. Showed incredible promise during his time. Not often you see one of the commoner's climb the ranks as he did but it was nothing short of a miracle that he did. He retired from the order after an incident involving a young lad being put to the axe for thieving from the Fortemps. A shame, really."
  • "He seems confident and maybe even a touch cocky when you speak with him. I can't help but feel that under it all, he's lost. He's been pulled into unknown lands without so much as a friendly face to reassure him. Not a single coin to his name from what I've seen. "
  • "He claims the serpent attire is due to a nickname he was given during his training by his fellow comrades. Something like 'Snakebite' or something of the sort because of how quiet he was until he decided you needed a swift kick in the arse. Real snake in the grass, if you'll pardon the pun."

Trivia

  • As mentioned throughout this profile, Abrenard absolutely refuses to show his face in the public eye. Chances are if he's removed his snake helm, a mask holds snug to his features and most if not all are secured by a binding to ensure none look to pull it from him suddenly.
