Basic Info
Mina Rhaal is a bard and adventurer who lives in the Lavender Beds. She frequently gives musical and comedy performances all over Eorzea, and also spends time doing mercenary work for various Free and Grand Companies.
Appearance
Mina is often smiling, her green eyes sparkling. Her hair cycles through a rainbow of colors, but is usually a shade of blue. She loves flashy, finely made clothes, and smells of rose perfume. From regular practice with the bow and harp, Mina’s hands are calloused. Her voice is lyrical, and it’s hard to place an accent--though she talks like someone well educated.
History
Mina doesn’t often speak of her life before the Calamity and it’s hard to determine where her early years were spent. During the Calamity, when she was just 16, Mina turned up alone in New Gridania. A kind citizen took pity on her, offering the girl a place to stay and pointing her toward some paying work. Mina began assisting the Wood Wailers in the Shroud with simple tasks: message delivery, basic first aid, and the like. Soon after, Mina began training with a master bard. Though she was already well-versed in both music and archery, she learned to weave spells into her songs to lift the spirits of her allies.
Mina eventually started to gain a reputation as a minstrel, supporting herself through performing as well as mercenary work.
At age 21, Mina’s life changed rapidly. A chance meeting with an Ul’dahn paladin, Aryk Rhaal, Chief Flame Sergeant of the Immortal Flames, led to love and marriage. Mina moved out of her apartment in Gridania. She currently resides with Aryk in a house in the Lavender Beds, surrounded by flowers.
Under the stage name The Blue Rose, Mina sings at events, taverns, and even on the battlefield.
Personality
Outgoing, kind-hearted, and cheerful, Mina enjoys social occasions and meeting people. Her disposition is generally sunny and she loves her friends deeply. She chatters incessantly.
Conversely, Mina’s flamboyant nature makes her needy of attention. She’s vain, mercurial, and occasionally sulky. Her tendencies toward self absorption and greed are usually tempered by her good-aligned nature, though.
Performing
Mina uses the stage name The Blue Rose when she performs. She has a sweet, clear voice, and sings at various events and taverns all over Eorzea. However, she really shines when performing with Ciciru Ciru as a comedy and musical duo.
She’s classically trained with nearly every musical instrument and has a preference for murder ballads and sad, traditional folk songs--anything dramatic.
Mercenary Work
As an archer and scout, Mina regularly works with various Free and Grand Companies. She’s also adept at undercover work since she’s skilled with acting and accents.
Though adventuring is something that Mina has done regularly to make gil, she still gets nervous when violence is inevitable.
Most commonly, Mina works with the following groups:
- The Crystal Coeurls: A mercenary company under Heavenly Marigold’s leadership. Mina regularly assists them with various jobs.
- The Immortal Flames: Mina is officially sworn to the Flames.
