NICKNAMES...

Chi.
Depending on the kanji, Chi can mean either "blood" or "small." She was given this nickname by a Raen she encountered during her first tastes of freedom. Takamasa was a samurai who befriended her and helped her escape during the Doman rebellion, and because she refused to speak--let alone provide her name--he simply called her "Chi." Although he is dead and gone now, run through by Garlean swords, she still treasures the memory of her first true friend and she continues referring to herself by the name he gave her.
Little Miss Sugar Rush.
She earned this nickname from a Hyur named Myronas during her first evening on Eorzea's shores. When he encountered her working on her tightrope act in Horizon, he attempted to woo her in the hopes of getting beneath her loincloth. She denied him, but he did discover her love for all things sweet and he fell into the habit of calling her this.
Pixie.
An old nickname from a long-dead friend she no longer recalls. Only one person has called her this in all the life she can remember, and though she can't put her finger on why, the merchant's use of this name still haunts her memory.
Little Rabbit.
Reiko is terribly fond of rabbits and often carries a stuffed rabbit around in her saddlebags. The rabbit seems wholly precious to her, but she probably won't tell you why.
Sandcat.
Bestowed upon her by her former teacher who likened her to these violent, savage creatures, this nickname references her ferocity and tenacity. She doesn't view it as the highest of compliments and, in fact, is rather ashamed of it.
Bunny Bottom.
Call her this and she is likely to hunt you down and murder you in your sleep. Or slip poison into your tea. Whichever comes first.
"Thief!"
The merchants of Ul'dah, Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, and Ishgard all know her by this name.
Rei.
Those few who might one day be privy to the truths behind her friendly mask will probably be instructed to use this when calling her. She prefers, Rei to her full name.

RACE & CLAN...

Au Ra.
Raen.

GENDER...

Female.

AGE...

Nineteen springs.
19 years.

NAMEDAY...

No records exist for Reiko, but if they did, they would list her nameday as the 14th Sun, 3rd Umbral Moon.
June 3rd.
Ask her about her birthday and she will tell you she was born on the Starlight Celebration morning some years ago--her age varies depending on her mood. She hopes she'll net more presents by telling people her birthday is Starlight morning, and she particularly enjoys presents in the form of gooey rolanberry pastries.

ORIENTATION...

Both heterosexual and demisexual.
Although she has never had a romantic partner, Reiko is picky when it comes to people. It is not the appearance that usually draws her attention, but the mind behind it. No matter how physically appealing, she is unlikely to be attracted to a foolish person. She is immediately attracted to clever people, particularly those skilled in banter and any of the arts (martial, musical, drawing/painting/sculpting, writing, etc.), and she will stop and listen to bards in the street until their fingers fall off.
Irritating as they may be, she can't help but be drawn to people who can get the better of her. She might not show it, but she is often hyper-competitive and she loves a challenge.
When it comes to physical appearance, she tends to favour much taller people and has a fondness for androgynous faces. She likes to sketch their likenesses. Her preferences lie in Au Ra, Elezen, and Miqo'te men, though she won't turn her nose up at a handsome Midlander.

MARITAL STATUS...

Single.
She is more interested in finding people she can use and/or entertain than she is interested in romance. But if love happens to bloom on her adventures, she will probably try to rip off its petals before she'll stop and smell the fragile flower.
Other Statistics

NATIONALITY...

Although clearly a Raen, she never mentions any Othardian, Doman, or Hingan heritage and, in fact, will probably tell you any number of stories regarding her origins. One of her favourite tales involves high seas hijinks with a fast-talking, blue-streak swearing pirate mother and the Limsan admiral father who dueled his way into her heart. She claims she picked up her speech patterns from her rough and tumble dam
She may also tell you some story about how her archaeologist parents ran afoul of the Dalamud Lambs while digging in Gridania and, to keep their only child safe, they left her in an Ul'dahn orphanage to throw off their pursuers.

CITIZENSHIP...

