General Information

Born on the 14th Day of the 2nd Umbral Moon, J'siris Tia is a Miqo'te Seeker of the Sun. A free-spirit, J'siris grew up the middle child of three half-brothers with a "baby" half-sister, in an off-shoot of Tribe Jackal. For the longest time, he remained in the tribe until his sister set off on her own when she was barely of age. J'siris left soon after, partly to begin his own life, and partly to seek out his sister in an effort to keep her safe. Since then, J'siris has become one of the many Adventurers who travel across the realm of Eorzea.
Over time, J'siris became involved in mercenary work, and made a name for himself in underground crime rings, mercenary circles and fight-clubs, earning the title of "The Death Hand", for his strength, agility and lethal accuracy.
J'siris is currently affiliated with the Fera Intus Free Company, having followed his little sister. J'siris currently resides at a room in the Quicksand, but he also stays with his little sister in her home in the Goblet.

Appearance

Height: 6 Fulm, 1 Ilm - J'siris is tall for a male Miqo'te, and can use this to his advantage during physical altercations.
Weight: Approximately 205 Ponz - Much of J'siris' weight comes from his well-toned and muscular frame, as well as his height.
Body: Tall, athletic and strong, with lean, well-toned muscles, akin to the build of a soldier. J'siris is a brawler and adventurer, and he has not only the strength of such, but also the build to show for it. Like all Miqo'te, he possesses strong legs and dexterous hands. Due to his years of fighting and survival in underground rings, out in the frontier lands, as well as the Sagoli, his torso, arms and legs are criss-crossed with faded scars: cuts, slash wounds, even bullet holes. One of his most striking features is his very long, very fluffy and expressive tail with sleek black fur.
Complexion: A deep, dark, rich umber brown; warm in tone and evocative of the rich, nurturing black soil. His body bears the scars of many adventures and many brawls, yet his face is handsome and free (for the most part) of scars and blemishes. Save for the typical miqo'te male markings and some tattoos around his eyes, he appears fresh-faced and young.
Face: In a word, handsome. His eyes are a very striking, mid-tone blue, very kind, his lips full, and his tattoos only add to his features, instead of detracting from them. He takes after his mother.
Hair: Thick, black and shiny. He keeps it fairly short and tied back, though the bangs frame his face.
Fashion: In a word, scruffy. J'siris does present as being clean, but he has a rugged look to him, preferring blacks and browns, or deeper-toned reds, greens and various hues of yellow and gold. J'siris isn't shy about dressing in a manner that is flattering, or even revealing.

Personality

Outwardly, J'siris is an easy-going man, quick to smile and laugh, and is genuinely friendly to most anyone he encounters. He radiates the presence of a free-spirit, and has a way of calming those who are fearful, shy or tense with the ease of an older brother. He warms up quickly to most anyone and enjoys a bit of idle conversation. He projects an aura of being a "ditzy doof": very casual, playful and even a little scatter-brained.
Loyal and calm with a kind smile and even kinder - if sad - eyes, J'siris is a patient man. He is observant, empathetic and has a deeply-held sense of justice, right and wrong, as well as compassion. J'siris is a fiercely protective man. Anyone and everyone of whom he calls family or a friend he will fight to death to keep safe, often performing dubious or even illegal acts if it means that loved one can be made safe, free, and healthy and whole. But as the old adage goes: "Beware the fury of a patient man." J'siris is a kind man, but he is also not a man to be tested or forced beyond his limits. He is a firm believer of accountability, and holding those who have committed a wrong-doing to their actions, demanding justice and recompense.
Even if he must do so in violent ways.
J'siris has a darker side. For many years, he was a part of violent underground fight-clubs, crime rings, and worked as a mercenary. The things he had said, done and witnessed left behind many scars on his mind and soul. Over time, he gained the title of "The Death Hand", after a legendary monk of whom could kill anyone and anything with a single strike. Indeed very strong, J'siris does not hesitate in taking a life, even when the spilling of unnecessary blood saddens or disturbs him.
Those that are upon the receiving end of his brand of justice never live for long. Since then, he's become a pacifist, only fighting in self-defense or the defense of a loved one.
Like his father and his half-siblings, J'siris has a strong sense of faith in the goddess, Azeyma the Warden. While not as faithful as his sister, J'siris does hold the goddess in high-regard and frequently invokes her.

