As children, we are led to believe that all souls are brought forth into the world cloaked in innocence; but is this just? Is this belief true? For most, yes - they arrive with an innocence that simply cannot be taught; a rose-color outlook on the world around them. But for others there is a darkness that none can deny - a stain that refuses to be stifled and a calling which beckons in the dead of night. Arisu was born into the latter of the two; ushered into this world with a smear of something evil buried deep within her soul.

Scars & Markings: A spread of scar tissue runs along the back of her shoulders, from left to right - a burn pattern from an incident involving school children and a learned sense of fear regarding the young Xaela. A second scar exists running vertical against the right corner of her mouth - it is minor and often unseen when lip pigments are worn.

Voice: Some would say Arisu's voice lands in the range of a high alto, while others may claim a low to mid-range soprano. The truth is simply that Arisu's range depends entirely on her company. It has been known to develop a slightly higher pitch when embarrassed and drop to a mid-range alto when in the presence of someone she finds herself attracted to physically, sexually, mentally or spiritually. And then there are those who simply feel the Xaela's voice is nothing more than nails on a chalkboard.

Clothing: The culture of the Mankhad is almost non-existent when it comes to the everyday attire of the Xaela woman; with the majority of her life spent beneath the roof of her adopted parents, Arisu has developed a "love" of the Doman culture that engulfed the later half of her adolescence. Upon arriving to Eorzea, the teaching of her Mankhad mother remained and she has found herself adopting the styles and trends that plague Eorzean women. Even so, her own style is slowly beginning to develop over time and an appreciation of stockings has reared its head, leaving Arisu to pursue such merchants whenever the opportunity arises.

As Hamlet said to Ophelia, ”God has given you one face, and you make yourself another." The battle between these two halves of identity...Who we are and who we pretend to be, is unwinnable.

Just as there are two sides to every story, there are two sides to every person. One that we reveal to the world and another we keep hidden inside. A duality governed by the balance of light and darkness, within each of us is the capacity for both good and evil. But those who are able to blur the moral dividing line hold the true power.

  • Stockings. This is a newly acquired fascination. A development which began as a child, watching her adoptive mother get dressed for special meetings. Since arriving in Eorzea, Arisu has experimented with this particular piece of clothing and found the pleasure in the texture of such luxurious fabrics being stretched over taut stems.
  • Coastal Sunshine. A life-long love of sea air often leads the woman to the coast, bringing back whispers of a life spent basking in the sun of her childhood home.
  • Cherry Blossoms. The scent. The innocent beauty. It is a trip down memory lane, drawing the vixen back to a time tucked into the side of Othard mountains and Doma outskirts. A village and a adoptive family, a mother who refused to see the demon inside.
  • Watching Conflict. A lesser known satisfaction, observing conflict between strangers (and sometimes those she knows) brings great pleasure to the woman. Especially so if she is the cause.

Dislikes

  • Extreme Cold. A life spent in the warmth of the sun has made Arisu very susceptible to the opposite spectrum of temperatures. Extreme colds (such as those found in Ishgard) are less than desirable and will often be met with an irritated disdain and a slur of curses.
  • False Kindness. There is nothing more irritating than meeting someone whose ability to feign sincerity and kindness is so lacking that such gestures come across as a pure form of sarcasm. This behavior has always drawn Arisu's ire - even moreso now that she has come to call Eorzea home.
  • Most Domans. While not a violent reaction, Arisu's lack of compassion or adoration for the people who "took her in" is shown whenever she finds herself in the presence of refugees. Perhaps it is directly related to the piss poor treatment shown by the whole of the village she once called home?
  • Sweets. From cookies to candies to cakes... she loathes them all. Texture. Taste. The sweetness that plagues her tongue. There is no shame shown in spitting out anything that harbors a sugary taste and no, Arisu does not apologize for her aversion to the treats.

Lycie.png

Lycie'a Cays { }
Introduced into Arisu's life as payment for a debt, the relationship between Xaela and Miqo'te has not always been easy for either side. A frigid exterior was all Lycie'a received for many, many days before the woman finally began to show some sign of warmth to the eager boy. Currently, the pairing are often seen about, though from the outside it is nearly impossible to tell whether or not Arisu genuinely cares for the presence of her "manservant" or if she simply tolerates him due to the outstanding debt hanging over both their heads.

Bibi.png

Bibinji Bubunji { }
A curious creation of the Gods, Arisu remains quite conflicted when it comes to the pint-sized curmudgeon. On the one hand, there is a special bond between Xaela and Lalafell - the sarcasm dripping from his tongue plays a crucial part in her adoration. On the other, there is something unnerving about the man - the way he moves, so sluggish and yet utterly powerful. There is a radiance around him, an ambiance that so many seem to overlook or ignore - it drives Arisu mad with curiosity. What is he hiding beneath that lethargic exterior? Is it power beyond mortal comprehension? Is it a genuine disdain for Eorzea and all its inhabitants? Is there a Voidsent living inside the little man, hellbent on gathering enough aether to manifest its true form?

Mother.png

Asukai Ai { ?}
When it comes to the Doman woman whom adopted the young Xaela woman, Arisu's feelings remain quite private. The beauty whom presented Arisu with her name is rarely spoken of and when the topic becomes brushed, there is a neutrality to her voice - a sense of disconnect that most would chalk to the fact that this woman, this savior is dead. What little one can pry from the lips of Arisu herself is that Asukai did much to ensure Arisu would remain in the village, living among Raen, Hyur and Miqo'te; and when the uprisings began, it was Asukai whom saw her precious Xaela daughter off - ensuring safe passage for Arisu and her adopted siblings, Asukai's blood children.

Daddy.png

Hirano Ai { }
Even less is known about the Doman man whom "agreed" to sheltering the young Xaela woman. Asukai's husband, Hirano, is a name one won't find on the lips of Arisu often. To hear it, is the hear the unabated hatred store deep in Arisu's stomach for the Hyur who cherished his natural born children. Arisu does not deny the hostility at the mention of her adopted "father" (if one could call him such), but going into details is something she refuses. Any conversation leading down such a road is almost instantly terminated - this includes walking away from a curious patron without explanation.

People talk... barmaids, barflies, merchants... words are often passed from tongue to ear, bringing information great and small; and each city brings with it new information, new whispers. For one such Xaela, these whispers range from outlandish exaggerations to quiet truths birthed into the ears of barmaids through her own tongue.

The information presented below is only a fragment of the whispers engulfing Arisu Ai's existence.
