And born with the desperate need to know everything. Rin is endlessly curious and exasperatingly nosy, scatterbrained but good-hearted. Just don't make her angry because she might channel that inquisitive energy into something destructive. Currently working as an Assessor at the Arcanist's guild in Limsa. Although most of her days are spent doing routine inspections and paperwork, her unassuming appearance, knack at reading people, and dogged determination have made her a surprisingly effective field agent - tracking runners down and going undercover to infiltrate the occasional smuggling ring are all in a day's work. APPEARANCE Tan skin, faint freckles and brown hair; she considers herself pretty plain for the most part. Look past the carefree demeanor and you might notice her eyes constantly evaluating her surroundings, taking in information and watching for patterns. Taller than her mother (to her delight and the former's anguish). She looks surprisingly sleep-deprived for someone who is constantly professing her great love for naps. Almost always seen smiling in amusement at some private joke, but lately she's been more withdrawn and pensive. PERSONALITY Cheerful. Perceptive. Determined. On the surface you couldn't find a more relaxed and happy-go-lucky soul, but sometimes she wonders if being constantly underestimated is starting to wear on her. When Rin has her eye on a goal, she will obsessively pursue it. More often that not, those goals hinge on ~*truth and justice*~ because if there's one thing she's inherited from her parents, it's a fierce dedication to righting wrongs and protecting the powerless. Despite this, the words "responsibility" and "commitment" terrify her. Deep down she's a budding leader, a cool head in a crisis and a calm voice on the battlefield, but the guilt and self-doubt that comes with it makes her keep up her childish, laid-back facade. Her tactical smarts come as a surprise to most, and for now she's keeping it that way. She's seen what a military life has done to people she loves. LIKES Exploring. When a trail of cargo inevitably leads her to Ul'dah at some point, her guild-mates know she'll be returning days late because there's just so much she hasn't seen yet and yes that detour through Hamon Holyfist's favorite bar was completely necessary. Books. She's always got one, or two, or maybe five on her person at all times. Water. Growing up in a fishing village, swimming feels as natural as breathing. People. While she would need more than a lifetime to research every topic that catches her fancy, Rin is foremost fascinated by people. People are the one puzzle that she can never quite solve, but that won't stop her from trying. Kharaqiq/Chess. Her favorite game to play with her father, who picked it up while wandering the steppes as a mercenary. If only there were more betting rings for strategic board games in Eorzea, she'd be making a killing off her airheaded reputation. DISLIKES Ignorance. Rin often clashes with the mindset in Gridania and Ishgard, whose xenophobia is understandable yet utterly strange to her worldview. Although she greatly admires Merlwyb's confidence as a leader, she strongly disagrees with her stance on the beastmen tribes. Feeling restless. She's constantly looking for the next obsession to carry her away because sometimes, stopping too long to confront her doubts and fears can throw her into a state of existential crises. Blind obedience. All leaders are fallible. Everyone has a choice to do what's right. Rin will never stop questioning those in power and "just following orders" is no excuse. Crafting. Actually, no one is sure if she's truly understanding what those people at the Rogue's guild are saying, but it seems less likely that she can fake it that well. Math. Sometimes the patterns fall into place just right, and when the messiness of people's motives becomes too much, the clear, precise, rightness of numbers is the anchor keeping her two feet on the ground. Reading people. Not only is she good at catching liars, but she always has an eye for the subtleties of her partners and friends. She can judge their strengths and weaknesses, what they fear, what they desire. Recognizing this is her main strength as a leader. A deceptively strong throwing arm. Tease her enough and you'll find that she'll immediately resort to hurling the nearest object at you instead of drawing on all her knowledge of arcanima. WEAKNESSES No sense of direction. Yeah, those days spent "exploring" Ul'dah are her usual cover for the fact that she couldn't figure out where the exit was. She has been known to wander into a dungeon that has 1 straight path and still somehow end up getting turned around backwards. Enclosed spaces. Her greatest fear, by far. Being trapped and feeling claustrophobic is the one thing that makes her truly panic. Self-doubt. She's as relaxed as can be, but only because she actively avoids things that put her confidence into question. She's terrified of making mistakes that could be costly, and has a massive guilt complex over things that couldn't remotely be her fault. WEAKNESS.
