General Information
In Doma's days as a vassal state, Shinonome was known only by what she went by - a courtesy name. Her late master, who perished during the Doman Razing, was a military minister and formidable thinker, albeit a known milksop. It is said that his ingenious methods live on in his loyal general even after he was survived by her, perpetually haunting his adversaries. She is the current head of the Black Tortoise Household, a syndicate of partisans comprising her master's surviving swordsmen and shinobi.

High-powered, she knows no other life after having served the liberation efforts of her splintered homeland for all her years, playing an active role in the capital's restoration. She is watchful of the repatriation of refugees; of reconciling the land with its life; and of the throne's reigning uncertainties. The end of the war has not once seen her drive forward slow to inertia.

Despite her dignified exterior, Shinonome is prone to throwing herself into situations that are uncool or largely beneath her dignity -- falling down entire flights of stairs when inattentive or drinking herself into an emotive stupor.

Hair & Face
Her irises lost all pigment by her 7th summer, but her vision is good. She has a high nose bridge, courtesy of her northwestern provincial lineage. Her hair is well-groomed. In times of peace, she is sure to be seen trying to grow it back out.
Physique & Markings
Has the physical makeup of someone who monitors her own diet quite closely. She has a few telltale scars on her back, but the long scar tissue spanning from her inner right thigh to the back of her knee is significant.
Hygiene & Attire
Clean; doesn't smell like anything asides from sweat. You'll never catch her with a sash loose or buckle half-done. Her general's uniform looks heavy. Gaze closely and one will notice a long string of prayer beads fastened twice and woven into the knot of the sash around her lower waist.
Personality
Psychological Profile
Beneath the piercing eyes is a resourceful and adventurous decision-maker. While not impossible to reason with, she is one who keeps her eyes on the prize. Loyal and undistracted, she has a model one-tracked mind, adopting her late lord's unfulfilled political agenda into the welfare of Doma. She spares none who oppose the newly reclaimed security of her home. Though given to giving herself fully, she also values her own purpose as a torchbearer and will not meaninglessly dash into harm's way.
Voice
Ladylike, as befits her social status. More feminine than most would expect.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
A cold but fair leader who is willing to sell her heart and soul to king and country. Does not respond mercifully towards betrayals to the group. Interestingly, she takes under her wing only those who prove capable of fending for themselves, though they need not necessarily be team players. Her leadership methodology is distinct in the latitude she allows her followers to act as according to their own will; she is not known to strictly govern or regulate their thoughts.
A proud personality, she looks with favor on individuals with great martial ability. When faced with a moral crossroads, she firmly believes that the ends justify the means.

Low: Luck
Non-Combat Abilities
Presence: A social trait. Her integrity enables her to hold court; she has a way with effective rhetoric, for someone so stoic. Helped along by her understanding of the uses of diplomacy and occasionally by the comedic relief of her being prone to hurting herself.
Execution: A skill in choreographing military strategy. When it comes to the execution of a tactical blueprint, her ability to maintain group morale and presence of mind is second to none.
Combat Abilities
Mounted Combat: On the battlefield, Shinonome fights from atop a strong, armored horse with a fearsome temperament.
True Aim: With a fine bow in hand, she's able to demonstrate it as an extension to her own limbs, chasing static or traveling targets down with her arrows.
Mukaibi: The 'backburn' or 'backfire'. A potent, magicked cleave that combines heat magic and qi energy to achieve a firebreak, interrupting oncoming assaults in their path. Her blade and the magicked crystal in its hilt serve as an 'ember' for this highly offensive/defensive maneuver. The loud crack heard is the result of flames crackling with the force of the sword being swung.

Household
Mutsuki no Hayato, samurai & general.
"Though he may not often speak, know that it isn't out of a lack for words."
A martial peer to Shinonome, Hayato is a Lupin with disarming blue eyes and a stony disposition. Formerly a samurai serving beneath her lord, the loss of a master impacted him profoundly. Perhaps due to their alike pain, the two share an unspoken mutual understanding. Hayato's memory is far-reaching, owed to his superior ability to associate sound and scent with sight. Unsurprisingly, he is known to forgive but never forget. Shinonome entrusts to him the arm's length distance he swears to; in turn, he reciprocates by lending her his watchful eye and the grip of his fangs.
Takanashi Raiden, shinobi & retainer.
"What about Takanashi?"
If not for his imposing height, this shinobi would at first glance be as nondescript as any of his shadow-bound peers. Behind the inscrutable somen is Raiden, Shinonome's sworn retainer who came under her employ well after the war. Hailing from the unassuming rice farming village of Namai, he is proof that blue blood holds little weight in the dual spheres of wén (the cultivation and literary) and (the martial.) Despite his talents, contention has sparked within the 'household' around the matter of his worthiness and background, much of which remains shrouded in obscurity.

He seems to owe his master a debt of a lifetime, yet the nature of this bond beggars a question: what kind of secret does she fiercely guard for his protection?