Abilities and Skills

J'siris is a very, very strong brawler. A skilled fist-fighter, he made a name for himself in under-ground mercenary and criminal circles and fight-clubs when he was younger and wilder, more restless. For most opponents, he can match their strength with his own, or over-power them. With Au Ra and Roegadyns, he can use their strength against them in devastating ways. He's agile, strong, and skilled in applying the right amount of force need to either be lethal, or simply to prove a point.
J'siris has an interest in taking up arms as a marksman, showing interest in archery and in the use of the fancy rifles and gadgets those Machinists use. Might take him a while, however, before he can really get the hang of it, and his history as a brawler won't ever really leave him.
Eventually, J'siris grew tired of the violent, unstable lifestyle as a career brawler, mercenary and cage-fighter, and simply up and left. Burdened by guilt, J'siris eventually made his way back home, where he met a visiting retired Fist of Rhalger and learning some of the meditation techniques of the Monk order. He learned to find peace within himself, as well a new-found mental and physical discipline. He now fights in a very calm, controlled and more "pacifist" fashion, preferring non-lethal take-downs.
J'siris is also a talented carpenter and wood-carver, often making little trinkets, toys, and other such things from his woodworking. It's a hobby he retained from his old, peaceful life in his home tribe with his family, and it's the chosen profession he's expressed an interest in taking on full-time. He's also an excellent cook, and skilled in herbs, poultices and taking an interest in alchemic medicines.
J'siris is primarily a physical fighter, and really has no talent in the magical arts or disciplines. Doesn't mean he didn't try his hand, and he can use a simple healing spell or two to patch up injuries, but only as a supplement to more traditional methods of first aid.

History/Background

Pre-Calamity

Early Life
J'siris was born on 14th Day of the 2nd Umbral Moon in the Sagoli Desert, to to a smaller off-shoot tribe of Tribe Jackal. This tribe was a more peaceful tribe, more akin to a loosely-connected network of small villages and settlements, and was populated mainly by artisans and Disciples of the Hand and Disciples of the Land. Art, crafting, trade, scholarly pursuits and other such trades were commonly practiced and encouraged. This tribe made their vocations by trading hand-crafted goods to traveling merchants or other Seeker tribes in the Sagoli, some of which traveling all the way to Ul'dah.
J'siris is the middle of three half-brothers, all sired by J'rah Nunh, and I'sis Nevarre. The Nunh treated each of his sons and their mothers equally and with great affection. Some years later, The three brothers gained a baby sister: J'baste Ava from a Keeper woman named Ava Burwani who joined the tribe, and was an old and true love of J'rah Nunh, from back in the Adventuring Days.
J'siris' childhood was a happy one, and he grew up loved, cared for and well-adjusted. He adored his baby sister, and the two were often seen together, maintaining a close bond to this day. J'siris shared in his sister's dreams of becoming an Adventurer and seeing the world, though he was also content to become a humble wood carver. He always did have a care-free approach to life, and became a very patient, loyal and loving individual, with a strong protective streak.
Dalamud's Fall: The Calamity
J'siris' peaceful life continued well into his teens. It was during this time he had begun to truly nurture his talents in wood-carving, herbalism and particularly in cooking. It was also during this time he had become a more steadying presence in his sister's life, often at odds with the wishes of his eldest brother and his father. In memory of of Reisz, J'siris attempted to keep the peace and encourage his sister's dream of becoming an Adventurer.
But one night, during a heated argument, J'siris failed to keep tempers from flaring, and J'baste ran away from home. Days later, the Calamity occurred.
The family, realizing their grave mistake, mourned. J'siris along side them.
Interim
In the five years that followed after the Calamity, J'siris fell into emotional turmoil, before leaving to find his little sister. Much to his joy, two years later, they were reunited. Much to his sorrow, J'baste needed her family more than ever - as well as his protection.
In an effort to protect his family and by extension his home, J'siris fell into the underground circles of crime, fight clubs and mercenary work. He committed many crimes – things he wasn't proud of – all to protect his sister and his family as she went into hiding. He soon joined her.
Only when the coast was clear, he isolated himself in the frontier lands.

