GENERAL INFORMATION

Collected and quiet, this reclusive Keeper is far more content to listen rather than speak. She carries herself with a sense of pride and grace that is as much a mark of the wilds of the Shroud where she grew up, as it is the sign of someone with enough social etiquette to know how to move around others. The birth of her child, a recent affair, has filled out the lean woman, and she carries a maternal air that has done nothing to dull the sharp tongue those who call her friend are used to.

APPEARANCE

Kiipa's grey skin marks her quite clearly as a Keeper upon first glance, and she maintains a tie to her homeland of the Shroud in the coloring that she chooses to surround herself in. While her hair is a natural dusky green, she's not afraid to have the lengthy strands dyed a variety of other colors; white, platinum blue, and even black have been favored previously. Abandoning the sleek look of her youth, she bears more the look of a wolf – or perhaps a richly spoiled housecat – than her kin, with slightly larger ears and a very full tail that reaches to her ankles in length.
While her body is more curved since the birth of her child, she has nearly returned to her previous fit self, and dresses herself in modest clothing while in the company of those who demand a sense of propriety. When comfortable, she favors items that bare her shoulders and arms, though she is not beyond putting on something a little racy just to turn heads once in a while.
Her strength and agility are hidden beneath the robes she wears when working, but she's very clearly a ranged fighter who likely doesn't specialize in close combat. Always present on her person is a black leather collar around her neck, and she can be seen touching it while lost in thought.

PERSONALITY

Kiipa's personality upon first meeting can be vastly different per person. She wears her opinions on her sleeve, and it is not hard to be on the opposite side of a devastatingly low opinion for little more than one's race.

At her best, Kiipa is an easy-going woman with a silver tongue and a playful nature that seeks to pull even the most quiet and reclusive of person out of their shell. She is gentle and almost maternal to those that she regards as in need of protection, but those who she takes under her wing are held to a higher standard than most - it is not hard to fail to live up to her expectations, though she is kind enough not to say so.

At her worst, she is a reclusive woman with distinct xenophobic tendencies. The ease with which she flirts at her best is instead replaced by a quick temper and a harsher tongue that easily finds the worst in a person and twists it into a weapon against any who might offend her. She loses her ability to understand and even cope with emotions, often lashing out in anger when patience is desperately needed.

L I K E S

Carbuncles. Kiipa's adoration for the little creatures came not long after she managed to successfully summon her first. While she travels in the company of her fae more often than not, it's not uncommon to see a carbuncle of blue following in her steps.
Stars. An unexplained enjoyment, the vast sky and the glimmering lights hold her interest more than most things tend to.
Music. A more private passion that she rarely gets to enjoy as of late, but music holds a special place to her.
Fish. Calming for her, nothing makes her happier (short of a few things) than a day spent fishing.

D I S L I K E S

Arrogance. Kiipa has little time for those who are arrogant, and she'll spend little time around those who continue to display this unfavorable trait.
Heat. Despite having come to reside in the Goblet during her work, Kiipa has never adjusted to the heat of the land... that she's easily sunburned doesn't make it any easier.
Cold. While she's fond enough of the cool brought on by a rain in the Shroud, she has no love for the frigid weather found more north than that.

H O B B I E S

Weaving. Her skill with the craft is considerable, and most of her own coin is made with it in some fashion or another.
Writing. A hobby encouraged by a lone writer that she met and later befriended, Kiipa finds solace in the crafting of words, and delights in creating stories for the young, and tales for the... older.
Culinary. While her meals are generally built around fish or seafood, Kiipa knows her way around a kitchen and isn't afraid to cook up something exotic – as long as she has the recipe.

S T R E N G T H S

Love of Learning. In Kiipa's eyes, nothing is out of reach or forbidden. While she is sane enough to keep away from dangerous topics, there is little more delightful to her than learning something new, or relearning something she already knows that makes it more efficient or practical.
Integrity. Though her moral code is truly her own, she remains steadfast to it even if others might not wholly agree. More than that, she presents herself in a manner that is as honest as it can be – she does not like the idea of giving others a false impression.
Modest. It is not uncommon for her to not only not accept given compliments or praise, but for her to throw the compliment onto the shoulders of another. She believes that her works speaks well enough for her, and that the lives she betters are all the praise that she needs.
Loyalty. Those who befriend the Keeper woman know that her loyalty to her friends and those she considers her family is paramount. Nothing is too much when it comes to them, and in her, all those she loves find a stalwart companion who will fight to the bitter end for them.

