Style
Proud, almost noble. Average Many, his torso is covered in
rough ropey scars, several
look like they ought to have killed him.
A strange glowing glyph
extends beyond his eyepatch.
Rough, to the point, practical.
Hair & Eyes
He keeps his hair pulled back, makes it easier to fight, his right eye is ever covered with a blue eyepatch. He never takes it off willingly, a scar also runs down behind it.
Physique & Markings
Jax is a big guy, he stands at nearly seven feet tall, and is built like a brick house, strong and stable.
Hygiene & Attire
Jax is always clean when he can be, meticulously so. Though his profession often prevents this. Most of the time he wears his armor, mostly leather, maille and some pieces of plate. When he isn’t in his armor, he wears very loose fitting clothing, usually of fine make.
Personality
Psychological Profile
VIRTUOSO PERSONALITY (ISTP, -A/-T)
Voice
Deep, resonant. His voice is powerful and mostly confident. Dennis Quaid
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Jax has a firm belief that he shouldn’t make friends of any sorts, because of the danger that he represents to them in the event of catastrophic eyepatch failure. He tends to be outgoing, but only generally when he is attempting to get work. He likes to carry his flask with him everywhere, it’s almost as important as his eyepatch.
Preferences
Likes
Single Malt Scotch. Nothing warms the blood like a good scotch, the smoky flavor really helps him to relax.
Tasteless Booze. When the job needs doing, generally the only shield he has against his demons.
Good Company. Though reluctant to make friends, when he does, he goes all in.
Free Food. I mean, obviously. Who doesn’t love free food.
Dislikes
Fish. The taste tends to grind against his pallet.
Archers. Fuckers always give him the worst scars.
Voidsent. Ruined his life, but the irony is clear these days.
Explosives. Boom. Nuffsaid.
Skills
Swordsmanship. It’s how he makes his living. Good enough
Survival. In the wild, he’s a good ally to have, tracking, hunting, building fires, the works.
Carving. Small wooden baubles, usually quite intricate. Something to distract the mind and eye.
Brewing Moonshine. ...or paint thinner, depending who you talk to.

History
Information found in this section will not be known to your character unless Jax mentions it.
Disclaimer: This section will be heavily edited and updated as his story continues.
Sixth Astral Era
Childhood
Jackson was born Aldric Jeriviant, to Fabien and Valériane, minor nobles. As nobility, his childhood was fairly predictable, his youth was filled with education and martial training in hopes of getting into the Temple Knights. As a boy he tended to get into trouble, once putting a few rocks through a window or two. The worst by far, however is when he got into a very real fight with a member of one of the four great houses, it nearly cost his family all of their titles.

In his teens he was far more regimented, having finished the majority of his basic martial training as well as continuing to broaden his mind in his studies, though by no means a genius. His first young love arose in a young half-elezen woman he met in foundation one day during one of his walks around the city. Her name was Séphora, a pretty red-haired slip of a girl. She way laying in a pile of garbage with a spreading red stain on her shirt, her eyes flicking rapidly beneath her eyelids. He approached cautiously, guessing she may be dying. He dropped to his knees to tend to her wounds, and no sooner did he touch her shirt did her eyes flick open, a wicked smile on her lips, and kneed him squarely in the crotch. He came to his senses a few moments later, his money gone, and a new wild fascination burning in his belly. He sought after her for days under the guise of justice to a thief, though he found no information from the guard. He spoke with commoners, barkeeps, and the riffraff of the city until finally he picked up the scent and tracked her to a small building squished between a larger pair. Sure enough she was there, counting up coins and various stones. She looked up with a start when he entered, she obviously recognized him, looking like a cat about to dart to safety. He spoke to her at length, explaining he meant no harm, and just wanted to learn more about her. From there they spent nearly every day together when his schedule could allow it, often committing petty theft and the like. It didn’t take long before their relationship deepened and came to a head with the infamous nude portrait. Jax had learned that Séphora didn’t simply steal paintings, but was quite skilled with a brush herself when she asked him to pose nude for her. And he did so without question, for he was deeply in love with her. At least until she reproduced and distributed it throughout Ishgard, a long lengthy prank on a foolish noble boy. He never did find her again.

After that he cleaned himself up and moved on with a great deal of hard work tracking down each and every portrait. A few years later he joined the military. His time in the military was relatively uneventful until the calamity rolled around, desperate to help the world as a whole and not just deal with Ishgardian internal struggles, he left Ishgard, signing on with a free company and fighting alongside the three nations of the south. If it weren’t for a stroke of sheer luck, he would have died, he managed to fall into an open pit and knocked himself unconscious. Waking after the fact was horror incarnate, charred bodies and lingering magic were everywhere, and the landscape changed forever. He wandered home to Ishgard in a daze, his commanding officer less than pleased at his going AWOL. Something had affected him however, during the calamity something had affected his being, touched him deeper than he knew.

