"It was from my Father's stories that I grew to love the potential that the world had, and it's through my father's stories that I carry and unending hunger for knowledge and the perseverance to find my place in this world. I am a woman who refuses to fall under society's expectations; driven to present myself as someone who can be relied upon to defend Eorzea against all who threaten to tear our freedoms from our grasps." -An Excerpt from Lyriah's Journal

Appearance & Personality

Nature & Demeanor

Nature & Demeanor
Halone Icon.png

Nature: Lyriah can come off as cold or hesitant when it comes to talking to new people, events in her past taught her to be reserved around new faces. However once Lyriah gets to know someone, as time passes she tends to gradually warm up to them. That being said, she has always been loyal to her true friends and would lay down her life for them.

Trope: When it comes to matters of the twelve, Lyriah's patron deity is Halone the Fury. However, Lyriah believes that the whole of the twelve should be honored and not just one divine.

Habits: Lyriah has an assortment of interesting habits and quirks, both bad and good. Some of these include:

  • Biting her lip: Lyriah does this most when she's anxious or thinking heavily on something.
  • Spacing out: It would be an understatement to say that Lyriah thinks often of her past. Many times, especially when left to her own devices, she will waste bells just thinking about old comrades and times before the calamity.
  • Writing: Lyriah will often write in her journal, especially when a notable occurrence has developed. No one has seen the contents of this journal. (Unless they stole it when she wasn't looking)
  • Seeking Solitude: While not exactly what may be called a habit, Lyriah has been known to rush off into the wilds without saying anything. The solitude allows her to collect herself and regain control of any emotions that threaten to come out.

Notable Features

Notable Features

Common Appearance: Physically she is well built for the life of a lancer, lean muscle and a thin frame for the benefit of speed and endurance while being only an average height. She has auburn hair that, in the past, was tightly bound into a ponytail to keep it out of the way. Lately, however, she has worn it loose around her shoulders as a more preferred style. Her eyes are a shade of aqua blue and despite being from the desert Lyriah's complexion is very light, likely due to being mostly restrained inside as a child.

Scars & Markings: One of Lyriah's more notable markings is a beauty mark resting just under her left eye. Other scars are usually well hidden by her clothes, a diamond-shaped scar on her sternum, a larger scar on her left side just under the rib cage and various other battle scars she's achieved over the years.

Voice: Lyriah is usually well spoken, confident, and only holding onto the slightest hint of an Ul'dahn accent.

Clothing: Lyriah dressed as most adventurers did, wearing clothing that would allow ease of movement and was appropriate for the climate. Usually, her attire consisted of jackboots, linen shirts, and buffalo leather pants which in most cases would be considered incredibly masculine. She rarely dressed to impress unless her job required it of her believing that the waste of gil was not worth the benefits, the only exception being an amethyst necklace her mother gave to her before she passed away.

  • Polearms: Lyriah has been trained since a very young age on the use of a Lance and once she traveled to Gridania, she studied under the guild until her training took her to Coerthas. She consistently carries a Lance with her, and if on the rare occasion that she does not she has a dagger tucked into her belt in case she was to find herself in a situation to defend herself.
  • Swords: The relationships that Lyriah had experienced also benefitted her in the way of swordsmanship since they insisted she learned. Though she doesn't utilize her skills in battle, she does keep her blade always at the ready.

Relations (NPC)
'Weston Karnelle ( ) - '
Father: Lyriah's father and possibly the largest influence on her yet. Weston travelled the known continent using his love for music to pay his way through. After settling down with Lyriah's Mother, he entertained his young daughter with stories of heroism and fabled beasts. Once Flarah died from disease, he was never the same man again and died a broken man.
'Flarah Karnelle ( ) - '
Mother: Flarah was dedicated to Lyriah growing into a woman who was capable of anything she wanted to be. Lyriah found her mother's teaching to be tedious but managed to learn many important skills from her, including reading, writing, basic arythmatic and sewing. Unfortunatly with the influx of refugee's from Ala Mihgo, sickness spread amongst the lower classes and Flarah soon fell ill. Weston frantically went to any healer that could help her but without the gil to purchase her medicine, she passed away from fever.
'Eranore Rivers ( ) - '
Half-Brother: Eranore was unknown to Lyriah for twenty years of her life. It wasn't until he had found out about her did the two finally have a chance to meet. The reunion wasn't sweet, however, Eranore carried resentment towards Lyriah for a good time which ushered him to lash out at her and her attempts to know him better. Their relationship wouldn't improve until after Lyriah found Eranore on the brink of death in the middle of an Ul'dahn street. Knowing his occupation, she quickly took him home and cared for him. Once better he began to visit her more regularly and eventually care for her as his sister.

