Character

General

Given her mother's name of Tahlu, a woman she never had the chance to meet, so instead adopting her father's name as her surname on her departure from her home tribe, Khoba Lhyr is a cheerful, good-humored conjurer fresh out of the green cradle of the Shroud. What she lacks in experience she makes up for in eagerness, and has a keen desire to see what the wide world has to offer the intrepid or foolish wanderer. Unexpectedly and jubilantly smitten with a Wildwood met my chance, the oft alone-but-not-lonely miqo'te is learning the joys that come with pacing the path alongside another. An enthusiastic student and sometimes unlikely teacher, Khoba is keen to indulge and share in the natural pleasures of life, usually in the form of long midday naps and romps in dirt or grass.

Appearance

Naturally dusky-skinned, with a small but well-built frame; 4 fulms, 11 ilms tall and weighing 111 ponze. Khoba is short but not lacking in strength, balancing some feminine curves with dense muscle. Every ilm of her othrwise petite form is shaped with lean, dense muscle that points at a very physical life, with her weight centered low on wider hips and thighs below a more modest chest. 'Stocky' and 'sturdy' are her descriptors of choice, though she can claim at least some womanly charm in her physique.

Her eyes are honey-orange in color and paired with the large, permanently rounded pupils of her race. Pale gold hair with marginally lighter, sun-bleached ends is generally inexpertly trimmed and a bit on the messy side. She almost always sports long blunt bangs, and the hair framing her freckled face is left longer than the back, though often plaited or tied into bundles. Like all miqo'te she bears feline ears and a tassel-ended tail covered in fur the same shades as her hair. Her teeth are sharper than other hominid races, most notably on canines an bicuspids. Her skin is laced with myriad little scars and a generous coat of freckles, most prominent along her shoulders, back and hips.

Attire of choice is usually something simple, light, and not overly restrictive of motion. While appreciative of the workmanship, she tends to shun anything too formal or pretty, knowing she will inevitably ruin it.

Notable Markings:

  • A scar bisects her right eyebrow and trails onto her cheek below
  • Sole of her right foot bares a faint tattoo of a dandelion puff
  • Standard faint miqo'te striping along her cheekbones, the nape of her neck
  • So many freckles

Personality

Always looking to share a grin.

At first, second, and tenth glance Khoba seems an easy read; relaxed, playful, friendly, and irreverent. Rarely without a smile and a quip, the Keeper is nearly an inexhaustible fount of amiability and good-humor. Beneath the initial bright veneer of open friendliness (oft crossing the line into flirtiness) and joking she greets the world with, Khoba remains much the same though a bit less rampantly and inexhaustibly cheerful. She is quite capable of seriousness and calm, and keenly enjoys inaction as deeply as she does action; a time and place for each. As a firm believer that life is to be enjoyed, she will take it upon herself to ensure the smiles or laughter of those around her. There are few lengths she would not go to for the sake of humor and general cheer. Moments of introspection or reflection are saved for privacy, and even then are few and far between. With her feet planted and her eyes ahead, Khoba does not spend much time looking behind her, and is happier for it.

Humor, sarcasm, and easy banter are staples of her socialization and thought processes, and the miqo'te at times can seem hardly able to make it two sentences without some joke or raillery. A jovial habit developed by choice, in company Khoba perpetually seeks to retain and share a sense of ease and friendly comfort. Quick to initiate or reciprocate physical contact, the Keeper enjoys being close to others in the most basic sense of the word.

Though she makes friends readily enough, Khoba does not quickly nor easily adopt others into close confidence nor camaraderie. Raised of a small, highly traditional Keeper tribe in the Shroud, the largely nomadic and hermetic upbringing of her most formative years simply has her accustomed to constant flux and inconsistent company. Quite happy enough alone or with fair-weather friends and passing acquaintances, Khoba may simply lack the more basic social skills of standard culture to cultivate a strong or lasting web of companionship. Those she comes to truly care for, however, are assured unyielding loyalty and a lifetime of affectionate teasing.

