General Information
Shin Kintsurugi is an Auri swordsman, philosopher, ronin of the late Asuna clan. He currently resides in The Goblet of Ul'dah although he's often found working the main desk as one of several Directors of their Free Company's estate, in the Mist.
Appearance
Shin is a tall, white haired Raen of tanned complexion and "mako green" eye color. His left eye is blind, faded white, of which he typically wears his signature skull eyepatch. The scars on his face are faint and can easily be mistaken for tribal markings.

Early Life
Childhood
Born under the name Yasuhiro Kobayashi, Shin was a shy child who was curious about the world, but easily frightened, regularly crying to his mother, Hana, who would console him with hugs and a pat on the head. His twin brother, Takeshi, being more outgoing, would occasionally take him and their younger sister, Hikari, on adventures. The three were inseparable until one day, an attack would wipe out the entire Asano clan, including the Kobayashi family. Yasuhiro was presumed dead until discovered by a young Gaius sas Baelsar and adopted as his ward. Blinded in his left eye as a result of the events of that day, Gaius had given him a skull eyepatch, saying it would give courage to those who would wear it.
Adolescence
Having enlisted in the Garlean military under Gaius' letter of recommendation, Yasuhiro climbed the ranks over the years, and was accepted into the early research stages of the Ultima Weapon intended to replicate the Allagan war machine's ability to absorb and manipulate aether, namely the power of the eikons. To facilitate this research, genome modification and additional physical augmentation was required in order for Yasuhiro to interface with and operate Ultima as a potential pilot candidate and to prepare him for anti-eikon combat, of which would eventually lead to the development of the Resonant super soldier project. The procedures were said to have a near guaranteed fatality rate, information that had been withheld from Nero tol Scaeva by Aulus mal Asina, however Yasuhiro survived through either luck or force of will.
During the recovery stages of his treatments Yasuhiro began to have echo-like visions and regained memories he never realized he'd had lost: that Aulus mal Asina was behind his family's murder, a coverup for a botched attempt to abduct him and his siblings for aetherical research and experimentation. Enraged, Yasuhiro broke out from the deepest levels of the Praetorium and, with newly enhanced speed and strength, was able to fight his way out single-handedly. Confronted by, now, Gaius van Baelsar, Yasuhiro would attack Gaius under the presumption that he was involved in Aulus' schemes, but the Legatus easily overpowered him. Claiming innocence, Gaius urged the young Raen to escape, insisting that he would take responsibility.
A small pursuit force would chase Yasuhiro throughout Thanalan and into The Black Shroud, but the sole surviving team lead, an augmented Takeshi Kobayashi, would report that he was defeated by Yashuhiro, wielding an obsidian blade, and that his entire squad was bisected in a single blow.
Adulthood
Having done freelance work for several years under a new identity, Shin Kintsurugi's quest for vengeance comes to an end during the siege of Ala Mhigo when he discovers that Aulus mal Asina had already been defeated by the Warrior of Light. Aulus, having survived the previous battle, pleads for mercy as the Au Ra materializes Zantetsuken before him. Shin removes his eyepatch, revealing his left eye to bear a red mark vaguely similar to that of a Resonant. An image of Odin appears alongside Shin, and Aulus is slain once and for all. From that day on, Shin's hair had changed to a silvery white color.
Aulus mal Asina: "You're one of them now, aren't you? A Warrior of Light? You'll spare me, won't you?"
Shin Kintsurugi: "Light? What is that? I am a Warrior...of Death!"
Recent Times
Stuck in the form of a horned Lalafell, Shin tracks down the location of the sword Zantetsuken. Grabbing the obsidian blade, the Odinforce manifests itself using Shin's Au Ra likeness. A heavily one-sided battle for dominance takes place within the Plainsfolk's mind as the Odinforce consumes him completely. With the support of his, now, wife and her Free Company arriving on scene, Shin overcomes the Odinforce and reclaims his lost aether, restoring his body while finally coming to understand that he's no longer alone. Although his body changed back to that of an Au Ra, his face appears different from before.
Shin confronts Takeshi, who had become infused with the aether of Susanoo and Ravana, while Gaius Baelsar and Estinien Wyrmblood carry out Operation Black Rose. Once home, Shin meditates, conjuring the Odinforce within his mind in order to settle an old matter with a newfound inner strength.
Shin: "The question of who is mightier remains. ODIN!"
Odin: "Wail as thy soul is bestrewn across the plains of Valhalla. RAIDEN!"
With a smirk, the Au Ra opens his eyes. His left eye no longer bearing the mark of a Proto-Resonant but in his right eye, the bright glow of blue steel.
