Etymology

Bodiford

The family name, Bodiford, is one of the oldest Hyur names of Eorzea. It was originally a name for a person who worked as a coppersmith or a dealer in baterie, which is a term for beaten copper or brassware. The surname, Bodiford, is possibly derived from the word bateor, meaning one who beats, a term which has been applied to a beater of cloth or fuller. The surname may also be a short form of the word orbatour, which means a beater of gold. Variations of the surname include: Batsford, Batesford, Batisford, Botsford, Botsforth, and many more.

History

The Bodiford ancestors came to Eorzea during the first great Hyur migratory wave. Given that their trade skills specialized in metalworking and smithing, they naturally settled in the city-state of Ul'dah, figuring the town would be their best chance of success given it's history of prominence and wealth. Adam's parents, following in the family business, were highly skilled and successful Goldsmith's. His great, great, great, great....etc grandfather, one of the founding members of the original Goldsmith's Guild.

When Kiyo was a young child her parents fled the wrath of the Garlean Empire and sought refuge in the city-state of Limsa Lominsa. Once wealthy nobles in their home city of Doma, her parents had now become reduced to mere commoners. As the Garlean army approached their city, there was no time to gather riches or possessions. They were forced to leave their family fortune behind taking only what they needed to make the long journey. Gridania was too humble and meager for their lifestyle, and they could no longer afford to live in the wealthy city of Ul'dah, so Limsa Lominsa seemed like the most logical place to try and make a new start.

Kiyo's father quickly became skilled as a Fisherman. Her mother, never having had to cook a day in her life, eventually became an excellent Culinarian. Needless to say, young Kiyo developed a fine appreciation for food and often assisted her Mom by running all over town trying to gather just the right ingredients for her signature dishes. Given her father's profession, she grew up mostly surrounded by filthy pirates and dirty scoundrels. Yet, as descendants of the Dawn Father, her parents always encouraged her to remain true to her Divine heritage. Despite their modest lifestyle, they still managed to ingrain a sense of nobility into their daughter.

Kiyo spent most of her educational years learning about the many disciplines of magic. Having witnessed firsthand the mass devastation and horror wrought upon her homeland by Magitek, she developed a strong desire to use the power of Aether to help heal and protect rather than destroy. Given her kind and gentle disposition, she also gained a love of nature and of all it's creatures.

Personality

As her name implies, Kiyo is as clean and pure on the inside as she is on the outside. She is a very spiritual person who has high standards when it comes to morality. Many might consider her views on life to be more traditional or conservative, but her compassionate nature prevents her from looking down on those who might believe or act differently. Be that as it may, she prefers to surround herself with positive influences who would lift her up rather than try to bring her down.

Her mind is as bright as the glow from her eyes. At this phase in her life she is focused on learning and gaining all the knowledge and skills she can, which doesn't leave much time for socializing. Your first impression of her might be that she is shy or self-absorbed (you'd be very lucky if you get little more than a smile or nod). However, that is not the case. She is just very focused on her goals and accomplishing her mission.

Kiyo considers herself to be an "Elect Lady" who stands for truth and righteousness. Her hope is that others will see her light and example and join her on her quest to defeat evil and tyranny.

Career Goals

An ambitious young lass, Kiyo promised herself at an early age that one day she would grow up to become an Adventurer and find a way to provide a better life for her family. While her ultimate aspiration is to become a White Mage, she loves learning and hopes to one-day master all of the trades. She is currently studying Arcanism and is working towards becoming a Summoner.