Few things raise her ire, but she will not hesitate to make her anger obviously known in a moment of temper. She does not seek conflict but neither will she shy away from it when a solution becomes necessary. Personal upset and sadness are handled more discreetly, tucked away behind more smiles until a moment of privacy. Khoba holds her personal feelings and sentiments close, very rarely and very unwillingly sharing them with any others. Most attempts to glean personal information from the Keeper will be deflected with humor, or likely given a different and clearly fabricated answer at each asking.

Beneath her nonchalance and easygoing nature, the conjurer may be a surprisingly steady individual, unwavering in her honesty and steadfast in her word. She knows herself to be prone to selfishness and possessiveness by nature or nurture or some mix of the two, and so keeps her personal possessions few but highly regarded. Constant travel makes such a thing easy, though, and if asked she will claim not to feel as though she is at all lacking.

Khoba likes to speak and to listen, to learn and to see and to try everything for herself. Very fond of trees. Her manners are often a bit rough or unrefined in familiar company. A perhaps surprising trait, Khoba has a deep well of patience that rarely runs dry, with a handful of immediately obvious exceptions.

Combat

ScrappyKhoba.png
RoughKhoba.png

On top of a childhood well-educated in every aspect of survival, Khoba is a skilled conjurer, passable healer, and has undergone a variety of tutelage in pugilism and unarmed combat. In a fight or spar she is more likely to rely first on her physical ability, but will weave elemental conjury into her actions as needed. Her conjurer's staff is more a focus than a weapon, but in a pinch she will not hesitate to wield it physically.

Despite identifying herself as a conjurer to others, Khoba can take and give more than a few good hits. Though short in stature the miqo'te is physically quite capable and possesses what might eb a surprising physical strength for someone barely five fulms tall, though a simple advantage of size in an opponent will have her needing rely on agility or acrobatics.

Khoba does not actively seek combat in her day-to-day life but neither will she shy away from the potential. She enjoys physical spars and training, and will not shy from using violence as a tool for a person or cause she cares for.

Occupation, Skills, and Hobbies

Khoba is, simply, a traveling conjurer. Though she can often be seen keeping semi-consistent company and emplyment, the curious will be unable to find any official documentation tying her to any one organization; her allegiance seems to lie only in personal bonds and having enough gil to rent a stable now and then to hide her chocobo in during storms. Despite being a healer by definition, Khoba is far more certain of her talents in the elemental end of the conjury pool than she is with healing, so far as to even shy away from requests when there is another healer or medic available. What little gil she requires is made through freelance contracts or, more frequently, hunting and selling the useable spoils. In her much-adored free time, Khoba enjoys rest, relaxation, and easy company above most things. Grooming her chocobo is a perhaps unexpected hobby, and though the Keeper is often dusty or downright dirty from her activities or occupation, her bird is very rarely not preened and polished. Simple play, of most any sort, is also keenly enjoyed and sought, although not everyone seems eager on joining her games.

Relationships

Alphabetical by surname.

Mated/Lovers/Dating     Romantic Interest/Crush/Affectionate     Sexual Desire     Platonic/Familial Love