W E A K N E S S E S

Claustrophobic. Tight spaces and crowds are a good way to get the woman backed into a corner and looking for any way out. She'll avoid them as best she can, but as of late has tried to break the fear.
Lack of Self-Control. Best seen in conjunction with addictions, or when she's pushed to a point where a choice needs to be made. She becomes easily manipulated, and while she will always admit her failings, she does try her very best to avoid reaching the point of no return.
Alcoholic. When worse comes to worse, Kiipa's faithful friend is a bottle of the strongest thing money can buy. Though she restrains herself for the sake of others, when times get hard, she loses what little control she has.
Judgmental. First impressions are critical for the woman, and ones that are unfavorable settle deep in her mind and are hard to change. She's not afraid to voice her opinions on most races, viewing Seeker Miqo'te as lesser beings regardless of who they are as people. Harsh and cruel to those who have hit this darker side, it's rare for someone to make it out of the mental cavern she throws them into.

M O T I V A T I O N S

Family. Having lost her own during the Calamity, Kiipa seeks to rebuild and form a family whose bonds may not be tied by blood, but instead by love and devotion. Oddly enough, her new family is shaping up to be considerably lacking in fellow miqo'te...
Children. As the matriarch of her family, she believes it is her duty to bring new life into the fold. Old injuries make this difficult, but she has no problem trying as often as she needs.
Learning. There is always something new to learn, and no matter what it is... she wants it.
Travel. Something of a homebody, her dream is to travel as needed to not only see the world, but aid those who have fallen on hard times.

COMBAT & WEAPONRY

While her medical knowledge almost asks that she be familiar on a rudimentary level with several different combat styles, Kiipa herself has limited capabilities in a melee capacity. She is nimble and quick, a good sparring partner for simple grappling, but it is in her ranged abilities where her most potent magicks lie.

Best known for her healing abilities with a fairy at her side, Kiipa's offensive abilities are brought out only when she is most threatened, or absolutely required to cause pain upon an enemy. Where some would attack with sword or axe, Kiipa's magic instead goes below the surface, turning an enemy's body into their own worst enemy. Capable of inflicting sickness, disease, and even weakness without even needing to touch a person, her infections ranging from light illness to devastating plague.
OOC Note: Kiipa's offensive abilities are based on player extrapolation given the naming conventions of her Arcanist and Scholar abilities. She is, offensively, a plague-bringer. These are moderated depending on event, though she very rarely enters combat offensively.

HISTORY

PRE-CALAMITY

The Unknown
There are no records for anyone named Kiipa Nulstat, and thus her deep history remains in shadows to all but a rare few.

POST-CALAMITY

The Unspoken
Ledgers maintain that an unknown Miqo'te Keeper was pulled from the rubble in the Shroud by rescue crews after Bahamut's appearance jolted the land, along with the crushed corpse of a young Keeper male. Near death, the woman later identified herself as 'Kiipa,' though she could recall no family name. Anything past her recovery in Gridania and her later move to Limsa Lominsa is missing from the records, and no effort has been made to find her and document her life past that point.

