Koh Panipahr As above, so below About
Koh is an itinerant Thaumaturge who studies links between voidsent and primals. She's physically frail and a bit of a nerd, but is also fiercely devoted to her own ideas of justice. Her most distinctive feature is her eye color, her left is a milky white while her right eye is a deep unnatural violet. Scars & Markings: A black tear-shaped mark in the center of her forehead (it's cosmetic, not a scar) Voice: Deep, but not especially powerful. Clothing: Koh prizes freedom of movement over the raw protective power of her garments. Since much of her time is spent in Thanalan, which she finds unacceptably hot, she tends to wear light or skimpy clothing. When journeying to colder climates, she will usually bundle up a bit more.
A wandering mage
Koh's personality is dominated by her intellectual curiosity and her sense of justice. Although she has her own pleasures, it is these two which are her primary drives. She lives for studying and learning new things about the world, and while one can certainly spend one's life in a library absorbing the wisdom of ages past, Koh has found that her particular interests are best served by journeying out into the world in the hope of discovering something new (or at least rediscovering something lost).
However, despite her academic pursuits she endeavors not to forget her roots, and considers herself a comrade to all of the working and oppressed peoples of Eorzea. As such, she is sympathetic to the struggles of the refuges, of the so-called 'beast tribes', and also of those who find themselves dispossessed in their native lands. She is known to associate with populists and radicals of a number of different stripes, although she hasn't gotten herself publicly or prominently involved in any such trouble yet.
As far as her personal taste goes, despite (or perhaps because of) her own physical frailty, she has an affection for those who are physically capable and strong. She prefers night to day, and cold to heat. She mostly eats cheap, strong-flavored food, and doesn't especially care for finery or wealth of any sort. She tends to prefer the company of women to men, but her social groups include a diverse group of people of all genders (and species, for that matter).
Koh was born in the Black Shroud to Otuvehdu Panipahr and Noqo'to Yhemafa. She was the youngest of her mother's seven children, and grew up very much in their shadow. She knew from a young age that inheriting her mother's skills and profession (her mother was a proficient chef) would not especially be possible, and so as a child (with the aid of some other residents of the area) she nurtured her latent talent for magic. In her early teen years, she apprenticed herself to a local hedge witch, learning all that she could and doing various chores for her mistress. It was in the pursuit of these duties that she angered a local Diremite nest and was attacked. The injuries she sustained cost her the sight in her left eye, and would have ended her life were it not for the timely intervention of her sister Exah. Chastened by her overreach in attempting to take on the monsters, and convinced that there was much more she needed to learn, Koh left the Shroud behind and undertook the journey to Ul'dah to study Thaumaturgy at the Arrzaneth Ossuary. She spent several years there as a student, where she became fascinated with Voidsent. Although she heeded the (many) warnings about the creatures, her fascination went beyond a simple lust for power, and she persisted with her study. As her journeyman piece, she demonstrated a method for binding an Ahriman for use as transportation. As a journeyman/itinerant Thaumaturge, it was Koh's privilege to travel the world seeking out new sources of information on magic, whether they were newly discovered techniques or the unearthed artifacts and practices of days past. Presently, Koh is rather taken with the idea that Primals are a particularly devious and advanced type of Voidsent, and most of her research focuses on this (false, although she doesn't know it) premise. In her travels, Koh has learned much from many different schools of magic, taking methods more so than results from each. Her thaumaturgical practice folds in elements of the geometries of the Limsan Arcanists, the divinations of the Ishgardian and Sharlyan Astrologians, and the awareness of the Gridanian Conjurers.