    Friendly     Neutral     Negative

  • Reinard Ackerman- A hyuran doctor and medic. Khoba has, accidentally, found it perhaps a bit too easy to share personal thoughts with the charming doctor she would normally leave unvoiced and his willingness for frank conversation often leaves her thirsting for more time keeping his company. Being asked a rather unexpected favor had only made her more curious and amenable to the man, eager to see what sort of fun (or trouble) the dashing 'doctor' might bring her direction. That trouble recently manifested in true example of the old adage about good friends helping one move bodies, with Khoba almost touched to be trusted enough not to be chased off. She finds herself growing a bit protective of the hyur with his evident talent for placing himself harm's way, and his stubborn willingness to confront said harm.
  • Rhela Aliapoh- A fellow female Keeper and conjurer out of the Shroud, Khoba has a great deal of respect for Rhela despite their relatively new acquaintanceship. Having good-natured teasing aimed in her own direction for once has been an embarrassing and enjoyable development for Khoba, as Rhela is one of the few who has been able to craft a barb or joke to actually earn an honest reaction.
  • Leo Arkwright- Possessed of a steady head and a usually sunny disposition, Khoba has enjoyed an easy, if quiet, rapport with Leo since their first meeting. Khoba keeps a very fine opinion of the man, endeared by his loyalty to Emilienoix and Leo's evident care for his own miqo'te companion, and has found him to be just as stalwart and steady in their own interactions. With Leo, Khoba thinks she might have found a potential friend with which to appreciate the finer, and stupider, points of comedy.
  • Kodaro Ba'rococo- Though evidently a mutual acquaintance to more than a couple of her friends, Khoba met Kodaro properly through a shared guild. It has not taken long for Khoba to decide she quite likes the Seeker, sharing common ground in amiable cheerfulness and an enjoyment for sparring. Training spars turned snowball fights have only endeared him further to Khoba, who very much values anyone willing to take time for fun in an otherwise over-serious world. Ko has consistently proven himself to be fantastic company, more than willing to tease and play and scrap, and is quickly becoming one of Khoba's favorite persons upon which to force her company.
  • Emilienoix Bellegarde: Khoba cares for this charming elezen thief deeply, though often expresses the sentiment in less profound and pretty ways than what may be deserved. Her heart has found it's way into Emil's pocket and she does not have the skill to retrieve it, despite the uncertainties and confusion that seem keen to steadily arise on their path. Current occurrences have Emil making forays into Ishgardian territory to make contact with a resident House; Khoba is not happy about the arrangement, but there are few lengths she would not go to for a loved one. The long stretches of time apart from the elezen strain Khoba's sense of well-being a bit more than she will ever admit, but she distracts herself well enough with sleep, company, and lengthy bouts of travel.
  • Talan Dracht- A hyur fellow met on a contracted run of their shared freelance guild, Pathfinders. Evidently earnest and committed, it did not take long for Khoba to take advantage of the lancer's innocent optimism and convince him she had plans to kidnap a local thaumaturge to heat a personal, artificial hot-spring. Needless to say, Khoba finds Talan quite amusing and, given the opportunity, will likely continue abusing his naivete. Talan recently has come under suspicion from their shared comrades due to (what Khoba believes to be) circumstances beyond his control, and Khoba has all but promised ill-will to those who doubt or would intend to harm him.
  • Eddard Holt- Khoba had thought Eddard much too serious, and spent much of her time interacting with the hyur trying to brute force a bit of levity into his life. Many moons in his company had the Keeper quite fond of the man, and very appreciative of him though she never felt at liberty to admit as much, being quite sure the sentiment was unwelcome and inappropriate. With the notice that she may have been just a bit too keen on his person and a bristly last encounter, Khoba has stoically avoided further contact and company. She has shown she will answer a call when needed, but prefers to maintain her self-imposed communications embargo. A touchy topic.
  • Syf Kha- The first Au Ra Khoba met, Syf has certainly swayed Khoba to a tentative liking of the race. She appreciates Syf's seemingly unerring honesty and their common ground in appreciating the value of play and optimism in life. Khoba is beginning to develop a bit of a familial view on this Xaela after an unexpectedly candid chat whilst repairing walls in the guildhome basement. She has not seen the little Xaela in some weeks, and misses her impromptu tribemate more than she would have guessed.