If you ask her, she is likely to tell you that she is little more than dandelion fluff in the breeze and she goes where the wind takes her.
In all truth, Reiko has no birth records and nothing to indicate that she holds citizenship in any of Hydaelyn's lands. No knowledge exists regarding her life prior to showing up in Thanalan with the first wave of Doman refugees.

FAMILY...

Ask about her family and you'll hear a variety of stories that all end in an orphan with fingers stickier than molasses, making a life for herself in the mean streets of any city she happens to visit. While she'll gladly spin yarns for you, watch the clouds that darken her good eye, the way her hands tremble, the way her jaw clenches and her smile grows tight during the telling.
Reiko is the only surviving child of a prestigious noble family in Yamagiku, a large Raen city hidden in the mountains of northern Doma. Although her family name is Miyamoto, the "-moto" part of her surname is written with a different kanji that represents the path she was forced to walk. Her family's name is typically written 宮本 (meaning "original palace" or "original shrine") because her clan have always been nobility in charge of the oldest shrine in the city. For Reiko, however, the name is written 宮下, which means "beneath the shrine/palace."

RESIDENCE...

She pretends to be homeless, but she owns two fine apartments and divides her time between the Sultana's Breath in the Goblet, and the Kobai Goten in Shirogane. Ask her and she'll tell you that home is wherever you can hang your hat--and for her, this is usually the nearest tree or rooftop.

OCCUPATION...

Claiming to be little more than an entertainer who writes poetry, resignation and/or cover letters, and "stories for the kiddies, old an' young," Reiko has far more talents than she lets on. She says she is little more than a poet, a puppeteer, and an odd job girl, but she has extensive knowledge in alchemy (particularly poisons and other weaponry), wholesale murder/assassinations, torture, espionage, relic hunting, and grand larceny. On occasion, you can find her telling fortunes with a tarot deck she crafted herself (a look at her deck would reveal all the cards are labeled "DEATH" and feature various images of tragic accidents befalling stick figure people). As you might have guessed, she is not a particularly popular oracle, since she refuses to wax poetic about the health, wealth, love and happiness people want to hear.

PATRON DEITY...

This girl lost her faith in the gods a long, long time ago. But old habits die hard and she often mutters things under her breath--curses, jinxes, blasphemes, and occasionally thanks--to Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto and Inari Ōkami.

HEIGHT & WEIGHT...

4 fulms, 7 ilms. Yes, she's heard every short joke under the sun.
105 ponze.
4'7".
105 pounds.

ALIGNMENT...

Best described as "whatever she needs to be to reach her goals." Outside of this, she fits into the chaotic neutral alignment.

