Hair & Eyes

Claire keeps her hair cut in a short, almost a-line style with two slightly longer, wide braids that frame the right side of her face, both of which are capped with what appear to be ornate arrowheads. A thick fringe of bangs covers her forehead, ending about an inch above her eyebrows. Her hair is a mixture of pale blonde and extremely pale, almost pink strands, though the mixture ends up looking like a light pink in most lighting. Prior to the Calamity, she used to wear it a bit longer, with the ends brushing just below her shoulders.

Her eyes are an icy blue, however they tend to darken a bit with emotion; sometimes, this is the only indication someone might have that Claire's feeling any sort of emotion at all, as she tends to be closely guarded.

.
Physique & Markings

Standing at 5'7" tall, Claire is above average height for a Midlander female; if it were not for her lean, wiry stature, she might be mistaken for a small Highlander. While she clearly has muscle definition, her muscle architecture is lean and wiry instead of bulky, like most Midlanders. She dresses for utility, foregoing the protection that plate and chain armours have to offer for the mobility of leather, and eschewing the ornate and often impractical styles that many cloth based items offer. The majority of her clothing is form fitting yet flexible, with very few pieces of excess fabric that isn't bound back in some fashion; this makes it difficult for anyone to use such excess as a way to grapple her during combat.

She carries a Blazefire Sabre, though it's been fairly well modified from the standard style that was discovered around the time that the strange otherworldly knight was travelling through Eorzea. She also has a pistol she rarely uses, a gift from a friend who was part of the Knights of the Barracuda. Claire also carries a small hunting dagger that is tucked away in her boot or the satchel that is strapped to her thigh, typically using it as a utility knife, though she can use it as a weapon if desperate enough.

.
Personality
Psychological Profile

Although few in Limsa Lominsa or Ul'dah can claim they really knew Claire all that well, her associates admit that like many others who survived the Calamity, she's changed. While she was always head-strong, they tone of that changed after the night of fire in Lominsa; before, she was compassionate and altruistic, always willing to help those around her without hesitation and without any ulterior motives. Now, while she will never willingly allow someone to die if she has the means to stop it, her heart doesn't seem to be into it the way it used to be, and sometimes her efforts are almost grudgingly done.

For the more part, Claire is very distant with people, often seeming cold and uncaring. She will be polite, and often fake common conversation when necessary, but she reveals little about herself unless she feels there is something to be gained. Even then, she often uses a marginal amount of misdirection, and will quickly turn the conversation to other topics or back upon the persons she is speaking with. During such conversations, very little real emotion ever breaks through her calm exterior, and any sort of sarcasm or joking is deadpan or dry.

Mostly, she avoids situations where the discussions can turn to personal.

.
Voice

She seems to speak with a voice that is devoid of any sort of emotion or tone, unless someone manages to piss her off - then she will raise her voice, and the fury can be heard upon her words.

Combat, Abilities & Weaponry

As far as anyone is aware, Claire is an accomplished swordmaiden, and quite talented with pistols and other small firearms. She is also familiar with hand-to-hand combat, and the use of two-handed weaponry. Although she is not very good at it, Claire can heal herself when necessary.

She states she's not all that concerned about magic, something that surprises many who are familiar with her past.

Her particular fighting style is a bit different from that commonly seen in Eorzea, combining elements from many different schools with her unique brand of combat.

OOC Note
■ Static World of Darkness Dice Pool: Essentially, using the basic idea of the 20th Anniversary Edition of the World of Darkness, with a static pool of dice (either 5 or 10 dice, depending upon how much variety one wants), using the standard success scale to determine the outcomes of combat; this also works well for various other skill & knowledge checks, even without having any sort of stats.
■ Designated Personal Systems: Everyone has their own system for group combat RP which they themselves made or they made for their Free Company. I am open to discovering, learning, and uses all kinds!
■ Free-form/Honour System: Typically, I am only comfortable with a free-form or honour based system of combat with those I have known for a least a little bit of time, and generally hash out a rough outline of the combat flow before posts even begin (much like the storyboards for a movie scene). If someone I know can vouch for someone I have only recently met, I may take a dive with a free-form or honour based scene for a combat, but otherwise, it is highly unlikely that I would be willing to do so; I have been role playing in MMOs for nearly twenty years, via message boards, messengers, and BBSs for nearly twenty five years, and role playing in general for nearly thirty...so I have lost quite a bit of faith in humanity's honour on the internet and in 'lawless' role play.

