Appearance & Personality

Hound is a tall, dark skinned roegadyn woman. She is muscular and fit. Her body is littered with nicks and scars. Most noticeably is her left eye. It is usually covered by an eye patch. The left eye is missing. The flesh in and around the eye socket and scarred from burns. Some of the burned flesh is seen even with the eye patch on.

Hound is not an overly friendly person and depending on her mood will get you one or two results. She will either put up with you while imagining ways on how to remove your arms or is mellowed and apathetic.

Hound is not easily taunted. She frets none over being called names or insulted.

Biography

Childhood

Grieving Hound was born to a hermit like home in the mountain ranges of the Abalathian Spine. Her parents were loving and kind. She has an older brother and a younger sister. Her early life education was that of how to treat others. She has no academic education at all. Hound cannot read any language. She can however recognize certain common words. Hound earned her name early on in life. She was lost once for a period of over two days. No older than the age of eight. Her family, that were able and neighbors went on a hunt for the missing girl. When she was found, it was high up in the mountains. She was heard crying from a distance and when they approached found her cradling a mortally wounded wolf pup. From then on she was known as Grieving Hound. Grieving was a popular girl in her community. Always the first to volunteer to offer a helping hand even at the cost of spending time playing with friends. Grieving often helped her father cut lumber.

Teenage Years

As Grieving grew it quickly became apparent she was on the larger end in size of roegadyn women. From the years helping cut, carry and carve lumber with her father she had grown mightily strong and skilled with an ax. She discovered boys at a typical age and slowly began to become more infatuated with flirting and spending time with hamlets boys than cutting lumber with her father. While this saddened her father he knew it was what made Grieving happy. Grieving was always competitive. She would challenge and often beat her opponents in physical feats. From sprinting, running, climbing, wood chopping, wrestling, weight lifting, arm wrestling. Hound was blessed with excellent physical genetics and a great personal drive to improve. It was only natural that she was among the first to be levied when the bells of war rang.

Levy Service

Grieving Hound was forcibly conscripted along with many other able bodied from her home. Her brother was conscripted as well but her younger sister was to young to go. Grieving was only fifteen when she entered military service unwillingly. She spent her first few months learning the ways of war from the Sergeants. As she was already skilled with an ax she stuck to it as her weapon. She wasn't given armor as it was too expensive to be given to someone as low as her on the totem pole. Grieving, who from then on only went by Hound, and her brother Laughing Drake who only went by Drake, were in the same company. He looked out for her and she looked out for him. They saved each others life on more than one occasion. It wasn't until she was sixteen, nearing seven-teen did they get into their first large scale conflict. Hound got her first taste of war and she did not like it. Their enemy had attacked a village in the Spine. They killed anyone who fought, imprisoned anyone who didn't and burnt the rest to the ground. The shock that came with the realization that someone could even do such a thing to a village forever scarred the mind of Hound. The war in the Spine went on for three more years. In that time Hound and Drake gained a reputation and a slight bit of renown on the battlefield. It was here that Hound killed her first man, along with many others. The anger and fear she had held for her enemies nearly broke the the young girl entirely. She witnessed the horrors of war in its entirely and the cruelty that people were able to bring upon one another. The young, helpful, optimistic and happy girl who was known as Grieving ceased to exist.

Post Military

When the campaigns were over and the levy was released to return to their homes, Hound refused to return with her brother. As much as he had pleaded with her she had refused and slipped away in the night at the age of nine-teen. Her brother, Drake, had returned home without his sister. To this day she has never set foot back in her home. When Hound made her way into the world she quickly found herself scrapping together all she could to survive. Foraging, selling small things she had found or trading it for food. The nightmares of war kept her from fitting back into society. It was a cold night while sleeping in the alleyways of the bottom rung district of a town when Hound's life would change forever again. She was filthy, not having bathed in weeks. Cold and shivering from the rain as she could not afford to pay for shelter. A drunken group of thugs came across her and tried to take her against her will. Hound reacted forcibly and was able to not only defend herself but to leave the group with broken bones and pleading for mercy. She did not give it to them. She was unawares to it until afterwards but the leader of the company of thugs that Hound just dispatched watched from afar. She displayed the strength, power and lack of mercy the captain looked for in recruits. The captain offered Hound a job. Join them as one of their own and anything she could ever want could be hers. She accepted and from them on she would become the monster that so many hate today.

Dark Years

It did not take Hound long to adjust to the new life style. They gave her food, warmth and respect. Things she hadn't had in half a decade. Just as quickly, Hound displayed her combat prowess in many of their illegal activities. She rose in prestige quickly in the group. She bested their most able fighter and cut his throat to send a message. The fear and respect she received from her fellow criminals began to fill the gap Hound had in her heart. She grew addicted to it and wanted more. Hound stayed with this same group for just over twenty years. They traveled from continent to continent. They raped, murdered, stole, trafficked whoever they wanted. Hound's martial and physical ability continued to increase over the years. Hound became the groups most feared enforcer. From rape, skinning, torture, impalement, crucification, murder and arson tactics she would intimidate their enemies. The body count Hound had earned over the years as a brutal enforcer was nearly a score over eleven-hundred.

All changed again on what appeared to be a routine raid. The story of events is kept secret and only a handful know of what happened. Common knowledge is that this is the battle that Hound lost her eye and hung up the mantle of terror.