Hair & Eyes
Reiko's hair is thick, straight, and glossy, and it practically shines with health. When unbound, her hair reaches the middle of her thighs, though she usually keeps it wound up and twisted into a long ponytail clipped atop her skull with an elaborate metal clasp; that clasp contains several needles, all of them tucked into grooves etched into the mithril. A heavy fringe of straight bangs covers her forehead and several longer strands frame her face. Her hair is blacker than a crow's wing and displays dark chocolate highlights in the sun.
Only one eye is visible in this vulpine face. Large, almond-shaped and ringed in long, thick lashes, her good eye is grey as storm clouds rolling in from the coast and the outer corner is tilted up. Any questions regarding her other eye are most often met with a story about how she injured herself when her hand slipped while carving her puppets. Occasionally, she'll tell some tall tale about how a stray arrow took out her left eye while she worked her part-time job setting up targets for the archers in Gridania.
Beneath the patch, her left eye glows silver--a clear sign that she is Echo-touched. Since her escape from Doma during the rebellion, she has never allowed anyone to see beneath her eye patch.
.
Physique & Markings
Most Au Ra bear patches of scales on their bodies; Reiko does not. In fact, the only scales she still possesses cover her horns and her tail. If you catch a glimpse at the pale flesh hidden by her bandages and clothing, you'll find a heavy network of thick, knotty scars covering her arms and her legs, as well as numerous indentations where scales should be. Angry pink scars in the shape of handprints mar her throat. Her left hand is missing the last two joints of the little finger and a large notch has been taken from her right thumb.
From her elbows to her fingertips, her knees to her toes, she is decorated with layer upon layer of scars. A close inspection--should you have the opportunity to see them--would reveal these scars are not the marks of battle, but rather signs of extensive torture by a skilled hand.
.
Hygiene & Attire
If she could spend all day in a hot bath with a good book, she certainly would. Reiko is damn near anal about her hygiene and she will take any opportunity to clean herself. You won't often find her complaining often about dirt, sweat, blood, and viscera clinging to her, but as soon as she finds clean water, she will dive right in and scrub herself.
She has a habit of repeatedly washing her hands until she rubs the skin raw--or peels off the first few layers altogether. She will wash her hands under scalding water with the harshest soap she can make; on these occasions, you may catch her muttering strange things under her breath. Especially if she's just committed a murder, she will want to wash her hands immediately.
Reiko is never without a long, thick scarf made of black dragon scales. Several layers wind around and around her neck and shoulders, and she uses the scarf for numerous reasons: it hides the scars marring her throat, can be used to hide her face when she's embarrassed or annoyed, becomes a gas mask when she needs it, and can be employed as a rope, a blanket, or even a weapon when necessary.
She is also never without ivory linen bandages that cover her from her biceps to her fingertips, and her thighs to her toes. These bandages serve as both protection from prying eyes who might otherwise glimpse her numerous scars, and light armor. The linens are enchanted to protect her skin from her razor wires and they can turn away small blades.
Her typical attire consists of a light tunic tapering into both a front and back panel loincloth, a pair of shorts, and several leather belts slung around her hips. The belts contain a variety of pouches, all of them filled with herbs, writing/note taking paraphernalia, alchemical vials labeled with small bumps in a language she invented herself, a first aid kit, a woodcarving/sculpting kit, a small carving knife, and yarn. A few of the less visible pouches contain long, steel needles and length after length of razor wire.
She favours anything that allows her a wide range of motion. Reiko despises long dresses and tight clothing, and will only wear them when a plan calls for convincing disguises.
She rarely wears shoes unless forced by companions or inclement weather.
.
Personality
Reiko has a mask crafted to suit damn near any occasion, though the one she wears most often is "tacky street performer." She presents herself as a cheerful idiot with a tongue that runs faster than her brain, and she has no problems shouting awful--often bawdy--poetry at anyone who will listen to her. She spends most of her time in public lounging on rooftops and/or awnings, watching people come and go, and taking notes about them so she can use them as inspiration for her next play, poem, or story.
Fond of limericks and nonsense poetry, she often disguises a caustic wit behind a carefree, head-in-the-clouds demeanor and a drawl that would make even the most uneducated Limsan pirate want to staple his ears shut--and this ensures that most people never recognize the shrewd mind, the killer's smile, and the keen eyes that observe them.
In short, she usually acts like a loud, raucous fool whose mind plays with the fairies more than half the time. But all of this is nothing more than a front to hide the silent, thoughtful girl drowning in crushing depression, guilt, self-loathing, and an unquenchable thirst for revenge. The true Reiko is a clever, careful, cautious girl who is always aiming to be several steps ahead of anyone she encounters. She has difficulty getting close to people and uses her gaudy mask as a way to both disguise herself from dogged pursuit and keep others at arm's length.
Psychological Profile