Relations (PC)

Relations (PC)
Best Friend:Lyriah has known Navei since her time in Sanctus Refero when she hired him and his then girlfriend onto the Astalicia to assist in Security detail. Over time, their relationship became fairly dependent on each other's support up until Nebulous disbanded and Lyriah was forced to try to kill Navei. Once she returned to Eorzea, their friendship seemed on an off. She would help him with things and for a time they would grow close- all for it to come to a sudden and strange end. For unknown reasons to Lyriah, Navei would disappear into a new passion project or be gone for moons on end. Lyriah became busy with her own work and now seeing him is a rare occurrence.
Alleria Surlaint
Best Friend: Alleria was the first girl that Lyriah could remember falling for, having been introduced to her by Navei during a match at the Grindstone. The Elezen girl always dreamed of being a Knight but was cute and awkward when praised. Lyriah found these traits endearing and did what she could to support her in her dreams. Unfortunately family and unforeseeable events forced Alleria and Lyriah to part, though they both mutually ended the relationship to spare each other the pain of being apart for so long. To this day, Lyriah still thinks fondly of Alleria and is happy to spend time with her whenever time permits.
Rhin Str'den
Ex-Lover/Business Client: Lyriah's relationship with Rhin has been both a great experience as well as a overwhelming one. She first found him and nursed him back to health after the Calamity struck, eventually growing an attraction- and later a relationship- from their time together. Due to altercations that would occur years down the road, she forced every thought of him out of her mind for years while she struggled to find a purpose in the new Eorzea. Eventually he would find her again, and as she suspected, he had people watching over her to keep her welfare in check while she was unawares. This sentiment softened her views of the man and, while cautious, has allowed herself to reach out to him again when she finds herself struggling. Aside from helping Rhin with a lost friend and signing him on as a client, Lyriah still hesitates to talk to him on more friendly grounds.

History

Glass-hourglass.png History
Lyriah's history extends as far back as the beginnings of 1.0, as thus many of the things that were are no longer.

Family History

Flarah before she died.
Weston both young and before he died.
Lyriah's half brother Eranore.

It was said that Lyriah's parents came from very different lifestyles, her father growing up on the docks of Limsa before dashing off to begin life as a wandering minstrel while her mother grew up in a middle-class family to one of Gridanias more successful merchant families. Weston met her mother, Flarah, when he took a detour to Gridania and played for the ladies who attended at Mih Khettos Amphitheatre. When they met, a love bloomed that forced the couple to elope after much resistance from Flarah's father. Within the fortnight they were wed and settled down in Ul'dah to start a family. Sadly illness stole Flarah away early in Lyriah's life and with his soul mate gone, Weston lost his luster for life and passion for music. To pay for the funerary debts, he took up work with the miners guild at Nanawa Mines before part of the structure collapsed and he was lost in the chaos.

Eranore "Venomheart" Rivers was born to Alyson Rivers who bore him out of wedlock, his father being Weston during his more 'free roaming' days and had no knowledge of his birth. Alyson's father feared to have his family's name put to shame so he married his daughter off to a lower class merchant who abused the new status as much as he did his wife and step-son. Years growing with this built his character to be cruel and cold only having a care for himself. After he had grown to an adult he promptly had his step-father 'removed' from the family before disappearing. He is said to work in the black markets of Ul'dah where he will sell anything for a price.

Personal History (Pre-Calamity)

Lyriah was granted the chance for adventure when she was eighteen names days old. She had come to the realization that Ul'dah was no longer the gem of promise it had once been and so she sought to explore to Limsa where her father had lived.

It wasn't long before she found herself without a gil to her name and in a strange city. She happened across a Highlander woman in trouble and aided her and a Midlander man who was present later. Lyriah's efforts were appreciated and in turn, she was granted the opportunity to work for Sanctus Refero, a trading company within the hulls of the Astalicia.

Several moons passed before things started changing at the company. There were disagreements between members of a group known as the Eorzean Guard and Sanctus, during the times of unease, Lyriah was promoted to Head of Security to oversee events held and ensuring the safety of all who attended. However, the prosperity of Sanctus ran dry when Alona disappeared and most were forced to find new employment.

