P E R S O N A L I T Y

At first, it is very common for Nergui to come off as cold and distant, or perhaps simply steely and stoic. Partly due to the huge cutural gap he is working to bridge across, he often remains the most quiet in conversation, or may become confused by idioms and phrases. He is straight forward, determined, and loyal to his cause or the cause of his superiors. Passionate for justice and truth, he may hold grudges against those who break the law for their own needs, or those who exploit others(however, if this is cultural, he may ignore it). Upon becoming closer with Nergui, one may notice a slightly more jovial nature, if subdued. He is fond of drinking, smoking, and relaxing after hard work, but does not like to waste any time otherwise. Romantically speaking, Nergui has not sought out attention from anyone, nor does he particularly want it. However, should he have feelings for someone, it is most likely that he wouldn't deny them. He is not a fan of sexual intimacy, but enjoys closeness and touching.

A P P E A R A N C E

Nergui is of average height and build for his species. His skin is a smokey grey, while his hair is pure white, dyed red at the ends. His hair is styles into three braids, the largest on the back of his head, and the other two against his temples. Both his eyes have red limbal rings, while the color of the iris is a pale white. His black, chitinous plating spreads across not only his body, but also his jawline, the bridge of his nose, and cheekbones. His typical manner of dress when not fighting is primarily coats, leather, and loose tunics, all dark in color. He is a very imposing figure when standing up, as he always looks prepared to fight, perhaps even eager. Often, his face conveys a simmering anger, or a cold thoughtfulness.

  Name (   ✔  ♦ ) ( NPC ) - Title
Jacke has strong connections with Mar'khas' troupe, and so he has known the man through most of his life. Jacke even taught him from youth to be a rogue. Mar'khas respects Jacke as the leader of the Rogue's guild, but ultimately goes his own way. He assumes Jacke understands his choices, and as long as he obeys the code, he doesn't care. The two have fun with the contracts they exchange, often times Mar'khas accepting contracts that have him acting as a messenger to his troupe just for the excuse to go see them again. It is a normal occurrence to find the two of them getting plastered at the Drowning Wench.
  Ahldahn Bhaldbaen (   ♥ ) ( NPC ) - Leader of the Troupe
His true father, Ahldahn was the one who took Mar'khas in as a cub and raised him in the troupe. The two have a very playful relationship, and whenever they connect it ends up in shenanigans. Having grown up listening to all of the tales of his life Ahldahn had to share, Mar'khas truly looks up to his father, and hopes to one day be as seasoned an adventurer as him.
  Jeannpioux (   ♥ ) ( NPC ) - Dancer of the Troupe
More like an older brother, Mar'khas has a teasing relationship with this monk. He loves to poke fun at him whenever he gets the chance, and the two usually have sparring battles as a result. Jeannpioux is very serious about his craft, and the martial arts comes off as beautiful dancing in his grace. Mar'khas has always admired that, and as a result, is quite the good dancer, in both battle and celebration.
  Momoni Mokipa (   ♥ ) ( NPC ) - Singer of the Troupe
This bard taught Mar'khas everything he knows about singing. Strict and stern, if he was ever out of tune, she'd quickly let him know with a thwack to his tail. Mar'khas calls her 'Granny Momo', much to her disdain.
  Momosa Mokipa (   ♥ ) ( NPC ) - Musician of the Troupe
The other half of twin Bards, Momosa taught Mar'khas to play stringed instruments. She was less stern and more playful in her approach, and often the two played duets late into the night after a good amount of drink. He calls her 'Granny Mosa', and she usually playfully smacks him for it.

  Ethri'a Valnyr (   ♦ ) - The Stoic Paladin
Having met in the past under the usual circumstances of petty theft, Mar'khas at first tried to hide his identity from Ethri'a upon meeting him again... under similar circumstances. Though he thought he had done a good job of hiding himself, as well as assuming his new scars would help mask him, Ethri'a still remembered his face, and took him out drinking, where it was eventually coaxed out. As it turned out, Ethri'a was not looking for retribution, but a fellow drinker to empty pitchers with. Mar'khas was happy to oblige. It was certainly better than ending up in the brig! Through a fun night of drinking, which led to many odd conversations and instances, Mar'khas found that he'd made a friend out of Ethri'a, or so he'd like to hope. The knight could be pretty entertaining, especially when he was head-on-the-counter drunk!
  Teld're Eska'aldren (   ● ) - The Griffon Rider
Though he is more interested in his relationship with Ethri'a, Mar'khas is still cautiously interested in Teld're, himself. The Miqo'te seems very shielded by his calm demeanor, but something burning and wild is hidden in his eyes. Mar'khas isn't actually sure if he wants to see it, yet, but he awaits the next time their paths cross.
  Little Shark (   ● ) - The Roe
Though he's only met this interesting character once, Mar'khas likes him quite a bit. He identifies with Little Shark's upbringing, and has no problems in addressing him as a Roegadyn, rather than a Miqo'te Keeper. He can always appreciate a guy who can hold his liquor, too, and thinks Little Shark would make a nice drinking partner.