Nomad

Hound was now forty-one years of age. She had spent a year roaming Eorzea. She would lend a hand from time to time to people in need that she came across. But purposely made little impact. Eorzea scarcely knew of most of her deeds (as most crimes were committed on another continent) and even fewer still would be able to recognize her, if any at all. The complete one-eighty she had made in her life took a long time to adjust to. No longer was she killing, stealing, maiming or committing other crimes. She spent many of hours toning her body to peak physical condition and kept her war arts practiced. She hunted for a place to call home. For a new start. She heard talk of a free company. Harbingers of Dawn.

Harbingers of Dawn

HoD took her in without question. They however were not what she had seen advertised about them. She was looking to make a difference and atone for the things she had done. What she was given was a bar tending job at the company estate while the members debated politics and sapped each other with internal fighting. It was here however that Hound met two people who would again forever change her course in life. Askier Mergrey and Raven Gorehand. Askier and Raven became her two only friends. Raven became her best friend and first true friend that didn't pretend to like her out of fear since she was a teenager. Askier was someone who she saw bits of herself in and took a strange liking to him, even though she could never truly understand why.

Askier Mergrey

The relationship between the two friends thrived for a long time. However, events in Askier's life caused the two to go down an all to familiar path for Hound. Askier had got himself into some less than legal activities and Hound, having experience with, lent her ax. This proved to be a mistake for Hound as it led to her being involved in plots and activities that would eventually lead her down the criminal path again. (For information on Askier Mergrey and his story, please view his RPC page)

Raven Gorehand

Hound eventually was able to break free of the life again by putting herself into self imposed exile for half a year. Hound was now forty-four years of age. When she returned from her exile she had learned that her friend Raven Gorehand had been killed not long before she returned. Raven had died in a conflict dispute between Ala Mhigan refugee clans. Ultimately Hound learned of the details of her fate. Raven Gorehand gave her life holding back a rival Ala Mhigan clan while her brother Skeld got the clans children to safety. Upon her death in battle, her body had the feet, hands, head removed as well as burns and an ax left in the torso. Hound was stricken with grief and rage at the aggression of this clan and their mistreatment of the corpse of her friend.

Ala Mhigan Massacre

Hound spent the next few days after learning of her friends death plotting revenge. She learned all she could from contacts and received details about them. (FanFic story of the event available upon request. It is rated M for acts of extreme violence and gore to persons over and under the age of eighteen.) When her revenge was made, the entirety of the clan was left in ruin. The only survivors were members of the clan who were not present. With aid from former gang members, she had led an assault against them. Leaving just over a hundred dead Ala Mhigan's. The dead were men, women and children. She had reciprocated the same conditions of Raven's mistreatment upon their children and then some. Two weeks later Hound would be taken into custody by members of a Flame Organization: The Dauntless. She was put on trial and a representative from the Sultansworn, the Immortal Flames and the Brass Blades sat as members of the tribunal. The Immortal Flames prosecuted Hound while a volunteer gave Hound's defense. After a lengthy trial and deliberation Hound was found guilty and was unpopularly sentenced to conditioned service in the Immortal Flames.

Present

Hound spent over a year in the services of the Immortal Flames as per her sentence for her crimes. Recently, during a battle occurring during the Second Umbral Moon Hound has gone missing. A quick search of the dead on the field found no results. Her current whereabouts are unknown and her identifiable information has been put out to the Grand Company's and to the bounty hunters in the event she has escaped custody.

◢ PC Rumors (Rumors from the character's of other players)
She pretends she doesn't like me but I know she does, she also swears she's not a good woman but I don't believe that either. You don't just save someone's life twice if somewhere, even deep down, you're not a good person. Hound. I don't know what to say other than that I really am fond of the woman, and if I ever had to fight for her you better believe I would! - Siha Xinkei
"She should have stayed dead." - Askier Mergrey
"Utterly heartless without a compassionate bone in her frame. The only thing I regret about our...miscommunication, is that I missed." - Edgar Von Gandervalt
"Be sure you only address her has Hound, nothing else. Using titles or anything else makes her mad. And you would be stupid, and probably suicidal, if you made her mad on purpose! She's a scary lady." - Jin'to Epinoch

RELATIONS

Friendship Sexual Desire Good Standing Poor Standing
Siha Xinkei : "Stupid and stubborn. I've done nothin' but be honest with her and she doesn't believe me. She'll believe it when she sees it first hand I suppose. At least I got two free meals from her for saving her life. Twice. The little cat has cost me a lot."

UPDATED: "Every person has their demons. This miqo'te is mine."

Edgar Von Gandervalt : "An angry little cat. He's deceiving, educated and can get quite fiery once he's lit up. The sod took a swing at me when his friend failed to kill herself. Like it was my fault. Why should I show compassion for her?"
I'khalo Belho : "A funny, sweet miqo'te. She's entertained me quite a few evenings while I drank myself to sleep. Few things pull at my heart to want to defend. But Khalo has done it."
Raven Gorehand : "Raven was once one of my better friends. However my actions in choosing to 'save' Siha's life has costed me this friendship. Nearly to the point where we would have dueled to the death in the sand. I'm glad I didn't have to fight her. To end her life would have caused me much grief."

UPDATED: "....Raven. I'm sorry. I only hope that I was able to avenge you. What happened to you was terrible and my fault. If I had only stayed. I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?"

Askier Mergrey : "Askier.... Askier.... Askier... He's lied to me. Used me. Betrayed me. In return I did the same to him. Or so he thought. I did what I had to do to save his life. Not that he deserved it. If the courts decided he would be executed I would have offered my ax to do it."
Ogron Gerehardt : "Don't you ever mention his name."