Post Calamity/Recent History

A Realm Reborn
Eventually at the age of 21, J'baste, now Chee, entered Ul'dah to begin a new life for herself. During this time, J'siris returned home in an effort to heal himself and find peace in a new chapter in his life. He settled back into home tribal life tentatively, and then soon found himself lost, and increasingly angry and violent.
Enter Ceolmund Duskwalker, a retired First of Rhlagr of whom served in the Ala Mhigan resistance against the Garlean empire. Ceolmund eventually grew wary of the constant heart-ache, anger and sense of loss. Attempting to leave it all behind - including Ala Mhigo - he traveled to the home tribe of J'siris, meeting the young, angry Seeker. Ceolmund quickly become J'siris' mentor in much the same way Reisz was one to J'baste/Chee. Having long suffered a life of hardship and sorrow, Ceolmund was given a perspective of peace, acceptance and a new-found sense of seeking out compassion and justice. He taught J'siris the mental and physical techniques employed by the Monks, in an effort to guide the hurting and angry youth.
Needless to say, Ceolmund was successful, and J'siris began to feel a peace settle in over his heart and soul after many years of fighting and hurting in his young life.
Heavensward
As the Warrior of Light enters Ishgard, sparking an era of great change and as Chee continues her own adventures, J'siris has long since settled back into his tribal life, enjoying a peaceful existence in the company of his family and his new mentor.
Because of this, he had gained a new philosophy of compassion, pacifism and valuing justice and being open and loving above all else.
Coelmund considered this a success, much to the relief of J'siris' family. Even still, he still worried for his sister, eagerly anticipating a reunion.
As Goes Light, So Goes Darkness
Chee had returned home, upon receiving news of their father's illness and soon-to-be death. While the circumstances were tragic at worse and bittersweet at best, the family - particularly J'siris - welcomed back their sister and daughter.
J'siris was happier still to hear that she and their father, J'rah Nunh, reconciled and forgave each other, and that she was happy, safe and well, and enjoying the love and companionship of a Keeper named Lofen Melocuil.
J'siris' mission was a success, and his family safe and whole. Or so he believed.
Gears of Change
With the realm of Eorzea itself changing upon the efforts of the Warrior of Light, so to had J'siris' life. Much to his dismay, his sister returned home in a great deal of pain and heart-ache.
Lofen had betrayed and abandoned her. Her happiness, her sense of peace, her faith in the Warden and in Love itself shattered, and her very soul broken. She stayed in hiding for a time, back at her home tribe. But her mind and soul was in turmoil, this much J'siris knew.
When Chee left to return to Ul'dah, J'siris watched after her, knowing that she would soon need her brother once more.
Revenge of the Horde
Upon receiving a letter from his little sister, J'siris was compelled to act. After seeking the counsel of his brothers and his mentor, he ventured out once more of his home tribe, seeking out Chee in an effort to help his baby sister. All he knows is that something is very wrong, and she needs him to be there.
And thus, he has come to Ul'dah… While well-traveled, it has been many years since he last stepped foot into any of the City-States of Eorzea, and is thus very much an outsider. Even still, he is here, and he is here to stay.
Soul Surrender
With Chee's emotional scars finally beginning to heal, albeit slowly at the promise of a new chapter in life with a new tentative love, J'siris finds himself at a cross-roads. Not wanting to leave her when she is still so fragile, J'siris followed her in joining Sabotender Venturing, keeping an eye on the new boyfriend. Sadly, Chee's new-found love with J'tehn Tia would be short-lived and the pair were cast out due to tragic circumstances, as well as shameful words and shameful hurts and actions. Once more, his sister is in peril, and heart-broken.
But about him? What about the J'siris who acted for his own happiness? His own pride? Questions raised by a new friend and acquaintance led to his own introspection, even when busy caring for his ever-more-fragile sister. Questions that will yet determine his next path in life.
Such questions, however, would be placed on hold as his sister falls deeper into turmoil.
The Far Edge of Fate (Present Day)
Rumors and whispers of war resonate; The Ala Mhigan Resistance, the Empire, and the Eorzean Alliance about to be pulled into a bloody conflict by the actions of angry zealots. But all of that doesn't matter to J'siris. With his little sister in deeper turmoil and withdrawn into a hollow shell, he too withdraws, becoming increasingly angry and distant. What more can be done, for for the loyal brother?
It turns out, J'siris needn't had to have worried for so long. Chee has a few very close, very good friends of whom helped shake her out of her depression and turmoil, allowing the woman to reforge herself into something stronger than steel. On top of that, his sister's new work with Nymian Crystals and new love in the form a Seeker named Nix has helped to heal her shattered heart and soul, with Nix eager to share his life with her, having shared similar experiences and pain. J'siris, now more at ease, gives the couple his blessing, and is now able to begin truly focusing on himself. Even with his sister going to war on the front in Gyr Albania, J'siris is hopeful for the future.
While Chee and her beloved Nix are to be on the front, fighting for the liberation of Ala Mhigo, J'siris will remain at home, seeking out his own adventures, his own new purpose and helping his sister in smaller ways... ...Such as keeping those precious Nymian Crystals in safe hands.
It remains to be seen on what will occur for J'siris in the given future...

