History

The Family (Before 1.xx events)

Year 1551 of the Sixth Astral Era

It began with Flynn's father on a small border nation on the eastern continent of Othard, otherwise known as Doma. Hamuro; a self-doubting samurai warrior. With the war with Garlemald slowly reaching the boarders, Hamuro fled the nation by boat to escape in hopes of finding a better life elsewhere, knowing he had brought shame to his nation. If he were to return one day, he would be killed. His travels eventually lead him to a final stop on the shores of Gyr Abania, specifically Ala Mhigo. To fit in with their society, Hamuro supported the Ala Mhigan militia and learned the trade of a lancer. It was in one of the training guilds where a Highlander woman, Maren Rosenberg, saw something in the man that she had not seen for a long time; hope in their fight against the Empire. The two became partners on the field, and eventually lovers.

Year 1556 of the Sixth Astral Era

A few years passed and the Empire eventually conquered Doma. Flynn was also born and Maren gave up her position to raise him. Hamuro would often visit in what time he could spare.

Year 1557 of the Sixth Astral Era

The Garlean Empire had taken over Ala Mhigo, taking advantage of the nation's internal conflicts. Hamuro stayed behind to regain what honour he could and to continue fighting the Empire with the resistance as Maren was forced to flee in hopes of raising Flynn out of danger. She and many other refugees arrived at Ul'dah after their long journey.

Growing up in Ul'dah was not easy for Flynn as there was little money for them to earn. By the time he turned eight years old, his mother fell ill to a sickness spread within the streets. Over time it consumed her, causing her death.

Flynn was alone until he met two other children, Lorric Wright and M'risha Eliozh, who caught Flynn stealing food from the markets. The three became inseparable and created their own adventures. Flynn was later adopted by a retired lalafell Gladiator named Pepepoki and trained him to defend himself using melee weapons and archery.

Before the Calamity (Patch 1.xx series)

Year 1572 of the Sixth Astral Era

With the Dalamud moon hovering in plain sight, Pepepoki and Flynn helped defend Ul'dah against monsters and Garleans alike. When Pepepoki became wounded in battle, Flynn took care of him at their home and withdrew from the final battle at Carteneau.

Year 2 of the Seventh Umbral Era

At the age of 18, two years after the Calamity, Flynn sought to work as a mercenary and first joined up with the Brass Blades. He left as soon as he saw their corruption, then spent the next few years working for the Adventurers' Guild.

A Realm Reborn (Patch 2.xx series)

Year 5 of the Seventh Umbral Era / Year 0 of the Seventh Astral Era

Five years after the calamity, Flynn receives a dream of falling meteors raining from the sky. Pepepoki confirmed to Flynn that he had been gifted with the Echo and should put it to good use. He encouraged Flynn to meet up with Lorric and M'risha to go on their own real adventure.

After a few months, M'risha disappeared and Lorric went out to search for her. Flynn was alone again until he joined the Travellers Guild where he met an archer and rogue, Mackenzie Hawk, who later fell in love. He also discovered his real father, Hamuro, was still alive and had been locked up in Ul'dah's dungeon for many years. His father was accused of conspiring with the Empire, having been caught in possession of an Imperial uniform. He reassured Flynn that he wasn't a spy and was part of the Ala Mhigan Resistance. Flynn was unable to have him released, and instead he visited his father once every few months.

During one of his visits, Flynn unwillingly caught a glimpse of his father's past through the Echo's power. Fearing what he saw, Flynn was eager to learn how to better protect Mackenzie from harm. He began training as a Free Paladin under the guide of a Sultansworn Captain, Vandill Warblade.

After the Travellers Guild disbanded, Flynn and Mack joined other Free Companies until they could find a home and family to settle in with. They eventually joined Crystalline, a company that places an emphasis on doing good work for others. Flynn and Mack became Eternally Bonded and remained adventurers. Pepepoki sadly passed away due to natural causes around this time, but had left Flynn his fortune he earned from his Gladiator days.

Heavensward (Patch 3.xx series)

Having saved up enough gil, Flynn and Mack buy a house in The Mist and move out of their Free Company's chambers. Flynn also had enough to build a smaller house next to their main one and transformed it into a tavern, The Nagging Wife.

Mack was wounded on a job that caused the loss of her right eye. This forced them both into a depressive state as Mack needs her eyes to use her bow, and Flynn blamed himself for not being there to protect her. For the next six months they trained together in the Dravanian Forelands.

With the attack on Baelsar's Wall catching Eorzea's attention, a small resistance cell quietly managed to break Hamuro out of Ul'dah's prison. Flynn was arrested by the Brass Blades on suspicion of helping Hamuro's escape, but with no solid evidence to confirm this, he was allowed to walk free.

When he returned home, he found a note from his father telling him that he'd left to fight with the Resistance in Ala Mhigo to regain the honour he lost, and to find him if he wished to learn the skills of a Samurai. However, if Hamuro returned to his homeland, he would gladly accept death from his fellow men.
