At a rather tall three fulms, Sosorai has always loomed over his fellow Lalafellan man. He appears rather young for his age, mostly due to a lack of facial hair, which Ozowai has always found to be agitating and in the way. Sosorai keeps his sandy hair tied off behind him, so as not to interfere with his work, but claims he likes the feeling of it flowing around him when relaxing. His face holds a speckled look to it, and his nose is darkened slightly, a trait passed along from his family.
Scars & Markings: Though Sosorai carries no scars, he does behold to a pair of mismatched eyes--one of which was sacrificed in order to further his magicks. The eye in question is blue, compared to his original green.
Voice: In spite of his diminutive size, Sosorai Ozowai's voice is particularly deep, and carries quite a distance whether he means it to or not. This has a great deal to do with years of working alongside much larger races than his own, and having to speak up due to the height difference.
Clothing: Typically, Ozowai can be seen donning red robes and a bright red helm of the "Onion" style, mimicking an ancient set lost during the collapse of the Allagan Empire. He wear simple black boots and black gloves to complete the piece. When not out on the prowl, Soso's attire is much more simplistic, consisting of a plain cotton shirt and a set of pants with plain shoes.
TLDR; Timid, Gentleman, Study, Frightened but brave
Sosorai is what many might consider a lovable coward. A scholar and student before the events of the Isle of Val's destruction, Ozowai seemed content to live his life in his books and with his wife. A sweet-hearted man in nature, he found violence and fighting to be a last-resort option, even in his normal routines. Osowai is a respectful lad, willing to go well out of his way to be polite and approachable to people as best he can. When things get tough however, he is quick to back down, and slow to recover his usually level-headed nature. Sosorai prefers peace and quiet, and so claims that the heat of the moment is not a place for someone like him. Because of this, most are quick to dismiss him, and easily overlook his efforts in most of his work, considering him a fool unable to perform under pressure and is therefore useless.
However, in spite of his refraining from violence, and meekness to go into battle, if there is a due cause to do so, Sosorai is willing to forgo his instincts and put his efforts into fighting. He may shake in his boots when he approaches his foes or a challenge he has yet to face, but once he gets close and comfortable, little can shake him out of his determination. The Sharlayan is willing to do whatever it takes to help the innocent, the needy, or those who can't defend themselves, eager to put aside his own desires and safety in order to accomplish what he considers the common good. He is a cowardly lion at heart...and also seems to have horrendous luck, being the butt-monkey of nearly every practical joke or unfortunate event that gets hurled his way. It's never led to serious injury...quite yet.

Before the Calamity
Sosorai Ozowai was born in the Sharlayan Homeland, in the great city that served as the city-state's beating heart. His family, having come from Eorzea to live in the hustle and bustle of the scholarly lands, had worked from scratch in order to affirm themselves as the capable alchemist/botanist duo that they'd become, and each of Sosorai's three siblings had already begun establishing their reputations as infamous students by the time he'd come to be born. Sosorai himself was an eager youth, excited to take his place in the fabled halls of the Forum and become a wise study much like the rest of his family had before him. However, Ozowai was not an attentive child, and constantly badgered his superiors with questions. Many found him too problematic and hyperactive for their tastes, and Sosorai was tossed out of several academies before finally finding his calling. At ten summers, Sosorai signed himself onto the team of Sharlayans that would eventually come to Eorzea to begin studying the nature of the Amdapori ruins in the Twelveswood.
However, Sororai would find himself restless once again. The War of the Magi hardly interested him as much as ancient knowledge--knowledge like primal magicks. Being warned several times by his superiors that dabbling in such sorts of artes would surely get himself renounced and banished by the Forum, Ozowai became forlorn and annoyed with his coworkers on the Amdapori team. Shortly after the discovery and approval to research the lost art of Summoning, however, Sosorai eagerly applied for a transfer, and eventually made his way to converse with the Twelveswood beastmen, the Sylphs.
Ozowai would never make it to Little Solace. Upon being ambushed by a Hellsguard slaver named Dirty Savage, he is taken immediately into custody and swept away to Thanalan. After suffering several moons of tortures and mind-breaking, the steadfast Lalafell continued to hold his personality and wit intact, despite Savage's best efforts. Frustrated and annoyed that his methods were not effecting the lad, Dirty Savage relents and decides to sell off the boy to the Amal'jaa as a sacrifice to their god, Ifrit. Upon being presented to the beast to become tempered, however, Sosorai found himself immune to the great primal's influence--a direct result of being touched by the Mothercrystal. Breaking his bonds in the confusion and escaping his captors, Sosorai Ozowai wandered the deserts of Thanalan until finally coming upon the steps of Nald, where he promptly passed out from lack of food and utter exhaustion.
