General: Originally from the Azim Steppe in Othard, K'hora Sani was born "Horasani" and went by that name until the death of her birth mother when she was seven years old. At that time she was formally taken in by a small settlement of K tribe miqo'te that had sheltered them for three years. K'hora took a new name more in line with the naming conventions of her tribe, with a 'K' letter prefix and retained the portion of her name she shared with her mother Alusani, the last tie to her past. K'hora lived and hunted with her sisters until she turned sixteen.

Personality: K'hora is friendly and lively when engaged in conversation though she may not always initiate it with strangers. This is not out of any tendency to be shy though as she is far from it. She is fond of female company and will casually flirt with those she finds attractive. She rarely filters her speech for the sake of others and will speak honestly without care of offending others, though she is rarely vulgar. K'hora will always try to act with the common good in mind and if a rule needs to bent to do it she will not hesitate to do so. She may choose not to intervene in matters of lawbreaking, preferring to leave such matters to the Brass Blades unless she witnesses the act or a threat to civilians is present. She is a passionate woman and those passions may lead her on a course that causes difficulty for herself. Revealing or being discovered to be involved in illegal activity will not necessarily result in her being at odds with another person. If she deems the offense to be minor she will likely overlook it and not press the matter. If the offense is despicable in her view such as cold-blooded murder, or unlawful slavery, she may attempt to arrest the suspect. If witnessed personally her passions may lead to a swift judgement and punishment regardless of any consequences for vigilante action.

Appearance: At sixty-three ilms, K'hora is tall for a Xaela female. She is physically strong with an athletic build and weighs one hundred and ten ponzes. Her skin is a warm brown hue and her irises have a striking crimson tint. Her horns and scales are a little lighter in color from a distance than other Xaela. Upon closer inspection they appear to have a pearlescent luster at the ridges and a hidden iridescence that will only reveal itself under firelight. The scales and tip of her tail are smooth to the touch despite the rough appearance they give from afar. The tail itself is capable delicate movement when called for. She has full control of it when she wishes to but it will follow the whims of her emotional state and express itself with independent movement otherwise.

Scars & Markings: As a veteran soldier and adventurer before that, K'hora has numerous faded scars that appear as faint lines of a lighter color on her dark skin. Her innate healing magic has prevented all but one wound from forming any serious scar tissue in her skin so they can be seen but not felt when touched. K'hora chose not to completely erase them as they healed, preferring to keep them instead. Each scar is a link to a memory she will not allow herself to lose.

Voice: K'hora has a naturally sultry voice with a deep, rich laugh. Her early life with her adoptive tribe has lent certain Seeker Miqo'te inflections and seven years living in Ul'dah has resulted in the unusual accent Othardian Xaela find unfamiliar.

Clothing: K'hora is most often seen wearing the armor of a Flame Elite befitting her rank while on duty. Her garb is in fact an illusion fashioned by countless tiny glamour prisms sewn into her armor and clothing. The appearance of her clothing is controlled magically and is made possible by her extensive research into the tactical applications of glamours as espionage tools. As an avid dancer she often wears clothing that allows freedom of movement and/or flowing pieces intended to catch the eye as she dances. One of the more notable features of her appearance are the handcrafted ears she often wears as a headband with her casual dress. Originally made by her miqo'te sisters and styled after their own, they were given as a gift to make her feel welcome in her new home as a young child. She continues to wear them in her adult life though there have been many made and gifted since that first pair years ago.

The Immortal Flames

As an auri officer in the Immortal Flames and among the few of her race to serve with the Flames from the time of their reinstatement, she is something of a talking point among her fellow soldiers. Rumors concerning her duties have ranged from escort of diplomatic expeditions to some sources more unkindly labeling her as little better than an assassin. K'hora herself is content to let others compose whatever fictions they desire so long as it doesn't compromise her work. Her position as one of the few veteran battlemages within the ranks of the Bloodsworn is a source of pride for her and though few will ever know the extent of her classified deployments she is content to serve without the acclaim received by the publicly known war heroes and more prominent members of the elite unit. Despite the often secretive nature of her duties over the years, the consensus among the Flames that have had the opportunity to serve with her is that she is fiercely loyal to those she fights with and they to her. For as much trouble as her passions cause her, they have resulted in more commendations from her fellow soldiers than marks on her record.