Reiko is obsessed with sugar: candy, cakes, pastries, tarts, cookies. Sweets of any variety are sure to gain her attention and if you offer her candy, she'll be your best friend--at least until the sugar runs out. Fed increasing dosages of many different poisons to bolster her immunity, she has no qualms about taking candy from strangers and while most poison is unlikely to kill her, it can and probably will make her ill and sometimes violently so. She has a few reasons for her obsession with sweets, but unless you've earned her trust and close friendship, she will never give you a straight answer on this subject.
She tends to look at life and everything in it as a giant game she needs to win to stay alive, and a project. People are social experiments in her mind, and she often treats them as such, saying and doing ridiculous and/or inflammatory things for the sole purpose of gauging their responses. She is still not entirely accustomed to carrying herself in proper society, given her lifelong incarceration and isolation, and she finds it difficult to get close to others.
"Competition" is her middle name. Reiko likes to win, often at any cost, and she has no problems cheating to earn her victory. After all, her father told her, "If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying and you are no child of mine."
When speaking to those who have yet to get a glimpse behind her sunny mask, she has a habit of calling herself by name ("Chi"), rather than the usual pronouns. She has also adopted the slurring drawl of Limsan lowborn to disguise the traces of nobility both bred and beaten into her.
Reiko is ruled by a combination of both emotion and logic. While often coldly logical and reasonable, she feels things deeper than the Ruby Sea and is not always certain how to react to her emotions, nor does she always know how to express them effectively. This leads to frequent clam-ups and outbursts of inappropriate ire.
Though she dons the mantle of an extrovert when out in the public eye, Reiko is actually quite shy and finds it difficult to strike up conversation with people, especially in larger groups. She enjoys time spent alone, finding it refreshing, particularly if it means she gets to read or create new works of art. Unfortunately, all that time spent in her own company usually leads her down memory lane. She hates thinking about her past and such a trip usually precedes an extended period of forced socialization.
She projects the face of an eternal optimist to the public, but underneath, Reiko is pessimistic. She'll call herself a "realist," however.
Her sense of humour tends to be dark, wry, sarcastic, and irreverent.
She has developed an exceptional level of patience over the years. It takes most people a great deal of effort to get on her nerves or make her lose her cool, though a very select few have managed this feat with ease.
Reiko has a tendency to drive herself for days at a time without rest; sleep brings dreams and she usually dreams about things she doesn't want to remember. Once she's hit her limit for exhaustion, however, she usually sleeps for a full day, sometimes two.
Her psychological flaws include: abusiveness, addiction, anxiety, callousness, disorders (OCD, sadomasochism, and others), ferocity, impiety, impishness, meddlesome, homicidal tendencies, and a few phobias. Ask about them OOC if you're interested in a more descriptive list.
.
Voice
In public, she employs a high alto verging on a lower end soprano. Her voice is usually sunny and sweet, and seems to have a permanent squeak twisted into it. When she's excited, she sounds like a tea kettle announcing full boil.
Her true speaking voice is a smoky contralto.
Her laughter is bright, merry, and tinkling like silver bells. It tends to be somewhat infectious and when she's genuinely amused, she laughs openly and unabashedly. If she's of a darker turn of thought, she typically snorts in place of actual laughter.
.
Philosophy & Mannerisms
Her most prominent philosophy revolves around: "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and a nail for a nail." You may never know it, but she is big on revenge whether she gets it directly or indirectly.
When in public, Reiko bounces wherever she goes. She acts like a bundle of endless energy and cheer, and she walks as though her legs were made of springs. Some have described her gait as ungainly, claiming that she appears to be playing leapfrog against an invisible opponent. When alone, she lopes, graceful and easy as a panther on the prowl.
She often stares up at the sky and taps her chin with her middle and/or index fingers while she's thinking. When concentrating, she sticks out the tip of her tongue and frowns, and this makes her look a bit like a confused cat. She'll also mouth words when she's reading or thinking really hard about something, and she doesn't seem to be aware that she's doing so.
If you catch her drawing or carving her puppets, you'll often find that she tilts her head back and forth as if trying to mimic the view her art subject would have. She will unconsciously mirror whatever face her subject is making, as if by doing so, this will improve her replication of said subject.
She doesn't seem to become embarrassed easily or all that often, but when it does happen, she usually hides her face in her scarf and averts her eyes like a child caught stealing cookies from the cookie jar. In addition to the furious heat coating her cheeks, the blush spreads to her horns, tinting the ivory a delicate pink. The right people can leave her in a state of perpetual mortification... which usually causes a display of temper she doesn't ordinarily show.
Reiko claps when she's exceptionally excited or happy about something, and she'll frequently hop from foot to foot or bounce on the balls of her feet while clapping. Sometimes, she'll even squeal or make high-pitched noises in the back of her throat.
If she feels lonely, sad, scared, or depressed, she will talk to the stuffed rabbit given to her by Takamasa. This rabbit--named Yuzu--is her confidant and she treats it with all the tender care a woman might show her lover.