Family Relations

♥   ♥ Chee Smith – Birth name, J'baste Ava. A Miqo'te Seeker of the Sun, and J'siris' half-sister. Ever since childhood, the two have been very close, with J'siris being her strongest protector and most staunch ally in times of crisis, as well as sharing similar temperaments. During a recent crisis, Chee/J'baste remains his top priority and his main concern.
♥   ♥ Mercedes – A cute little Coeurl Kitten. Loyal, affectionate and mischievous, Mercedes is Chee’s pet cat and ever-present companion. The little kitty goes where Chee goes, usually riding along in her pack, perched on her shoulder, or following along behind. Mercedes seems to act as J'siris's self-appointed "keeper", for when he gets himself lost, and the two appear to constantly "snark" at each other, in the way cats and cat-lovers will do. (Mercedes the Coeurl Kitten was named for my IRL cat, who named for the Dragon's Dogma character.)
♥   ♥ Julien – A tiny stray black cat. Upon moving into her new home, Chee discovered a tiny, scraggly little ball of black fluff mewling pitifully. Falling in love with the tiny kitten, Chee took the little thing into her home, naming him "Julien" and adopting him. When J'siris finally came to Ul'dah, he took over caring for the kitten, helping his ailing sister nurse the little fluffball back to health, and now the little kitty is his loyal, cuddly, companion... Much to Chee's chagrin. Julien can often be seen climbing on J'siris, perching on his shoulder or even the top of his head. (Julien the Black Kitten was named for my IRL cat, who named for the Dragon's Dogma character, though said cat is female irl. Julien the Black Kitten is also a "in memoriam" character, effectively immortalizing the IRL Julien after her recent passing...)

Positive Relations

♦   ● Destiney Delvanguard – An Elezen Wildwood. Happening upon her by chance while getting lost in The Mist while searching out The Goblet (he's not certain how exactly that happened), he found that this young Elezen woman was a dear friend of Chee's, akin to a sister of hers, and was most happy to meet her.
♥  ♦ Phoenix Lemathen - A Miqo'te Seeker of the Sun. "Nix" for short. This former Sultansworn turned Adventurer stumbled into Chee's life through the curious events regarding the ancient magics of Nymian Crystals and their effect on Soulstones. Sparking an aetheric connection, Nix quickly fell in love with Chee, and she in turn with him. J'siris, however, was skeptical until a stern confrontation via linkpearl and face-to-face meeting gave the protective older brother all he needed to know. That unlike the others of whom had broken Chee's heart, Nix is a man of honor and empathy. As much as J'siris likes the fellow Seeker, he maintains a careful eye. Just to be safe! Over time, J'siris warmed to Nix, and now happily accepts the man as a future brother-in-law!

