General

Hyuponia Lunamaesta is a dishonorably discharged member of the Maelstrom, and orphaned former ward of the Garlean occupied Ala Mhigo. From an eary age, Hyuponia had been exposed to the cruelty and indoctrination of the Empire. Despite this, he is a self stylized hopeful realist, with a generally relaxed approach to both his casual dealings and problems. He is possessed of an almost singular desire to preserve nature and the life it nourishes, and is fiercely defensive of those he considers family. Hyuponia can be seen as a fairly amiable individual if not a little awkward, though subconsciously this all serves to hide the festering wounds of an emotionally turbulent and angry youth.

As of late, Hyuponia can be found joint managing the "Merry Moon" diner and inn; an establishment his wife Hesperia converted their home into in the Lavender Beds. When abroad, Hyuponia will typically be found in the guise of a Scholar, working on maintaining a burgeoning bestiary of Fiends and flora. When he is at home however, he will often be found in the habit of the White Mage, performing his duties as a Conjurer to those that require succor within the Twelveswood.

Appearance

Hyuponia is a rather tall Midlander, owing in large part to his heritage. Standing at an even six feet, with a swimmer's build of well toned muscle, this gives him an almost gangly and scrawny silhouette when clothed. His eyes are an intelligent and aggressive soul piercing red. While sharp and intimidating on their own, they are however dulled significantly by his rounded, nearly effeminate face and bone structure. If not for his height, he could almost be described as boyish. Hyuponia's hair can be typically seen as a deep shade of Gysahl green, but this is not in fact natural: Hyuponia's real hair color is a bright shock of blonde, which he carefully dyes and maintains this particular hue. If one were to see him stripped of clothing, they would find most of his body a tapestry of scars of various age and type, and traditional leather armor indicative of his home as subligar. While most of the scars would be Fiend made, there are some instances of weapon inflicted wounds. The most prominent of these would be quite fresh as well: A long stripe of somewhat bubbling pink in a clean laceration from his left hip to right shoulder blade.

Combat

General

Hyuponia is an extraordinarily gifted Conjurer, who's ability to commune with and pacify the Elementals rivals that of, and even overshadows, most experienced Speakers. As a result, he was eventually led by them to the discovery of a White Mage's Soul Stone, and the subsequent burden of responsibilities placed upon him as such. Hyuponia draws upon what Aether is granted to him by the Elementals to supplant both his Conjury and Thaumaturgy, as his own Aetheric reserves are lower than most.

When having to travel outside of the Twelveswood, and life is not sufficient enough to maintain the power of his spells, Hyuponia falls back upon Arcanism to defend himself as a Scholar. When removed of his foci, Hyuponia has a respectable amount of physical strength and hand-to-hand ability afforded to him from his training and experiences in the Maelstrom. He is rather quick to be overwhelmed by more capable fighters, however. This includes even most practicing lower ability Pugilists. He will likely employ this in tandem with dirty tricks like poison however, and the inclusion of an eight inch long Kris dagger strapped to his right hip beneath his clothing.

In most instances of combat scenarios, Hyuponia is relatively calm and collected in the face of adversity. He only chooses to fight when absolutely necessary, and generally in a pragmatic and underhanded way. Hyuponia is not above stabbing a man in the back to ensure his, or another's safety. Nor is he adverse to making attempts at preemptively and viciously resolving assumed conflicts before they start.

Family

Hesperia Lunamaesta - Hyuponia's adoptive sister and best friend since five years of age when taken in. The two are nearly inseparable, with Hesperia leading many of their joint antics and Hyuponia on collateral damage control. Hyuponia acts as a buffer to Hesperia's more aggressive nature, often stepping in to calm her and act as a voice of reason when her ire is drawn. Being an adopted sibling, Hyuponia never made a truly familial bond with Hesperia, and as a result their natural chemistry had driven a rift of sexual tension between the two for years. The first instance of succumbing to this caused the conception of Zorya, of who's fatherhood they had attempted to keep largely a secret from their family. It is only recently that the two accepted their feelings for one another and joined in marriage, acknowledging what they had felt inevitable for far too long.
Zorya Bridin-Lunamaesta - Hyuponia and Hesperia's anemic daughter of seven. Hyuponia is extremely doting upon his child, caving to many of her requests and manipulations, no matter how unsubtle they may be. He is fiercely defensive of her, going so far as to threaten or even enact open assault upon whomsoever threatens her well being. This is in and of itself an Achilles Heel of his. For her seventh Namesday, Hyuponia gifted her a Mammet doll to act as both toy and pseudo sister designated 'Mariella," which he had been constructing in secret for some years in advance. She is rarely seen without it, or their pet Behemoth cub Alexandros.
Stella Bridin - Matriarch of the Bridins, successful lounge singer, and Hyuponia's adoptive mother. Stella is a woman driven by results, and puts her children through their paces to succeed. While somewhat overbearing and controlling in this regard, it works well for Hyuponia who latches onto what education opportunities come his way with his interests. Like much of his family, Hyuponia will do almost anything for his mother without question, though he is often dubious of her intentions. Hyuponia is currently on rocky ground with Stella on account of her choice to succumb to a disease that will first take her ability to sing, and then her life; one she was born with and kept secret from her children for years. He is torn between her wishes, and his desire to protect his mother, however misguided his intentions may be.