It was upon his sudden lapse of consciousness that the Dunesfolk heard directly from Hydaelyn herself. It was she who had protected him from becoming Ifrit's eternal slave, and it was her will that she serve him in bringing peace to not only Eorzea, but the very star itself. Unsure of what to make of this newfound discovery, Sosorai contacted his party in the Black Shroud in earnest. Upon his report, Ozowai was told of his unique gift, that of the rare Echo, and was demanded to return to Sharlayan's Isle of Val for further instruction.
Sosorai unhappily returned to Sharlayan lands, grouchy that he had been forced to abandon his lifelong dream of harnessing the primal's powers in order to file more dull reports to his superiors. But, it would not all be in vain; though he was forced to remain on the Isle until the extent of his abilities had been fully understood by the scholars there, it was on the grounds of the research center that he came across the woman he would eventually fall in love with. A fair Wildswood Elezen from Ishgard who had been tasked with keeping him company to more closely study the nature of his Echo, Vivienne Chevalier was fascinated with the little man's dream of using his power to mend the rift between not only Beastman and Mankind, but to further understanding in the ancient magicks of the Allagan Empire. Vivienne, contrary to Sosorai's more laid back nature, was passionate and reckless, brash and exciting. Where Sosorai would rather lay below the radar and not make waves, the Lady Chevalier was more than happy to rustle as many skirts as she could along the way, often remarking that the bulk of scholars and students were too uptight and stuff-shirted. With her company, Ozowai became much more laid-back, and often with her hand to hold, more adventurous than usual. After several years, Sosorai seemed content to stay on the Isle with his lover, taking up duties as caretaker of the libraries, and eventually proposed to Vivienne. Happily, the woman accepted, and the two were promptly wed.
Exodus and Calamity
In spite of her joy in being wed to the man she loved, Vivienne often longed to return to Ishgard to see her homeland and her family once again. She remarked how desperately she wanted to study Eorzea and see her sights while she was still young and sprightly enough to do so, and Ozowai agreed in her notions. Without being under the Forum's strict rules and guidelines, they would be free to research the nature of Summoning, the Primals, and how to best tend to the threat. It was this in their hearts that the pair left the Isle of Val for the city-state of Ishgard, abandoning Sharlayan for their own pursuits.
Vivienne's family would not be quite as happy to see her as much as she was them, and far less were they approving of her marriage to Sosorai. It was clear in their mannerisms and tones towards the Lalafell that his kind was not what they had in mind for their daughter, a point to which both the newlyweds heavily contested upon. Feeling unwelcome and unwanted, Vivienne and Sosorai left Ishgard for Limsa Lominsa to study the nature of the Kobolds.
It would not be long after this, that the Exodus of the Sharlayan peoples began from their colony in the Dravanian Hinterlands. With the city-state of Ala Mhigo now under the control of the Empire, the Forum had demanded all of her people return to their territories, enforcing that, should any of them interfere with Eorzea's fate, that they would be abandoned to the same. Lady Chevalier, however, would not be deterred; refusing to abandon her homeland to wanton destruction, in spite of Sosorai's protests to keep her safe. With their decision finally made, it was with heavy hearts that the young lovers watched as the end of their world came crashing down upon them.
That the story would have ended there, save not for the intervention of a particular Sharlayan Scholar. But fate would find that the end to Sosorai's wife. As the Drowning Wench split in half, cleaved in two by Bahamut's flames and showers of Allagan technology, Vivienne and hundreds of others went hurtling into the seas below along a hailstorm of debris without warning. It was there that Sosorai lost the only thing he had ever loved more than knowledge.
Lost and heartbroken in the aftermath of the terrible day, Ozowai wandered aimlessly through Vylbrand, helping wherever he could with his skills. He could find no solace in his work, however, for the idea that he should have bravely leaped to his wife's aid, despite her being crushed immediately, was too heavy a burden for joy to find its way into his heart. Determined to see their lifelong dream of mending bonds and discovering the secrets of eld magicks come to fruition, Sosorai buried himself in his work, tirelessly working to ease relations between man and beastman as best as he was able. Though, despite his efforts, he found little success.
Present Day
Sosorai Ozowai still labors to revive the ancient artes of Mystic Knights, a sword-wielding band of gladiators who imbued elements into their blades for effective combat stratagems, to this day. Still lingering with the memories of the day his heart was shattered, he might find some comfort in finally achieving peace and success in his efforts.
