Although he was an abject failure, he didn't walk away empty-handed. He made a life-long friend out of an Auri classmate, Eiai Airi. Their bond is so strong that they consider each other siblings, which usually draws confused reactions from others. Nonetheless, he's protective of her and loves her dearly even if they don't see each other very often.
