Rhianna Oruissi

"Look, I can heal many things, but I can't cure stupidity."

Wielder of the "Legendary Cast Iron Frying Pan of Feminine Wrathâ„¢"

General Info

(Since I'm often asked: Rhianna's name comes from a bastardization of Rhiannon, a Celtic goddess. NOT affiliated with Rihanna the singer.)

Rhianna is a skilled combat medic and alchemist who has called Ul'dah her home for the past four years. Until recently she worked in Ul'dah's infirmary, tending to the wounded and sick. When she wasn't working, she was assisting Alexander Stormwind with his research in aetherial and Allagan matters, tending to her apprentice, Ceilia Heartsong, or, in what little time she had left, assisting the refugees with food, medical assistance, and whatever other aid she could provide.

Currently, she has left her position with the infirmary to spend more of her time on research. She is rarely seen outside Alexander's mansion these days, though is known to still be taking patients who require her medical expertise.

Physical Description

Rhianna is a fair-skinned, female Hyur Midlander. She stands 5'6" (approx 167cm) tall and, despite being a researcher, is a fit 135 lb (62kg) from constantly being on her feet, running errands, and actively working out to maintain her physique and physical prowess.

She's 38 years old, her short, dark brown hair starting to show signs of grey. Her eyes are hazel, leaning more towards green than brown. Her left eye frequently twitches when dealing with Alexander or particularly idiotic or irritating individuals. On the very rare occasions she is seen without make-up, dark circles are visible beneath her eyes.

While she smiles easily, Rhianna usually carries herself with dignity and decorum and dresses herself as she sees appropriate to the situation, as well as her age, position, and profession. She takes obvious pride in her appearance without being vain about it. When in town, she prefers elegant or classy skirts and gowns. When working, something practical.

Always hanging from her hip, or, in a fuller gown, strapped under it to her leg, is her ever-present frying pan ready to subdue unruly patients or peasants, or, simply to cook a meal.

History

Rhianna first appeared in Ul'dah four years ago, coming in with a group of refugees, among whom were Alexander Stormwind, Heavy Arms, and Ceilia Heartsong. She rarely speaks of her time before arriving in Ul'dah, including her journey as a refugee. What can be gleaned by talking to her companions and the refugees she arrived with, however, is that she was a military medic and she quickly took charge of a small, rag-tag band of refugees after the Battle of Carteneau. She tended the wounded, organized work teams, and gave them a sense of direction and purpose as they made their way to Ul'dah. Many of those she arrived with are no longer on the streets.

Rhianna's own skills as a healer, as well as her persistence, quickly landed her a job in the infirmary in Ul'dah where she tended civilian and soldier alike. It wasn't long before she was able to rent a modest apartment with Ceilia as her roommate. For the next four years she worked at the hospital, raised and mentored Ceilia, tried to alleviate the plight of the refugees, including her own band, as much as possible, and began working with Alexander.

Over time, due to Alex's demands on her time day and night, she spent less and less time at home and had less time to work at the infirmary. After the injury that cost Alex his eye, Rhi quit her job at the hospital and went into Alexander's employ full-time. Her time home was non-existent as every waking hour was spent either tending him or working with him. Once Ceilia left on mission with her companion, Raniall, Rhianna moved into Alexander's home, though she still maintains the apartment as a place of quiet sanity away from her partner, as well as for Ceilia when she is in the city again.

Much to Alexander's chagrin, he soon realized having Rhianna on hand at all hours to help with research and experiments didn't come without price. In quiet, stubborn retaliation, Rhianna took over his household affairs. She now manages the staff, reorganizes and decorates the house proper, and keeps the house not only neat, but, worst of all, comfortable and welcoming to guests. If that didn't irk Alexander enough, when he was injured and since, she banished all books and work from his bedroom, ensuring it's solely used for rest.

Despite his protests, arguments, and threats, Rhi stood her ground, challenging him and denying his insistence to leave things be. In time, he came to realize her changes improved the efficiency and appearance of the household and all were made, ultimately, with his needs and tastes in mind. Except that damnable Carbuncle clock. Rhi's ability to counter Alexander's arguments and her refusal to back down has earned her his respect and his ear.

Currently, Rhianna's still working, living, and traveling with Alexander, as well as handling his business arrangements and making some of her own. Though well-compensated for her time, Rhianna continues to practice medicine out of his home, by appointment only, and does some trade in ancient tomes.