K'hora has been court-martialed for taking actions that led to a diplomatic incident in Hingashi involving the Garlean Empire. Charges brought by the East Aldenard Trading company forced Raubahn Aldynn himself to preside over her court martial and in a closed session, he questioned her on the reasoning that had led her to stand there before him in wrist irons. Accusers called for her dishonorable discharge to be enacted, but the Flame General would have none of it. Her military record spoke plainly of a soldier that given her all, time and again, since she first donned a uniform in 1572 and stood with him as the flame was rekindled. Her skills as a commando and talent for clandestine work were identified shortly after her commission and kept her from openly receiving the accolades of her peers. In a judgement that stunned those in attendance, she was instead assigned her current role as a liaison between the Bloodsworn and the Free Brigade and tasked with evaluating newly-joined adventurers for their magical combat expertise. If necessary she is to instruct them on how to integrate their skill-set with Immortal Flames strategy and protocol for the safety of the regular forces stationed in outposts throughout Thanalan. The reassignment came with a revocation of command privileges in the Main and Foreign Brigades and as such, her rank of First Flame Lieutenant is likely to be the limit of her career though this is not a hardship for her having declined promotion before. K'hora accepted the judgement with no small measure of gratitude to her general for allowing her to remain within the Bloodsworn. After years of fading in and out of the shadows of espionage and political intrigue she would finally walk freely under the Thanalan sun, upon the streets of her home.

Unclassified Records

  • Though long before the creation of the newest incarnation of the Immortal Flames it is worth mentioning that K'hora was present in Mor Dhona as a young adventurer with her companions when the Imperial flagship Agrius and her support craft swept into the heart of Eorzea intent on conquest. She will never forget the sight of the massive airships and the desperate defense of Silvertear Falls by the dragons of Dravania that answered the call of their master. Having managed to escape the carnage that burned the skies and sent dragon and magitek falling to the ground she heard the dying roar of the ancient wyrm as it was dragged to the lake with the hulk of the broken Agrius before the explosion rocked the landscape for malms. The experience was to have a profound effect on her life as the true scope of the Garlean threat to her home was now burned in her mind and she recorded it as once of the defining reasons for her choice to serve with the Immortal Flames.
  • At the Battle of Carteneau K'hora first displayed the magical prowess that would see her promoted to join the elite battlemages of the Flames. Heavy losses threatened to see the Alliance lines crumble under the firearms and magitek of the VIIth legion; the overwhelming power of the Garlean machina proving more than a match for the Alliance's mages to repel. As more and more fell around her, K'hora knew that her wards would not be enough to protect those around her for much longer, she risked her life in a desperate gambit to buy some time for her fellow soldiers and their adventurer allies to recover their formation. After entreating the surviving mages nearby to lay down suppression fire long enough to distract from her approach she managed to slip close enough to the Garlean front to weave a link between the engines that drove the reapers that pounded her troops mercilessly with their synthetic magics. Having bound the reapers with her magic she spoke what she believed to be her final spell as a massive explosion issued forth from the core of the reapers and decimated the nearby Garlean infantry as ceruleum and munitions were engulfed in magical fire and added to the chaos. Despite being heavily wounded she managed to crawl back as her forces reformed their lines and fought bravely until the first massive pillar fell from the falling moon and the signal to retreat blared over the sudden silence of the battlefield. Though survivors of the battle often tell embellished accounts of her actions she is rarely known to be the protagonist of the tale. To K'hora, the realm is better served rebuilding after the Calamity than seeking to pin medals on her.

Combat

K'hora carries a rapier as her personal weapon when on regular duty and is capable with it in combat though she sees it more as a simple part of her uniform than her true offensive weapon. She is a highly capable battlemage and utilizes a unique combat style that is contrary to conventional wisdom - much like her. Though she has the means to stay at a safer distance and attack from afar, she is known for being right in the frontline with her infantry at close range. Dancing and weaving her spells in quick succession to confuse and break enemy formations, coupled with the limited but effective healing magics at her command make her an inspiring sight on the battlefield and popular with the rank and file.

