The Beginning
Janiel was born to a large family; she was the third child of four. Her immediately family was part of a nomad tribe that consisted of her extended family. All members were in some part mages, they traveled Vana'diel selling spells, talismans and potions. When Janiel was a teenager, her parents settled for a brief time in Windurst. It was there she picked up the art of Summoning. When the tribe found out, she was banished.
Forced to live on her own, she applied her trades like her forefathers. She sold potions and talismans and made her way to Rolanberry Fields. She became a hired hand for the Kells Farm, where she caught the eye of the heir, Raudulfr. The mere attraction of a peasant infuriated Raudulfr's mother, Vedis. She set thugs after Janiel, but she fought them off. Unknowning who was attacking her, Janiel crafted spells to protect her and a curse her enemy. Vedis died and Raudulfr took control of the farm and estate. He pursued Janiel and the two were soon married.
Baroness
Janiel took to running the farm quite well, but she never liked politics. She stayed away from court, but grew intensely distraught upon learning the true nature of the Grand Duke of Jeuno and his brother. The Baron and her started a rebellion, which was soon squashed. Ending with Raudulfr's end and the destruction of the estate. Nine months pregnant, Janiel fled, forced to give birth in the wild and stormy Jugner Forest. Not wanting to stop until reaching safety, a weakened Janiel marched foreward until she reached San d'Oria.
Janiel was given pity by the matriarch of the Longfall family of San d'Oria. She set up a apothecary shop, where she earned a modest income and could raise her child, Tempest. She taught her daughter relentlessly, while continuing to further her own mystic talents.
Janiel despised many of the Elvaan of San d'Oria. Many of them treated Janiel and her daughter like they were less than human. But, she did accept Sephirah into her house. He was the only person that Tempest seemed to get along with. Though she later resented him when he helped Tempest run away from home to be an adventurer.
After spending years away from home, Tempest revealed to Janiel that Vana'diel was too far in the dark to be saved. While Tempest tried to find a means to escape, Tempest was lost to the Void. Distraught, Janiel delved harder into her magic, hoping to find a way to save her daughter.
Through the Void and Onward
After years of trying to find her daughter, Tempest made contact with her mother. Janiel prepared herself for travel between realms as Tempest ripped a portal between worlds, bringing Janiel to Hydaelyn.
Janiel turned the tables on her daughter, leaving her daughter to explore her new world. She returned to try and stop her daughter from exploring with so many soulstones. She failed and Tempest was lost. First, Tempest went insane, then her body dispersed into the aether. Janiel concocted a spell to bring her back, having Ephiny do all the work.
With Tempest restored, Janiel has remained close by to help her transition back to being corporeal.