The Cub on the Dock

It was a cold night, the air heavy with fog from the ocean mist. Distant sounds of harbor bells rung through the air, gentle crashing of waves against the harbor clapped past the silence, and a crying sliced through it all, clear and loud. So loud, in fact, that it proved a good lure for a group of performers. An Elezen, two Lalafell, and a towering Roegadyn all approached the sound, coming from the end of the pier. There was a crate with a loosed top on the corner of the dock. The Roegadyn came close, pulling the top off and looking inside. A young Miqot'e cub, barely having grown his fur, lay crying amidst a pile of burlap and hempen cloth, wailing and sobbing. The others came near as the Roegadyn carefully lifted the cub out of the box, holding him as if he were some sort of unstable bomb. After a few moments of examination, He pulled the cub close, trying to keep him warm in his large arms, and said "... Mar'khas. That's a good name, ey?"

Raised Amongst Thieves and Bards

Mar'khas was raised by the Merlsaelz Theatre Troupe, a troupe of performers... or so they would have others think. Truly, they were thieves and informants for hire, using their performing skills as a cover for their true work. The group consisted of: Jeannpioux, a mysterious Pugilist who also knew the skills of dance; Momoni and Momosa Mokipa, sisters, bards, and skilled well in instruments and vocals, respectively; Ahldahn Bhaldbaen, a Roegadyn Marauder well versed in acting and plays of all sorts, and the leader of the troupe.

Together they raised the small cub they found on the docks as their own, naming him after a character in one of the plays they would preform. He was taught in the ways of dancing, singing, acting, and strings (primarily lute and fiddle). Originally, they did not intend on teaching him their battle arts, only in the arts of sneaking and stealing and conning, but through leaving him behind with Jacke, the leader of the Rogues Guild, as they went off on contracts, he inevitably learned to fight, anyway.

As he came of appropriate age, they began taking him with them on contracts, quickly finding that he was perfect for their kind of work. He fit right in, using his roguish charm to distract targets as the rest of the troupe did their true work, and eventually, he did the true work as they distracted. Quickly, he became an invaluable member of the troupe.

Setting Sails for Adventure

At the age of sixteen, Mar'khas was well aware of how he did not fit in with typical Seeker traditions, either in name or in culture. Curiosity had chewed at his mind his entire life, yearning to learn his true roots and heritage. Though he loved his troupe - his family - he yearned to find himself. And so, he asked to leave the troupe for a time. Ahldahn agreed, after giving him a whooping to prove he was ready for it. And so, Mar'khas left his home, which was not in Limsa Lominsa, nor in Ul'dah, nor in Gridania, but wherever his troupe may be.

The Sword of Bahamut

Mar'khas was hired to track down a sliver of Dalamud, the structure that held the primal Bahamut, which had been forged into a mighty sword. Upon tracking it down, he came into conflict with another who sought it out, and during their fight, the sword began to glow. A bright flash of light blinded Mar'khas, and when he awoke, he had no true recollection of what happened. All he knew is that the sword was gone, and so was the woman who he'd been fighting with. He assumed she'd won and taken the blade, and announced the contract as failed. He did not pursue it, due to some instinct in his mind telling him not to. It tears at his mind at night, giving him nightmares on the occasion, but as of yet, he has kept it a well-hidden secret.

Recent Events

Mar'khas, on his travels, ran across an old face. A Paladin by the name of Ethri'a Valnyr. Of course, the first time they met, he'd swindled himself out of trouble and snuck away. This time, however, he was completely unprepared for the rather... interesting conversation he got. Of course, by the end of it, they'd downed enough booze to drop a coeurl, and Ethri'a was quite clearly the more affected of them, but Mar'khas found a strange enjoyment of the company. He snagged a parting gift.
Less than a a few days later, Ethri'a returned for the item that had been stolen from him, ending up in a fun little exchange of banter.
The next time Ethri'a and Mar'khas met, it was on less lighthearted terms. Mar'khas had been wounded on a job, and was hiding from thugs hunting him down in search of the item he'd stolen from them. Ethri'a displayed interesting power in healing Mar'khas' wounds through magic, though before he could ask, further, another Miqo'te, Teld're, spotted them. Mar'khas had to quickly hide his stolen goods on Ethri'a's advice, and go along with them into the near by bar for drinks. By the end of the night, everyone was well into their cups, and having a relatively good time, but Mar'khas had to slip away again to put more distance between himself and the thugs.
Mar'khas discovered information about his biological father, and began to track him down. He found out that he was a Nunh, a member of the Jackal tribe, and a pirate. He gave all of this information to Ethri'a as well, albeit under the influence of quite a bit of alcohol, before passing out at the dock. When he woke up, Ethri'a was still by his side, and simply smiled, nodded, and walked away, apparently content that he was fine.
During travels in the Shroud, Mar'khas heard strange rumors about Ethri'a's past. When he spoke to the Paladin about them in Ul'dah, he was met by a tense conversation and a distinct barrier over the topic. What little he found out, he swore to secrecy. Before more of the conversation could be had, Ethri'a's traveling companion, Little Shark, arrived, and the three went drinking rather than having a deeper conversation.