Friends

Zanin Briggs - The primary caregiver for Hyuponia's daughter and wife. Zanin has on multiple occasions helped the man and his family, including saving his very own life from a threatening injury. Hyuponia feels indebted to Zanin, and regards him with a certain level of kinship often reserved for those particularly close to him. Lately, Hyuponia and his wife accept odd jobs from Zanin's company through him to help meet their demanding needs.

Enemies

Val Nunh/Faye Covington - You are probably having a bad time when you set your employer's partner and love interest on fire the second day on your new job. You are definitely having a bad time when they not only survive, but proceed to almost kill YOU instead. Such is the relationship between Hyuponia and Val, who's quarrel in his eyes began the moment the Miqo'te assaulted his best friend and now lover Hesperia. After threatening the life of his child, being stabbed to near death, and then detained and humiliated further at the hands of his benefactors...Hyuponia had developed an almost irrational hatred and obsession for the man. Though his appetite for vengeance for both his and Faye Covington's perceived wrong-doing has been stymied as of late by the arrival of his second daughter into the world, the old grudge lingers still...Waiting, ever hungry.

History/Timeline

Early Years

Hyuponia, birth given name Hyutt Moonkiln, was born in the year 1555 of the Sixth Astral Era to mother Anelane Cadence, and father Jarvis Moonkiln. Shortly after his arrival, Hyuponia's parents died in the revolt against King Theodorac, leaving him and older brother Arcadius Moonkiln orphaned. Having no immediately known extended family, the two were taken into the care of the newly come Garlean Empire as wards of the state. Five years pass, and in this time Hyuponia is subjected to various cruelties in his upbringing surrounding the growing conflicts between his countrymen and their instilled ideals and the oppressive foreign interests of the Empire. Arcadius joins the growing Ala Mhigan resistance at eighteen years of age, and 'kidnaps' Hyuponia in disguise, bringing him to Little Ala Mhigo during the first wave of the refugee movement. Feeling unable to fight with his presence and unwilling to raise his younger brother himself, Arcadius leaves Hyuponia in the care of his fellow countrymen to rejoin the battle. Arcadius is never seen by his brother again. Completely isolated, and with no real identity of his own, Hyuponia sheds his birth name for the more whimsical moniker he now bears.--A quiet and childlike homage to the parents he had never known.

Rumors

Common Rumors

  • "Hyuponia? Yeah, there's a White Mage of that description who works a lot out of the Lavender Beds. Friendly guy. Doesn't charge you anything if you need healing."
  • "He said he was looking for employees for a family diner he and his wife was starting when he introduced himself. He seems starved for the help."
  • "It's no secret he and his wife rut like godsdamn boars. Try not to be in the neighborhood if they're planning on staying the night."

Moderate Rumors

  • "He always looks kind of tired when you mention his eldest daughter. With the way he talks, she's his pride and joy. So why the long face?"
  • "He's been seen a lot with his family going to that free clinic run by Zanin Briggs. Wonder what's wrong with them?"
  • "He's got a big mansion, a family of four, and his business doesn't seem to be too successful. Where then, is he getting all the coin to furnish this?"

Rare Rumors

  • "Hyuponia Lunamaesta? They say some call him the 'Demon of Nature'. That the boy's got the Greenwrath in him, especially for Garleans and folk what disturb the Twelveswood. Mention the Empire around him, you'll see the glint in his eye. The look of murderous intent.."
  • "Aye, I know 'im. Bastard was among our ranks during a skirmish with Castrum Occidens. Goddamn fool charged an entire company of Garleans after we gave him orders to fall back and tend to the wounded. I don't give a mummer's fart as to whether or not he thought it was worth it, either. He may as well have just killed our friends with his own two hands."
  • "There's this green haired man always creeping about Ul'dah late at night. He for all the world looks like the easiest bleedin' target in the streets. Come trouble though, he just vanishes. Not long after, strange things start happening.."