SINCE CHARACTER CREATION

A Realm Reborn:
‡ – While working under Maelstrom physicians, Kiipa's curiosity and natural talent for numbers and theories leads her superiors to suggest she begin offensive training beneath the Arcanist's Guild. After a few small trials, she is taken in and splits her time between learning and serving.
‡ – Once deemed to be book smart enough to handle herself, she is sent on courier trips to outside towns. She forms a small name for herself as a traveling healer, while privately finding her own combat style.
‡ – After successfully summoning a Carbuncle, the somewhat reclusive and lonely Keeper finds solace in the company of the creature. Her superiors note the change, and there is debate between them as to if she should be coached along the learnings for Summoners or Scholars.
‡ – A chance meeting with the imposing, but friendly, Areic Davrun leads to conversation about aether and the possibility of a flaming axe. It is during this conversation that she decides to name her Carbuncle, choosing Memory.
‡ – Despite believing it a chance encounter, Areic slowly becomes a steadfast part of the Arcanist's life, sending encouraging words to her when she writes her fears. Amusingly enough, she seems completely numb to his playful flirting.
‡ – No longer needed among the townships of Limsa Lominsa, Kiipa is sent to the corrupt city of Ul'dah, where she experiences the first real signs of stereotypes against her people. Unfortunately, this city is also where she grows to harbor a deep resentment for Seekers, especially the males.
‡ – During a quiet moment of relaxation in the popular Quicksand, Kiipa takes an unlikely step and approaches Kian Daas, and finds someone of relatively like mind. His generally melancholy and grumpy behavior triggers a different mood-set when in his company, and few she comes to meet at the tavern come to know anything but the bubbly persona she exudes in an effort to make Kian smile.
‡ – Once more at the Quicksand in Kian's company, Kiipa's sharp hearing alerts her to a self-defeating conversation, and she joins in, mocking Anton Borneheld and his choice in clothing while he converses with Leif Steele. Kian warns her not to pick fights she cannot win, and ultimately Kiipa leaves the bar defeated, but with her head held high. Honestly, those shoes were terrible!
‡ – Kiipa is drawn inexplicably to the Radical Dreamer estate in the Goblet, and meets Vanilla Wayfarer. Despite her instinctive dislike for Seekers, Vanilla manages to make a good first impression and becomes the first Dreamer to formally invite the Keeper into the halls. Not yet ready to make the plunge, Kiipa declines politely, but later does join the ranks as a background member.
‡ – A friendly enough interaction between Anton and others leads Kiipa into the company of a quiet Duskwight named Felix. Both sensibly choose not to engage in intimacy given their drunken minds, but they grow close over the next several weeks.
‡ – During another bar night on the estate, Kiipa meets Gen Quickpaw, the leader of the Radical Dreamers. Her impression of him is not great, .
‡ – Felix's confession that his affections for another woman have grown to love devastate the Keeper female, more because she lacks the experience to wholly understand the emotions raging through her. Returning to Limsa, the Keeper is found quite drunk by Kian and Leif, who implore her to cease her drinking. Areic collects her, taking her to his home, where Kiipa has resided during travels to Gridania.
‡ – Areic takes Kiipa to his bed, and asks her to be more than just the stray cat who sleeps in front of his fire. He promises her warmth and love, a home and family, for only her heart. Still stung from Felix's confession, Kiipa accepts. She never feels regret for the quickly made choice, though her feelings for Areic are still confusing to her.
‡ – Kiipa travels north to study more healing pursuits, and nearly dies during her travels. A passing healer manages to rescue the woman, but loses her when Kiipa wanders off after waking in delirium. Kian is alerted by Kiipa's associate, and leaves to rescue his Keeper-sister, but not until after severely crippling his relationship with Leif.
‡ – Kiipa learns of Kian and Leif's separation from Leif, and the resulting fight when Kian appears damages the friendship between the two siblings.
‡ – Areic finds Kiipa baking up a storm in his home, something she is prone to doing only when upset. After pulling her sorrows from her, he tells her that the best thing to do for Kian may simply be to wait.
‡ – Kian and Kiipa meet, and while his initial words are harsh, in the end all is forgiven. Kiipa learns that Kian felt abandoned to his pain in the wake of the altercation with Leif, while Kiipa had simply figured that if the man needed her, he would have called. They part tearfully, with Kian telling her that he's going on a soul-searching trip... and he may not come back.
Heavensward:
‡ – While out fishing, Kiipa makes the acquaintance of Erimmont Chevalier. While initially an annoyance to him, her intelligence and interest in him beyond his body intrigue him.
‡ – As armies flood north, Kiipa and Anton make their own journey to Ishgard. For Kiipa, it is an opportunity to learn more that can benefit the Radical Dreamers. For Anton, a chance to prove to the friend he cares deeply for that his affections are true.
‡ – During a stop in Lavender Beds, Kiipa and Erimmont discuss their own personal lives while Anton rests with the chocobos. He finds them later, seated outside Areic's home.
‡ – Some weeks later, Kiipa begins to lash out at others while feeling ill. Afraid she might be dying, she retreats to Areic's home in the company of Erimmont, hired to tend to her for the duration of her needs. This event cripples the friendship between Anton and Kiipa.
‡ – Weeks pass, and Kiipa is overcome with emotion to find out that she is not dying, only pregnant. Erimmont continues to be a steadfast companion, and eventually accompanies her to Limsa, where she chooses to have her son in the region where she and his father met.
‡ – Kiipa finds herself strained adjusting not only to life with a child, but attempting to field hostilities and jealousies between Erimmont and Anton. Gen begins to play a more integral part in her life, helping her navigate her new motherhood using his experience as a father.
‡ – Erimmont undergoes a personal trial, begging Kiipa to remain away. Despite her misgivings, she agrees to do so.
‡ – Kiipa begins to return to her training on a personal level, developing her prior plague-casting in private.
‡ – Gen becomes more than a mere friend, now a trusted confidante as Erimmont begins a relationship with Glioca Sargonnai after confessing his love for Kiipa herself. During an intimate moment, Kiipa sees the marks left by the other woman and experiences uncomfortable doubt.
‡ – Glioca and Kiipa converse, and show a measure of friendship while Erimmont rests. The two get along well enough, tied by their affections for the same man.
‡ – Erimmont leaves the Free Company, and while Kiipa encourages him to do so for his own sanity, the action puts distance between them.
‡ – Kiipa miscarries early into a second pregnancy, and experiences intense feelings of self-hate and fear.
‡ – Kiipa throws herself back into work, keeping a slight eye on Anton while settling herself into her new place among the ranks of the Dreamers.