  • Kikira Kira- A friend of friends, met on a journey through Coerthas. This proper lalafellin woman is entirely too much fun to tease, in Khoba's humble opinion. Small in stature but with a heart quite a bit larger than most, Khoba may admit, if pressed, to a burgeoning protective streak of the little lady, a bit too aware of what the world's teeth can do to the kind-hearted.
  • Kinmune (Chocobo-NPC)- Khoba's chocobo, of plain stock and decidedly un-extraordinary in nearly every way. To Khoba, though, he is the finest travel companion she could wish for, and she considers the bird dear as family. She takes fastidious care of the chocobo, seeing his feathers, beak, and claws are always well-cleaned and polished. Her loyal steed in every stereotypically romantic sense of the term.
  • Kyrio Lamansque- Khoba took an immediate and almost reflexive liking to her fellow Moon Keeper, endeared and perhaps a bit concerned by the snippets of his history that were shared. They share a sense of lax humor and easy rapport which has grown into mutual, and perhaps instinctual, respect and affection. Khoba considers the male to be one of her closest friends, as well as her tutor in her forays into pugilism. His budding courtship of another has caused Khoba to step back a bit, wary of causing waves in a relationship, but she will always have time and space for Kyrio.
  • Valrh'iq Mirkhan: A Keeper male met briefly in Thanalan, and Khoba has a lingering suspicion she's met the male before, and an even more worrisome suspicion he may be distant family. Due to the poor relationship with and manner of departure from her home tribe, she is wary of Valrh'iq's sudden presence so near what she considers her new home territory.
  • Vesna Novaar: One of the first female miqo'te Khoba could admit a definite and unbiased fondness for after unpleasant past experiences. Vesna's seemingly perfunctory honesty is deeply, if quietly, appreciated (and makes Khoba feel just a bit guilty for her own habit of deflecting), and her easiness with care and smiles even more-so. There is a steadiness and reliability in this violet-haired miqo'te that often makes Khoba stand a bit taller in unconscious imitation. While there is clearly more to Miss Vesna than Khoba is privy to, the Keeper has never been one to mind when people wish to keep their secrets secret and would fight tooth and nail to defend her and her secrets if needed.
  • Lhyr'a Rhoshan(NPC): Khoba's father, a city-born Keeper who adopted the tribal lifestyle to live with Khoba's mother, despite the unabashed disdain of the clan's Matriarch. A childhood of watching her father need duck his head and hold his tongue to retain his place, even on the fringes, of their clan has made Khoba intensely protective of her father. They have shared an easy and close bond all their lives, and even in her wanderings Khoba never fails to send letters and trinkets home.
  • Alair Ryder- Khoba made the arguable mistake of asking Alair for directions on her first (and so far only) solo visit to Limsa Lominsa. Following his directions led her into a dead-end and a waiting pack of highwaymen, and Alair reappeared only to offer intervening if Khoba paid a protection fee. The entire shady deal crumbled on all sides when Khoba threw her gil pouch into the sea, and after a short scuffle she and Alair parted ways when they both proved quite capable of harming one another. Despite running into the man again at the Coffer and Coffin and being advised they both forgive and forget, Khoba is likely not to punch the man on sight anymore, but is yet malms away from trusting him.
  • Riahm Tahlu(NPC)- Her grandmother and the Tahlu clan Matriarch. Khoba learned much under Rahm's tutelage as she grew, though learned to both respect and detest the woman. They share pride and stubborness in spades, and Rahm's rigidity opposed to Khoba's lax nature rarely let the two see eye to eye. Khoba has not seen her grandmother since the day she left the clan grounds at the age of fifteen, and does not wish to.
  • Zeean Wraithor- A gladiator Khoba met during a foray into Ul'dah. Though they seem to share little in the way of experience and lifestyle, Khoba is uncommonly fond of the man. She has a keen interest in helping him enjoy the world and greet it honestly, and has found she learns much from their simple conversation. Zeean is the first person Khoba seeks when she is troubled enough to wish outside aid, trusting the older miqo'tes advice as an apparent Thanlan-based substitute for her distantly located father. Zeean's unwavering patience with the younger Keeper have only endeared her further to the man, and despite the gap in their years and experience Khoba has developed a definite protective streak on his behalf.