Neutral Relations

  ● Berkeley Ianotouta - A Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon. Cousin of Branna'a, and a seventh Son. Something about Keeper Traditions. The younger one is calmer and much more polite than his rogueish cousin, and J'siris took to the lad easily. J'siris has not seen Berkeley since their initial meeting, and the Seeker has all but forgotten the boy.

Negative Relations

♠   ♠ Branna'a Ianotouta - A Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon. The First Son of House Ianotouta. Initial impressions of this male Keeper were that he was impulsive and a flirt, nothing to really be concerned about. Turned out the two men got along fairly well, with J'siris' kindness and big-brother instincts pushing past the Keeper's skittish walls. Recent developments regarding Chee, however, may change things. Branna'a has subsequently disappeared, promising Chee his love, and than abandoning her... A fact of which had neutralized any and all good will, and as such, J'siris hates the Keeper.

Misc.

The following is a collection of OOC notes, trivia bits, RP Hooks and otherwise. :D

RP Hooks

  • J'siris presents as something of a "ditzy doof", and while very sensible and well-traveled, he does have the striking tendency of getting lost. Leads to all sorts of interesting misadventures…
  • J'siris is a kind man, friendly, out-going and very patient with people.
  • J'siris is often accompanied by either his sister's cat, Mercedes (a Coeurl Kitten), or his own kitten, Julien, a little black kitten.
  • J'siris has a very long, fluffy tail. Super fluffy. Think akin to a Maine Coon.
  • J'siris has an air of calm, and may approach someone of whom is shy or need of a friend... or even a big brother.
  • J'siris likes to flirt, albeit he is shy around cute girls. Actually, he gets most terribly, hilariously flustered around cute girls! That said he is most respectful of women, and makes great care to ensure their trust in him, never intentional encroaching a boundary, and always backing away if he does. In short, he's a sweet-heart and a gentleman.

What I Will RP:

  • General RP
  • Character-based/Plot-Line RP: I love character-based stories and long-term plot-lines! :D
  • Slice-of-Life RP: Ordinary, quiet moments and slice-of-life adventures in-between the grand epic "greatest tales never told" RP are great! :D

Will I Will RP, But Ask First:

  • Mature Themes. I’m open to most things, as long as you brief me via OOC tells or otherwise before, during or after a session. If anything, I welcome mature themes.
  • Injuries/Torture. I'm mean to my baby, and I occasionally like testing his limits. Injuries, fights/duels or torture scenes are fine, but I would before a little bit of OOC briefing, and if I feel uncomfortable, I may ask for a "fade-to-black", or implications. This includes temporary imprisonment, physical, mental or emotional injuries that can be recovered from given an appropriate amount of time, etc.

Will I Will RP, With Very Strict Boundaries - Communication is an Absolute Must!:

  • Romantic RP. Being a romantic at heart, I'm a fan of romance subplots, and love using such plots in my own works and story-telling. That being said, I' have recently come out of a Romantic RP plot of which everything that did go, had gone wrong, and all parities involved have been hurt. I will only Romance RP if both players can agree to it OOC, if the characters "click", and if both players agree to communicate, collaborate and be willing to do some light pre-planning or retcons, and negotiate if there are problems. For sake of my own sanity and mental health, I ask to please respect those boundaries.
  • ERP RP. Please see above for Romantic RP. As much as I do enjoy the occasional roll-in-the-hay, I reserve the right to decline or ask to 'fade-to-black' or time-skips. I will only ERP if both players can agree to it OOC, if the characters "click", and if both players agree to communicate, collaborate and be willing to do some light pre-planning or retcons, and negotiate if there are problems. For sake of my own sanity and mental health, I ask to please respect those boundaries.

