Krattel is a melee fighter who learnt to wield a sword and shield from a young age and wears plate armour in combat. In recent moons she has changed her weapon to a two handed blade, initially finding it somewhat of a struggle but quickly getting used to the difference in size and weight.
She has many years experience in melee combat going back long before the calamity, having trained in the Gladiator's Guild at the age of ten. This does mean that most of her fighting against people is more for show, but she is learning more as time goes on. However she excels when fighting animals.

Krattel lived with her family for many years, not seeing eye to eye on a lot of subjects but the Voss family always protected their own. She started training as a gladiator the moment she could, despite her family being a long line of Thraumaturges on her mother's side and the rest of her family favouring other magick or scholarly based professions.
She ended up travelling a lot, never being tied down to one company or area. However in the last couple of cycles it has come to her attention that she can do far less on her own than she can with others.
She first realised this when working for the free company "The Kindred", a place which tried to have something of a family instead of just a place to work. At first she was not convinced by the idea, keeping to herself a lot and holding people at arms length. However, the more jobs she went on, the more she realised just how much better this family worked together compared to the other companies she had been in.
The first Starlight she spent at the Kindred was her worst. Two days beforehand, she was to meet with her family for their traditional meal out in Ul'dah. When they had not appeared, she went back to the Kindred house and, accompanied by some of the company, went to her family home, only to find it burning with her family laying murdered around the ruins. The event had traumatised the girl, but over the proceeding moons, with the help of The Kindred, she brought her own justice to Lycelle Gourdenoux, the woman who killed her family.
Over the next few moons she struggled to come to terms with the loss of her family, unhelped by the debt they left behind. Having the loans of nine family members weighing onto one person caused the girl a great deal of stress, and with only the income of an adventurer she was forced to work for the loan shark whom her family had all used. The man in charge was simply called "the boss" by all those under his employ, and the girl was given the name Sovark Slett to help protect her in some of the mote questionable jobs. Despite her circumstances, Krattel approached the job with enthusiasm as "the boss" allowed her to pay off the debt from what he would pay her, but still allowed her to keep enough to live on. It was at this stage that The Kindred collapsed, but this change brought many of the company closer together.
During this time, one of the other workers of "the boss" managed to get her addicted to somnus. The unknown man was furious, punished those who had got her hooked on the drug and made sure Krattel didn't get anymore.
This was the last straw for the friends she had in the remnants of The Kindred, who hatched a plot to arrest "the boss". When he was captured it was revealed that he was in fact a childhood friend of Krattel's, Oswyn Dorne, and had not met her in his criminal capacity openly, always wearing something to mask his appearance and voice. Outraged, K'aila Riki shot the man and he died shortly after. To this day, Krattel has no idea where Oswyn or "the boss" went.
After several months of ups and downs, including the breaking of Krattel's addiction to somnus, the Winter's Wake was formed with Krattel as one of the founding members. Life for Krattel regained some semblance of normality as she found her place, learning Thaumaturgy for several months before going back to the sword and shield. Whilst she has not practiced the magick in many moons, she still helps around the Ossuary whenever she can and uses the library whenever she can.
But her simple life was not to last. When visiting her mother's grave on what would have been her nameday, the Gourdenoux family appeared and blatantly mocked the Hyur and her deceased family. The words affected her more than she had thought possible, and somehow linked her to the abyss.
Now welding a two-handed sword along with a soul crystal gifted to her by Srevia Strathway, the young Hyur is now desperate to find a way to stave off the impending darkness whilst having to deal with the fear of what might happen to those she cares about if she fails.