Please, do not take it personal.

History
.
Disclaimer: Please use information very sparingly - some events, like the night of the Calamity, are obviously public knowledge, while many others are obviously not so easily known; typically, it's better to ask than to assume!
Sixth Astral Era
Early Life
Although she avoids speaking about her childhood, Claire had a relatively normal life as a young child with her sister, Kala. They lived in a foreign City-State for most of their young lives before migrating back to the City-State's birth nation with the rest of the residents.

Prelude to the Calamity
Approximately a year to a year and a half before the Calamity, Claire and Kala returned to Eorzea with Kala's fiancé, Edur; Edur was from Limsa Lominsa and had followed Kala to her homeland, however both of them longed to return to Limsa. Eventually, Claire caved in and the trio made their way back to the nautical City-State via ship and settled in the reformed pirate town.

While Edur was welcomed back, and to a degree, Kala was accepted due to being his fiancée, Claire was treated like an outsider even after helping with several threats to the City-State - including some from the Sahagin and their Serpent Reaver allies. In frustration, she left Limsa after a few months to try and find work in Ul'dah, returning frequently to check in on her sister and make sure Edur wasn't ruining Kala's life.

After a series of freak accidents, Claire was beginning to think Ul'dah was an even worse choice than Limsa Lominsa had been. Not only had there been the various strange accidents, but the way Ul'dah in general operated was not to her liking - the politics between the Sultanate and the Moniterists were much more dark and manipulative than those of the pirates in Lominsa, and there was something more at work here as well.

The owner of the Adventurer's Guild had tried to direct her toward an underground group known as the Path of the Twelve after Claire had blacked out in a cave out in the deserts of Thanalan, however the meeting with the leader of the group had rather mixed results. Claire had an utterly complex reaction to the woman, as well as disliking the woman's personality and beliefs; she only agreed to be any sort of ally of the Path after a long conversation with a young lady named Lane Ealdwine, and even then Claire only kept loose relations with them through Lane. It did keep her in Ul'dah for most of that year, which seemed to be an epicentre for a lot of what was happening just before the Calamity.

And then there was That Bard.

Most of the time, she hated him, and was not afraid to remind him of that. However, there were a handful of times that he had shown up at precisely the right moment and helped her keep people alive and safe, so she couldn't completely hate him. He did, however, have a habit of being extremely disarming and an even worse habit of trying to flirt with her; most of the time she encountered him, it ended with him being slapped - or at worse, punched - before she would stalk off.

Claire was vaguely aware of his involvement in some sort of organisation consisting of members from their mutual homeland, however he insisted that the less she knew, the safe it was for her. As the war between the Garlean Empire and Eorzea became more and more apparent, Claire figured out that whatever organisation the Bard was involved with was directly interfering with the situation - the pair argued several times about whether or not it was right for any Sharlayan to be involved, however he made it clear that if they didn't act, it could affect all of Hydaelyn. When Claire again attempted to get involved, the fight got physical, forcing the Bard to knock her out; he broke off all contact, but that didn't entirely stop Claire from acting.

Instead, she returned to Limsa Lominsa, and attempted to get involved with the Maelstrom, since he likely cut of any avenue of getting involved through the Immortal Flames. Though they did finally accept help, as they were preparing to mount an offensive against the Garleans, Claire was horrified to find out that the entire Maelstrom force and most of the militia would be leaving for Carteneau. She started a rather loud fight with her commanding officer, and promptly was removed from the entire operation.

The Bard was on his own. She couldn't believe that anyone who was overseeing the operation couldn't see the error in leaving any of the city-states - let alone all of them - so under guarded, and believed that it was a mistake that would cost far too many lives. She began patrolling with the remaining Yellowjacket forces, whom despite being wary of the "foreigner" were much more wary of being so understaffed; unfortunately, she was right - she just never could have known how terribly right she would be.

Return to Limsa Lominsa
It was not until the night of the Calamity that Claire was finally accepted by the Lominsans as one of their own, and that was only after working well past the dawn to save the locals in the aftermath of Bahamut's rain of fire upon the bay and city, which resulted in her own collapse and several day recovery.

