Overview
Born into the head family of the Khatagin tribe, with having three siblings of which Asht'rang was the only son. Asht'rang's family hails from privilege and leadership, commanded much respect, and influence. His mother, the matriarch was fourth in succession from the current head of tribe, producing children with the ability to see and manipulate Aether. This created a competitiveness and rivalry among his sisters to be favored best by their mother and family. Asht'rang grew up in the harshness of that environment of manipulation and trickery by his sisters. His own aptitude for harnessing Aether came naturally and strongest out of his kin, for which the family began his training early, lasting several years to help focus and build his position in the head family. His sisters having learned that their mother favored him most made relations worse with the household resorting to more severe machinations to bring about their brother's downfall in the family. Asht'rang was placed into a position to procreate offspring because of his status and talents. This fact was made very clear to him by the head family.
The Khatagin employ more subterfuge than straightforward warfare to dispatch their enemies, with all members of the clan utilizing trickery, stealth, the exploitation of myth, and assassination to widdle down rival tribes. Their methods inspire hushed rumor outside of their forests, and they thrive on the fear generated by such rumors. Asht'rang favored a warrior's strength and tough resolve instead of assassination for which the Khatagin are known.
Asht'rang, once of age, was arranged by his family to be Bonded—the closest equivalent that of an Eorzean marriage—to another woman in the tribe. He resented the pairing, because he disagreed with the tradition that removed his ability to chose his fate. The pairing never happened as Asht'rang took a voluntary exile in contempt of his families wishes. The head family agreed stating, when he returned, he would be bound to marry the daughter of their choosing or suffer worse. He set out on a pilgrimage to help protect and provide aid to others during his travels. After five years, Asht'rang apprenticed to an armor-smith, and took to chocobo racing and games of chance when in the cities during his travels.
Physically Asht'rang is tall, with dark hued skin, black scales covering portions of his Xaela body, strong of body and mind and determined once he has put his mind to task.
Personality
Asht'rang often displays an serious yet calm demeanor, is evenly-tempered and emotionally stable-it takes a lot to really upset him. On the surface, he is somewhat pessimistic and is very slow to trust anyone. As such, he can come across somewhat reserved and cold; it doesn't help that he reveals very little about himself or his tribe. Although he isn't impulsive, he is intrepid and will fight to the end if he feels the cause is just. Asht'rang isn't interested in tradition or powers that be in his tribe, primarily focusing on how he can help the people suffering in Eorzea and those he calls friends. He tends to focus on his duties, which tend to keep him on the move, except when something of note interests him.