RELATIONSHIPS

RELATIONSHIP STATUS LEGEND
💕 Involved -- 💗 Romantic -- Platonic -- 💋 Physical -- Friend -- Acquaintance -- $ Business -- Deceased -- Positive -- Negative -- Neutral -- Unsure
FAMILY (PC)
Areic Davrun, Mate. (💕💗💋 ) - The Grinning Axe.
Character's Thoughts: "There is too much to be said for him. Suffice to say that I never expected a Highlander to be the one to win me, but I regret not even a single day. I never will."
What started as innocent inquiry on his behalf became a relationship over time, catching the Miqo'te woman by surprise. No matter where he travels, he travels with her heart and soul. Because they spend a great deal of time apart, she often carries a trinket of his on her person.
Erimmont Chevalier, Lover. (💗💋) - The Shrouded Heart.
Character's Thoughts: "Intelligent and clever, he's a cunning friend and a trustworthy companion. My only regret is that I cannot give him what he desires, and I know that one day I must watch him walk away – I only hope I can be truly happy for him when the time comes."
While initially an annoyance to the man, Kiipa found in him a stalwart companion during her first pregnancy, and what was once just formal companionship soon slipped into something more. Despite this, she finds herself keeping him at arm's length... especially after her miscarriage.
Kian Daas, 'Brother'. ( ) - Supreme Grumplord.
Character's Thoughts: "He's my brother. It matters not that he is not miqo'te... it matters only that he is there. I would walk through fire for the man, without question."
Kiipa's devotion to her Hyuran brother is as unwavering as it is deep, and she associates many of the choices she makes with the very early lessons he taught her, if unknowingly. Despite a few rocky patches as any siblings are like to encounter, there is no doubt in Kiipa's mind that if she had need of him, he would be there. Likewise, there are likely very few who could claim to be more at the grumphus' side... should he ever need her. .
Anton Borneheld, Best Friend. ( ) - The Silver Chef.
Character's Thoughts: "It will never stop hurting, telling him what I did. I know his feelings run deeper than I'm willing to accept... but he will find someone one day. It's merely not meant to be me."
Where once they were near inseparable, recent times have seen a considerable amount of strain on the pair, especially after her telling him that there would never be the feelings he wished between them. She's incredibly thankful for his help with her son, but ultimately chooses to take as much of her own burden on herself as she can so he might find wings to fly. She does love him dearly, though.
FAMILY (NPC)
Bjorn Davrun, Son. (💞 ) - The Little Bear.
Character's Thoughts: "My precious little boy. He alone keeps me from weeping when I miss Areic so. In his eyes and his smile, I see my love... and he helps ease the pain I feel when we are apart."
Kiipa's first born child, Bjorn was a surprise and a blessing. After years of fear that she'd never bear a child, his birth has helped heal many doubts about herself that she held. While he carries his mother's ears and tail, his coloring is clearly Areic's... and the fact the boy is much larger than miqo'te children makes him blatantly the Highlander's boy.
Flidais Locte, Sister. ( ) - The Middle Daughter.
Character's Thoughts: "I was closer to her than my own mother, really. Flida never steered me wrong, and saw in me the possibilities that I could not. I miss her sorely."
The closest of friends between the Locte children, Kiipa and Flidais were nigh inseperable since the birth of the younger, which likely attributed to the jealousy shown by the youngest daughter years later. The two worked together in everything, and formed a team so tightly bound that they moved as if one in spirit and mind.
Nalii Locte, Sister. ( ) - The Youngest Sister.
Character's Thoughts: "I loved her because she was family, but if I were to be completely honest, we never got along. Something was never quite right in her mind, and it made things... difficult."