Sou Seishūn, general.
"I'm sorry. He either holds people in high regard or low. Once he decides which, it becomes difficult to work one's way around it, for better or for worse. But his friendship is irreplaceable."
Like Shinonome, Seishuun is someone born into a clan of nobles who have devoted generations of service directly under the banner of Doma's ruling families. The Sou family was wholly military: royal, proud, talented, but belligerent. To date, Seishuun and his two nephews remain the last survivors of his blood. Outspoken and quick to anger, Seishuun is someone who stands to extol the honor of high-born Domans worthy in the domain of martial achievement. Though he and Shinonome share fierce disagreements, the two are joined at the hip and can be observed leisure drinking and remarking on war poetry together.
Mikami no Tokiwa, bane & Fourth Pillar.
"..."
The turbulent rivalry between Shinonome and Mikami no Tokiwa extends far beyond record, their clashes said to be disastrous on a scale beyond logical comprehension. Yet, it was Shinonome's own conscious, sober-minded decision to extend a hand to her archenemy in hopes of joining forces, understanding full well that a bite would promise deadly poisoning. Their hands joined, but their fights were no less bloody; even amid Household walls does the serpent continue to lust after Shinonome's life. A decade's worth of strife nonetheless bred a shared sense of understanding, so much that the two will readily benefit each other by devouring mutual enemies within the flames of their own conflicts.
Friends & Acquaintances
Suzakuin, Kojin trader-craftsman.
"I cannot very well call him a 'friend' if he means to continue avoiding me... But he did save this useless General's life in the past, and for that I would offer him recompense in equal measure."
A young, mute kojin sashimono-shi who, in the past, saved Shinonome from a painful death by drowning deep in the Ruby Sea. He has declined her various gifts and attempts to establish contact.
Nagano no Kaito, Mystic.
"The sigil-ridden mystic? What would you have me say of him? What have I to say about him?"
Nagano no Kaito is something of a sore point for the normally unperturbed general. More prominent than his apparent tendency to remain inert is his mischievous quality, through which he manages to get under Shinonome's skin despite all the man's questionably good intentions. Kaito's continued denials of her attempts to scout him into her Household has served only to prove her tremendous appetite for talent, if not futile. Equal parts inspired and spited by his resilience, Shinonome has over time learned to resort to roundabout means to try to get through to him, her set mind coming off as more than overbearing. Her attempts have been numerous and fruitless enough that they have over time petered out to become little more than a friendly jab shared between the two.

Rumors
NPC Rumors

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
"Word of little Shinonome's livelihood is always glad tidings on the ears. When you get to my age and have little else to lose, you start to look for surviving traces of the past in today's youth, and I see so much of her junzi master's high-minded ideals in her." — Retired Equerry.

“What? You’re telling me she is Shinonome? I'm led to wonder whether the folk tales over-painted her... I swear I witnessed her stumbling and rolling down those very stone steps only yesterday. Don't look at me like that! The accident was so unusual, it couldn’t have been anyone else!” — Puzzled Conscript.
◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
"Mama told me a bedside tale of a deep sea diviner-witch who ventured ashore after living underwater all her life. During her travels, she caught the eye of a Doman war general and captured her heart. The general was so smitten with her that after the war and long after the witch returned home, she dove beneath the sea to seek the witch's hand. They say she was never able to find her again! I wonder what life is like up on the shore." — Sui-no-Sato Childling.

RP Limits
I like to consider myself a flexible player who is willing to commit to a number of different types of scenes and role-play scenarios, but even I have my limits. If something is on the play list, assume it means yes, as long as it's within the context of the current play or ongoing plot. No's are typically a hard no, and it means don't ask.

RP Hooks
While the below is by no means comprehensive, it's a kind of spring board for walk-up RP. Longer plots that are meant to run for more than a few quick RP's, please feel free to send me a tell so we can work out a good reason for our characters to get to know one another. I'm always looking for RP, unless I'm actively spamming PvE content.

OOC Notes
Player Information
Player Note
There is a lot of information on this character wiki, but it is by no means completely comprehensive. There are chunks of backstory that are left intentionally vague so that details can be later added as developed through creative writing or in role-play revelation. Feel free to use Common or Uncommon rumors freely, if you want to use a Rare Rumor as a plot hook or to spark RP, I would ask that you send me a tell first, to make certain it's alright.
Character Lore Adherence
Everything concerning this character that has not been confirmed by in-game lore should be taken with a grain of salt. Anything that has had to be changed because of lore shifting will be noted below.
■ No changes.
Character Concept
Though unconfirmed, Doma and the land of Yanxia is evidently a marriage of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and (where Nagxia is concerned) Vietnamese cultural elements. Koto's character was designed with Chinese cultural elements in mind, intended to be of an FF-equivalent of Uyghur-Chinese ethnicity.

Tropes & Explanations
A trope is a convention or device that is often found in creative works. In this case, the tropes below describe my character either in part, or as a whole. Their background, personality, appearance, etc, most of them can be described in the tropes below.
Trope Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés.
