Koh’si Jakkya "I don't belong t'nobody but m'self."
|
General ⇝
Koh'si's eyes are a pale, pale grey often mistaken for blue in sunlight. Slightly hooded, always painted over with a stripe of grey. They can range anywhere from flat and cold to sharp and bright depending on his mood. They glow faintly with reflected light when in the dark, but nothing particularly noticeable.
His hair is short, choppy, soft and fluffy as hell. It’s naturally a dark burgundy color with added red tips. He thinks they look cool, don’t ask why.
His skin is pale enough to burn from a minute too long in the sun. Often flushed around his cheeks from anger or embarrassment and sometimes spotted with remnants of fights. He bruises easily.
His build may be short, but he's not stocky. He has muscle tone from training, particularly in his arms, but not enough to pass being called lean. He is quite small, even by Miqo’te standards, and does not appreciate it being pointed out.
Koh’si's nails are short, bitten down, and usually fairly dirty. Knuckles are usually cracked or scabbed over. His tail is oddly long for his small frame, but both it and his ears are fairly fluffy. Both ears sport a single gold hoop. He does have longer canines (like most Keepers) and will use them to bite you if necessary.
Clothing ⇝
Loose shirts with long sleeves. Sometimes a tunic, sometimes with a vest. Always wears a small blue stone on a cord around his neck, carved with Menphina's symbol. Long trousers, usually a sturdy cloth, but breathable. Dark, worn leather boots with laces tied around his ankles.
Voice ⇝
Neither high nor deep, but somewhere in the mid-range. Sharp. Drawling. Loud. Often peppered with slang and dropped consonants.
Movement ⇝
Often slouching when relaxed, or annoyed. Walks with his shoes scuffing the ground. Light on his feet. In a fight he won't hesitate to square up into a picture perfect fighter's stance.
Scars & Markings ⇝
Many small scars along his fingers and knuckles from previous fights. Two larger scars along his right side, parallel to his ribs and a mottled burn scar on the left side of his chest. Exactly nine, thin, straight scars along his back. He has two stripes along his right jaw, and a small symbol on his collarbone.
Habits ⇝
Rocking back and forth on his heels. Chewing his fingernails. Fiddling with his earrings. Biting the inside of his cheek. Napping in inconvenient locations.
Koh'si is a difficult individual to say the least. His mood, while usually some flavor of sullen, can change quickly to anger, frustration, embarrassment--all at the drop of a hat. He is passionate to his core whether it be about his pride, his friends, or his fighting.
Unfortunately, he is prone to both extremes of emotion. Fits of rage can easily turn into fits of tears; an intense fight can turn into laughter. The wide range of emotion is something Koh'si has dealt with for as long as he can remember, but he is not the best at handling it himself. He is often confused and unable to express his own feelings, or he will express them in completely the wrong way.
For the most part, he tends to steer clear of people. He can come off as aloof or unfriendly or plain rude to strangers in the hopes of scaring them off. Few get to see his attempts at actually saying what he thinks.
Still, the boy's resilience is commendable. He's been through hell and come out each time a bit more damaged, but no less scrappy. Some may call it plain stubborness that keeps him going, and they would be right, at least in part. Koh'si is fueled by his need to be better, whether that is better than others, better for others, better than his past self, or better for his own future.

Childhood ⇝
Koh'si was born in the frigid winter months into a tribe of raiders based in the Southern Shroud. Even from birth, he was a disappointment to his mother--a third son come too early, and too weak to be much more than an unneccesary burden on the rest of the family. He was not expected to survive the rest of the winter, but, as fortune would have it, pulled through into the spring. The kit never quite recovered his size or the Matriarch's favor.
He was often in the care of his two older brothers, and had little contact with the women in his tribe aside from discipline or the mandatory meetings held before a raid. The boys were taught to gather, to skin and cook their meals, and most importantly, to fight. They were constantly pitted against one another in an effort to make them stronger. As Koh'si grew, it became increasingly obvious that he could not keep up with his siblings. He was too scrawny. Too fragile.
When Koh'si had just passed his 5th summer, his brother Koh'to (then 12) was given his rite of passage from their mother. A test of absolute loyalty to the Matriarch above all else--even his brother. Koh'to brought his younger brother to the river that snaked through their tribe's territory and, unfailingly loyal to his mother, pushed Koh'si in to watch him be swept away down the rapids.