As the youngest daughter, Nalii had a considerable amount to live up to in comparison to her older sisters. While perhaps more clever than the both of them, and just as resourceful, Nalii chose to use her talents to prank instead of grow. When these pranks became lethal, the term 'catfight' never suited the relationship between them so well.
Tiloh'a Locte, Brother. ( ) - The Precious Boy.
Character's Thoughts: "In my son, I see so much of my brother. The Calamity tore my family apart, it's true... but it took from me a part of my heart that no one can hope to fill. Tiloh will always be the ache that no salve can heal."
As their mother's health began to dwindle after the birth of the boy, Kiipa bonded to him and strove to teach him all she could, hand-in-hand with Flidais. He was loved and cherished, spoiled as only a Miqo'te son would know. There isn't a day that passes that Kiipa doesn't believe herself to be responsible for his death, and the event is a core part of the nightmares she suffers from.
NON-FAMILY (PC)
Gen Quickpaw. ( $ ) - The Smirking Scoundrel
Character's Thoughts: "I'm not sure when he managed to change my mind, but change my mind he did. I'm thankful for all of his help and his patience, and I am glad to call him friend."
A curious enough development, neither one really knows how they got to the point they are from where they started. Despite this, the two get along more than well enough, alternating between a playful near-sibling rivalry, to stalwart support when the other needs.
Tikka Swift. ( $ ) - The Sugar Addict
Character's Thoughts: "How we met wasn't exactly ideal, but all things considered, she's a sweetheart who is down on herself far too often. Poor Gen's got his hands full with that one!"
There's really quite a bit that can be said about a friendship that begins while a child is being born, and most of those things are comical at best. While the sprightly explosion-happy Miqo'te is more a friend of Anton's than hers, Kiipa remains a devoted source of support for the girl when she requires it... which generally isn't often, but when Tikka's fears control her, the motherly Keeper is only too happy to talk her back to earth.
Jeros Redd. ( $ ) - Nifty Title
Character's Thoughts: "Our interactions are often friendly enough, but I do wish he'd not be so hard on himself. He's a good man, and good men are often the worst of critics on their own behavior. Also, I care little what he says – he's a handsome man, and deserving of the affection of a lady."
Kiipa, as a member of the Maelstrom, is technically beneath the man in rank. This shows little in their interactions aside from her mild deference to him in times of choice. Their friendship is a cordial one, and she cares dearly for the man whose health had been, for a long time, in her hands. Now, as he heals, she strives to see him grow past the fetters he's put upon himself.
Glioca Sargonnai. ( ) - The Silver Eclipse
Character's Thoughts: "We met through Erimmont, and perhaps a little through Katja... she's a friendly enough woman, and nice to discuss things with."
At one point, they were bound by their relationship with the same man. Time has changed that, but it has done little to the polite conversation the two share. Though not quite what most would consider friends, the two get along well enough.

OOC NOTES

OOC INFORMATION

Player Note
I expect a clear IC / OOC division in RP. Their feelings and my feelings are separate. I'm not opposed to friendships, but if an OOC relationship becomes stifling or uncomfortable, I won't hesitate to address the issue, or cut contact. Similarly, I hope that others are also as open in this regard as I am. I prefer clear lines of communication with whomever I'm RPing with, and those I'm RPing with should always feel free to send a /tell to clear up any questions.
Personal RP Limits
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask, and if I'm in the mood for it, I'll be the one to initiate.
I will play .

If an aspect of RP makes you uncomfortable in a scene we're playing, please send me a /tell, letting me know. Communication is very important, more important than potentially keeping immersion.
