[edit]

GENERAL INFORMATION

Once a promising, naively optimistic mage with unrealized potential, Kyt'ir has finally started living up to the promise his teachers saw in him. Despite his youth, the Keeper has been through countless trials and has come out mostly intact. A dedicated practitioner of magic and alchemy, in forms legal and illegal, he will go to any lengths to try and further his knowledge of magical arts.

APPEARANCE

Born in the Eastern Shroud, this Keeper stands slightly shorter than average compared to your typical Miqo'te, with a somewhat pale complexion. His hair is naturally a pale, almost silver-white, however he habitually dyes it a dark brown, with streaks of lighter, almost blonde tones that he once possessed. His face could pass for reasonably attractive, with slender yet defined features that all come together to form an almost statuesque appearance, something worthy of an expert sculptor's admiration. The only blemish is unfortunately a permanent one, a scar crossing diagonally down across the bridge of his nose. Even with such an ugly mark, his face is handsome, almost perfect, which only serves to draw more attention to his violet eyes. Those eyes are seemingly perpetually set in a piercing gaze, unflinching in a state of alertness despite whatever emotion the rest of his face may be trying to convey, whether it be a bright, fanged ivory smile or a smoldering scowl. Aside from his hair, his most distinctive feature may be his facial markings, stripes under each violet eye, accented with a series of dots. They take the attention away from the scar running diagonally across his nose, or at least he likes to imagine they do the trick.

His body is much unlike what one envisions when they picture a stereotypical mage. He earned his wealth not from weaving spells, but from fighting tooth and claw, sword and board in the Grindstone, and it shows. The once boyish figure has taken on a fair bit of tone, muscled yet not overly so, with nary a hint of body fat to be found. His legs in particular are strong, enough muscle to give away his penchant for leaping and lunging forth using them as springboards. The Keeper nearly manages but not quite pulls off a six pack, which trails up to a toned chest and shoulders. He is so close to having the kind of body that even an Ul'dahn courtesan would drool over - which makes the blemishes almost tragic, in a sense of potential squandered. The most prominent is his right hand and forearm, covered in webbed burn scars that cover the limb thoroughly midway up, fading from there up to his elbow. Despite retaining some motor function, clearly able to hold onto and manipulate light objects, the permanently damaged state makes his retirement from the Grindstone rather understandable. As if this wasn't enough to mar his image, his back is raked with scars, long faded but still discernible to a prying eye.

Having earned a very comfortable living with his Grindstone winnings and ensuing Alchemical enterprise, he is almost always clad in fanciful, high quality garments. He eschews what is typically considered "in style" for his own personal tastes, invariably wearing clothes that hearken to civilizations long dead. The one thing that never changes is that he never leaves his scars visible, opting to wear gloves wherever possible, and insisting on wearing some kind of shirt even in places where it may be uncomfortable.
Aspects That Stand Out:
Kyt'ir has multiple scars. The most obvious scar is across the bridge of his nose, along with faded burn scars covering the majority of his right hand and forearm.
His voice is relatively calm and placid, unwavering and dry.
He's typically seen wearing blue garments of high quality, clearly preferring to always look his best.

PERSONALITY

Kyt'ir is an inherently skeptical individual, typically slow to trust and slow to warm up to anyone. Despite his cold personality and posturing, however, he's fragile underneath, quick to anger if his wounds are picked at and prone to self-doubt. Even after staking his own place in the world and building something worthy of pride, he is sensitive to criticism no matter how legitimate, and imagines himself to be in a competition with nearly everyone around him. Everyone is either a potential obstacle or tool, save for those in his inner circle of colleagues and friends.

L I K E S

Ancient Texts. The Keeper is incredibly fond of books, and the older they are, the better.
Magic Practitioners. An easy way to be on Kite's good side? Use magic, and be good at it. He always relishes the chance to discuss magic - or duel particularly promising mages.

D I S L I K E S

Voidsent. Having possessed a crippling, paranoiac phobia of the Void for ages, he eventually conquered his fears. Now he simply loathes them, and abhors irresponsible mages that study them without proper precautions.
Cowardice. Despite once being the type to turn tail himself, the Keeper holds little regard for craven sorts. To him, a coward is just as if not more dangerous than the actual threat itself.

H O B B I E S

Artistic Spell-weaving. Kyt'ir is particularly fond of twisting spells above and beyond their original purpose. Creating his own style of even the most mundane magics may just be his favorite thing to do.
Reading. Kyt'ir loves his books. Books can't stab one in the back - except for the voidsent variety that he burns on sight.

S T R E N G T H S

Intelligence. The mage is smart and well-read, not to mention intuitive and logical. Provided he has a level head, very little can get past him.
Magic. It goes without saying that one of his greatest strengths is his magic, and his ability to adapt it on the fly. A flexible, stylish mage if there ever was one.

W E A K N E S S E S

Fragile. Despite the act he often puts on, it is little more than that. Kyt'ir is fragile underneath the surface, prone to self-doubt and especially sensitive when it comes to anything personal, or related to his past.

M O T I V A T I O N S

Adoration - Truly, Kyt'ir wants nothing more than to be adored, to be valued. All he wants, when it comes down to it, is to know that people genuinely want him around.