By some miracle, the kit managed to wash up on the banks and wandered alone through the forest for a time. Only when a pair of wood wailers found him did he manage to make it to a city. He was unwilling to wait once inside the city walls and slipped away, out of sight. It was then that the boy finally allowed himself to burst into tears, and it was then that fortune smiled upon him again.
A Keeper woman by the name of Okha found the boy and took him into her care. She'd been on her way to Ul'dah to persue her dream of dancing, stopping only a brief while in Gridania to catch her final airship. This, is how Koh'si came to grow up in Ul'dah.
Teenage ⇝
Though his newly adopted mother worked for much of the night when he was awake, Koh'si adored wandering the city. He'd explore every corner and hiding spot, eavesdropping on the colorful people and language around him. This was how he found Rhaq'a. The little red kit had been spying on the gang of boys for some time before he was caught and brought into their circle. He ran with this ragtag group of misfits until he was nearly 15, when one of their 'games' went horribly wrong. Their leader spent the night in jail. The group disbanded.
Left with too much time on his hands and a growing itch for fighting, Koh'si threw himself into the Pugilist's guild. At first it was simply eavesdropping, spying on the members and mimicking their punches and kicks as best he could--but even they picked up on his watchful eyes eventually. He trained there formally for the next several years until he found that the city had no more left to offer him.
Since then, Koh'si's travels have taken him further than he would have imagined. He's worked with mercenaries, smugglers, drug lords, and the occasional legitimate company. While he still may not be the strongest or toughest opponent, he may be the most stubborn you will meet.
Present ⇝
After losing his love shortly after being bonded, Koh'si fell into a deep depression. It took the support of several friends to get him back on his feet, but the Keeper was still in a vulnerable mental state. It was during this time that he found himself under the thumb of a particularly nasty alchemist. Koh'si was desperate enough to believe the man's claims of affection, and cycled through mistreatment at the Alchemist's hands for nearly a year. He only ever managed to regain his independence through the help of his friends and an extremely fortunate explosion that removed his abuser from the picture entirely.
Not long after, his recovery from the ordeal was interrupted by a similar series of events. This time, rather than crumble, Koh'si chose to train until he felt he was strong enough to take proper revenge on the one that had hurt him. He grew familiar with knives over the course of the year that he trained, and was introduced to firearms, but had no talent with them whatsoever. When he finally found his target again, he found himself unable to carry out the revenge he had so meticulously planned. He left, bitterly disappointed with himself, and returned to some sense of normalcy.
Now, Koh'si chooses to keep himself busy with work. He's often delivering packages for the shadier corners of Ul'dah, and across Eorzea.

♥Cemi Nelhah (Deceased) - His late husband. They were married for only a few months.
♥Oyuu Dataq - His boyfriend. Koh'si prefers to keep their relationship quiet in public, but he will always quickly (and loudly) jump to the Xaela's defense.
♡Lancelaux Fiermont - One of the few actual role models that Koh has in his life, he looks at Lance as a big brother sort of figure and will go to him for advice when he's aroun. All he really wants to do is impress him.
♡Io Saar - Practically family. She protects him and he protects her (kind of). Koh would fight tooth and nail for Io.
♡Xev'tan Tatsae - A former employer and continued role model. Koh'si admires the man despite knowing all the wrong that he has done, and considers him a protector of sorts.
▲Fayre'a Tayuun - A strange sort of friend that Koh'si likes to spar with. The two get along well enough, but often communicate through yelling and insults.
▼Kyt'ir Jakkya His cousin. First enemies, then friends, now back to square one. Koh'si will actively avoid Kyt'ir, because the alternative is probably homicide.
▲Rhaq'a Tayuun His childhood friend and a mild annoyance to Koh. He will occasionally seek Rhaq'a out for his knowledge of the Ul'dahn underworld.
▼J'takra Tia An accidental friendship that turned into a romantic relationship, and ultimately left Koh'si heartbroken. He now avoids the Seeker whenever possible.
✪▲Shane Ma'iitsoh A very slow friendship, cemented when Shane gave Koh an entire roasted shark. He likes Shane for bringing him food, and putting up with him.
✪▲Upa Zuvhe A friend and parental figure. Koh'si looks up to Upa, and considers her family his own. He often babysits her two young daughters.
❣▼REDACTED Once the source of most of Koh's problems, now assumed dead. Koh would like to keep it that way.
▼Cyril Stacy A pirate and slaver that Koh has had the misfortune of running into. He holds onto a strong loathing for the man, but was unable to kill him when given the chance.