Seventh Umbral Era
Adulthood
A few years passed after the calamity, and Aldric finally managed to join the Temple Knights, he gritted his teeth and pushed through the grueling training and beatings the commanders gave him, he’d seen hell and this was nothing comparatively. His mindset was somewhat elitist, after all, he’d gone to the REAL fight to defend Eorzea. His determination to prove his worth eventually paid off. He won himself a command, a squad consisting of eleven soldiers calling its self the Blood Spears. After a year with the Spears, Aldric was promoted and given command of a full platoon to march on Anx Trine, the mission was mostly a success, Aldric lost two squads but killed seven dragons. Three of which Aldric dealt the killing blow himself. Without the help of his second in command, Fulbert, he would have died however, as Fulbert pulled him from a dragon’s jaws.

On the way back to foundation, something happened, something unspeakable. As the Spears marched into the highlands of Coerthas, a steady freezing wind began to blow. Snow began to fall, muffling the sound around their remaining men. A sharp pain shot through Aldric’s body, lighting his nerves on fire. A black viscous fluid began leaking from his right eye, followed by a slow fading of his vision from that eye.

Pain, like nothing he had ever felt lanced through his eye, a reddish radiance coming forth from the right side of his face, visible only barely from his left eye. A laugh… deeper and darker than the void echoed from somewhere beyond his perception. In front of him, his men marched, unknowing, desperate to return to their families at home… and he watched, unwilling as his arm moved, he could feel it, as though he were a puppet on the strings of some malicious entity, and drew his sword. The silvery metal glowed with a haunting blue-white light as the snow fell and settled on the blade. His body darted forward, faster than he had ever thought possible…with this sort of speed he could have saved the men who died fighting at Anyx Trine.

His sword shot out, a cold scything arc, catching Fulbert just below the navel, and cleaving through like a coal dropped into snow. Blood and viscera splattered out of his torso like a broken chamber pot, his torso turning in midair as it fell, Fulbert’s eyes wide, the word ‘why’ on his lips as the light faded from the starting eyes. Aldric watched helplessly as his body made similarly quick work of all of his remaining men, shifting from one to the next in a bloody dance, his veins ablaze with indescribable pain.

Each of his men died that day…at his own hands and out of his control. His body did not cease there however, it proceeded to ‘decorate’ with the remains of his fallen comrades, all the while whispering to him as whatever was controlling him forced him to watch. For hours it played with the bodies, until it saw a new plaything appear, a short man in a dust colored cloak, head tilted. Raising a hand, the cloaked man shot a bolt of energy at Aldric, and his consciousness mercifully faded, he hoped this was death.

He woke days later, the man in the cloak tending his wounds. Aldric could not see from his right eye, the man explained this was due to an eyepatch designed to seal whatever it was within him. The man called himself Ferdinand, a skilled mage and historian. He explained to Aldric that if he were to return, he would be executed, as the only survivor of the massacre of his forces and the evidence pointed to murder. He gave Aldric a new name, Jackson Blodworth. Little did Jax know at the time though, that Ferdinand had plans for him, within a few days, Jax recovered beyond expectations, and attempted to return to see his family, Ferdinand had anticipated this, and followed Jax to his home. As Jax arrived home, he was welcomed by his family with grave concern, and wonder at his new appearance, the eyepatch on his face and the new scars.

And that was when, his family in tears for his survival and return, Ferdinand released the magic on the patch. And Jax, Aldric, was forced to watch as he once more rent into flesh and gore with haunting laughter on his lips. His sister screamed as he pulled her apart with his bare hands. His father put a sword through his chest, attempting to kill the monster that his son had become. A grin peeled back Jax’s lips, bloody teeth glinting in the light, his hand shooting out like a snake striking at a mouse, and ripped his father’s throat out.

His mother fell to her knees, her dress soaking up the blood of her children and husband. Jax knelt before her, thumb gently stroking her cheek before saying in an utterly cold voice “Now, now, don’t cry everything is fine mother.” Before jamming a dagger to the hilt into her eye. His family dead at his own hands, and his home covered in the blood of his younger siblings, Ferdinand reactivated the seal. Pleased with himself.

Jax’s fury and self-loathing shined through, staving off the mental break edging closer with every moment. He Lunged at Fedrinand, exacting a small revenge, taking his left arm before the mage escaped. Eye sealed, his family’s blood on his hands, Jax fled. He spent several years wandering the wilderness in an aimless stupor, covered in filth and grime, surviving only on instinct, not thinking, not conscious to his actions. He carved small trinkets from the trees around him, anything to drive his metaphorical demons back into their shadowed grottos.

After those years he stumbled his way into Limsa Lominsa, bought a change of clothes with what little he was able to scrounge together, and with his sword managed to carve out a living. He called his sword Valériane, in memory of his mother and family and swore that one day he’d have his vengeance, but could not do that until he was mostly whole again.

In Recent Times
Moving Forward
In recent years, Jax has taken up his sword for many causes, fighting Garleans at every turn it seems like. He has become embroiled in almost every war in the last few years in service to one person or another. Occasionally he takes up as a bodyguard, though recently someone knocked off his eyepatch, much to the detriment of those around him. He met Keziah Mistral amidst a pile of bodies, pinned to the ground with arrows. She replaced his eyepatch after her war bird Arulaq kicked him squarely in the chest. He has since travelled with her to attempt to remedy his condition.

