Clad in heavy armour and rarely found without his axe, the Ala Mhigan known as Heidrek Warsong would introduce himself as a simple pilgrim. Spending his formative years in refugee camps, he was deeply shaken by the anger of his peers. Unable to confront his fear, Heidrek ran away and vowed to find the true meaning behind his heritage. Initially struggling to get by as a nomad, the Highlander's fortunes as a sellsword and bodyguard improved in the wake of the Calamity. As of a few months ago he ended the self-imposed pilgrimage and returned to civilization. Embracing Thanalan for the first time in years, he entered the popular Grindstone tournament on a whim. Despite not winning, this event started a chain of events that led him to adopt a young Miqo'te girl as his daughter. The girl, named Leih Ruhn, surprised Heidrek with her kindness and selflessness. Determined to protect her from a cruel world, Heidrek is slowly accepting that Rhalgr brought him back to society for a reason. He is currently spending most of his days around Ul'Dah, seeking to free Leih from her circumstances and help her realize a dream of traveling the world. Eyes: Green. It would be easy to glance over his stern features and mistake him for another dour Ala Mhigan. This assumption is only furthered by the tendency to get lost in thought while keeping his face passively uninterested. He is rarely found without black warpaint spread across his face in a rough 'X' shape. Blessed with broad shoulders and an athletic physique, years of selective fighting and an inconsistent diet have left Heidrek with a body lacking the significant muscle mass usually attributed to Highlanders. Heidrek's voice is youthful and prone to bouts of enthusiasm. He wears his heart on his sleeve and has a long distance relationship with the concept of subtlety. He will gladly stand up and take action without need of material rewards or recognition. ■ Started at the bottom...: Living first as a refugee and then choosing the path of a nomad has left Heidrek free of the fear that comes with an attachment to material goods and wealth. ■ The Path of the Pilgrim: The Twelve challenge us in different ways and Heidrek's own experience as a self-styled pilgrim have left him sympathetic to the burdens others bear. While never seeking to coddle; the Highlander is happy to help shoulder the load to help others overcome their problems. Weaknesses ■ The Warsong: Heidrek's heritage and martial training have engendered in him a need for violent release. Long periods of downtime without conflict will begin to leave him agitated. This feeling will only increase in severity until he is compelled to find trouble. ■ Undiplomatic: Years of traveling spent largely in contemplative solitude don't help one in delicate situations. Heidrek's enthusiastic and blunt attitudes are ill-suited for delicate situations at best and act as a powder keg at worst. ■ Hit the Road, Jack: Reintegration into society is easier said than done and the habits of a nomad are not so easily forgotten. It's tough to get invested in the greater community when your first impulse is to just leave and let Rhalgr sort it out. Quirks ■ Heidrek's morning ritual involves praying to Rhalgr while applying his war paint. While he is undergoing this process he's completely tuned out to the world around him. ■ As a result of years living life on the lam, Heidrek is a big eater and will happily eat himself sick if given the opportunity. Flaws ■ The Cycle Continues: Heidrek ran away from a people that scared him with their cries for violent retribution. After ten years of searching for a different answer, Heidrek has returned to the world as a man who makes his living off violence with the religious fervor to back it up. The Ballad of Heidrek Warsong (Spring 2016) What God Wants, Part 1 (Status: Ongoing) (Who is Involved: Heidrek Warsong, Leih Ruhn) Heidrek Warsong ends his self-imposed pilgrimage and returns to Thanalan for the first time in years. He overhears about a weekly tournament called the Grindstone and enters. Despite not winning, he enjoys the experience greatly. While conversing with the other entrants he encounters a Miqo'te girl named Leih Ruhn whose life circumstances reminded him of his own. Compelled to safeguard her from an uncaring world, Heidrek reluctantly accepts that Rhalgr had brought him back to civilization for a reason and sets about reintegrating himself into society.