After her recovery, she was granted citizenship and an informal place as an ally of both the Yellowjackets and the Maelstrom. However, she did not remain exclusively within the city for long once the local healers would let her return to her training - Kala had been injured in the Calamity, and while her physical wounds had been healed, she would not awaken.

Seventh Umbral Era
After the Calamity
Over the past five years, Claire has unintentionally built up a small organisation around her while she has been furthering her own goals. Although it was bought through Edur Attwater, since he was a citizen of Limsa Lominsa and Claire was not at the time, she owns a rather sizeable home in the Mist. Since Edur isn't exactly all that responsible when it comes to housework, and Kala is still in an unresponsive coma, Claire hired a pair of Lalafell housekeepers to keep everything in order. While one couldn't call the yard expansive, it does take a bit of work to keep it from getting overgrown, so after a few months away and returning to find the moko grass almost requiring its own mailing address, she also hired a Roegadyn groundskeeper.

Toward the end of the first year after the Calamity, Lane Ealdwine arrived in Limsa Lominsa and tracked Claire down, and after a very long conversation, Lane decided to leave the Path to help Claire find a way to awaken her sister. Even when Claire wasn't home, it was a very full house, and things ran smoothly for her whenever she needed something to be done.

At the suggestion of her assistant and perhaps only close friend, she turned the situation into a formal adventuring company a few months after her disastrous meeting at the Waking Sands. The only stipulation was that one hallway of the house would be barred off from casual entry; Claire didn't want people having unfettered access to the room where Kala slept or to her own personal room, and Lane and Edur both agreed that it was probably for the best.
In Recent Times
Moving Forward
Since the founding of the free company, Claire has largely been working on developing a system that recognises the similarities in aetheric patterns between individuals who have what is known as the Echo, allowing a series of magitek devices to essentially detect the potential presence of what she terms "Hydaelyn's Curse"; she has refined the device several times, and it now can be formed into eyewear - she has a couple of different styles of goggles that have the module in them, however more recently she's been using a very classy looking monocle with the smallest module she's made yet. Meanwhile, Lane has become something of a talent scout for the company, and has her own pair of goggles with a module in them.

The EDM is not the only technological effort Claire's worked on over the years. As she has been something of a fixture around the Musketeers' Guild, without ever formally joining them - as a foreigner, she really can't - she is a bit of an enthusiast about firearms. The company has also gotten its hands on a lot of different kinds of technology - ancient and foreign - that Claire started merging with modern firearm technology. She was given a Pre-Imperial Garlean Revolver that was in almost pristine condition, and has since modified it heavily with both Allagan and other unfamiliar technologies.

Aside from her own endeavours in magical and technological research, Claire has largely been a magistrate for her free company; between the two, it seems to take up all of her time, and she's not particularly been seen out and about for several years.

RP Limits
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask.
I will play ...almost anything that is not described below.
Ask about ...death that is not discussed in great detail well beforehand - there must be a great deal of planning and the character's story must be at its end before I will consent to this facet of role play.
I won't play ...death that's not discussed in great detail well beforehand - there must be a great deal of planning and the character's story must be at its end before I'll consent to this facet of role play; ...rape is not something that's on the table, as such is a psychologically traumatising topic. Regardless of how beautifully scripted one believes their idea to be, don't bother to bring such proposals or attempt to inject them into our interactions. It's beyond the pale, beyond the Nope List.; ...maiming, scarring, or intense injury of any sort that is not discussed in great detail beforehand - Claire's livelihood depends upon not only her intellect and skills, but also her her physical manoeuvrability as well, so malformation can keep her from holding her weapons and scientific tools; ...plots that are devolved of substance, and only focus on ERP. While I'm not against sexual situations - as it's interesting to watch Claire discover more about such things - I am against any sort of story that lacks story.
RP Hooks
While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.

Player Note
There is a lot of information on this character wiki, but it is by no means completely comprehensive. There are chunks of backstory that are left intentionally vague so that details can be later added as developed through creative writing or in role-play revelation. Feel free to use Common or Uncommon rumors freely, if you want to use a Rare Rumor as a plot hook or to spark RP, I would ask that you send me a tell first, to make certain it's alright.

Tropes & Explanations
A trope is a convention or device that is often found in creative works. In this case, the tropes below describe my character either in part, or as a whole. Their background, personality, appearance, etc, most of them can be described in the tropes below.
Trope Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés.