What I will NOT RP:

  • Lore-breaking. The occasional bit of lore-bending is fine, as meta, characters and stories change and grow. And I adore enjoy lore-friendly theory-crafting and head canons! :D That being said, let's try to be as consistent to game-lore as possible.
  • Death/Disablement/Maiming of my character or another. There can be injuries or fights/duels, but I draw the line at crippling injuries, disfigurements or death, unless I specifically agree before a session that such injuries or perma-death is ok. The same standard applies for rape/sexual assault, or long-term imprisonment.

Fun Stuff and Trivia

  • J'siris' name was derived from the Egyptian God, Osiris. (Ausir is one of the alternative spellings). Osiris is the God of Death, and considered to the be the Ruler of the Afterlife, with a firm and wise hand, with his wife Isis at his side. He often seen a pale-skinned maned in mummy's wrapping, to further emphasize his status as the God of Death. Osiris and Isis have a son named Horus, and Osiris was murdered by the God Seti (or Set), out of jealousy from Seti. Isis was able to revive her husband. J'siris, of course has some ties to his Godly namesake, via his alias of Ausir, and his title of "the Death Hand". J'siris also has his brothers… J'seti and J'horus, and his mother I'sis. XD Further note, J'baste's namesake, Bastet, is more aligned with Rah/Ra, of whom is a rival to Osiris. Huh.
  • J'siris is Asexual. He is open to Romantic relationships, but is sex-repulsed. Should he ever get into a romance with someone, I would ask for a "fade-to-black", or a "time-shift" during intimate scenes.
  • J'siris' title of "The Death hand" comes from an old SquareEnix game I love, Seiken Densetsu 3, and one of the Advanced Job Classes the character Kevin can obtain over the course of the game. J'siris also shares some character traits with my canonical Legend of Mana Hero, Kaleb M'ayvare – a kind, gentle, observant and very patient young man. What can I say? I adore writing loving and empathetic male characters… who can kick all sorts of ass when pressed. :D
  • J'siris himself was always meant to be a loving male character - like the perfect big brother - in response to some very recent and very painful OOC RP drama, and the subsequent loss of a friend. I'm still hurting from that, and J'siris was born out of a aching for some catharsis, and was originally mean to be a violent "Herald of Justice/Avenger" kind of character. That idea was quickly dropped, because it was silly, and the kinder, more loving J'siris is more appealing to me. He still has some of those traits, as they are a core of his character, but no-longer his "purpose". What his purpose will be now, even I'm not sure.
  • J'siris is a goober. Not as much of a goober as his sister, but a goober all the same.
  • Associated Music: The Riverlands - Brunuhville, The Ghost and the Darkness Soundtrack - Lions Attack (2:00 mark onward), Borne in Blood "Illithid Puppeteer" (Original Bloodborne inspired album) - Alex Roe, City of the Dead - Eurielle. Now you know.

About the Player

  • I absolutely adore lore-friendly theory-crafting, head canons and meta about both characters, plots, general lore and besides, and I may try to incorporate such ideas into my rp sessions. That said, I will try to be as lore-friendly or lore-consistent as possible.
  • I've been heavily involved in the fandom communities for art and solo-writing (primarily fanfiction) for many, many years. While no stranger to character development and story-telling, I consider myself relatively inexperienced in RP in-general (1 year thus far), and I do prefer having more ooc briefing or communication. I tend to see RP as two (or more!) co-authors writing a story, more than anything else, so please bear with me as I continue to navigate the wild-west story-telling that is RP.
  • I am terribly shy, as well as a curmudgeon when it comes to RP. I'm slow to trust people, and as much as I do enjoy RP, I must insist on strict boundaries. If you're not certain, please ask me. I'm also terrified of asking people, so please let me know it's okay to ask you for RP, and please feel free to ask me! I also prefer being able to schedule set times and dates, setting, etc. for RP sessions, give or take schedules.
