History

Parents:

Haia Dehqon - Inja's mother of an unknown age (you don't ask a woman her age, after all). She worked odd jobs in order to feed her family and encouraged anybody with any talent to find work in order to at least feed themselves, if not to ease her burden. She was the loving yet stern queen of the household who had no hesitation in pinching an ear if any of her children crossed a line. She was also fiercely protective of her children, even her sons, to the point of nagging other parents and children if they also behaved disgracefully. It was through her refusal to let anybody wallow in self-pity that so many in the Dehqon family pulled together after the calamity to replace what they'd lost and to, hopefully, gain a little more in case another disaster happened.

Siblings:

Haht Dehqon - Inja's oldest sister who loved to hear stories, but wasn't too keen on reading them herself. She also had a tendency to play rough with her brothers and lead them into mischief if she thought she could get away with it. Haia sometimes says that some of her grey hair came just from keeping Haht from causing a riot. Being the oldest, she was expected to accept responsibility and at least ensure the younger ones weren't slacking on whatever they were doing. She ended up joining the Brass Blades and was deployed away from Ul'dah, eventually falling out of touch with her family. It's unknown whether she's alive or not.

Haia'to Dehqon - One of Inja's older brothers who always tried to bring her into games, whether she wanted to or not until her crying brought his mother's wrath down on everybody. He was the only brother to come home after the calamity and chipped in by enlisting with the miners and volunteering to clear out rubble from those places that were razed by Bahamut. He still sends what little money he can spare from meager pay and visits more regularly now that work nearby isn't quite as demanding. He's matured significantly and no longer teases his siblings as much.

Thsim & Naigi Dehqon - Twins and the youngest sisters of the Dehqon family in Ul'dah. They were the most responsible for encouraging their older and more energetic siblings to play and get into trouble, just like in any family with many children. They were young enough to still be coddled by their mother when it was hard to miss Dalamud swelling with every passing night. They were the first to be given a place to sleep in their shelter, though they had to share the space like everybody else, but at least they were allowed more comfort than the eldest if they'd forgotten to bring pillows and blankets of their own. They weren't quite as expected to find work, but they quickly found work running messages around the city. That much exposure to the various guilds and businesses gave them early experience that will hopefully help them as they get older. Now they do trivial jobs as they find them, but mostly stay home.

Childhood:

Inja was born and raised in a small home in Ul'dah, surrounded by brothers and sisters who, while prone to putting her in uncomfortable situations, would have her back if things went wrong. She wasn't nearly as energetic as her other siblings when they were the same age, which her mother considered a blessing yet also worried about. Most of her time was spent listening to stories and studying to read so she could collect books and always have paper adventures within reach. Sometimes one of her brothers or sisters would try to pull her into their rough games which often left her sore, breathless, and sometimes bruised. Pranks rarely went in their favor when she cried, and she wasn't afraid back then to really howl as if her tail had been broken. Eventually, they learned to just leave her be to watch if she even wanted that much involvement. At least she wasn't a tattler who would ruin their fun, even if it was something very stupid.

One day Haia went out for groceries and entrusted the house to the older children. Of course they weren't content to just sit there while the rain filled the air with wonderfully earthy smells. The restlessness got the better of them and they talked themselves into leaving since Inja, now in her mid-teens) showed no interest in running about through puddles and mud. She was fine with that, since that meant some peace and quiet for once. She was too wrapped up in a book to hear anything going on around her until a hand grabbed her roughly by the back of her collar. She was lifted easily from the floor and thrown bodily against a wall. An arm pressed against her throat to stop any screams as the savage face filled her vision and rank body odor filled her nose. She didn't know what the man said before she was pushed into a closet and the door slammed shut and was found in the barricaded cubby some time later. She's been even more of a nervous wreck around strangers since then.

It was only a handful of years until the Dalamud Calamity, and by then the oldest siblings were spending less time in the house, leaving Inja with the responsibility of watching over the last additions to the family as much as they hated staying inside. When even the most nearsighted person in Ul'dah noticed how Dalamud had changed, everyone who was still living in the household was told to pack only the essentials and get ready to leave. The time came and everybody was herded towards the stronghold with little more than the clothes on their backs and something to sleep on. Families were directed to different rooms, likely depending on their social status or whether they bribed the right people, but at least they were kept together as long as they didn't wander off. It was an excruciating wait to see what would happen as more people trickled in with news of how things looked out there. Finally the time came when the moon exploded, pounding the room and creating little cracks in the plaster. The room trembled with each heavy impact and the only other sound was sobbing as the refugees worried about whether the ceiling would fall on their heads.

Only after word came from outside was anybody allowed to leave to reclaim whatever was still there to be reclaimed. Luckily Ul'dah hadn't been directly hit and the only damage was with the cheapest abodes that couldn't withstand the passing of Bahamut. The Dehqon family, however, wasn't as fortunate. Their house was one of the cheap ones that caved in from the sheer pressure of the primal's flight, then ransacked by someone who'd taken this opportunity to steal from the unguarded houses. Everybody was devastated, but Haia wouldn't let anybody wallow in the rubble and self-pity. Everybody, including the fearful Inja, would have to find work to help rebuild.

Inja thought of signing up to become an adventurer, but choked up the moment she had to squish a few wasps that hurt her more with their stings than she could do with a long stick. There were other options where she could avoid being around large groups but not entirely alone, so she went through the process of proving she had the skills needed by Sunsilk Tapestries. She'd been working there to earn a meager sallary while also studying with the thaumaturges, but she was only really doing that just to be able to sleep in their quiet halls.

Friends:

((Any name in red means no Wiki yet so get on it if I listed you!))

Diamante Santiago: A strange man, but cheerful.

Howling Wildfire: A very tall roegadyn who is friendly if a little quiet. Inja thinks her mountainous culture is strange.

Rakka'sae Kuhn: She wasn't expecting to see him again, but they met again with the usual awkwardness.

Abaigeal Causland: A hyur woman whom Inja was first very wary of, but was soon grateful for when she provided a distraction from something even worse. She needs to learn more about this woman, but for now she's a potential friend. Inja has said her farewells to Abaigeal quickly to avoid interfering with her work and doesn't expect to see the Hyur again.

Uther Skystrider: A hyur man who seems interested in joining the same Free Company that she wishes to join. They went on a training exercise together which ended with a wonderful success, but he showed concern when she admitted later to being badly shaken by it.

Isaac Jacobi: She doesn't know much about the man, other than his interest in Garlean magitech and, hopefully, turning it against the Empire. She'll keep a careful distance from him and his devices until she trusts both man and magitech more, and hearing the way he spoke to an armed elezen made her even more wary of saying or doing something to anger him.

Rhu'to Brom: It turns out that he's a private investigator and took a keen interest when Inja started talking about problems with some customs inspectors. His investigations saw through the lies being told to Inja, but something went wrong after he'd recovered her things.

Kiyone Bloodrose: She and Inja have talked a couple of times, mostly about whatever book Kiyone had or cooking. Inja hasn't seen Kiyone more than a couple of times but hopes to become friends with a woman who shares the same awkward shyness and sense of modesty.

Kaed Farsight: A fellow scholar who has been helping her learn to harness the aether and overcoming her fears. He's the only person who fell for her first attempt to joke in a long time.

Lorric Wright: A hyur who was nice to her and shared the secret of ginger tea to settle seasickness. He didn't seem to mind her social awkwardness at all.