Personality

Depending on who you ask, Rhianna is a compassionate woman who will go to any length to help and care for people, or she is a violent, impatient, self-serving bitch who enjoys nothing more than smashing skulls with her frying pan or setting people on fire. Which view is obtained usually depends on how Rhianna was approached.

Generally speaking, Rhianna is kind, patient, caring, motherly, and protective of others. She will travel great distances and put her own life on the line if she feels she can help someone.

Her benevolence is not boundless, however, and she abhors ignorance and those who waste her time. She cannot stand those who encourage misinformation or refuse to face the facts before them, and she will refuse to aid those who rush heedlessly into trouble time and again.

Her bedside manner, while usually pleasant, also takes a no-nonsense approach, and she has been known to knock difficult or stubborn patients unconscious with a club or her frying pan. She reasons that she can heal the head wound just as easily as the rest of the body, which won't heal if the "stubborn ass" of a patient won't hold still anyway. If the patient is cooperative, they're often rewarded with a baked good or other sweet as a treat.

Garleans and other foes frequently find themselves set on fire or introduced to her frying pan.

Affiliations & Relationships

City-state
Ul'dah, though not native to it, she has lived there for the past 4 years. Recently she has purchased a personal home in Gridania's Lavender Beds.
Family
None known
Romantic partners
None known. Much to Rhianna's confusion and frustration potential romantic partners in the past few years have either disappeared or started avoiding her without explanation.
Friends
Rhi has a difficult time forming personal bonds with people. As such, she labels very few people as "friends", but more often as "allies", "partners", "companions", and "acquaintances". She is friendly, kind, and generous to them, but maintains an emotional distance.
Partners
Alexander Stormwind- Archmage, Magitek engineer, patient, house-mate, and business and research partner. It's rumored that their relationship is more, but Rhi has frequently denied any romantic involvement with him, decrying it as sheer insanity and more stress than it's worth.
Students/Apprentices
Ceilia Heartsong- Young, shy, soft-spoken medic and Rhi's roommate for a few years. She is the closest thing to family that Rhi has. Though they are neither affectionate nor close, privately, Rhi views Ceilia as an adopted daughter, a view Ceilia does not reciprocate, though she does view Rhi as a kind mentor. Regardless, Rhianna is extremely protective of Ceilia and goes to great lengths to see to her comfort, safety, and happiness. Ceilia was part of Rhianna's group of refugees and arrived in Ul'dah with her.
Allies
Menelwen Veara- Introduced to Rhi via Dogberry on their Primal hunting excursions
Daghbheri Himalspyr- A roegadyn privateer & businessman. Acquirer of ancient artifacts and from magitek legs to ship & crew, a pet project of Alexander's. Where once she had great respect for Dogberry, much of that has been lost due to recent events. While she still maintains a civil and working relationship with him, she now views him with mistrust.
Heavy Arms- A young roegadyn pugilist with aspirations of becoming a weaponsmaster. He arrived in the same refugee group as Rhi did. He has a strong bond with Alexander, acts as "big brother" to Ceilia. Rhi's accepted him in the same way as she has Ceilia. Heavy holds her at a distance, however, but that doesn't prevent her from seeing to his safety, comfort, and happiness.
Raniall Lightstone- A young hyur soldier from Ul'dah whom Rhianna and Ceilia have known since moving to Ul'dah. His patience and compassion for Ceilia has formed a deep friendship and won Rhi's approval. Raniall has a standing invitation to dinner at Rhi's, and now Alexander's home.
Heartsong Tailchaser- A broken-headed mi'qote & Torial's mate, being taught to read by Rhianna. She's the equivalent of a cat and a 5 year old child's mind in a 23-year-old mi'qote's body, and while Rhi finds it annoying, she understand the trauma Tailchaser's gone through and tolerates her antics. Child of neglectful scholar parents, Tailchaser also finds Alexander Stormwind's aloofness reminiscent of her father and desperately seeks his approval.
Torial Rakkinwyll- Formerly of the Sultansworn, he requested permission to become a Free Paladin to have the freedom to do what he feels is necessary to protect Ul'dah and his Sultana. He met Rhianna when she was a medic in the infirmary and they've since been aiding each other with favors and information.

PC Rumors

  • "She's a brilliant woman with a strong heart, quick wit, and one hell of an arm with a frying pan. It's a miracle that she puts up with Stormwind's antics, and a wonder of how she hasn't buried the man herself yet." - Menelwen Veara