Jax has also recently taken up with a deposed Doman noble who claimed at the time of their meeting he was the only competent fighter he had managed to recruit up to now.

NPC
Séphora, young love. ()
Character's Thoughts: "One day we will meet again, and I’m going to punch you right in the face."
Séphora was Jax’s first love, she made a nude portrait of him and mass produced it to ruin his reputation.
Fabien Jeriviant, Father. ()
Character's Thoughts: “Thank you for trying…I wish you had been successful.”
Fabien was a strict man, pushing Aldric (Jax) to be a better man than he at any cost. He wanted the best for his son, and often became the bad guy in Aldric’s eyes because of that.
Valériane Jeriviant, Mother . ( )
Character's Thoughts: “Your face will forever haunt my dreams…”
Valériane was a kind woman, often pampering her children when her husband was too harsh in her opinion, always doting on her daughters.
Catherine Jeriviant, Youngest Sister . ()
Character's Thoughts: “You deserved a stronger brother, not the monstrosity I became, you were taken too early”
Jax’s youngest sister, Cat or Kitty in private, was a sweet girl, still very young when she died. Aldric often brought her sweets and played with her in his spare time. He loved her, it is her death that has haunted him most.
Fulbert, Best Friend, Second. ()
Character's Thoughts: You’ll always be my best friend, but you deserved better.”
Fulbert looked up to Aldric, he followed him without question for years, best friends as children, and even better as adults, they watched each other’s backs.
Ferdinand, Hated Enemy. ()
Character's Thoughts: "I will find you, and your pain will be exquisite.”
Ferdinand is the one who sealed Jax’s demons within him, and also the one who unleashed them on his family.
PC
Keziah Mistral, a friend…something more . ()
Character's Thoughts: "You’ve given me hope again.”
Everyone needs their knight in shining armor, it just ended up that Jax’s savior was a woman in red rather than a burly man in plate. They’ve delved into darkness side by side, all the while she has supported him, carrying him through the night and into the light once more. He would go through hell for her, and already has in a manner of speaking.
Takeda Heitaro Kinsuke, Leader and Friend. ($)
Character's Thoughts: "Purpose, purpose is good, now point me at the enemy.”
Jax has never really had a cause to fight for, wars are idealized things for most, nations fighting nations, on the ground though, it’s man against man. Kinsuke’s plight rings close to home for Jax, it’s something for him to focus on and possibly ground himself to.
Stabbin Deeply, Friend. ()
Character's Thoughts: "Seriously, who the hell gave you that name?”
How did I even run into this guy? I mean, I’d heard that some Lalafell are strange, but this little guy is ridiculous, the epitome of a jack of all trades, master of none, every time we’ve met he’s been trying something else, and usually failing. He’s a pretty good healer though…
Geneviéve Jeriviant, Eldest Sister . ( )
Character's Thoughts: “If you still live, I will find you.”
Gen, the oldest of Jax’s two younger sisters, used to be his closest friend before the tragedy in his home, he did not find her body in the aftermath, she may yet live.

IC Inventory
The following items are things that this individual carries on their person at all times. These are noted for pickpockets, and those watching her closely. This information is meant to be a prompt for insight and is not to be meta-gamed, though feel free to use this information if it comes up logically in RP (pickpocketing, a search, etc) with use of a simple /tell.

Glio coinpurse.png

Valériane: His sword, blue silk wrapped hilt with golden accents, it’s his dearest possession.
His new armor: Repaired and replaced by Keziah, it still smells of fresh leather, the defensive enchantments woven into the leather are strong and keep him safe, just another way of her protecting him. It fits like a glove and is warm to the touch.
A silver flask: Full of whatever he can get his hands on, usually his own moonshine, it could strip paint if you let it sit too long. There is a symbol etched into the face of the vessel, a half moon.
A backpack: made of robust black leather, similar to his armor, holds the majority of his miscellaneous gear when he travels. It is well worn and clearly well treated. Inside it you can find his bedroll, his blanket, some food, a length of finely made silk rope, a lantern, flint and steel, as well as some other odds and ends.
Coinpurse: Jax doesn’t carry very much coin strangely enough, though he is wealthier than one might expect. He generally gives shop keeps his name, and tells them to speak with his banker who then pays the remainder.

RP Limits
Dunno, haven’t actually run into anything I’ve been unwilling to do, let’s find out!
RP Hooks
While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.
■ Spends most of his time fighting things for money, he’s good at it and is always willing to take on a contract unless he’s previously engaged.
■ Can often be found at Keziah Mistral’s side, usually being more trouble than he’s worth, or nearly getting himself killed.
■ Can be found carving intricate little shapes out of wood, sometimes small figurines and puzzles. Takes pride in his skill with woodworking.
■ Can be heard singing in his spare time if he thinks no one is around to hear him, his deep voice rumbles from his chest when he does so.
■ Someone from Ishgard could possibly recognize him if they knew him or lived near him, though he looks like he’s gone through quite a bit since then, could be someone else, who knows