RELATIONSHIP STATUS LEGEND
Family Involved Romantic Platonic Physical Friend Acquaintance $ Business Deceased Positive Negative Neutral Unsure
FAMILY
Koh'si Jakkya. () - Cousin.
Character's Thoughts: "Annoying, ungrateful, foul-mouthed and constantly filthy. He's lucky we are related."
Originally, Koh'si was merely another mark, a suspect he was determined to bring in no matter their familial bond. Eventually however, his conscience won out, and the Keeper decided to do his best to protect him from harm. His cousin doesn't seem to appreciate it, but he tries nonetheless.
ALLIES
Jihn'a Gahre. () - Former Teacher.
Character's Thoughts: "One of the few who saw potential in me. I'll always be thankful, even if his methods were cruel."
At first Jihn'a was an employer. Seeing the talent Kite possessed, the mage eventually saw fit to take him in as a student. Over time, the pair grew more and more fond of one another, eventually becoming lovers. They were bonded, but ultimately drifted apart due to their differing ambitions, and are now competitors in the alchemical business.
R'vess Tia. () - Partner in Crime
Character's Thoughts: "An asshole, but he is one that I can trust."
The first person Kyt'ir ever truly had romantic feelings for, despite their complicated relationship. The Keeper still has a weak spot for the egotistical lancer.
Ma'sae Pohju. () - The Rogue
Character's Thoughts: "I should know better, but I still trust him, if only because he knows how to push my buttons."
Eight, as Kite knew him, was one of the few that the Keeper could open up to on any level. Ma'sae knew nearly all of his secrets. As far as Kyt'ir knows, the troublemaker disappeared, but despite speaking coldly of the man, he still harbors some affection for him.
ACQUIANTANCES
Oyuu Dataq. () - Former Colleague
Character's Thoughts: "He likely wants to kill me rather than talk to me, but I still respect him."
Oyuu led an Order of mages that Kyt'ir was a member of. Oyuu is one of the few people Kyt'ir would trust even in a life or death situation - even if he thinks Oyuu is more than a bit foolish when it comes to his choice of relationships. Oyuu might not trust him due to his own mistakes, but he would still trust the Xaelan with anything short of his life.
Shane Ma'iitsoh. () - Colleague
Character's Thoughts: "Someone I should have listened to from the start."
Where one goes, the other inevitably followed. Having been in a gang together, and later comrades in the Order, Shane is another person that Kyt'ir trusts unquestionably.
INACTIVE
J'Takra Tia. () - Rival.
Character's Thoughts: "Egostistical, foul-mouthed, violent. Has he blown himself up yet, I wonder?"
As Jihn'a's other student, Kite became fixated on the idea that J'Takra was actively out to sabotage his relationship, or was trying to convince his friends to leave him. Tak simply brings out the worst in the Keeper, and Kyt'ir in turn has come to loath his very existence.

RUMORS

N P C

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"He seems friendly enough. Smart, well-read, not sure where he gets his gil from, but it can't be just from that shop of his."
◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"I knew about 'em before he came back, but he's a different person now. From what people say, he used to be a good man. Trusting, naive. Hasn't been the same since, and he won't tell a soul what happened to him."
"I've heard the friendly face is an act - he can be downright cruel, vicious even. He doesn't seem to trust anyone except for those closest to him."
◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"Kyt'ir Jakkya? Yeah, I know about 'em. Patrol found him bloody and broken just outside o' Camp Bluefog, shambling along on his last legs. Apparently he was tryin' to escape from something with a couple friends, only they decided to try and put him out of his misery and left him for dead. From what the others at camp said, the blow they dealt broke more than just his bones, it broke his mind - he wouldn't trust anyone, he wouldn't even close his eyes to rest. Didn't matter what anyone said, or how they tried to help, he'd have none of it. Never did find out who he was running from." - Immortal Flames Private

CHARACTER TIDBITS

Potential Plot Hooks
Currently looking for more antagonistic arcs, or ones where Kyt'ir is in conflict with someone as either the good or the bad character.
Red Magic: Kyt'ir left on a sabbatical to Gyr Abania, taking advantage of the chaos at Baelsar's Wall to sneak in. Having heard of the complex magic practiced by Amdapor & Mhach's descendants, finding evidence of and furthermore learning how to wield this magic was the utmost priority to the Keeper. Fellow practitioners, or potential rivals may have heard of him or run into conflict with him as he attempts to horde information for himself and the select few that he trusts.
Life of Crime: As an independent Alchemist always in the pursuit of coin, Kyt'ir works shady, morally-grey areas that leave him tip-toeing the line between law-abiding and law-breaking. Perhaps you're a former acquaintance, or someone out to settle an old debt.
Traitor: Kite's scars, many as they are, are the result of being left for dead by people he trusted. Perhaps you're one of the people that abandoned him to his fate, or betrayed him during the hurried escape. This is something for a purely antagonistic relation.
Character Lore Adherence
Kyt'ir is very close to and fairly well-anchored within the lore. He won't be breaking any serious lore barriers any time soon.
No changes required.
