Early Life - Pre-Invasion of Ala Mhigo He never had a chance to know his birth parents. His father had disappeared before he was born and his mother died soon after his birth. She’d made her way to a rancher’s home and shortly afterwards went into labor. She lived just long enough to name her newborn son Sieghart. Most of his early years were uneventful. Despite not being born to them, Bertan and Lina Gaeleron, owners of the ranch, took the newborn Sieghart in and raised him as theirs. They had never been able to conceive children of their own, so they viewed Sieghart as a gift from Rhalgar himself. That’s not to say life on the ranch was easy, but it was home for the young boy. The family lived too remote to see much trade and education was minimal at best. Sieghart learned enough reading and writing to get by, but was never one for literature of any sort. He preferred physical labor over books anyway. They had had a few ranch hands come and go over the cycles, but most of the time it was just the three of them trying to scrape out a meager living in the remote wilds of Gyr Abania. Bertan and Lina taught Sieghart as much about the history of their people and land as possible, but such lessons were few and far between. He was warned about the cunning elezen of the Black Shroud and the treacherous Lalafell of Thanalan. They told him stories of the dastardly pirates of Limsa Lominsa and the deadly machinations of the Garlean Empire to the north. He took those lessons to heart and oft prayed with his mother and meditated with his father afterward.. Being located between the border of the Garlean Empire to the northeast and Ala Mhigo to the southwest, the Gaeleron’s ranch was one of the first territories to fall to the invading empire. The ranch was remote enough to be spared most of the turmoil of the mad king’s fall and they would occasionally hear word from a lost merchant or wandering trade caravan, but seldom would any militiamen or soldiers make the venture that deep into their box canyon. A fact that suited Bertan and Lina just fine, but as Sieghart got older, made him begin to develop a sense of wanderlust. A feeling that was more than satiated when the forces of Garlemald arrived.