Her closest friend Navei founded Nebulous and encouraged her to join him. She did and held a similar role, making sure transactions between the firm and their customers went smoothly. Close to the calamity things began going sour, the company having to even turn on one of their own to survive but the peace didn't last after so the company was disbanded and Lyriah found herself back in Limsa where she lived until the battle at Cartenaeu.

She marched into battle with the Maelstrom expecting it to be her last. By some miracle of the divines she survived the attack and traveled north to escape the devastation behind her; building a shelter which eventually turned into a home and it was there she resided for five years...

Post-Calamity

Fate seemed to drag Lyriah back into her old life, which she came to accept rather reluctantly. She held firm beliefs that not only had the world she once had known drastically changed but that the friends she had gathered before the calamity were all fallen. She was pleasantly surprised to find that some of her friends had survived, yet life was very different than how it had been prior. She struggled to find a place in the new world, eventually finding work as a clerical assistant at an alchemical research facility.

Several moons passed before Lyriah's restless nature pushed her to pursue different roads, eventually founding her own company, Oschons' Respite, dedicated to her father's patron deity in honor of him. The business began to build up and everything seemed to find balance over time as the company's profits grew, even allowing Lyriah to form partnerships with other companies. Lyriah was soon forced to expand her clientele, reaching so far as the gates of Ishgard once they opened to new trades.

The peace didn't last. Lyriah became gravely injured during a caravan raid that left her at Nald'Thals mercy for months. During that time, employees hired on by her stand in took the chance to try to overthrow Lyriah in order to gain control over the company. While Lyriah managed to throw out the traitorous dogs, the company still suffered from both Lyriah's injuries and their betrayal. She had no choice but to sell the company to her half-brother, Eranore and start anew somewhere else. Lyriah kept minimal contact with those closest to her, such as Navei, but ultimately became unwilling to disclose her affairs with anyone who asked.

Moons would pass before her Navei would find her and introduce her to a small Flames garrison that was looking for seasoned fighters in the build up to Ala Mhigo's liberation. Lyriah signed up and immediately resumed her life as a soldier. She grew to trust again and fought along side her old comrades once more. The battles were long and dangerous, but Lyriah was in her element with new comrades to fight along side her. Disagreements would after the battle was done and information was demanded from Lyriah that she couldn't give out. As much as she grew to love those in the 4th, Lyriah knew her time with them had come to an end and she slipped away with a resignation letter left on the commanders desk.

For a time she worked with the Ishgardian family, the De'Bayaels, and joined her friend and soon to be lover, Alleria. She worked as a squire at the time and fought at Ghimlyt along side her old comrades in the 4th. During one notable battle, one of their own killed a prisoner of war and was captured to be taken to Ishgard for trial. However, there were arguments between the two factions over this as well as a lot of ill feelings following suit. Alleria disappeared and Lyriah eventually followed suit, though she was at a loss to what she would do with herself.

Lyriah took on freelance work as a soldier with the 4th again, now under a new commander since Ghimlyt, and was at her post when she noticed a airship under distress. She immediately went to investigate where it took it's emergency landing and was shocked to discover Maelstrom units coming from the ship, as well as Rhin Stri'den following suit. Seeing the man again after all this time had made her remember both the good memories and the bad and she felt awkward around him. However, her task in helping his men helped her act and before long they began to talk. He expressed his feelings about what happened before and apologized to her, to which Lyriah accepted, though she was uncertain of it's sincerity at the time. They spoke about what she had done between the time that she disappeared to their present time and she expressed her frustration with how dismantled her life felt.

Rhin gave her a strange device and told her that if she wanted to go back to the home she was at for five years after the Calamity, she could now. All she had to do was activate it, and she could go back to the solace that she had craved. At first the idea was appealing, and while she took the device eagerly, she has yet to use it. While she was happy, she wasn't alone, and that place was filled with only memories now. Still, Lyriah intends to go there someday, though she's not sure when.

Life working as a Flame was sporatic and unfulfilling, so Lyriah dedicated her time to rebuilding her trading business, and before long it began to finally show promise. She busies herself with it and now seems more at ease to mingle with the masses once more. Lyriah still remains cautious of others, but in the spirit of gil, she has learned how to read people more effectively. There are times she looks back to her days as a soldier and pines for the rush of battle, but over all she seems happier with what she has built with her own hands.

Adventure/battle-styled rp is some of my favorites, but I love deep connections and betrayal because it keeps the story juicy. I'm usually up for anything, though, including slice-of-life for less intense days.