  • "Sometimes I think she tries to make me angry, twisting my words into something bad. I don't understand why she laughs at me so much, but I am glad there is somebody else in this world that still remembers to play and have fun." - Syf Kha

History/Timeline

Born of a Matriarch's daughter and a city-born male, Khoba was raised through adolescence in a nomadic, traditional Keeper tribe. She lost her mother when she was too young to even remember so much as her face, and was raised by a father content to live on the fringes of a female-dominant society to have a hand in the rearing of his only child. After years struggling to reconcile her own place and sense of self with the mixed messages received from her doting but mistreated father and the stricter, harsher teachings of her aunts and grandmother, Khoba finally made her dislike of the strict matriarchy be known at age fifteen. Coming to blows with the tribal leader, Khoba assured her allowance to leave with her father when he was to be dismissed following her maturity. The two made the short immigration to Gridania, where her father Lhyr'a easily integrated back into urban society. Khoba, despite her stubborn attempts, struggled to mesh so easily, unnerved by everything from walls to shoes to normal beds and the constant press of so many people and walls. Conjury proved a fine distraction and one she could almost claim a talent for, and in the halls of the conjurer's guild Khoba found something to enjoy.

Though it took years to solidify the idea of Gridania specifically being home rather than the more encompassing sprawl of the Shroud, Khoba now has an undeniable fondness of the city even if she still prefers more open spaces. Having successfully completed her studies with the guild, the Keeper left her father and their new home nearly a full cycle of moons ago, and is again playing at the life of a contented nomad. Simply wishing to see what the wider world has to offer, she wanders wherever seems to catch her interest- often chasing landmarks or stories heard from others. Ul'dah has proven to be the most pivotal landmark on her haphazard path, where she happened one evening to catch the attention of one self-proclaimed gentleman-scoundrel, Emilienoix Bellegarde. Amiably declining his initial invitation to share an inn room on their first meeting, subsequent encounters struck up a friendship that eventually stumbled into the nearest thing to a romantic pursuit Khoba's undertaken.

Quite happy with the unexpected detours and growing pool of companions Thanalan has offered, Khoba lingers in and about the arid plains, though she frequently wanders off without much warning, indulging her wanderlust and straying wherever her feet may find.

Recently, Emil has received correspondence from supposed family in Ishgard. Khoba, along with Vesna Novaar and Leo Arkwright, have agreed to make a cautious exploratory venture into the city with the elezen to investigate the claims.

OOC Comment

I'm very friendly! I can be fairly shy about initiating RP but I'm always eager and happy to reciprocate! If you see me feel free to say hello, or I can be found on the RPC and Enjin as Khoba (though I am terrible about checking the former.)

I love to RP and to write and draw and encourage everyone to approach me if any of the above seems appealing; I will always be open to ideas and while I don't know the lore terribly well I will always be willing to help with a story. If anyone is ever in need of a healer, a sparring partner, a drinking buddy, a scapegoat, or anything I very much would love to meet you and your characters and get up to some trouble. Though I tend to try and keep my own RP light and I enjoy Khoba being a sort of comic-relief type, by no means am I at all opposed to more serious or dramatic plots. Fairly easygoing, and really open for almost any RP anyone wants to throw in Khoba's direction; slice-of-life, violence, silliness, adult-themes, have at! Never hurts to ask. “Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed."

I very much love providing a side or support character to help others pursue their stories, and if you can get past all the sass and snark I promise Khoba's not so bad. Very open to suggestions and requests for RP and character interaction. While Khoba is an only child (at least her father's only child) there is ample room in her history for cousins, acquaintances, friends, childhood puppyloves, etc. Should she be of interest to fill a role or establish a past history with another, I am more than pleased to accommodate.

Unless otherwise noted, all art/sketches on this page were made by me!