OOC Note
Due to a lifetime of horrific, intensive training (and a secret you may or may not discover upon long-term interaction with her), Reiko is a fierce, skilled fighter. I won't write her impervious to damage--she can and will take hits--but if you want to beat her, you must outsmart her and outlast her. Until you knock her unconscious or incapacitate her some other way, she will not stop coming at you in a battle.

Basic Statistics
Reiko's combat style is quick and efficient. She prefers to avoid murder in plain sight and she will usually attempt to talk her way out of violent situations when in the public eye. But if forced to defend herself, she does so precisely and without wasted effort and she will aim to incapacitate her opponent as fast as she can to remove herself from the situation entirely.
When forced to kill, her preferred methods are a quick removal of the throat (often from behind), strangulation, decapitation, poisoning, and/or a swift jab with toxic pins. For this reason, she always carries a variety of hidden weapons on herself.
Because she is small and agile, she is often able to dodge many of the blows from her bigger, slower challengers. Her favourite move in a sparring bout involves climbing her opponent like a tree and strangling them with their own hair. As a general reference, her fighting styles resemble a mixture of Juri Han and Ibuki (Street Fighter), Taki and Talim (Soul Calibur), and Kurenai (Red Ninja: End of Honour). What she lacks in physical power, she makes up for in cunning and speed, and rather than attempting to knock down an opponent with a couple of heavy blows, she will aim her strikes at vital areas.
Be warned: Reiko can turn just about anything into a weapon.
High:
Unarmed/hand-to-hand combat.
Fist weapons (including claws, brass knuckles, war fans, needles, and tonfa).
Alchemy (including poisons, other toxins, and offensive powders, potions, and concoctions).
Razor wire/string/yarn/rope.
Magic, including traditional miko abilities and ninjutsu.
Above Average:
Daggers/knives.
Blowdart guns.
Average:
Light bo/quarterstaff.
Low:
Assorted polearms. Most of them are much taller than she is and therefore, unwieldy.
Shields. She is more apt to employ a shield as a sled on the Coerthas slopes than an offensive/defensive aid.
Swords. She can't even lift some of them.
Ranged (bows and guns).
Aetheric Abilities
Mastery:
Fire. Reiko has a natural affinity for flame-based magic, thanks to both her origins and her training as a miko.
Ninjutsu.
Illusion. With her ofuda, she is capable of crafting illusion spells.
Expert:
None.
Average:
None.
Novice:
The Echo. When using this inborn power, she has no control over it. To use it, she must touch a person's bare skin with her own naked hands and leave her cursed eye uncovered. The Echo grants her an ability to see into her target's memories and, if she'd ever learn how to wield it effectively, an ability to take painful memories from them. Essentially, she could become a Sin Eater. But use of the Echo leaves her with terrible, debilitating migraines, violent, often explosive nausea, and lingering demons she'd rather not fight because she has her own inner monsters to battle.

OOC Notes
Hello. OOCly, I am extremely shy and unlikely to start conversations because I worry that I'm being a bother. I'd love to make friends, however, and I'm happy to write stories with you and get interaction for this character. I'm just bad at approaching people. So if I seem cold or standoffish, it isn't because I don't like you or don't want to talk to you! I'm just shy.