The distinctive dance she employs in combat is a means of channeling and controlling the innate magics she possesses. Not knowing what they were when she first discovered her talents, she would later learn that were untamed forces that loosely fell under the purview of thaumaturgy and conjuring. She devised a means to channel and balance the energies within her by means of special dance-like movements. She weaves magic about her in faint strands of elementally-aspected aether. The dance amplifies the potency of the spells and makes them difficult to defend against because they will coalesce instantly to impact upon her target and sometimes strike twice in quick succession to break any magical wards before delivering a solid hit.

Advanced Magical Research

K'hora's affinity for aetherial manipulation has afforded her opportunities to work on research and development of tools and strategies to better arm and defend her fellow soldiers on the battlefield as well as for more clandestine needs. Her earliest work focused on the use of tiny glamour prisms sewn into the lining of clothing that could be manipulated by carefully linked spellwork to project more than one glamour and change between them unlike traditional prisms. The project was favorably received by Command and emboldened her to expand her research to achieve a long elusive goal in the study of aether and its manipulation; manifestation of physical armor rather than tricks of light.

The system which she dubbed "Aethergrafting" is still experimental and thus far all attempts by her peers to replicate her success have ended in failure. Her system uses depleted materia crystals to house the essence of the armor to be recreated and then reconstitutes the armor in its original form. Previously thought to be impossible to convert back from a condensed state as materia to solid form again, the key step of the procedure is the pseudo-bonding of the aether belonging to the armor to be manifested to her own body's aether. The grafting suffix was chosen because the pseudo-bond is like a plant-cutting that has been grafted to another so that it might live with the support of the host plant. Without her innate ability to fortify the aether during this step the materia simply discharge the aether and the process fails. The possible applications of her work are considered to be of great value to the Flames - if she can find a way to allow others to use it.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!

"I've heard she was raised by a tribe of Seekers down in Southern Thanalan. No clue how she managed to get there though."
"The auri woman with the miqo'te ears? Yeah she's hard to miss. Heard she spells her name like a Seeker too."
"I've seen more than one man try talk his way into a tumble with her and fail. She's never rude when she turns them down mind you."

◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!

"She's been with Flames since they formed. She's been demoted at least twice. I don't know if she's just senseless or hates being out of the field."
"I was there! I'm telling you I saw her pick up a Brass Blade and throw him clear across the Quicksand! Well yes I was drinking. What's that got to do with it?"
"Don't waste your time chasing her. Seen her with a Raen half her age many times. No they weren't up to anything, so what?.... Who adopts a grown woman in Ul'dah if she ain't some noble girl?"

◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!

"Did you hear about that diplomatic mission to Hingashi a few months back? I heard some Imperials were killed and their embassy was pointing the finger at the Flames. My sister is married to the quartermaster and she swears the lieutenant is wearing the gauntlets and boots of an imperial soldier from the Far East. Sounds like a trophy to me."
"Was drinking with a dark-scaled Au Ra adventurer-type in the Quicksand and he saw her. Saw a funny look in his eye that wasn't lust. He said something about a half-breed and walked off muttering in his own tongue. I know I've seen her wear those ears sometimes but she didn't even have them on this time. Do you think he meant she has blood from one of the other kind, the white-scaled ones?"

Personal RP Limits

I will play mature content and themes (violence, sexuality, drug / alcohol use) as long as they're logical in a plot-driven encounter. Coarse language is at your discretion. Temporary injury and incapacitation. Temporary imprisonment. Most walk-up encounters. If you have a question then by all means send a /tell.
Ask about long-term and/or permanent injury and disfigurement. Long-term captivity or imprisonment.
I won't play ERP-only plots. Romance is perfectly fine and can lead to ERP encounters later but requests to start an ERP encounter without a logical build-up is not going to happen any more than it would in RL. No permanent character death or rape plots.
Disclaimer
■ If an aspect of RP makes you uncomfortable in a scene we're playing, please send me a /tell, letting me know. Communication is very important, more important than potentially keeping immersion.
■ I am always playing the character I have created and any feelings she has towards another characters must never be confused with those of my own in RL. There is never any possibility of a relationship extending beyond the limits of RP so please keep that in mind when interacting in a plot.
